Green Bay disc golf is blowing up. Anyone interested in starting a league at Pinecrest let me know.

Mar 12 2004, 03:32 PM
Whats up man. I'm not really a big fan of Pinecrest yet since there isn't even 18 holes yet and it was too easy to lose discs due to the tall grass. It has potential though. I love ripping 400' drives from the back tees there. But I think there will be a league at Triangle. Triangle is really the only course I like a lot in Green Bay. What part of GB are u from Shaun? We should shoot a round sometime.

Mar 12 2004, 03:38 PM
That anonymous poster was me. I forgot to sign in before I posted. Anyways Shaun, how long have you been playin for? Do you play the Green Bay courses a lot? I mostly play Triangle here. Its a good course from the back tees. My best 2 rounds there are 11 under (43). My avg. there is around a 6-7 under. At Pamperin my best so far is a 5 under (49). I haven't played that course out like I do with Triangle. I only played Pinecrest twice but I never completed a round because I lost a disc each time I went.

Glad you are interested Brian. I have been playing for about 7 years. We will hpefully get the final 6 holes in Pinecrest this spring. I live about 2 minutes away from there right by the townline Pub. The Green Bay Park and Rec will never let us have a "league" or "club" on thier grounds. I tried last year to get one going and although i had enough people interested, they wanted to make players sign up with the park and rec like 4 months ahead of time and also, we wouldnt then be able to take on newcomers as it got more popular. Im sure the story would be the same at Pamperin since that is in GB as well. So I will try to get one with the much more appreciative Howard Park and Rec and we just might get one going this summer there. Anyways, my cell is 819-1543 if you want to play once it starts getting a little dryer out there.

Mar 15 2004, 11:39 PM
Yeah. I don't know what their problem is. The past 2 years I signed up for a league at Triangle and they canceled it right before it started. They said there wasn't enough interest. I find that hard to believe. That whole parking lot is packed almost every day of the summer. Pamperin Park isn't considered GB though. It's considered Howard. I live 2 minutes from the course. So I don't know if they control Pamperin Park or not? If u wanna go discin sometime give me a call at 562-4660. You could probably teach me a thing or two. I'm only 17 and have been playing for 3 yrs.

Just spoke with the gals from the Howard Park and Rec today and we are going to get the final six holes in place at Pinecrest hopefully within the next month. Also, I am starting a league out there that will start the first week of June and go for 15 weeks on Thursday nights at 6 pm. If you are interested email me at rivers@prodiscgolfer.com There will be a board out the course too with info on the league as well as standings, tournaments, etc.

Good idea. Might have to skip a few of my upcoming Thurs. nite AADGC Plamann tourneys to play these. :) Hopefully there will be intrest at Pinecrest. A lot of people around here only play Triangle and Pamperin.

Jun 01 2004, 04:15 AM
Triangle is rarely challenging and Pamperin has about the worst layout of any course i've ever played. Pinecrest is a great course. If you don't want to lose the discs in the grass keep the drive in the fairway ;)

Jun 01 2004, 02:27 PM
Triangle is an easy course for me. I throw rocs on basically every hole and avg. a 7 under there. My best is a 12 under. You still have to play conservative with the hills though or you will be rolling your way to bogey.

Pamperin is pay to play I think, so I haven't been there for a while. It is a nice course though and can be played as 18 holes. It has a mix of everything.

Pinecrest is way too open, but I still like it because it allows you to practice long drives on nearly every hole. (That is if you play from the back like me) Its a monster course. Avg. length is probably around 330' with many holes between 400' and 450'. I can't wait until they put the last 6 holes thru the woods and put some concrete pads in. It'll be a very good course then.

Green Bay Disc Golf League for all ages are under way on Thursday Nights at Pinecrest Park. Starting at approximately 6:30 every Thursday from now until the middle of September. Prizes, trophies, discs to give away. 6 more holes are going in soon. Come on out and lose a disc with us.

Jun 07 2004, 05:03 PM
Pamperin may be the worst you every played. But the worst course in the state is Forest Junction. It has the dumbest layout ever. It actaully makes Pamperin look good.

Hello Shaun,
So when did these leagues start? I have been waiting for a league here for a long time, but it seems that there are absolutely NO competitive people here in Green Bay. I'll be there on Thursday for sure. Need some practice for the Pickle Open on Sat. I just hope that I'm not the only one who shows up. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to start a league around here. Its about time someone took the initative. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I used to live in GB, what a great bunch of players up there, Mr. Rennock and i used to play often against simon and jeremy S. ...Shaun, are you the shawn kevin spoke of to me?
I love pinecrest but it's the only really challenging course in gb that i know of.... i agree w/anon that pamprin is poorly set but it's not really the designers fault. They were supposed to be able to use that area off to the right of 3 that's fenced. That course was gonna be phat until the city took the land back for a proposed rest area along the HW back there.

I'havent played the newest course.... there is a new one right? besides tri, pamprin, & pinecrest?

Dec 20 2004, 10:22 PM
Hey, whats up Stephen. I played with you once at Triangle. You always talked about how you loved your Z Talon. My name is Brian Luedtke if that rings a bell. So are you back in NM for good or are you coming back to GB? The tourneys around Wisconsin are great!

Dec 20 2004, 11:21 PM
Brian! sup dude, yeah man i remember we battled hard... nice round *hi5

Well, hehe, with the highbridge thing happening i might get some land in norhtern wi for the summertime... eventually. You won't catch me in WI anytime between oct and may however. I'm playin golf in shorts... have been all week... noooooo way. I don't throw a talon lately.

Dec 22 2004, 11:10 AM
Smart Move. Man its like 10 degrees here with 10" of snow on the ground. I cant stand winter. No disc golf for like 3 1/2 months :( Hope your having fun in your perfect disc golfing weather. :D

But yeah, disc golf around Wisconsin keeps getting better and better every year. I can't wait to try those Highbridge courses next spring. I wanna play in that Mid-Nationals event they are holding there.

BTW, I got a few rounds of 12 under (42) from the back pads at Triangle. I avg. around an 8 under at that easy course. Eventually I hope to break Rennock's course record of 15 under. :)

To Vic (and the rest of the state)

It would make for a little extra drive on any given night but you should certainly come down to the Indoor sports night at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex. This is awesome for anyone that doesn't like to play outside in the winter:

Here is an updated flyer:

Dec 22 2004, 04:05 PM
Niiice dude, 12 is my best there too. And on that -12 i truly felt i was off. The course record at triangle should be 18 down imo

Ps, dont feel bad, we're like 31* with 1/8 inch of snow... I might wait til 3 to go play ;)

Dec 25 2004, 08:49 PM
At least you don't have 10" of snow! ;)

I won't be discin for like 3 months here.

Don't forget Kewaunee's Winter Park, just 25 minutes east of Bairds Creek, and spectacular location in the Kewaunee River Valley. Check out the webpage pictures. We had 11 holes in last year and need all the help we can get to lobby to the county to install the remaining 7 holes, and inprove the tees. We'll be back in in the spring - hopefully with 18 if everyone shows support to the county recreation director.

side note: C'mon don't knock Forest Junction! They need to hold a tournament there! Then you'll see how truly skilled people are (or lucky). Go play once and you'll see, wait til he gets 18 in there.

My friend and I are planning to drive up and play the Green Bay Ice Bowl, but have never played Pinecrest. Is there a website with pics? Can anyone offer a more complete course desciption? THANKS!

12 are completely open, or at least with snow it won't make a difference if the fairways are mowed. There are 6 that meander through the woods. In the spring the course gets SLOPPY WET, hopefully not too bad frozen. Pretty even as far as left, right, and straight holes. There is a basket on a mound of dirt. I haven't played the wooded holes but they could be real promising.

Thanks, superberry.
Woods are fun.
Big mounds of dirt are good, too. Is it an elevated basket like Parkside's Hole 8?
Hmmm. We might have to make a weekend of it and play Forest Junction and Pamprin on Sunday, unless it never stops snowing!
Speaking of snow, what's the current depth up there?

Jan 27 2005, 12:04 AM
Yup, it's an elevated basket, it's near the top on the side of a big ol mound of dirt. Kinda Long drive to reach it from the pros too. A lot of the 'mostly' open holse are long... with Tall Tall grassy fields lining the fairways... don't miss the fairways there... whatever you do...

Let me just say....YOU ARE CRAZY for wanting to play up here. :DIf you play that Ice bowl, chances are you will get frost bite. I would say that there is a good 2 feet of snow on the ground. You will be up to your knees in snow. I was going to play at first until we got dumped with more snow a couple days ago. But hey, if thats your Idea of fun....go for it! :)

Hey Brian, I think I remember meeting you at the Wisc Junior Championships in Kaukauna last year.

As for the snow, I'll probably use a ribbon.
As for the cold, thermal 'under-armour' is the way to go, even for a skinny noodle-arm like me. Plus, the Green Bay Ice Bowl is still held for charity; that's why I'm making the drive up there. I love Wisconsin! :D

The course description for Pamprin sounds excellent, but no tourneys are being held there. Any specific reason? Is it open year-round?

Hello there,

Yeah, I was @ the WJDGC last year and will be there this year too! Its the last year I'll be eligible for a Junior event. That was a great tourney.:) Were you in the group that Diron came up with?

Anyways, Pamperin IS open year round. I got a chance to play a round when the snow was melted right after christmas. I like the course. It only has 9 baskets, but it has 2 sets of brick pads on each hole which are spaced pretty far apart, sometimes like 100'. It is played as 18 holes as the signs will indicate. Hole 1 is the front teepad to basket 1. Hole 2 is the back pad to basket 2. You alternate from front to back and vice versa. Hole 10 would be the back tee for hole 1. It has a mix of open and very wooded holes and requires you to throw all types of shots, long and short. There are a few holes around 400' with the longest being 450'. The shorter holes are very wooded for the most part. All in all, a good course in my opinion. Let me know if you wanna play a round when you are up here. I can show ya around. Maybe you can teach me what snow discin is all about :)

As for no tourneys being held here in Green Bay...

Green Bay doesn't have many competitive disc golfers at all. The only people I can think of around here besides me are Kevin Rennock who is a Pro Master and the Skenendore brothers who play advanced. So that makes 4? Other than that, I haven't met anyone else from GB who plays tourneys. All the competition around here goes on in Appleton. There courses are better...plain and simple.

Yep, the Junior Championship tourney was too much fun!
Ken Kreie is an awesome TD.

I drove up with Diron and Daniel Wheeler last year; Daniel's already registered but Diron suffered a pretty serious leg injury in November, so I'm not sure if he'll be healed in time.

Coming from Chicagoland where the majority of the courses are flat 9-holers, I appreciate elevation and length, even in 2 ft. of snow. Kaukauna and Standing Rocks are among my favs.

My partner and I might stay overnight somewhere between GB and Appleton on Feb. 12th; if so, it would be fun to hook up with you and maybe play Pamprin, Forest Junction, or somewhere else (or all of 'em)!

Is Picnic Hill closed for the winter? That looks like another superb course. How far is Two Rivers from GB?

Jan 28 2005, 03:48 PM
Two Rivers is right by Manitowok. It is about 45 minutes south of GB off of HWY 43. I haven't heard anything good about this course, only negative comments. Not sure if its open in winter??? Anyone else know...

Two Rivers is open. They changed the layout - ALL TREES! It is fantastic if you crave that ultimate disc flight through many trees. It is a bit odd though, hole #1 is by the water tower and the other 8 are in a tight loop at the back of the hill. I'd suggest driving all the way to the back of the hill and parking in that lot, then just play the 8 back there from each set of tees. I'll play you if you come up send me an email, I love the trees (plus they keep the snow from getting too deep)

Arbor Vitae!
My partner and I will probably play GB Ice Bowl, Pamprin, and sleep at a hotel. On Sunday, we would play Two Rivers, Forest Junction and Manitowoc. We'll see. Our trips often include unplanned sidetracks.
