View Full Version : Wrist Pain

Feb 15 2004, 10:44 PM
New to the sport and I've been having problems with my RHBH. The past couple of times I've practiced my backhand, there is a sharp pain in my wrist after a few throws. The pain goes away after a minute or two. This only happens when I'm trying for distance, and only with a BH...my FH feels fine. Any ideas as to what is causing this, I'm guessing bad mechanics? Thanks.

I'm no doctor but... I found when I was beginning that there is so much centrifugal force generated in the BH swing that it seemed my hand and wrist couldn't take it. It was like all the blood and energy was getting swung out to the hand so hard that it hurt. But the pain went away after more practice. Almost like my hand had to harden itself to the forces at work. I recently sustained an injury that I believe was caused by holding my discs as tightly as I could all the time. Now I realize that doing that doesn't help. Now I go with a "fairy" grip, that is barely holding the disc at all. I've found that this ends up generating more snap and the flights are truer, even if only a few feet shorter. Hope this helps some.
