final TNT recap...

a hefty 28 player crowd came out for the last TNT of '04 on a gorgeous october evening. no spin was the final mini out of the bag and was placed on what was thought to be the lowest team with local rich (1), jim b (3), and smokin' joe (3) at seven. after the teams left i realized my team was also a seven shark (3), dan (IR2) and myself (2) but it was too late to flip for the champ. it was probably fortunate because everyone on my team played about a point higher than their rating (maybe shark was a 3.5). we finished a solid -13, having missed a few putts.

i **** near aced hole 4 through the pines with a perfect S-turn. it was the best shot i've had in a while. i just had to point that out. i also kicked shark's [*****] at the putting contest, yet again.

team dean, the other paul and pat m smoked the course with a near record -17. a few teams came in at -15.

all but one person entered the ace pot so an even $400 carries over to next season. how bout dem apples? guaranteed $200 minimum ace pot payment to kick off TNT in '05.

thanks everyone for coming out last night and all season long. i had a blast each and every thursday and can't wait till next season.

don't forget to celebrate the last weekday of daylight savings today, 4 o'clock at the rock.

paul, shark, brady and glen tee'd off to kick off the tour stop. shark's drive mysteriously vanished in the left tall grass. both brady and shark bogey holes one and two  glen cruises while paul hangs until a scary seven on hole eight. talk about a round killa :o

jim b, service, BB, dr. evil and ski tee'd behind the fearsome foursome. paul bet shark a quarter that ski would beat dr. evil and even gave up a half stroke to give the good doctor the tie.

scores after nine

glen 24
BB 25
jim b 26
service 26
ski 26
dr. evil 27
brady 30
shark 30
paul 33

controversy arose on hole fifteen where paul's drive crashed across the creek and brady's landed close but short. a nervous shark insisted paul's disc was OB, but group consensus went otherwise. (hey shark, the disc has to be SURROUNDED by water to be OB. check your rule book. :p)paul lit the afterburners and deuced 16 and 17 and pulled off a three to everyone elses bogey on 18 long. service was the only person to par 18 long on the other card as well. word is, it was an ugly three :o

final scores

glen 50
greg 52
ski 54
jim b 55

<font color="blue">GLEN IS KING OF CALVERT AFTER ROLLER WAR AND ROUND FROM THE TIPS! </font>

<font color="green">Kelly & Hawk Battle For Title Of Worse Roller </font>

<font color="purple">beach bricks five foot putt on last hole to tie world champ </font>

Five of us teed it up a little after 1000 this morning on the colorful and slightly damp Swamp. In attendence was myself, the good Dr. Evil, World Champion Swartz, and suprise guests Glen H. and Swamp Course Pro Silver Wolf.

The rules, as they were, simply said you needed to roll off the tee. Everything else was throwers choice. We started on #1 from the reds.

Right off the bat Rich and I had trouble with the mando. We didn't miss it, but we were in less than ideal locations, and ended up eating fives. :( Meanwhile SW parks it and opens with a deuce. :cool:Glen matches SW's deuce with one of his own on #2. I manage another five on #4 :o, and then Rich finds mando trouble again on hole 6 taking a circle six. Kelly joins the circle club with one of her own for a five. Rich then takes another five on #7  before deucing out on #'s 8 & 9 . Kevin also deuced #8, :) and Glen dueced #9. :)

Scores after nine were:
Glen-26
Silver Wolf-26
Kelly-32
Rich-34
Hawk-34

Onto the back nine where on #10 Glen insists that I try a found Stingray for rolling vs. my tacoed Pro TeeBird-L. I park #10 with my TeeBird, and then assume the identity of Christopher Dorsey, and park the basket even closer with the Stingray. Hmmmm... Joining me in the deuce club on #10 were Glen and SW. #12 gets deuced by Rich and SW, and then Rich stays hot on #13 getting another deuce, and is joined by Kelly who also deuces the hole. :D#14 starts a hot streak by Glen (who stated before the round that he wanted to shoot -6 ;)) who deuces 14, 15, 16 & 17! :cool:SW also deuced #14.

Scores on the back nine were:
Glen-22 (48)
SW-25 (51)
Rich-25 (59)
Kelly-28 (60)
Hawk-29 (63)

During the round we noticed Dub and C. Beach playing a round, and on #17 Big Greg came lumbering down the fairway. This gave us an eightsome for the blue (throwers choice) round, so we broke down into two foursomes, and sent the pro boys off with Chris, and Kelly got to play with the Am's. ;) Our group started on #1 and the big boys/Beach went to #10.

Dr. Evil, who was unhappy with his putting, switched over to the Mojo ;) :p, and stopped using the cursed Codorus mini after the front nine. :D

Rich deuces #1 , but follows that up with a five on #2 . Meanwhile Greg and I follow similar flight paths on #2 and both end up making our deuce putts. :) Rich deuces #6 sailing the now infamous <font color="purple"> murple </font> Roc through the double mando for a park job. Kelly takes a five on #8 after choosing to take the scenic route. ;)

Meanwhile Chris and SW open up their round deucing #10, but Kevin then takes a 5 on #11. :( Beach takes a circle five on #14 which I assume means he went over the toxic waste dump on the right disguised as a creek. Regrouping Chris deuces #15 :) as does SW. Dub rouses from slumber on #'s 16 & 17 deucing both of them , and SW joins him deucing #17.

Scores after nine were:
Dub-25
Greg-27
Hawk-28
Rich-28
Silver Wolf-28
Beach-29
Kelly-29
Glen-29

Moving onto the back Rich deuces #10 right after switching from the Codorus mini. Coincidence? You decide! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif On #11 disaster strikes as Greg takes a <font color="red"> triple! </font> circle 11. :o :o :oHis drive from the blue tee missed the mando. :p His retee from the red misses. :( Going for the third flick in a row, Greg again misses the mando. :mad:Finally on his fourth tee off he clears the mando. Greg keeps it together the rest of the round though and collects deuces on #'s 15 & 17. :cool:The only other notable occurrence on the back was Ms. Rachel joining us on #13 dressed as a stage hand/mime sporting the chic all black look. She threw the rest of the course with us left handed averaging a four on each hole.

In the other group Glen stays hot deucing #'s 1 & 2. :cool:Dub also collects the deuce on #2. :) Glen continues pairing his deuces by collecting #'s 5 & 6 :), and is again joined by TK who deuces #6, while Beach takes a circle five. :( Glen closes his round by deucing #9, and Chris parks #9 on his drive, but doinks the five footer for a three. :o

Scores from the second nine were:
Glen-23 <font color="red">(52)</font>[100]
Rich-27 <font color="purple">(55)</font>[114]
Dub-28 <font color="blue">(53)</font>
Hawk-28 (56)[119]

What a shocking display of a hissy fit by Merwood! :oAll the boys were atitter about it at todays Tour stop. :D

i can't tell what he was so PO'd about.

either his poor performance or the OB debate. it was kinda funny seeing him climb down to the bottom of the creek bed to stick his finger under the disc to see if it was water when the rest of the group clearly said it was IB. i marked it, played my shot and called my score (4 :( ) not even considering that it might have been OB (even after shark's analysis) then he asked "you think that wasn't OB?" :D

tentatively playing pine grove with the hairfarmer at 10:30 today, but that might change cause it is mighty wet. regardless, there will be a 10:30 tee off in the greater baltimore metro area today.

<font color="red">HAWK DEFEATS PAUL 54-57 MANO Y MANO </font>

<font color="blue">Schweb $5 Richer Thanks To Mr. Gammon ;) </font>

I was running late as noted above, and I managed to make Druid at around 1130. Unbeknownst to me Mr. Druid @ 3:45 had been frantically trying to reach me all morning after talking his usual smack about me in the chat room this a.m. and taking some betting action. Due to Paul's alleged interest in returning to his office after our round we agreed to throw from the metals. Paul declined to do a roller round as he conviently left his roller at home. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We both parked #1 for easy deuces. Paul takes a one stroke lead on #3 when I take a four by doinking a 10'er. :oPaul gives me the stroke back on #5 when the Yankanator returns sending his drive down the road that leads away from the animal hospital. He would have been a good 100+ down the road behind the trees if he hadn't caught a break and hit a limb that knocked him down. He crashes almost all the way through the screen for a four. I was pin high and 25' away, but fearing the dreaded roll down the hill, I sissyed up for my three and the tie. On #6 we both hit the first tree off the tee leaving us with long second shots. I Proline Spidered down to within 10' :cool:while Paul didn't. Back to back fours for Mr. Druid. We both take fours on #7 as we hit trees trying to cross back across the road off the tee. On #8 Paul secures his second deuce of the front nine by spike hyzering his CFR Banshee into #8 for a park job. :) I blow past the basket with the Spider and miss the deuce putt. :(

Scores after nine were:
Paul-28
Hawk-28

On #11 I try the DX Leopard (hey Rich it's back! :D) but cut it way short and end up off the fairway to the right. Paul threes to my four. Disaster strikes for everyones favorite young Republican on #14 when Paul sails to the right of the mando. :oMeanwhile my Ch. TeeBird is parked 10' from the basket. :) Naturally I doink /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif my second ten footer of the day ending up with a three, while Paul takes a circle five. :mad:On #15 Paul's drive goes into the cedar cluster while my TeeBird sails mightily towards the pin for a park job and deuce.:DOn #17 I again TeeBird up to the pin for another deuce :D while Paul threes.

Scores on the back nine were:
Hawk-26
Paul-29

<font color="orange"> SKI WINS SECOND DRUID HILL TOUR STOP </font>

<font color="red"> Hawk Takes Second Over Paul </font>

<font color="green">doe$ paul owe $chweb more money? </font>

As Paul and I concluded our match on #18 we spy SexSki and a lovely lady photographer loitering around the SkiMobile near #1. Has Ski outdone me and is now traveling with his own personal press corp? It turns out that the photographer is Ski's new special lady. ;) Ski and Paul were ready to head out again, and I was off to do pre-Florida errands, but Paul nagged and whined that I needed to give him another shot. I really didn't want to, but after watching both of their drives on #1 I decided what the heck, it's only going to take 75 minutes playing from the metals.

Teeing off third I park the Spider on #1 for a deuce. :cool:Paul proceeds to take fours on #'s 2 & 3. :(
On #5 I TeeBird up to the basket for another deuce. :) On #6 Ski cranks a Buzz past the pin, and makes his deuce as his putter flops into the basket like a fish being brought in over the side of a boat. I take a four. :( Ski gets hot at this point deucing #'s 7 & 8. :cool:There was much discussion on what to throw on #8. I went with the KC Aviar and parked it 2' for the duece. Ski went with the CFR Classic Roc, and made his putt. Paul again spike hyzered the CFR Glow Banshee, but had to settle for a three. On #9 Ski bricks his par putt and takes a four, Paul yanks his drive into the Three Sisters for a circle four, and I three.

Scores after nine:
Ski-25
Hawk-25
Paul-30

On #10 Paul goes right into what remains of the rough, and then clunks his out shot and takes a four. At some point a decision will need to be made on where the OB is on that side of the hole since so much has been cut, that you are almost into the Three Sisters area over there. I take a four on #11 as I fail to clear the corner with the Spider (0-2 for that on the day :D). Ski comes alive again with the first of his back nine deuces on #12, and follows that up by deucing #'s 13, 14 & 15. :D All three of us deuced #15 as all of our drives ended up within 10' of the basket. To make things interesting Ski and Paul decided to go $1 CTP on the last three holes. I declined to participate as I am morally opposed to gambling and didn't want to take the lads money. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif On #16 I park the CE spider 2' from the basket for a deuce, and CTP moral victory. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Paul earns the dollar against Ski on that hole. On #17 Paul loses the CTP :(, but makes the longer putt for the deuce. :) On #18 Paul heads toward GreenSpring Ave. and takes a final four. Ski goes to the A pin, and I again win the CTP moral victory with the TeeBird. ;)

Scores on the back nine were:
Ski-23 (48)
Hawk-27 (52) [106]
Paul-27 (57) [114]

Wednesday-Day One:

Left Baltimore early Wednesday morning heading to Indian Rocks Beach via Cincinnati. Landing in Cincinnati Delta makes it a little exciting by nearly overrunning the runway on the landing. We hit the ground and Pilot Bob hits the reverse thrusters as soon as the wheels hit the ground, and then locks up the brakes as we slide down the runway. Have you ever been in a sliding airplane at 200mph? :D

At the airport we learn that Kerry has conceded.

Driving in from the Tampa airport I observe a sign for something called Ker's Winghouse (http://www.winghouse.com/high/index.html) where the girls are attired very much like at Hooters. This will need to be investigated.

Thursday-Day Two:

I headed out this morning to check out Cliff Stephens. It is very warm and oppressively humid down here. The route to the course takes me right past the Winghouse which is very convenient, and then I see another billboard for something called Muggs n Juggs. :DThis will also need to be investigated. There is also a plethora of adult establishments here offering not merely dancing, but LIVE SHOWS!!! Hmmmm.... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The front nine is short and semi-wooded, if you count Spanish Moss Trees as woods. Using the Spider and KC Aviar off the tee leaves me -1 through nine. I doinked a couple of 10 foooters during this nine :( , but also nailed a 45 footer to save one three.. Holes 3-5 have the basket about five feet from a drop-off that will put you in the creek. Average hole length is probably 250' off the Am tees. I hook up with local Ron for the back 11 (they are playing 20 holes per round, one round from the Pro and Am tees each day) where the holes get longer, and the water comes more into play. Saw my first gator lounging on the bank on the back side. According to Ron this 5 footer is a baby. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Also a large Heron lands while we're shooting, and little newt type lizards are scurrying around everywhere. According to Ron the mocassins are much more of a problem than the gators. On a couple of these holes you do need to crank it over the lake, and on #16 the Pro tee is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. I take a DX Teebird and end up inches from being in the lake. :oYou do need to throw the driver on the back nine. #18 is a 700 foot straight drive which I almost managed to three banging my 20 footer off the top of the basket. I ended up shooting a 67 for the 20 holes from a combination of Am and Pro tees. Thanks to Ron for the guided tour. By the way Ron may be the tallest disc golfer ever at around 6'8". :D :D

Heading back I swing into Muggs n Juggs to use the facilities. The staff looks fairly competent , but the clientle looks like the kind of place that there's a 50% chance I may have to fight my way out of. I proceed onto Ker's Winghouse, and may try Muggs tomorrow. At the Winghouse a cellulite riddled server takes me to my table, and turns me over to my server who is eight months pregnant.   Now the decor is 95% identical to your standard Hooter's, but you don't see many knocked up servers at Hooter's. :D Also another of the servers appears to be of an age and tanned to such a degree to be my ex-wife. :DAgain not what one is looking for at this kind of establishment. I got up after placing my order and moseyed around, and some of the girls were okay, but overall a disappointment. On the other hand my wings were all drumsticks, and on the table within five minutes. :DAlso the dessert of chocolate bundt cake with chocolate icing and vanilla ice cream was very yummy. However I would not recommend this to anyone in the area. Did I mention that Lacey my server was 8 months with child!?!?!? I'll attempt to report back on other lunch establishments tomorrow. ;) You know the original Hooters is just up the street! :)

Friday-Day Three

Went back out to the park today, and hooked up with Ron for the back nine from the AM tees. I went +1 on the front taking a really embarassing four on #1. :oI ended up shooting a 61 this time which should be very competitive this weekend. I did manage to lose my first disc in the lake as my TeeBird on #18 sailed well out into the center of it. It floated teasingly for some time, possibly drifting back to shore, before it sank from sight. :( Fortunately Wendy from Disc Golf Warehouse www.gdisc.com (http://www.gdisc.com) was running a flymart in the parking lot. She also informed me that they have an actual brick and mortar store a couple of miles away.

I moseyed up there, and it was quite an experience. I got a proto DX Spider, and some really funky DX Aviars and TeeBirds that have a swirl pattern to them. It appears they were made as the color of plastic was being changed. Also if anyone is interested they had a lot of proto Valks there, and a huge selection of 150 discs in both DX and Champion.

Word has it Rich that we might be starting around 0900. Here's (http://www.fabflatour.org/) the pre-reg list. We are 78 strong as of right now. I'm planning on getting there around 0730 to ensure reasonable parking. The gentleman at the DG Warehouse said that it is unlikely that they'll use the two temp holes in the woods (B & C) and that they will more than likely set up two other temp holes to speed up play. There is a very scary looking basket on an island in the middle of the lake that has me worried. It has been windy here both days, so plan accordingly. :D

More importantly I visited the Clearwater Hooters and found that the pretty and unfertilized girls were working there. Also for kicks I swung into Mugs N Jugs (http://www.mugsnjugs.com/) where the wait staff appears to be made up primarily of former, or up and coming porn starlets. I will do some research, but I'm pretty confident that I've seen Cheryl on video. ;)

Saturday-Day Four

Unsure of what our start time would be I arrive at 0745 for what turned out to be a 1030 tee-off. Rich rolls in driving his Florida pimp mobile...a very large black Cadillac. Apparently he's running a string of girls while he's down here. Probably out of Mugs n Jugs. ;)

Word has it that there are 41 intermediates here, and Rich is competing against I believe about 20 something Advanced Masters. Everyone shot from the long tees in round one, and Rich ended up third with a 59 while I ended up ninth with a 65. Lunch was provided in the form of cut-up 12' subs.

In round two we lowly ints. played the short tees with the ladies ;), while everyone else played the longs again. Rich had some difficulty getting wet a few times (one of which I witnessed /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) and walked away with a 68 :( to end the day +7. I scooted in at an even 60 to end the day +5 and possibly creeping my way onto the lead card.

During round two a wedding caravan showed up and set up behind the basket on #13. :D I believe things went without incident. Climo was out observing the action, and I played the second round with Mike Barnett of www.sunkingdiscs.com. (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com.) He's a big fan of the Buzz. :) He also had two very cool gummy Spiders for sale. ;) I saw more discs go into water today than any single tourney OB disaster anywhere. On #16 from the long tees many players didn't get over to the IB ground before going OB meaning that had to retee...and retee...and retee. I only lost one there, and was lucky enough to have hyzered OB from IB. It ended up being a circle four after a nice annie second shot with the Leopard back out over the water and landing 2' from the basket. The spotters burst into applause at my skills. :D

Tomorrow we saddle up at 0830 so they can get both rounds in before they do their local finale for thier local series. (http://www.fabflatour.org/)

i played a little worse in round two, but took a pounding with probably 4 water ob strokes. and then at least 2 stupidity strokes.
i hope to do much better tomorrow and return to the lead group by round 4. i really like playing with the old guys down here, many of whom i played with in the spring cross canyon. there are alot of good MM1 players down here, i'm probably 10-11 strokes off the lead after my afternoon troubles.

and hawk, it's a green lincoln continental!

Sunday-Day Five

Well the tourney is over with Rich finishing 11th out of 21 Advanced Masters, and I came in 13th out of 45 Intermediates. Local Ron smoked me by seven strokes in the morning from the longs, and then by I believe three more in the afternoon short round. Ron finishes 5th in his first tourney on his local course. He made the biggest jump of the day shaking off his Saturday morning nerves.

Rich started on #16 long tee today which is the dreaded water shot, and he went triple! circle ten. :o:oThree drives in the water. I would say that it's 300' to the ideal landing zone on that one. Or you can yank it hard right like I did towards the railroad tracks. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The other main water hole you need to clear is #10 and that's probably 250'ish. Many discs never made it. :D They have guys swimming around for the discs at the break and afterwards.

There were no aces, so they CTP'd for the acepoint money. Also there is some 14 year old kid here who is sponsored :D, and lost to me. ;)

can you say tin cup. luckily only a local can claim the 'hammer of woe' which is like a big [*****] 3 foot wooden mallet that the guy voted to have the worst tourney has to carry around the rest of the day.

there are bailout routes sherk, but they aren't pretty, and definitely add AT LEAST a stroke or two. and they aren't gauranteed safe on 16 if you catch a tree or something. wish i took pics. definitely a fun course with water possibly coming into play on at least 1/2 the holes. and like hawk said, 2 of them are 250+ over water. if it fades out, goodbye. if it turns over too much it catches an edge and rolls back down the bank and in. a must play if you are ever in clearwater, but alot of locals said they rarely play it since they lose too many discs.

Lefty came in with a 63, Glen was exuberant that he narrowly avoided the basement.

Highlights for me came when I recovered from a nasty 5 on hole 4, tree, tree, tomahawk, up and in. I came right back with an elevator drive on 5 that ended up 12 feet just to the left of the pin and only about 3 feet from hole high. The Flash. On 7 I hit chains with the san marino roc. Glen's hole 9 started with a whap with the arrow, then a couple more whaps down the hill, then the creek, well you get the picture. Paul did quietly play some good golf and almost shocked the world!

md21954
Nov 09 2004, 09:51 AM
highlights pour moi included a solid 27 on the front nine with a deuce on hole three, a bogey on hole four, a long putt for three on eight and a smart, well played par on hole nine.

the back was highlighted by a deuce on 15 long. too bad for the bogey on the easy deuce hole 14 and the unfortunate 6 on hole 12. take away those (give a four on hole 12) and i'd be even.

overall, very happy with my game (because i beat glen).

Nov 10 2004, 09:32 AM
Have they pulled all the baskets in short?

md21954
Nov 10 2004, 10:03 AM
no. a lot are short, but some holes remain round killas.

nine and fifteen are still long, plus a few others. glen took a snowman on hole nine (downhill, across the creek) where i took a three. i put my drive 10' from fifteen's basket (downhill, across the creek) for deuce. i took a six on hole twelve, which is also still long (up the road, under the power lines, past the wagons). if i could have managed a four on that hole, i'd have the four tag. i missed a couple deuce putts, but made some long par saves. it was the best round i've had in a while versus an uncharacteristically bad round for g-loin. rematch tomorrow, tour stop, 3:30 at the latest. no groups larger than 4.

patapsco today with mystery player x from down south.

<font color="blue">T2 WINS PATAPSCO DOUBLES TUNE-UP TOUR STOP  </font>

<font color="green">Glen A Close Second One Stroke Back :) </font>

<font color="purple"> six month pregnant woman defeats paul by two strokes :D </font>

Seven of us headed out after 1000 today for a round of singles from the blue tees due to the odd number...and people. It was a bit chilly and rather windy with gusts in the 15-20 mph range. Starting on #1 was myself, World Champion Kelly Swartz-Boyce, Tom T. and Mark S. The Zoo Crew consisting of Paul, Glen H. and Jesse Y. was sent packing to #10.

Our group had just completed our second (or in some cases third shots :D) on #1 when Rich and Boyd rolled up yelling that they would tee off and join us. Refusing the sixsome, I sent them off to #10 with the intention of making a fivesome, but the boys thought we were doing doubles, so they set off that way, and never caught up with the Zoo Crew. They did end up shooting a rather soild 56 as a team. :)

We were collecting an assortment of 3's, 4's &amp; 5's on the front. Shark lost his orange Orc on his drive on #4 when it disappeared on the ground a couple of feet off the fairway. Circle five. Our one and only deuce was courtesy of Tom on #7 when his drive ended up near the A pin corral and he made the putt.

Meanwhile the back nine was proving to be Paul's personal disc golf Iraq. 4-4-4-4-5-6-6-5-5. I believe this is a new record of Tour futility. During this debacle Glen and Ras were collecting a set of 3's, 4's &amp; 5's like us on the front.

Scores after nine were:
T2-31
Hawk-32
Ras Disc-34
Mrs. Boyce-35
Glen-35
Mark-36
Paul-43 :o

Crossing the parking lot we observe Sean Boy arrving 1.5 hours past the tee time with a shadowy figure who remained in their vehicle. Coincidence? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif You decide. ;) Kelly's drive on #10 heads for the road, and lands on the pine needles covering the asphalt lacking the luck I had in bouncing across to the safety of grass. Circle 4. :( As we completed #15 Rich and Billstream drive up  and inform us of their doubles score. :D The Professor takes the first six on our card on #16 when he demonstrates according to Mr. T, "Exactly how not to play a hole." :) Ms. 38D gets a six of her own on #17 when her Leopard/second shot from the red tee box :odisappears down the valley near my drive. Circle six.

On the front nine the Dru Hill Boyz are plugging along, and Paul finally breaks through on #3 with a three 12 holes into his round. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Glen and Ras both take circles on #4 (5 &amp; 6 respectively) from what I assume are road OB's. Glen joins Tom by deucing #7 with the second and final two of the day.

Second nine and final scores were:
Glen-30 (65)
Crusty-33 (64)
Jesse-34 (68)
Hawk-35 (67)
Paul-35 (78) /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :o:(
Sherwood-36 (72)
Kelly-41 (76) :p

After the round Paul and his tag were unavailable for comment as both had departed the scene of this disaster. The Commish was beside himself at not being able to stop his downward spiral in the 40's instead of the 50's due to Paul spiriting his tag away.

Paul's doubles partner for next weekend Ras Disc had the following comments after the round:

Hawk: So what do you think?
Jesse: (Looking around stunned) Ummmm...well I guess I'll have to go through with it.
H: That's very brave of you.
J: (Wipeing away a tear) Yeah...I've got to go.

Kelly was overjoyed at pulling out her narrow edging of Paul:

H: Your're glowing.
K: I'm pregnant you moron, we all glow when pregnant.
H: I see.
K: I'm calling Paul out to come and try to defeat me tomorrow at the monthly. I'm confident I can truly humiliate him down there.
H: As opposed to what just happened here?
K: Listen I'm going to be seven months pregnant here soon. How much longer can I keep spanking him while knocked up?
H: Have you considered playing him while in labor?
K: Yes.
H: Thank you for your time Champ.
K: Have you checked out my expanding rack?
H: Of course not...you're a married woman.

The Professor was appropriately grateful for the promised...
We'll Tour stop at Patapsco on Saturday for a round, and I'll bring the dyed Champion Aviars off the shelf to show Sharky how to putt with them.

Rich and I met at Patapsco this morning to practice the red tees doubles format. Since it was just he and I practice shots abounded! :DThe first six holes were best score, which didn't really apply in our case. We end up taking my circle four to his four on #1 and we follow that up with a five on #2. :o After that I invoked the no advice rule, and we proceeded for there. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif We deuced #3. :) Holes 7-12 were alternate shot and we deuced #7 with Rich's drive and my putt. This was sort of the theme of the day where Rich drove better, and I putted better. We follow the deuce up with a horrific 5 on #8. :oWe end the front nine at 30. :(

On the back the putzing around continued. On holes 13-18 we played modified alternate shot. On #15 Rich's white Stingray disappeared, and on #16 we take another five. :oWe complete the back in 33 for a 63 total. :o:(.

<font color="blue"> A Practice Round Told In Sherwood Style </font>

I played the metals at Druid today starting a little after 1200. There were other people there, but they are inconsequential. On #1 I parked the Ch. Spider 8' below the basket for an opening deuce! :) I three 2-4, including the always difficult #3 with a crushing 333' drive. :cool:On #5 I land the Ch. TeeBird 7' to the right of the basket for my second deuce. :DOn #8 I KC Aviar down to within 10' of the basket for my third deuce on the front. :D On #9 I power my drive over the road near #10's metal tee, but still manage the trey. 24 through nine holes.

On #10 I flip the Pro TeeBird over into what used to be bad rough to the right of the path. Annoyed I practice drive the Ch. Leopard to within 4' of the basket. Meanwhile; back to the shot that counts, I fail to approach successfully from the TeeBird spot with the dyed Ch. Aviar, so I leave myself a 25' putt for the three...which I make! A bunch of threes on the back until I doink a 10'er on #14 for a missed two. :( Angered :mad:by this I park #15 with the Ch. TeeBird for deuce, then deuce #16 after driving with the CE Spider, and deuce #17 after another sweet drive with the Ch. TeeBird. :D Another 24 on the back for a 48 total.

Temps were in the middle 60's with a 5-8 mph breeze blowing. Mr. Druid @ 3:45 now has a goal for Thursday. ;)

wednesday pine grove glow recap

WHAT A BLAST!!!

eight people showed up at 6 o'clock then no spin and troddy arrived 6:30ish. this was my first glow experience and certainly won't be my last. these thill bobber lights are so bright, it's almost easier to see your disc playing glow than during regular daytime play. the trees and baskets are another thing, but not seeing the trees might have actually helped my game because i didn't seem to hit any either.

we split up pro/am as best we could but there were more pros than ams so dean and marc c paired up and smoked it with a -3. team paul/edwards shot +1 along with team waynez/justinp. team jimb/darrenb shot around +3 (i think) while the late comers i recall were at least -3.

one thing is for certain--- playing glow will absolutely positively elevate your roc game (i'm placing an order for more right now).

zero lost discs reported.

word is we'll start 6:30 next week because of traffic being such a pain. order your bobber lights now!

Why not throw drivers too?

md21954
Nov 18 2004, 11:29 AM
it's a pain the in the [*****] to "glow up" so many discs and a logical combo is a mid and a putter. scores didn't vary too much from what is typically scored at pine grove day time doubles with full bags. i think the original rule was because old glow methods didn't work as well as these lithium bobber lights and drivers went too far, and had too eratic a flight to see with the dim glow methods used before. i'm sure drivers could be safely used with these bobber lights, but there is also the safety issue. drivers are more of a liability.

i like the roc rule because i'm learning to throw the roc. i can feel the improvement in my roc game from last night alone.

Mr. Druid @ 3:45 now has a goal for Thursday. ;)

i shot a 51 yesterday. shoulda, coulda, woulda been a 49 had i not doinked and tourney rolled a 15 foot putt for deuce on seven (bogey). lot's o' room for improvement though ;) deuces were nine, ten, fourteen, and seventeen (note i missed the easy ones- one, five, thirteen, and sixteen). played with norm, TE, and SJ.

PATAPSCO DOUBLES TROUBLES RESULTS

<font color="blue">Gangloff and Moser Cruise To Win Pro  </font>

<font color="purple"> The Boyces Dance Away With Mixed :)</font>

<font color="red">Dr. Evil and HawkGammon Punktapsco The Teaminconsistent /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif </font>

20 teams of two showed up on this overcast morning for two rounds of discing action. Both the sun and some drizzle made brief appearances on an otherwise pleasant day.

The format was first round from the reds with holes 1-6 played as best individual score shot by a team member. Holes 7-12 were standard alternate shot, and holes 13-18 were modified alternate with both members driving, and then alternating off the preferred drive.

Rich and I played round one against Team Shank (Ross &amp; Drew of Seneca) in which we failed to execute the concept behind our team of me driving and Rich putting. Rich was slow to start having not warmed up due to T.D. obligations. I got us through the first third of the round until the good Dr. starting cranking drives, and I inexplicably started canning putts. We were solid enough with the exception of the five we took on #15. :oDrew earned the Disc Golf Hero seal of approval as he putted with a Spider.

After the first round, scores were:

Pro
Team Blue Shorts-47
Team Firestone-51
Asian Caucasian-52
Team Codorus-53
Team Nude-53
Team Stick-54
Team Zed-54

Mixed
Team Newlyweds-58
Girlie &amp; Nature Boy-60
Beauty &amp; The Beast-68
Uncle Lady-69
Pennsylvania Posse-72

Amateur
Team Grunt-55
The Teaminconsistent-56
Team Shank-58
Team Roll Your Own-60
Pimp &amp; Ho-62
Team Fake I.D.-63
Shrek &amp; Donkey-73
Barking Spiders-77

In round two we threw from the blue tees playing best shot for all 18 holes.

This time Rich and I were going head to head with Paul and Jesse. Our one stroke lead quickly became a three stroke lead after four holes as Rich came out smoking cranking drives. Meanwhile The Teaminconsistent was shakey with their drives. After five holes or so, Ras Disc started nailing drives, and then Paul began knocking down 25' putt after 25' putt.  11 holes into the round I turned to Rich and said, "If he would stop doing that we'd be strolling through this with a six stroke lead by now." :) Finally near the end Paul cooled off, and Jesse actually had to putt, but he was cold at that point.

Scores for round two were:

Pro
Team Blue Shorts-50 (97)
Team Firestone-50 (101)
Team Codorus-55 (108)
Asian Caucasian-56 (108)
Team Nude-56 (109)
Team Zed-57 (111)
Team Stick-59 :( (113)

Mixed
Team Newlyweds-57 (115)
Girlie &amp; Nature Boy-60 (120)
Beauty &amp; The Beast-71 (139)
Uncle Lady-71 (140)
Pennsylvania Posse-73 (145)

Amateur
Team Grunt-54 (109)
The Teaminconsistent-57 (113)
Team Roll Your Own-58 (118)
Team Shank-59 (117)
Pimp &amp; Ho-59 (121)
Team Fake I.D.-63 (126)
Barking Spiders-68 (145)
Shrek &amp; Donkey-75 (148)

Rich has some action photos from the event, but he missed the breast shots. ;)

good shootin' team grunt.

the teaminconsistent shared responsibilities the first round taking about fitty-fitty drives and putts. almost mistake free except for two bogeys and not converting a couple of deuces we should have had. 25 threes for theteaminconsistent in that dubs format ain't bad.

i caught the yanks for the first time in a while during the second round. had it not been for that, the teaminconsistent might have prevailed. i think rich carried team grunt just as much as jesse carried the teaminconsistent from the longs.

rich, shark and boyd showed up for a rousing battle for the 16 tag. on hole 1 i generously gave shark and boyd a 1 stroke lead with a sad approach and botched 25 foot putt.maybe i should warm up more? hole 2 i duece and grab back the stroke. shark offers up another stroke for free by taking a 4. hole 3 i duece again while the boyz take 3's. hole 4 we all take nice 3's. hole 5 boyd takes a 2 whilst we take 3's. 6 we all take 3's, with boyd taking the scenic route through the rough on the right. 7 i botch a weird 15 footer with a vine and stuff in the way. boyd again fights out of the rough for a 3 and shark cans the 2. 8 we all take easy 3's. hole 9 i flip my panther into the rough on the right and throw it again since i didn't want to trudge back out of the briars to my cart and take a bad 4. meanwhile shark recovers from an early tree with a sweet secong shot for an easy 3 keeping up with bill.
scores after 9:
BB - 26
shark - 27
rich - 27

boyd immediately takes an honest 7 to remove himself from the race on 10. shark sallies his drive short of the opening to the pin alley so i decide to try the over the top route. i land short in the briars but recover for the 4 with 2 hammers and a putt. shark takes a safe 4. shark takes a 3 on 11, and i take a tough 4. 12 i hot metal on my second shot but it bounces back 15-20 feet and i miss the 3 putt. everyone else takes 4's. 13 shark turns his champ stingray over early and lodges in the cedar. he fails to execute the approach/putt and takes a circle 5. 14 we both take 3's? 15 i try the layup and ny aviar sails into the creek. shark plays it safe , then executes the approach putt. things are close again! 16 shark runs the pin but hits the big tree and rolls behind it. my nice drive nicks a tree and leaves me 50 feet out. boyd slides thru on the left for the easy 3 look. i walk up and can the putt and shark inexplicably doinks the makeable but tricky 20 footer giving me a 2 stroke swing. 17 we both duece. 18 i accede to sharks calls of long even though i hold the pad just to give an honorable opponnent a slim chance. we both drive through to the gap between a and b pins. shark tries the right side hole and catches a tree. i sling my starfire forehanded right to the pin to seal the win.

final scores:
rich - 56
shark - 58
boyd had a tough back and finished with a hard luck 63

two fours, one five (hole seven-- hit a tree, hit a metal post, hit the out house :o), one deuce.

<font color="blue"> PAUL DROPS BALL ON WRITE UP; COSTS PARTICIPANTS TOUR POINTS </font>

<font color="red">Your Disc Golf Hero Attempts To Provide Information </font>

<font color="green">field pounds pine grove marc and his six tag </font>

Five of us played a windy chilly round at Druid on Thanksgiving morn. In attendence was Paul, Sharky, Glen, Marc Crist & myself. Tee time was fluid between 1030-1100, and I arrived at about 1040, but the boys had already rolled as everyone had places to go. As I arrived the foursome was teeing off from #3's metals.

Leaping from the truck and eschewing any warm-up I proceeded directly to #1 metal and after two quick torso twists I teed off with the Proline Spider. (This could turn into a Sherwood summary :o) I deuce #1 and on #2 I drive the DX Spider for another deuce. :cool:I three #'s 3 & 4 and hit metal on #5 for another three before catching up to the group. On #6 I Spider down the hill for another deuce while someone else deuces but I can't remember who! There was a deuce on #'s 7 & 8, but I foolishly left the cards in Pauls hands :( figuring he should do the write up as he was with the group the whole time, so I can't remember exactly who did what. It was also at this point that the wind start gusting at 20+ mph. I recall deucing #9.

Scores after nine were:
Glen-?
Hawk-25
Shark-?
Paul-?
Marc-?

On the back nine things were more of the same. Marc was having a difficult time putting. This man never saw a putt he wasn't willing to gun at. Fortunately his misses hit chains avoiding potentially horrific comebackers. I deuced #'s 13, 14 & 17 and took a four on #12.

Final scores (to the best of my recollection) were:
Glen-49
Hawk-51 (I think Shark wrote down a 50, but this summary leads me to believe it was a 51)
Shark-53
Paul-57
Marc C.-58 :o

It was just myself and the good doctor out at a mucky & very windy Rock this noon. Rich elected to play with a 177 Z Wasp & 174 JK Aviar-X. I went with a 175 DX Spider & 175 DX Aviar Putter.

We both had decent drives on #1 and took threes. On #2 Rich went left into the trees and I thought opportunity was knocking, but he flicked out and made his medium putt. Rich continued his early travails taking a 4 :oon #3 after driving twice as close as I did. I lost my one stroke lead on #6 where I take a four. :( Rich takes a one stroke lead on #8 where my putting which was good lets me down for the first time as I miss a 15'er. Rich gives me the stroke right back on #9 when his drive with the X kicks left at the top of the hill.

We finish the front nine tied at 30. :)

We remained tied until we got to #12. I slip on the short teepad (which I helped build and said at the time was too short!) and stop and regroup. Rattled by my near injury I promptly Paul my drive into the right side woods. Rich meanwhile motors up the fairway. I am laying three just 20' ahead of Rich's drive. Looking at a five, I brick my second 15'er :oof the day giving Evil a two stroke lead (6-4). :mad:I then go on to lose one stroke over each of the next two holes (4-3) letting Rich ease out to the winning four stroke margin.

Final scores were:
Rich-60

Here is what I will do for you (assuming you are for real and not just pulling my leg, a big assumption but who knows) If you pony up the $5 cost of the tag (as the other two did) I will issue you tag 90 and you can play!!! Dear Commish,

I appreciate your kind and generous offer. My Sunday plans will be firmed up Saturday afternoon. I'll have to procure an appropriate toy! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I actually don't need the tag after Sunday if you are letting me play sans it, but I will gladly contribute the $5 to either your cause or the Snots. Whichever you prefer. I am undertaking this mission so as to prevent young Paul from possibly winning a trophy in the intermediate field, as he did last year after losing to Mr. Lydick by six strokes due to Mr. Lydick's non tag status. I suspect a nation of discers will support me in this endeavour, and I would also might like to take the opportunity to audition for the Advanced Masters crowd the beating they will endure next year if I deign to grace them with my presence.

10,000 views and 1,600 posts ago our fathers brought forth on this bored, a new thread, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all disc golfers are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great amateur tour, testing whether that thread, or any thread so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great thread of that tour. We have come to dedicate a portion of that thread, as a memorial for all those that have posted before us. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this thread. The brave men, touring and retired, who posted here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the touring, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who posted here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored posters we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these posters shall not have posted in vain -- that this tour, under the PDGA, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that disc golf of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the bored.

<font color="green">DUB EDGES YOUR DISC GOLF HERO AT ROCKBURN TOYS FOR SNOTS TUNE-UP TOUR STOP </font>

<font color="blue"> Parker George Endures Potential 2005 Advanced Masters Preview </font>

Trolling for a little action today the World Champ pm'ed me looking for a game. The Evil Empire sent along their best man to try and intimidate me before tomorrows big hoedown, and he barely escaped with his disc golf life. Our foursome consisted of Dub, Kelly, Charlie and YDGH. The wind was gusty on a sunny high 40's afternoon.

On #1 Dub suffers the indignity of being outdriven by me, but recovers to duece #2. :cool:Meanwhile Charlie endures a circle five :mad:after getting caught high on the left side on #2's tunnel. On #4 potential round killing disaster strikes as my second shot goes long and deep right into some brush. A poor decision leaves me up high :oon my third shot, and I stagger out with a circle seven! :( On #6 Dub puts his drive right and high for a circle four. :( When will Kelly join the circle club? Dub bounces back from his circle by deucing #7. :) Then a true debacle begins on #8 as Kelly's drive goes into the right side rough. Then her second shot goes into the right side rough. Then her third shot goes into the right side rough. Then her fourth shot goes into the right side rough. Then her fifth shot goes into the right side rough. Finally putting she misses it for a seven. :o:mad::eek:

Scores after the front nine were:
Dub-29
Hawk-32
Kelly-33
Charlie P.-37

On #10 everyone manages to botch their drives with the exception of Charlie. The three of us all hit the main tree, but I managed to kick into the fairway while Dub and Mommy go into the rough on the right. I annie up to the mouth on the alley. Dub lays up to the hill, and 38D opts to macho it over the rough to the pin like the big boys. Well she came up about 10' short. :( I guess the lesson of #8 didn't quite sink in. Kelly then endures about 20 minutes of disc recovery and manages to shoot into an opening from the fetal position before tomahawking onto the edge of the tunnel. Dub meanwhile had thrown an incredible annie shot from 1/3 up the hill that lands 10' to the right of the basket and bounces to within 2' of the pin. :cool:I approached from the corner and hit the pin to match Dub's drop in four. Kelly ends up eating a six, and exhausts herself in the effort. On #12 I drive up the alley to the top of the hill. Dub goes right into the rough. Kelly's drive rides the left side fence like a skateboard punk on a park bench. From the rough Dub throws another incredible annie that hits the top of the alley and starts to roll right! :D My second shot lands on the path behind the basket, and my putt bounces off the top, and I miss the comeback for a five. :mad:On #15 Kelly drives across the creek, and I Spider almost wet, but manage to land on some rocks inches from the water. Dub and Charlie play it safe landing near the A pin. Kelly's third shot gets wet, and she finally joins the circle club taking a circle six. :mad:At this point I begin to reel Dub in deucing #'s 16 & 17 and taking a four to his five on #18 long, but it was too little too late. :D

Final scores were:
Dub-62 (33)
Hawk-63 (31)
CPG-68 (31)
Mrs. Boyce-73 (40)

Ski won your Intermediate Tag Trophy. :D Much like you I finished second. Rich stacked the deck against me as much as possible recruiting all of the Intermediate stiffs who normally play Advanced (to feel good about themselves) to stop me. I punked all of the CF'ers, but hadn't considered the possibility of Ski. Upon seeing him arrive I told several people, "He could be trouble." ;) He had me by one at the half, and we went back and forth in the second round either tied overall or him one up, till the second hole from the end. Needing to make something happen, I gunned my drive and turned over the Spider. My 75' putt missed by 2' and I missed the comeback. Meanwhile Ski deuces the hole for the winning margin of four strokes. Congrats to SexSki. It was amusing listening to all of the Bagger chants. Why is a 879 rated player a bagger for playing Intermediate? B. Noble in true CF'er fashion got in my face about this, and I told him that since I keep outshooting him at Calvert that he might want to think about playing Intermediate himself from now on. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Today's experience encourages me to play Intermediate as long as the rating allows just to upset these people. :DAlso Sean Boy's group (who I think took it from me in double digit manner :o) had three young lovelies with them. ;) Just like the poll thread suggested. :)

Hawk, I am just trying to emulate your greatness. I figure if I surround myself with lovely ladies, maybe my Disc Golf Hero (http://www.erikestrada.com/gorgeous-honeyboy-couple.jpg) will take me on as a pupil. Not just for disc golf but for all facets of life.

I agree with you on the intermediate issue. I don't have a rating yet but I will this next update. I expect it to be sub 900. I have been thinking to myself, why am I playing advanced against 920 and higher rated players when I am far below that. As long as I have some competition in intermediate, that is what I should play. When my rating climbs above 915, I will play advanced.

I give the "Bagger" cat call to everyone, just to raz em. I would never seriously call someone a bagger that is playing fairly in their division. The guidelines state that 915 is the cap for intermediate so play intermediate. Too many people try to play way above their rating and accomplish nothing. I have been and I no longer will. I look forward to playing you in intermedite in the future. Maybe you can start teaching me all these lessons you have been talking about. I am not too proud to learn from my elders or admit that a player is better than me like some people we know *cough* md2199786435682374897234 *cough*.

Dick
Dec 06 2004, 09:54 AM
i think hawk can and probably should play the INT division next year, although MM1 is basically the same with most of the players falling in the >915 range. just the guys are older. for the ratings to work, people need to play in the correct divisions for their ratings. the bagger calls in this area are mostly in jest, i think the only person who truly doesn't get it is bobby noble. though i think pete may feel the same way.
i think playing i divisions over your head many times will hurt your development rather than help it due to the fact you tend to not be competitive. you end up trying shots you have no business trying just because someone else uses it well. in the end you lose confidence, and as we all know confidence is a big part of doing well because playing good golf is 50% mental. even pro sports teams tend to bring their rookies along slowly and allow them to gain confidence rather than throwing them to the wolves.

i think though that midway through the year he may break the 915 level and have to play adv or MM1 though if he keeps getting better at the rate he did this year!

on another subject, that was just wrong yesterday, both hawk and i played well enough to win, but were beaten by BAGGERS!!! :D

hawkgammon

You Sir have no room to complain. You simply dealt with who showed up wanting to play your division of choice. You didn't see me anywhere soliciting players...Come to Paint Branch and defeat Dr. Evil for me! :D I feel that I held my own, and beat the stiffs the local Paint Branch crowd calls their Advanced players. :DSki was on yesterday and according to our current ratings (898 vs. 879) he won by the four strokes he should have. I could have kept it more respectably closer at the end by protecting a two stroke loss, but opted to attempt to catch him...which didn't work out. :o

83 and partly cloudy, the sun don't set in the sunshine state till 1 hr later than back up in merry-land. gordon barnett disc golf course, just north of orlando, is very similar to druid if you take away druid's hills and old growth and add water and palms. come to think of it, the similarities lie in the distances, amt of obstacles, and the urban setting. there are apparently 36 holes, but we only had time to play the original eighteen. there was a true island hole on the other eighteen. it even had a bridge to go out to the hole. i'm glad we didn't get to it, cause even decent shots could tourney roll as the green sloped to the water in every direction.

don't let my scores deceive you, i was on fire. my drives were actually consistantly straight, but my putting was off. my co-worker (victor) steadily improved as we played on. this was his third time out on a course aside from practicing with some discs i gave him last year. another month of practice and he'll beat girlie

scores after nine

paul 24
victor 44

final

paul 27 (51) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
victor 46 (90)

i hightly reccommend this course to anyone in the orlando area. in addition to the palms and water, there is even a very nice pro-shop run by a cheery bob lewis (?)-- think of the caddyshack in the movie caddyshack and you aren't too far off. though a sign was posted banning alchohol from the park, my cohort and i downed one or six buds without hassle.

after the round, we went to the orlando hooters. wow   :D. victor's taste for young ladies was satisfied with our waitress (samantha) who resembled a nubile twelve year old nymph with breast implants . i, however, was partial to the eye candy helping nearby tables. i resisted temptation to send our waitress back for another waitress. wing count-20, picther count-2.

on to the congo river putt putt in kissimmee. i had two hole in ones versus victor's one, but luck was in his favor and he edged me by two strokes. victor couldn't resist the temptation of the blue water, drank some, and was last seen trying to hump the fake gorrilla on hole five.

we're contemplating skipping the conference tomorrow to go play barnett again. more details later, i need to go back to sunset sam's for another rita.
