You'll have to report back what happens. I think I'm skipping this as the prospect of a third one round Ice Bowl just isn't that exciting to me.

Went to Druid today and worked on the 'ole sidearm. My shoulder now hurts after 18 drives off the wood tees, and a couple of long fairway flicks. Shot a 61. #'s 7 and 14 wood are particularly nasty when forehanding, and totaled 3 of my 7 over par strokes.
Tomorrow might be the Minefski one disc Goucher battle. Time and details to be announced in the morn.
Paul has issued an invite to The Rock tomorrow, 2'ish. Call us...

Went to Goucher today and played on some still snowy tees. Shot a 52 for the 18. Deuced #8, and #2 the second time around. Avoided any of those humiliating fours for the first time ever out there.

Random notes from the rock IB:
Glen beats the big dogs with a modest 55, myers, and pp both posted 56's and jg a 58 I believe.
Jay G wins masters with a modest 58 over 14 other masters in the new "in" division.
It was my pleasure to play in a group with Jay, E, and George Brown. George just did not have a good day hurling the disc but myself , E, and Jay were close most of the way. Jay eventually got a small lead but I narrowed it a couple of times. I had some nice saves and nice shots, getting a 3 on 9 with a gutsy shot down the middle from mid hill, driving hole 15 (missed the deuce putt) and a nice downhill putt for a 3 on hole 1. Easy hole 3 our penultimate hole was my Waterloo. No one really parked it and my shot 33 feet to the left had me going last attempting the bird. I shot the putt over the basket just a tad and was left with an 18 foot come back putt, I pooched it a little low and it hit the rim and rolled out about 35 feet near my original drive location, the four attempt was OK but not really another miss for a nickel. My 59 turned to a 61 real quick, allowing 5 players to pass me with TT at 59 taking second and a slew of rivals at 60 including bb and E, at least I took last cash 7 out of 15 and $15, I donated a fat $5 to the food bank.
The chili was all good, really good.
Paul shot a 70 something I believe and I think he may have scored double digits on one hole, not sure though, paul how did you manage that 7X?

Happy Birthday Evil! I've contacted the agency and your present should be down there prior to lunch. I have an 1145 appoitment, and should be free after that. I am contemplating the Rock as the doc is in Columbia. I would be up for Ript (though I don't want to sidearm...must rest shoulder for Sunday /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) as it sounds kinky, or just a straight round.

Shark- I'm assuming Paul's computer must be down or something, that must be why he hasn't answered your post...
I can't speak for how he ended up with the score he had- but I can tell you what his score was... a 71. How can I be so sure, you ask? Because I shot a 71 too... What is my excuse for shooting a 71, you ask? Being 9 months pregnant was probably a determining factor... ;) :D
Let's anxiously await Paul's explanation. It's going to have to be a doozy- and he can't use pregnancy, I called it first. :D

<font color="red">HAWK TRIUMPHS OVER EVIL IN FIRST EVER TOUR STOP RIPT MATCH </font>
<font color="blue"> Two Players Join In Late And Flee Fearfully </font>
Rich and I met at the Rock this afternoon to try out his RIPT deck. With only the knowledge that the cards tell you what to do we had a go at it. The rules as we understand them are these: Each player begins with three cards. After each drive whomever is closest to the pin gets another card. If a player wins a hole, that player gets another card. Each player can have no more than seven cards at a time. Once a card is used, it goes back into the deck. Off we went. On #2 Rich goes left into the trees. I contemplate my "Move your opponents lie ten paces card", but hold back figuring I've got a chance at a stroke here already. Rich fives to my four. :DOn #3 I deuce while Rich takes a four. :oOn #4 I whip out my "Choose one disc from your opponents bag that they can't use the rest of the round" card. I went for the Mojo (insert own joke here), but Rich counters with his "No way" card and is able to keep his putter. Rich then points out that the card I attempted to play would have no effect on me if the roles were reversed as I have four of each mold I carry in my bag. ;) On #5 we both miss long approaches, and then we each use a "10 paces" card on each other. I position Rich too favorably due to idiocy, while he puts me in the middle of some briars. We both four. On #6 I make Rich change drivers, and pick up a stroke. On #7 we both four. On #8 Rich uses a card that allows him to create a new tee anywhere within 20 paces of the actual tee. He sticks us with a hyzer drive that puts us both in the left side woods. I have to use my "Adjust your lie two paces" card to have a shot out. On #9 I use a "Pick a disc that your opponent has to play the entire hole with" card. Sticking Rich with his Sidewinder, he takes a circle six to my three.
Scores after nine were:
Hawk-31
Rich-38
While putting out on #9 my cell rings and it's 857 looking for us. He joins us at #10's tee with Jim "Foot Fault" Brazil. We introduce the concept to the boys and they agree to give it awhirl. After watching Rich and I go for two holes, they bail as predicted to hook up with Ski and Mr. Sherwood. On #11 Rich makes me retee after I have a decent drive, and then I exceed the one he made me take back. Nothing is going right for the birthday boy. :( On #12 (which was a sheet of ice) I end up dead center of the ice flow. After much positioning, I manage to Spider up the rest of the hill and skip left under the basket. On #14 Rich muffs his three putt, and uses a putt mulligan card, and misses again. On #15 Rich Orcs into the creek for a circle four. On #16 Rich has a good drive, so I make him retee, and he catches an early tree and heads left. Rich goes five to my four on #18 long as we finish the back:
Hawk-30 (60*)
Rich-35 (73)
*My final RIPT card allowed me to deduct one stroke from my round. :D
We both really liked the game, and agreed that it tended to punish poor play as the better driver gets one card each hole, as does the winner of the hole, and if you're walking around with four or five cards constantly your armed to the teeth. I was driving really well today, so I was playing with a full hand most of the round. We shall do this again. Are you brave enough to join us? ;)

<font color="purple">Babe Card Update </font>
Okay I've been thinking about what to do with these. As some of you know the 2005 cards were a quickie prompted by an idea from 857. I'm not thrilled with the quality of the cards this season, and have already begun working on the 2006 batch. 40 are already done which might be enough to get us through next year. More girls! 40 different pics so far! Even with a less than stellar product, requests for cards continue to pour in. As for this year several of you have approached me at events looking for me to organize a mass challenge. Frankly I'm not motivated to work that hard on that part of this. These were really conceived for casual rounds i.e. Tour Stops between two or more consenting adults. Kind of like dating. I believe Mr. Sherwood is of a similar mind when it comes to dealing with tag matches at tourneys with the exception of the 12 annual Paint Branch events at which he may be morally obligated to run his Tag operation. Also I've been looking for ways to differentiate cards from tags as I see no point in reinventing the wheel. The first obvious difference is the playoff rule we have. Secondly no challenge can be turned down. For example Dr. Evil forgot his #2 or #3 card yesterday, so I'll be collecting that on Sunday...prior to putting it right back up as I suspect a return challenge will be issued. To initiate a challenge a card holder must approach another card holder and declare, "I challenge thee." A second option is to look at another card holder and simply say, "Babe Card." At this point the challengee must accept. I think challenges should be limited to foursomes or so for simplicity sake. Do you really want to track down 15 people after a tourney? Also there will be a card finale at the end of the year. Since Mr. Sherwood already is running a traditional operation, the card finale needs to be different. What we'll be having is an all inclusive finale. Tenatively we'll be at Patapsco or Rockburn one Saturday in mid-December. I'll be using the Gangloff rating handicap method to balance the field so that everyone starts off even. I will use the latest ratings update from Chuck & Co. If someone is non-PDGA and ratingless they will be assigned a 900 rating. Now the twist. We'll be playing a round of RIPT (http://www.innovadiscs.com/ript/index.html) (disc golf challenge rules) for the title! Chaos? A debacle? What could be more fitting? :DWe'll be having RIPT tour stops between now and then, and I would suggest that anyone interested invest in a deck of the cards. You should definitely know how it works before showing up in December. Cards are available at www.zonedriven.com. (http://www.zonedriven.com.) Winner of the card finale round receives an official embroidered Maryland Amateur Tour polo shirt declaring them 2005 Babe Card Challenge Champion. The shirt will be awarded soon after the event as I can't realistically preorder it. For example Lindsay and Rich don't exactly wear the same size, and I want to make sure the winner gets their correct size. Rich in a medium or Lindsay in a XXL wouldn't really work. I had considered an engraved silver plated tray or something as the trophy, but that kind of trophy just sits on a shelf somewhere. Who wouldn't want to poudly sport this collared puppy at all their PDGA events in 2006? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dear Eagle Boy,
We do infrequently roll into the fabulous Seneca Creek State Park for some Tour action. It is a little bit more of a haul for some of us though, and since I have to make that commute five times a week already, it's not one of my favorite drives. With the Soiree coming up sometime in April, we will be making a couple of stops over there between now and then as Rich and I hone our skills to avoid the dreaded DFL.

<font color="purple"> RICH ROARS BACK IN RIPT REVENGE ROUND AT ROCKBURN </font>
<font color="green">Big Tom Makes Rare Tour Appearance And Takes Second </font>
Three of us set out this afternoon for an enjoyable windy round o'Ript. Tom displayed a diabolical evilness far beyond the good doctors, and a natural affinity for the game. On #3 Rich parks the basket for an apparent drop in deuce, but Tom pulls out a swap drives card and makes the deuce! :D On #4 Rich gets a little redemption when he Sidewinders 15' from the basket and takes the deuce. :cool:On #7 true horror ensues as Tom makes Rich throw a thumber off the tee to terrible results. Then Rich whips out a swap drives on me after I Spider down past the A pin. Now I'm in the mess. :( I end up with a seven. On #8 Tom (who appears to have fully mastered the sidearm drive and approach) goes left, but then approaches to within 10'. I make him reapproach, and from there we have a couple of missed putts for Tom to take a six. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif On #9 Tom makes me play the entire hole with one of my Aviar putters. I attempt to make Rich recreate the debacle of last time with him playing the entire hole with his Sidewinder. (He took a six last time ;)) and Tom's using his whole bag. I get across the creek in two shots, and then nail a 50' putt for the three! :cool:Then Tom pulls out a card cancelling my putt, and makes me redo it. :( It became a four.
Scores after nine:
Rich-32
Tom-34
Hawk-35
On #11 my approach lands within 6' of the pin, so Rich makes me redo it. A couple of botched putts later and I eat a six. :( On #13 Rich deuces, and then I match him to prevent him from getting another card. Rich was dominating the drives today, so he was king of the cards. On #15 Rich (who Tom and I have denied the use of two of his drivers) throws his Orange Beast across the creek and parks the basket for a deuce.:eek: We threed and foured everything else.
Scores on the back were:
Rich-27 (60*)
Tom-30 (64)
Hawk-33 (68)
*Rich had the bad joker which made him add a stroke to his total. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Having more than two players obviously minimized the number of cards one can win by taking a hole, so whoever is driving the best and getting the CTP cards has the advantge. I appear to be missing a card gentleman, so please check your bags.
Dick
Feb 19 2005, 08:44 PM
i don't have the card. did you pick up the one i threw to your bag that time?
also 15 was my orange beast as you guys had denied me my pro orc AND my redskins beast. i think my margin of victory was somehow avoiding getting stuck with a 6 or a 7 by the diabolical cards. i really didn't take that many ctp's until the last 6 holes.
hawkgammon
Feb 19 2005, 08:47 PM
Touche. The correction has been made. I don't remember you throwing a card to my bag, so I'm going to have to say probably not. Zonedriven has been down since you Roc geeks crashed it the other day, so I can't order a fresh deck. I did procure a new plastic holder this afternoon though.

I found a disc belonging to Dean at Pine Grove today. The number is disconnected, so I'm open to suggestions on how to get it back to him.
I played solo and deuced #1 and 8. Missed the mando on #11 (again ) [though I ended up parked :D] for a circle six. Also took a five on #13 after one of several cases of yellow fever courtesy of the Discatcher. Ended up at 62.

shark led 9 golfers on a merry journey at the rock.
we broke up into 3 groups.
jim myers actually took a bogey on 7, but still managed a 50 to retain whatever tag he had. the rest of us finished in a pack, except for big tom who slipped and fell and wasn't able to finish. i called him and he is ok.
grape and ray led the hoi poloi with 57's, taking tags 11 and 7 respectively. I manged to hold off BB with a 58 to his 59, even though i botched a great drive on 10 into a 4, and had a 4 for the second straight day on #3. i got 13 and bb takes tag 22. shark shoots 60 i think for the 24 tag and brazil has a bad day and leaves sporting the 26 tag.

<font color="red">Attention Babe Carders! </font>
I understand that there has been some amusing interplays when players have opted to keep the higher numbered card instead of the lower one they actually won due to a preferred picture. While certainly not against this kind of activity, it brings up the point again that there are only two differing photos. I am contemplating issuing the 2006 cards now and having us use them for this year and next just to make this even more...fun. I could simply swap out whatever number you currently have with the exact same number. They should last two years due to the quality craftsmanship involved. We would still have a champion for this year in December. Thoughts?
Dick

change them out. the pictures should be better on the lower numbered cards, not the other way around. unless you want everyone chasing #12!!!! :D

how many calvert tags does mr. sherwood have? /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
"Amusing Interloper" YES I opted for a higher tag soley because the ***** shot is SO much more appealing than the other ! Spoken like a true "[*****] man" Seneca on Sunday ??? I'm 901 where's that get me ?!?!

GLEN NARROWLY AVOIDS LOSING #1 TAG TO LOWLY AM IN DRUID HILL TIE!
ski and i played a chilly but sunny round from the metals at 0845 HRS. ski was up by five at the break, but i narrowed that to one by hole 17. then i doinked a putt for a four on 18 to ski's par to finish +3 and +5.
glen joined us for a second round, then we picked up rick on hole four. i capped off a signature hole birdie week putting my valkerie 15' left of the pin on 6C for deuce (i hit 15B at the rock- my other favorite deuce- wednesday). after nine, i think it was
glen 25
ski 27
paul 28
rick 29
i deuced 12, 14, 17, 18 with a bogey on 11C.
finals scores
paul 52
glen 52
ski 53
rick 56?
glen kept his #1 tag by nature of the tie
my cumulative record vs. glen now stands at 2-372-1. that's two very close calls for glen and his precious 1 tag in one week.

It was merely a psychological ploy to reel you in after you jumped out to that six stroke lead after six holes. Obviously it worked as I defeated you by eight over the remaining 12 holes. <font color="blue">Party Crashed On The Back Nine By The Hepcat </font>
Arriving at Druid at around 1150 I found several people loitering about...aimlessly. While speaking with one of them Sean B. rolls up and says he's there to play me! A first for the Tour. :cool:After some remedial warming up off we went. I was trying out the Sherwinder today as well as dusting off some Beasts. I ease out into the lead on #3 when my drive sails past the infamous white tree, and I manage to make the putt for a three. On #4 I head straight for the basket, skipping off to the left. Sean drives dead at it also and lands also within 15'. I make the deuce :) while the ponytailed one clanks metal :(. On #5 I again manage to park and putt for a deuce while Sean lands at the bottom of the hill. His putt for three sails past the basket, and then he flys by again, and again...before closing it out with a six. :mad:I return the favor on #6 when I decide to try and Sherwinder through the annie route to the left and try to ease down the road. The basket is currently back left. Hitting a tree I bounce back not even clearing the first road. :oThen I Leopard into another tree landing in the first road. Finally I Spider to where I meant to be two throws prior, and promptly boink the putt for a five. :( Sean meanwhile takes the traditional route and scores a solid three. :) Not taking this turn of events lightly, I Sherwinder up the hill parking #7 for a deuce.
Scores after nine were:
Hawk-26
Sean-32
Crossing over to #10 greatness approaches us in the form of Glen sporting the coveted #1 Babe Card. I promptly upgraded him to the new card and he was mightily pleased quickly securing it in his jock. A series of mediocrity ensued until Glen deuced #13 driving with his shiney new KC Roc. He followed that up by using the same disc to get within striking distance to deuce #14. On #17 we surround the pin, but I'm the lonely loser :( as both Sean and Glen deuce it. :cool:I manage to become one of the cool kids as I Beast to within 10' of #18 to match Sean's second deuce. :)
Scores on the back were:
Glen-25
Hawk-26 (52)
Sean-28 (60)
I prevented Sean from procuring the #3 Babe Card. :D

actually, conditions couldn't have been better. it was a little windy, but nothing compared to weekday afternoon jaunts to the rock in sub-freezing wind chills with 2'' of ice over the past few weeks. the tees were muddy, but it hovered around freezing to keep them stiff and comfortable. the second round was warm and sunny.
when i saw the radar at 6AM, i almost pulled a hairfarmer. but i stopped at a target and bought a golf umbrella on the way down thinking, "if i buy a nice umbrella, it won't rain". chit if i didn't open the dirn thing up once. :p

I went down to Bluemont today to renew my club membership, and practice up for the upcoming Spring Pro/Am. They went one giant field of 30ish players, three times around (27 total holes) from the red, white, and for me never played blue tees that are used in the final nines.
I shot a very disappointing 29 from the shorts where I either parked the hole for a deuce, or took a four. The putting thing was not working for Your Disc Golf Hero today. :mad:The lowlight was on the monstrous uphill #5 where my putt for four went right through as many chains as physically possible and out the backside. I did play this round with Dave Hendrickson though, and he gave me a stack of the current issue of Disc Golf Magazine to distribute to the unwashed at tomorrows club event. Also Dave's another one of those people putting with a JuJu. Many of my fans were dismayed at my score which put me on the last card :ofor round two from the middle tees.
Saddling up I came out in round two blistering racking up CTP after CTP as my good friend the Leopard was slithering through the woods in an amazing manner. I ended that round at 26 which might have been the best score shot. Eventual winner (and current #1 DGCNV tag holder Ron Turner; who said he would try to hit Paint Branch tomorrow) shot a 29. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Now sitting on card two in eighth place my group prepares to go from the blues. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Watching the lead card start on #1 and struggle was not encouraging. I started out with fives on #9 (embarassing) and another on #1 (not quite as embarassing) to take myself out of respectability right away. I managed one lone three for the nine, and my three partners shot 34's to my 37. This left me in 13th place. :(

I ran into the #2 card today at the Paint Branch monthly in the person of Sgt. Ski. After trading out his card and also Scott Harper Valley PTA Grape Ape, I thought it was in my hands until the purplish one outshot me by a stroke to snag Janelle #2. I still sit at #3, and Ski is now #5 Kara.
In another unfortunate tag note, Joe P. came in second or third in Masters taking my #13 tag, and sticking me with #29. :( On the bright side the Disc Golf Club of Northern Virginia took 2 out of 5 money spots at Paint Branch.

<font color="purple">DEEBO WINS RARE TOUR STOP APPEARANCE </font>
<font color="red">Hawk Leaves Rich Behind For Second </font>
<font color="green">shark tour lurks around in misty rain </font>
Having been rejected by the Shark Tour, we welcomed Deebo into Rich and my mano y mano showdown. Naturally Rich forgot all of the necessary lubricants for his chainsaw, so the tree still blocks #9. :( Playing from the blues we set off to have a go at some of the freshly shuffled baskets courtesy of the other Myers.
Trying out my old friend the QJLS I sail into the abandoned ball field. From there I prompty approach the basket and sail past it into the parking lot for a circle five. :oMeanwhile Deebo takes a three. On #2 Rich takes the worse kick left I've ever witnessed, and goes deep off the fairway. He's barely in the park. He ends up with a six. On the newly lengthened #3 Deebo takes another three. On #5 Deebo crushed a drive dead straight down the fairway, and then the disc hooks right after the last tree. :cool:However he botches this for a four. :oOn #6 we all make a mess of it with Rich and I taking fives. After nine the scores were:
Deebo: 32
Hawk: 34
Rich: 37 :o
At this point the Sharkers come into the parking lot with Billstream proclaiming that he has wrestled the #1 Babe Card from Glen. After trading out the old #9 for Glen with a new #9 we set off for the back with Rich fearful of scoring worse than 857.
On #10 Deebo sails OB into the road for a circle six. Rich got worked by Mr. Sherwood, and his accomplice Billstream who honked their car horn as Rich was teeing off. Yankaroo. We gave Rich the option to retee since the noise was intentionally malicious instead of a random act of God, but he opted to tough it out for a five. On #11 we all have easy putts for threes which we all missed. :oOn #15 Rich takes another five after his drive turned over onto the trail, and his scoobie shot failed, and his third shot landed near the basket, and then rolled past the basket and off to the right. I threed to Deebo's four. On #16 Deebo finally gets our one and only deuce by driving within 10' of the basket. On #17 Rich hits two trees and takes three shots total to get past my drive for another five. Scores on the back nine were:
Deebo: 33 (65)
Hawk: 33 (67)
Rich: 35 (72)
Deebo had Babe Card #17, but Rich couldn't find #3 so Deebo might still be stuck with #17. I suggested Rich find #3 and mail it to Deebo. Further updates on that to come.

you make it sound like i'm a card deadbeat! just a little disorganized.....
the course is looking awesome courtest of hawk. i'll probably clear that laydown on 9 or move the basket to a. i think we need to move at least one basket in closer for ctp's.

Well maybe if you didn't have every card hanging on your walker alongwith your secret decoder ring, you might not have this problem.
Bring in #2. Your CTP's shouldn't be wide open. Make people at least hit the tunnel. Or if you want a wide open one, bring #11 to A.

maybe, we haven't decided yet! ;)
seriously, i played the layout from the longs yesterday with deebo and hawk, and it is just too long to make the INT and am ladies play i would think. you could be looking at scores near 100 for some of the INt and REC guys. Also i really want to have a couiple easier holes rather than have them all so long. i'd like to move at least 2 holes into the short positions. hawk suggests #2. i'd like to do one more. suggestions?

Yes.
15's A sleeve got damaged during mowing last season. If NS can replace it you could use it, but I agree with 857 that you need to leave that one long as it's a classic long hole. You can bring in #11 which is just a Throw it as hard as you can hole anyways. Bring #14 short, and #2.
Dick
Mar 28 2005, 12:52 PM
i think maybye 14 is the best suggestion. but it's not really a good birdie hole even in short, at least for the ams. 3 would be best, but we just moved it out of there!
hawkgammon
Mar 28 2005, 12:59 PM
You don't want to put #3 back as it's been in the same short position forever. You don't want to make everything easy as that takes the character out of the course. You already have Paint Branch and Druid as your shorter courses, and you need to let Patapsco, Seneca and Rockburn be long. Besides you're starting early enough to let everyone get done. Making it Int./Rec. easy is the same mentality that got us into this mess with 29 divisions so everyone's a winner. Mr. Sherwood just wants to shorten #15 as the current position gives him vertigo.
Dick
Mar 28 2005, 01:00 PM
maybe what i should do is move a couple baskets in at lunch time for the long round and leave it as is for the short.
hawkgammon
Mar 28 2005, 01:04 PM
So you are planning on playing short then long? I think you should relax and not sweat this. The tee difference averages what 25' per hole? Not an earthshattering difference distance wise. I'd let the baskets be, and worry about getting the tree gone on #9.

<font color="green">APPARENTLY NO ONE IN MARYLAND HAS A JOB </font>
<font color="purple">Glen Wins One on One Duel of The Unfit </font>
Arriving at Druid around 1330 today I see about 25 people moseying around the course. Why there's the Boyces and their love child. Is that Gawler taking 25' runups? Why yes it is. Check out Brady and a very young girl. ;)
There's Norm and a bunch of guys in polos and khaki's. Then some guy shows up in a blazer like he got lost from the Yacht Club. There were other assorted flingers.
I intended to practice putting for awhile, and got a good solid hour in attempting to refine my stroke. Glen arrived about halfway through this, so we worked on our strokes together. We then set off from #10 playing the longs, with Norm.
A lengthy series of 3's and 4's ensued. Glen was feeling a little under the weather, and my throwing shoulder was sore from 70 drives at the high school yesterday, and well Norm is 58. On #16 I break the rut we are in by taking a five after Boyding my drive with the Beast. Then I bust up the star frame when Norm and Glen park and deuce #17 while I demonstrate my new stroke by clanking metal. Scores on the back were:
Glen-26
Norm-30
Hawk-32
At this point Norm left for a prior engagement, or in disgust with our collective play. On #2 Glen lands his Roc within 10' for the deuce while I fail to turn the Sherwinder over, and take a four. :oOn #3 I crank the Sherwinder into the edge of the right side of the ramp failing to even make it into the field. Another five! We both land about 20' from #7, while Glen makes his deuce and I don't. :( On #8 we both deuce, though Glen's was further out. Glen finishes the turkey by deucing #9. I got another three!
Scores on the front were:
Glen-25 (51)
Hawk-30 (62)
Glen is taking a soak and some Cold-Eze, and I'm resting the shoulder for awhile.

<font color="blue">857 MAKES SUCCESSFUL RIPT DEBUT AT DRUID </font>
The numbered one and I had a go of it around 1500 this afternoon. I suggested RIPT from the shorts, and he finally agreed as he does want to play in the Babe Card Finale at the end of the season. We both threed #'s 1 and 2, and then things got interesting. 857 uses a card on me in which he selected a disc from his bag that I had to drive with, and he selected a disc from my bag to use for his drive. He chose my 175g Beast, and graciously allowed me to use his beat up no weight marked Aviar putter. Needless to say he barely edged me out for that holes CTP. I took the first four, by missing a 15' putt for the three. Lots of clanking metal on my part today. On #6 I take another four as the Sherwinder didn't make the first road. This disc is barely hanging in my bag. On #7 I make 857 tomahawk from the tee which works out disappointingly well for him as his Leopard  lands up on the hill and turns into a roller. I park the basket with the TeeBird, but 857 moves me behind a tree. Meanwhile he makes a 40' putt for the deuce. :cool:On #8 857 parks the basket with his driver, but I make him retee. I Rhyno down to within 15', but again clank metal. :( At least the new stroke means more metal more of the time. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif After #8 I tried to change the card luck by using a reshuffle card, but that didn't really get me anywhere. On #9 857 again deuces to my three. Scores after nine were:
857-25
Hawk-29
On #10 I Leopard down to within 4' of the basket, but 857 again moves me behind a tree. He was racking up a lot of CTP cards, and using them to brutal effectiveness. He did take a four to my three though. On #11 the Sherwinder again fails to turnover, and 857's flick is marginally more effective for yet another CTP card. On #12 I Spider down to within 5' of the basket, but 857 makes me retee again!!! I return the favor on #13 when 857 drives to within 8' of the basket. On #15 I drive into the cluster of evergreens on the right. These trees need a cool name. My Rhyno approach ends up in the thorn bush short. I take a four. I also take a four on #16 when I drive into the circle around the basket, but again get moved behind a tree by 857. A missed putt follows a mediocre approach. On #17 I park and finally deuce after 857 cancels the card I try to lay on him for the second time. On 18 857 goes for the total protection of his four stroke lead by making my throw a thumber off the tee. While the distance was acceptable I ironically and fittingly end up directly behind a tree. 857 crushes a pressureless drive dead straight at the basket for a possible deuce, but takes the safe three to my five. :oScores on the back were:
857-28 (53)
Hawk-30 (59)
No Spin and Pitts were out practicing for Sunday, and Jim was intrigued by the RIPT concept, so we should be able to get him to play at some point.

ript was fun, but i'm still a purist and prefer the straight up stroke play. i don't believe our scores would have been different at all. if anything they might have been lower because of the re-tee'd park jobs.
i think ript really favors someone who knows the course well. i was waiting to make hawk throw a thumber from fifteen's metal but lost the card to soon :D
btw... this is a bit of an exageration...
He chose my 175g Beast, and graciously allowed me to use his beat up no weight marked Aviar putter. Needless to say he barely edged me out for that holes CTP.
i didn't crush it by any means, but hawk's aviar flipped (duh), caught an edge and rolled about halfway along the thick onion grass ditch on the right. my drive was about 10' shy of the white tree in the middle for a painless three.

The sidewinder is a tricky disc. I am carrying 4 now, a light purple 166 that might be starting to show a little wear, a bright yellow surprisingly fresh 166 that I lost on patap 17 about 8 months ago recently returned by seven after wildman gave it to him at the rock, cool :) discs returned via the disc golf grapevine!, a purple 167, and my new secret weapon a red 172 heavywinder for when I want less movement on the shot.
Nice shooting MD219852, you too hawk, don't worry your putt will come around ;) BTW what are you trying with the putt, more of a push putt or what?

In a bizarre coincidence when I arrived at Patapsco today at high noon I found two aging hippies loitering around the practice baskets. Apparently the Shark Tour had also scheduled a tour stop for the exact same time and place. Then Marc Crist arrived, and after we had played the first hole Minefski and Boston Ray joined in. I was horribly weak from giving samples at this mornings physical not even making it to the mando from #3 blue with my drive. After yanking my drive on #4 into the first or second tree I threw in the towel and bailed on the effort. I know not what happened to the other five.
After rehydrating and fueling up I headed back out at 1500. He who lacks spin was just completing the front nine from blue, and I played the back blues with him. Jim ended up three over on the back to my four over. I believe he was one over for his entire round.
I went ahead and played the 18 from the red as I had intended to do earlier. I deuced #2 and #16 with everything else being a three or four with the exception of #15 where I took a bad five. I took a non counted practice drive with the Sherwinder on that hole after my botched drive and put it under the log next to the basket. :) An uncounted deuce resulted. :( Total for me was a 60.
I have replacement cards for Linds and 857 in the truck for Saturday.
