I'm going out on a limb here and predicting that Ivan the Terrible is going to avoid the Brandywine area of DE aka Wilmington.

I propose a MD AM Tour Stop at the Brandywindjammer this Saturday and Sunday! :D

Come on folks, you KNOW that the Delaware Disc Golfers put on great events from fab players packs to a course in tip-top shape and a smoothly run event. The player's party at scrimmiges is always a blast too!

So... while you're anxiously awaiting the posting of the new ratings (look out folks - I'm gonna be a propogator REALLY SOON) - let's go play some WIND golf! :D

Sissy boy!

I've got a SBER thing with Christine on Saturday, so I'm out, plus the potential downpour. I'm preliminarily suggesting Seneca Sunrise Sunday!from the tips. Well okay maybe not sunrise, but early enough to possibly get back for football. Early enough to at least be in vehicles driving and listening to games. Final details TBA.

Sep 16 2004, 08:51 AM
word. but it's all the more exciting when they do :D you see, when boller throws a long interception, it's not so bad. it's kinda like a punt that puts the defense closer to the end zone to score a TD.

dragon boat races cancelled? it'd actually be fun to watch in this weather :D

My understanding from the website is that the races are going on now. Christine just rolled out. I'm on my way in about 30 minutes.

What time are you boys playing tomorrow morning in case I pull the plug on Seneca? I'm concerned about driving over there and the place being closed due to flooding. I've been burned by that before. :(

I emailed you Bluemont info.

<font color="blue"> BAGGER RICK WINS MID-ATLANTIC TUNE UP TOUR STOP AT SENECA </font>

<font color="green"> Hawk And Shark Tie For Second :( </font>

<font color="purple"> wednesday night doubles sean b. schooled by the wreck king /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif </font>

Five players made the unusually early 1000 kick-off so everyone could make kick-off. Attendees included yours truly, the Professor, Rick Honn, Sean B. and JG. As announced earlier we played the long tees, the color of which I'm not sure. There were two crews on the course laboring away to make things spiffy for next weekend.

Deuces were few and far between. It was mostly a collection of threes and fours with an occasional five or six thrown in for good measure.

Our first interesting moment came on #5 when Sean backhanded a tree with a resounding smack. He seemed fine, but it sounded awful. Real disaster struck on #7 when JG put his TeeBird high in a cedar :(, and Sean carded the first six of the day. :oScores at the turn were:

JG-29
Rick-31
Hawk-32
Shark-33
Sean-38*

On #10 Rick finally breaks through with the first deuce. I end up two inches above two meters (courtesy of the Professors measuring tape) off the tee, and then attempt to match Sean's effort on #5 by smashing the back of my hand into a tree on my follow through manfully drawing blood. Circle five. :mad:On #11 I'm the only one not to go OB as Rick and Sean take circle fours :(, and Shark & JG have matching circle fives. :mad:I then join the deuce club parking #13 much to the entertainment of my playing partners. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif #15 became a cluster of fives with JG getting the lone four, and then departing to catch the 'skins games. Curiously Rick and JG were tied at 52 at this point of the match. Coincidence? You decide. ;) On #16 Shark joins the deuce club by driving within 8' of the basket. On #18 I putt for my three (not knowing it would have edged me ahead of Shark) calling money only to watch the disc somehow kick out of the right side of the chains. :o

Final scores were:
Bagger-63
Hawk-65
Shark-65
Sean B.-76*
JG-999

*Sean misadded his front nine putting a 36 when he shot a 38, so his 38+36=74 plus the two stroke penalty. :(

There will be another Seneca Tour stop this week (probably on Wednesday) during the day for all you un/underemployed slackers. :D

Boys boys! I don't think Paul297365973509 was doing anything malicious there. We had agreed that results needed to be posted here the next day for me to consider counting them for card status. Tour stop announcements should be posted before midnight the day before so everyone can scope it out first thing in the morning and make plans if interested in attending. Current card earners are:

myself
Evil
Shark
Paul
Boyd
Ski
Glen
Service
Felty
Three people tied for 10th.

Based on normal attendence at stops I attend, time remaining in the season etc. I would guess that everyone from Glen up is safe. It's unlikely we'll see any substantial movement between now and the end of the year.

Cards have the front design completed, and I'm working on the back which will make these the most coveted and naturally controversial cards in the land. ;) No two are exactly alike! :)

also , my penalty for playing form the wrong lie happened after i threw a blind shot on hole 4 from briar land. glan said it was parked and i would be very happy with it... i walk up to the closest disc(about 7 feet) which happens to be a white kc pro aviar and putt it in. unfortunately it look like the JK PRO aviar i threw and i had sunk glen's putt! glen goes up to the other disc(about 10 feet past) and says, hey this isn't my disc. i look at the disc in my hand and YOIKS!! so i give glen his disc and walk over and putt down my correct lie. the penalty mighyt have made a difference if either i had played better to challenge Glen(he said he wasn't counting it but it didn't matter) or boyd played better and challenged me.

Whoa there cowboy, let's move it to the rules thread, sounds like you need another stroke :o

hawkgammon
Sep 21 2004, 11:32 AM
Okay just to make it official...

For a round(s) to qualify as a Tour Stop, you need the following:

1. Two or more card carrying members. (Easy to do this year since everyone in the state has a card. More difficult next year with only 10(ish) going out. I say ish as there could be a tie, and so forth.

2. You have to post your intentions here by midnight the day before your announced tee time giving everyone ample time to see it, and participate if so inclined.

3. You must then provide a write up (of varying quality) here no later than midnight the day after the Tour stop has occurred to qualify.

4. As always the Big Mac Daddy has final say. This offer not valid for employees of the Maryland Amateur Tour and their relatives.

<font color="green"> SHARK AND BRADY TIE IN REGULATION AT SENECA TUNE-UP TOUR STOP </font>

<font color="blue"> The Professor Wins Round One In Four Hour Playoff During Round Two </font>

A suprising turn out of five was on hand this morning for the Tour action. Joining myself and Player X. was the aforementioned Shark and Brady, and suprise guest star Jeff Pop. We agreed on the longs and headed off.

Things were kind of up and down again like last time with a scattering of threes, fours and fives. Things got interesting on #4 when Mr. Forehand DX Eagle Roller deuced it. :cool:We also had another one of those Seneca Triangle moments when Player X. flicked his Banshee off the tee, and as we watched it curl around a cedar, it never reappeared.  Five of us looked up, down all around and were unsuccessful in locating it. It simply vanished like Rich's drive on #10 did the last time he was out there with us. Circle five for the X. Player X. ate another circle five on #8 when his drive found the big cedar in the middle of the fairway. :( Scores after nine were:

Brady-30
Hawk-30
Shark-33
Jeff-35
Player X.-37 :o

Things were about to go horribly awry for me on the back nine. :) Shark comes out swinging on #10 with a deuce. :cool:In the reverse of what happened at last Sundays Tour stop, I was the only one to go OB on #11 this time, as the rest of the group played it more successfully. Circle five for moi. :( On #12 three of us take fours which really shouldn't happen, and then the next time we went up a hill (#15) Shark threes it while Brady and Player X. take fours, I take a five :( and Jeff takes the six. :mad:Shark smells blood and starts circling his chums. I follow that five up with another on #16 and stagger in from there. Everyone else was threeing and fouring.

Back nine scores were:

Shark-27
Brady-30
Player X.-32
Jeff-33
Hawk-35 :o

Final tally showed:
Brady-60
Shark-60
Hawk-65
Jeff-68
Player X.-69

Thanks go to Mark for supplying everyone with fruit and nut bars to get us through the back nine. :)

At this point Player X. and I were going to go around again from the shorts, tags were shuffled, and players milled around, and then everyone decided to saddle up again! :D

hawkgammon
Sep 22 2004, 11:04 PM
<font color="purple">BRADY GETS REVENGE FROM THE SHORT TEES </font>

<font color="red"> :cool:Player X. Ties Shark For Second :o </font>

Realizing that we hadn't played off the tie from the previous round to determine a winner, I make the excutive call and inform Shark and Brady that the first hole of this round is the play-off for the win. Both players perk up at the prospect of winning. :) Everyone threes the first two holes. Everyone except me threes #3 as I take a four. On #4, Shark makes his move. He drives downhill pin low () about 30' to the left of the basket. Brady's drive was short and still up hill. Brady elects to sissy out and lays up, and the Professor calmly steps up and drills the putt for the deuce :cool:with his faded red Champion Aviar, for the first round win, and early lead in round two. On #5 I am 10' out and miss yet another deuce putt, (as I did on #8 in round one from the longs ) as my putting today was horrific. The rest of the front nine was mostly a collection of threes for everyone until we got to #9. Owning the box Mark cranks his drive into the cedar on the right of the fairway hole. Much giggling ensues. Player X. steps up and cranks his drive right down the alley, and Jeff and Brady roll to differing degrees of success. I step up and proceed to imitate the Professor's drive, though to be fair my disc was not as high up in the tree. :DCircle fives for both of us. :(

Scores on the front were:
Shark-28
Brady-28
Player X.-28
Jeff-29
Hawk-31

At this point I am slightly disinterested due to hunger though Mark did supply all intersted parties with another nutritional bar prior to the round.

On #11 Shark plays my role from round one as the lone player to go OB. Player X. took the interesting route through the woods on the hill to land even with the basket, and I take a similar route, but 20' shorter. Jeff drives (I missed it as I was adding up the front nine scores) and parks it for his deuce of the day! :cool:Mark takes the circle four. :( Then it's a deuce frenzy. Player X. and I both get #12, and Mark and Brady both deuce #13. On #15 Mark and Player X. both find the newly restrung jail and take circle fours. :mad:Bringing it home Player X. deuces #18.

Scores on the back nine were:
Brady-27
Hawk-27
Mark-28
Player X.-28
Jeff-32

Final damage was:
Brady-55
PlayerX.-56
Mark-56
Hawk-58
Jeff-61

Though these were run as two separate Tour stops, for you numbers geeks out there, the combined action was:

Brady-115
Shark-116
Hawk-123
Player X.-125
Jeff-129

Hawk incredible escape shot by you on whatever hole that was where you were faced with a near impossible route to the basket and you threw a sky annie roller just over the last cedar tree, unreal. It probably got you two strokes on me as I tried a similar shot right after you without success

I know to never try the shot you saw the big boys throw but surely I can execute any shot that hawk can heave, what gives

Also lefty's comment on the light air in WVA was a classic :D

Well it would naturally be all about me. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

DJ and Gump tied the first round with 47's from the short to A pins.

DJ holds a one stroke lead going into round three after shooting long to A. The lead group in the second round was DJ, Gump, Paul W. and Deebo. I was second card with Matt C. and Dan ?.

I shot 50-59.

Paul ended up the day shooting 56-64.

Intermission highlight was Lindsay driving out to lunch and shouting an unprintable at Paul questioning his manhood for refusing to give her strokes in their bet. :D

Lindsay shot a 62 in the second round which for her was a repeat of short to A.

Rumor had it that someone got a roller ace, but I heard no official word on that.

Other observations:

I believe Gump came in second.

I believe I finished sixth.

Deebo folds in rounds three & four.

Dr. Evil might have won the old man's division.

Merhi continues to be my second favorite TD. Payout was obscene as always. Post tournament swapping of plastic among the winners looked like a Turkish bazar. As if I didn't already have a lifetime supply of Spiders! :D

Halftime today saw Carny Gangloff running the "Land In The Circle Around 18B From The Parking Lot" contest. The prize this year was a rather unique golf cart. Evil actually aced during qualifying, but choked in the finals. I believe Ross won it with a throw within 4' of the basket edging out Girlie!

Also at halftime a Ring Of Fire was held and won by Justin P.

There was a roller ace yesterday on #14 by a gentleman who hadn't put in for the ace pot. John gave him a proto Valk for it today anyways.

Everyone thinks Paul is a sissy for not coming back today.

Best visual of the day was DJ holding the boxed basket over his head. Rich has a picture of this. Yes Deej could sleep in the box. :D

I unveiled a few new throws today including a tomahawk, flick forehand roller, and my first every PDGA sanctioned backhand roller that was moderately successful. The Professor would have been beside himself. :)

Rich shot what might have been the hot round in round three with a 60 from Long to B, which was the hardest layout in my opinion.

Other than a horrific double circle six on #11 in round four, (short to C) I was flirting with a 57. The drive hit the big tree on the right right off the tee and kicked OB 15' down the fairway. Penalty. :( Throw number two is on the edge of the woods near the manhole. Throw number three hyzers OB 5' from the basket. :mad:Penalty. Made putt on fourth throw. JG gave me a very encouraging pep talk after that hole, which is generally unprintable here. But thanks JG! ;)

Rich was limping so badly after the tourney, I'll be suprised if he makes the Ho Down next weekend.

Next year we'll have to give this the Druid Hill Open marketing treatment to fill this sucker.

<font color="blue">IRONMAN GUMP WINS PATAPSCO TOUR STOP COMPLETING THREE ROUNDS TODAY!</font>

<font color="green">Hawk And Paul Tie For Second, Or DFL :D </font>

After finally being freed by Safelite Autoglass Repair (Safelite...quality windshield repairs when you have 16 hours to invest over several days while arranging and awaiting their arrival! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) I scrambled out to meet Paul and we picked up Gump who had just completed two narrow losses to H to the G. Gump was sporting a tee-shirt with the words League Champs on the back, and a graphic of three men. Two of the men appeared to be engaged in an act of affection generally frowned upon by local authorities. ;) Paul called red tees so after a brief warm up by your Disc Golf Hero which included complaints about hunger which Paul graciously helped rectify with a nutri-bar, we moseyed off.

Paul takes an early lead by threeing #1 while Gump opts to take the scenic route on the other side of the road, and I opt to break the hole down into four segments of dimishing sizes. On #3 Gump records the first deuce of the day , and he quickly follows that up by deucing #5. I also deuced #5. :) On #8 I parked the Spider two feet from the basket for another deuce :D, and Gump got his third on the front nine by drilling #9. :) The wheels came of for me on #9 as I took a five on what was one of many hit baskets on putts. While all this was going on, Paul was quietly threeing and fouring his way around the course.

Scores after nine were:
Gump-25
Paul-29
Hawk-30

On the back nine my disaster on #9 carried over as I managed a circle five :( on #10 after doing a little bumper tree action and ploping right down in the road; then coupling that with another hit basket four putt. :mad:On #11 Paul takes his first five with a couple of less than stellar drives, Gump fours, and I take a three. Disaster strikes yet again for me on #13 with yet another, but thankfully last, five. Paul busts out his next five on #16 when he again ends up short left off the tee, and his second shot leaves him way short. I salvage the tie on #17 when I manage a three to Paul's four after a missed putt by Mr. Druid @ 3:45. Meanwhile Gump is playing the role of Paul on the front nine quietly threeing and fouring along.

Scores on the back nine were:
Gump-30 (55)
Hawk-32 (62)
Paul-33 (62)

Paul ponyed up a buck to Gump as the sleeveless one covered the six stroke handicap he gave Paul prior to the round.

<font color="purple">PINE GROVE PAUL DEFEATS GLEN AT PG TOUR STOP!!! </font>

<font color="brown"> Paul Graciously Declines #4 Tag. </font>

Four of us teed it up at #7 a little after noon today. Rounding out our threesome was Sabrina a.k.a. Mrs. Glen. Things get kind of jumbled here, so try and follow along.

After playing #7 we are confronted by a herd of players coming at us in the other direction. Some of them were throwing Aerobies. So we do an about face and make #13 our second hole. Being a Tour Stop, everyone always is looking to practice things, so Paul decided to whip out a roller. It promptly hooks on his finger and goes to the right, and slightly begind us. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif His second shot is perched on the OB line to the ball field. With all this misadventure he salvages a five.

On #14 we find a sleeping bag, pillow and water bottle on the ground right next to the basket. Clearly Marc C. or Jim B. had a little trouble at home last night. ;)

We're all kind of putzing along when things get interesting on #17. Paul manages to go OB to the left on both #17 and #18. Circles five and four. He is heard to mutter,

I am horrible at this. Why do I keep playing?

Ahh how many times have we all thought that...about you? :DHowever this was not the lowlight of the round. :D

Making the u-turn at #1/#18 Paul takes another five, and then things got really entertaining. Glen crushes his drive on #2 for a deuce. Meanwhile I drive OB on the right :(, and then approach OB into the baseball field . I make the awkward downhill putt for a double circle five. On #3 Paul and Glen both deuce it.

On #4 the basket is sitting in a postion on the slope of the hill, not in the usual cluster of cedars on the flat area. Glen drives along the fence line and disappears down the hill. Paul takes the conservative approach down the fairway. I decide to be daring and gun my drive over the baseball field. We're not sure if it made it, but upon walking down there, I am 10' inside the fence OB. I trudge back to the point where I went over the fence which was not all that far off the tee. Deciding that I want to see if I can do this, I again try and clear the field. I backed off a little, and didn't thow it as well, so it stalled and hyzered and was even worse than the first one. OB #2. :oNow I have to trudge all the way back to the corner and get another disc and try again. I was greeted with much laughter by my group. :D This time I simply go down the fairway and then figure the damage has been done, so I might as well go for the putt. Missed, lay-up and putt. Six throws, plus two penalty strokes for the double circle snowman! :D

Going into hole #6 Sabrina drops out. On #9 (the Horseshoe) I take a six, Paul fives, and Glen fours. By the way Glen is now sporting the very chic Pro Birdie putter. :cool:After #10 Glen bails out leaving Paul and I to finish up. We both close it out by deucing #12 :) as we both park our drives. Paul about 10' short, and me about 10' long.

Final Scores Were:
Paul-67
Hawk-71
Glen-DNF (52-16 holes. Estimated final score 59)
Sabrina-DNF (65-12 holes. Estimated final score 98)

Sabrina clearly has raw skills, and if she applied herself could become a player in the women's field in about six months. She actually outscored Paul on #'s 1 & 17. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :o

The MD am tour extended fared well at ODS. The only problem was that for such a great event only 1.5 hours away from laurel there were very few MD's present! Girle finished second in adv. women with a fairly large field. kelly finished third in pro women and apparently is pregnant! and yes, THE DR of EVIL WINS ADV MASTERS AT A SUPERTOUR!!!
since i was involved in my own battle i don't have any highlights from the others, but i will describe my own.
First round was a venue change, i went in thinking we were starting on the sunny side of the grange, and it was switched last minute to the darkside. The grange darkside is a tight and twisted woods course mostly, somewhere netween paw paw and patapsco's woods holes. it DEMANDS being able to throw straight and keep it in the fairway. I was paired with charlie parker and hvnafit. i started by throwing an aviar down the alley of the first hole and immediately picked up a stroke. i told myself i was going to play it safe all day, but we know how those promises go. about halfway through i had a good lead on my group, but i everyone started to get into troubles off the beaten path. hvnafit, started having a fit around our 6th hole, and everyones play kind of went south. i was lucky to escape with a 64. jeff from the other group shoots a 63 to take the early lead. off to loriella.
at loriella i play much better. loriella is a nice combination of woods and open holes, and although the weather threatened and sprinkled a few times, the sprinkles seemed to happen when we were in the woods. charlie joined jeff and i and had a really bad round. i think his whining and throwing his disc like a madman distracted jeff more than i. i kept it together fairly well to shoot a respectable 63 from the longs. jeff shot a 72 and i think alot of it was due to charlie's rantings.
day 2 broke and we were at hawk hollow. i have a nice 8 stroke lead and am thinking i have this thing in the bag. hawk hollow is a really nice course, but is very difficult. it demand power on some holes and control on all of them. it was a bit breezy and cool and tough to do either. first 2-3 holes i go 3-2-3 and pick up 2 more strokes on jeff. hvnafit starts having a fit, throwing stuff and i have to tell him he can't do that. (he actually responds to this and controls himself the rest of the round and beats me!)then the wheels fall off the cart. i start hitton early trees, ob, and water piling up the stroke. on 2 holes i take a 6-5 while jeff takes a 3-3 and before long my lead is one. i pull it back together slightly to pick up 2 on him on our last 4 holes, but the very last hole i take an awful circle 5 on an easy 3 hole. luckily he takes 4 and i only give back one stroke.

final round is grange sunny side and i am nursing a 2 stroke lead. i see lindsay and tell her were just going to make the safe shots and let our opponents fold like a cheap chair! then i proceed to administer a lesson in doing that! using a roc and a putter, and the occaisional driver in the open, i have the best round i've had on the sunny side, shooting a 56. highlight was a great approach duece on number 11 long from over 80 feet. jeff shoots a 65 i think and i walk away with a 10 stroke win! then while waiting for the awards i shot my first tiki ace!
so now i have hanging at the evil hideout a nice new trophy plaque declaring me the ODS Advanced Masters CHAMPION!!!

which holes did she outscore you? did she not outdrive you on both holes 16 and 17?

To be honest she might have outscored me when I was trying to clear the baseball field. That was the only one she might have gotten me on. Yes her drives went further than mine on several occassions, but I at least hit trees. You on the other hand were the victim of several of the infamous Paul "power drives" that go off at 45+ degree angles enabling Sabrina to outgun you obstacle free.

hawkgammon

the ratings may be flawed

Rich appears to be correct on this. Consider the following in my head to head battles wiht Paul this year.

Paul wins by 7
Paul wins by 2
Hawk wins by 5
Hawk wins by 23
Hawk wins by 13
Tied
Hawk wins by 11

Average all that out, and I'm 3.3 strokes better than Paul when the pressure is on. However using the Craig formula he only gets two strokes more handicap per round. Therefore there should be a greater gap in our ratings than currently exist. :D

10-7-04 TNT RECAP

22 people came out on a perfect cusp of fall evening. we drew promptly at 5:15 and finished with very little daylight. we'll likely finish in the dark next week, but hey, what do you do?

i paired in a foursome with lil angry man jake, newbie brad (who can really huck it for a two month long playa) and mark the shark. we were OK on the front and lost steam on the back. it was all in vain anyway because team deeballs/mickley/justin p took it with a smokin' -15 which would have won or tied for the past month or two. apparently the p in justin p stood for "putting machine" and deebo has had a change of heart since 9/30. what gives? i thought we were rid of that degenerate slime  ;)

the ace pot survives another week and totals $330-something.

thought it was obvious but apparently not note: if you don't make the draw, you don't get to play. i won't just conveniently plop you into a nearby group. you also are ineligible to participate in the ace pot.

thanks everyone for coming out! see ya next week.

just announced... hot off the press...

NEW OB AT DRUID HILL!!!

as of the end of daylight savings time, the first of the three sisters ponds (next to holes 8 and 9) will be OB. if your disc lands ON the stone wall, it is in bounds, in the pond is OB. play the shot where it last crossed OB.

this move is being made to help preserve the fine landscaping the SBER has begun down there. those familiar with druid hill know it takes pretty severely errant shot to go in there (i've done it plenty). even if you could care less about the new landscaping, it still makes sense because if you went down there before the clearing started, you would likely have taken at least a stroke to get out anyway.

maybe so, but i think it's pretty obvious the pond and the pond's landscaping was inclusive in my use of "the pond". afterall, we're not too concerned about folks going into the water to be to get discs or protecting the landscaping in the water.

i'll take that point, but my use of "cusp" was perfectly fine dammit!

calvert really isn't a 'bluemont type' course, hawk. unless you mean in terms of being a small course in a park. it's not nearly as tight and doesn't demand the turnover as much. if you want to practice for bluemont, them why not got to bluemont? if not, i would say pine grove is probably closer to bluemont type.

I cannot possibly explain to you the zen like thinking behind these selections.

I do however concur that tomorrow at Calvert we shall do a two disc Tour stop from the red tees. Bring one putter and one mid-range people. No cheating, and no whining Sherwood.

We might go around a second time from the whites with the bags if we are not running too late.

For me it is the champ aviar, and the stingray or flash. I just can't decide on that but am leaning towards the stingray, you making it down md1234?

md21954
Oct 09 2004, 10:03 AM
ain't the flash (http://www.discndatonline.com/item.cfm?itemid=30131) a driver? i thought hawk said a putter and a mid-range. i don't ever use mid-ranges off the tee and i usually flick a driver for long up-shots and putters for everything else. two discs should mean any two discs.

i'm 50/50, but if you don't count a driver for me as a second disc, i'm definitly out.

<font color="red">HAWK AGAIN DEFEATS MR. CALVERT AT HOME COURSE </font>

<font color="blue">Winner Graciously Allows Elderly Opponent Chance To Redeem Self </font> /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I apologize for the late posting, but Comcast is down at home. Four of us met down at Calvert at noon yesterday to play the full bag from the reds. This was the group preference, and since Dr. Evil failed to appear we went with the consensus.

Joining the Professor and myself was Brady, and the blossoming World Champion Kelly. Regardless of what Ski may think, I believe the real men were at Calvert enjoying the show. ;)

Things got off to a rough start for Mommy as she takes a circle five on #1. :mad:I managed a deuce on #3, and Kelly got into the swing of things by deucing #5 and #6. :cool:At this point Kelly and I were having trouble focusing on the match as we are enjoying the Professors struggles putting with the putter I sold him. :DShark and I managed to both miss the mando on #6 taking circle fives and fours respectively. :( Shark did make the mando on #1 despite my prediction of doom. Shark and I deuce #8, and Brady and I deuce #9.

Scores at the turn were:
Hawk-27
Lefty-27
Shark-28
Mommy-28

Shark deuces #10 while Brady and I deuce #12. It's a deucefest! :) Shark and I deuce #'s 15 &amp; 16 and I also collect #17. :D Just to make it interesting I take a circle 5 on #18 when my second shot sails over the basket and down the hill across the creek.

Scores on the back nine were:
Hawk-26 (53)
Shark-27 (55)
Lefty-28 (55)
Kelly-29 (57)

With tears in his eyes, The Professor pleaded for a rematch. Being a kind Wreck King I granted his wish under the condition we do a limited disc round. The group decided on two discs of the players choosing. The selections were:

Hawk: 174g Pro Line Spider & 175g DX Aviar Putter
Shark: 166g Champion Stingray & 174g Champion Aviar (not the one I sold him /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif )
Lefty: 172g DX Eagle & 166g DX XD (doesn't Brady always just play with two discs )
Mommy: 156g Champion Edition :cool:Leopard & 169g DX Aviar Putter (she opted not to used the Challenger ;))

We once again set off from the red tees. Right out of the gate Shark and I deuce #1. Sherwood makes the #1 mando both times! :) Shark next deuces #3 using the world's only overstable Stingray both in the air and on the ground. His Gawler like trot-ups on the rollers are not to be missed. :DLeft, Shark and myself next deuce #5 and Shark also gets #6 as he and I both successfully navigate the double mando this time, but he to greater success. #'s 8 & 9 see the trio of myself, the Professor and the World Champ deucing both holes.

Scores after nine were:
Shark-23
Hawk-25
Lefty-26
Mommy-26

Making the turn things are quite until #12 when Brady and I collected the deuce. Shark deuces #13, and Mommy breaks through on #14. :cool:Shark and Lefty collect deuces on #15 and Mommy gets another on #16. The three guys deuce #17 to close out the days frenzy of twos.

Scores on the back nine were:
Shark-24 (47)
Lefty-24 (50)
Hawk-25 (50)
Mommy-28 (54)

Curiously everyone's scores went down using just the two discs vs. the whole bag on an the same layout.

<font color="red"> MD AM TOUR CLOSES DOWN AGAIN </font>

You may notice that Tyra has disappeared. When I logged on this afternoon I had a PM from someone named Conrad informing me of numerous complaints about the cheescake/girlie avatars and that he had unilaterally removed my link. Curiously I recall when Jeff had the swinging boobs cartoon he posted his PM asking him to remove it. I guess Conrad is more a man of action than Jeff's penpal. Since I failed to receive the same courtesy as Jeff, I bid you all a fond farewell. The Maryland Am Tour now goes completely underground. It will not resurrect on any board anywhere. We will cross paths when we see each other on the courses. I will issue 2005 cards based on participation up to this point. After that, who knows. Ciao.

that may be, but i can definitely see him having a problem with not being even asked to remove it, or for that matter warned. what kind of a tool would just delete it without asking the user to remove it first? is that the type of bombastic geek we need as a bored admin? we'll likely get the whole "it's a volunteer thing, take it easy" at some point. screw that. volunteer somewhere else or apologize and admit your error.

<font color="red">HAWK DEFEATS PAUL IN 27 HOLE BLUEMONT TUNE-UP AT GOUCHER </font>

<font color="blue">Glen And Tom Edwards Join Stop After First Nine </font>

<font color="purple">first tour stop ace recorded! </font>

At high noon today Paul and I set off mano y mano for two rounds of Goucher. It was a typical Goucher nine with the threes piling up that left each of us feeling unsatisfied. Things got interesting on #4 when we both went long up the hill. Paul cleared the road and saved his three, but I ended up in the road for the circle four. :( On #7 Paul finds the road in a new way. He yanks his drive across the road safely onto the grass. His second shot hits a pole coming back across the street to the basket and plops into the road for a circle five. :mad:Paul (who today showed that while inconsistent from 20' is deadly from outside of 75' :D) nails a long putt on #9 for the first deuce of the day.

Scores after nine were:
Hawk-29
Paul-30

At this point we are joined by Gloin and Tom who had just completed an invigorating round at Pine Grove. :) On #2 Tom throws his standard chicken wing drive, and it hits the top of the basket, bounces up into the chains for the <font color="red"> ACE!!!:cool::cool: </font> Glen's drive hit the base of the tree to the left of the basket, and rolls into the pin. :cool:Another great shot, but forgotten in Tom's glory. I manage to get my first deuce of the day on #4 :) while Glen takes the circle four route as I did the first time around by landing in the road. :( Moving onto hole 6 Glen joins the club of <font color="blue"> Manly Men Who Have Thrown Drivers Onto The Utility Buildings Roof </font> :mad:Circle four. Now Tom's drive hit the building right next to the stairs going down into the pit and scooted down into the pit. I was under the impression that this was OB, but not everyone agreed. Tom ended up taking a straight four off that, and we're looking to find out from Goucher Paul what the ruling is on that one. Tom finishes his first nine by deucing #'s 8 & 9. :D

Scores at this point are:
Tom-24
Hawk-26 (55)
Glen-28
Paul-28 (58)

Tom and Glen were going around one more time, and Paul was wanting to, and it's Goucher...it takes 40 minutes with four people, so why not? :D

I managed to get rolling right off at #1 by parking the red ProLine Spider two feet from the basket. :cool:Deuce! Then I drive the red Champion Spider into the corral on #3 for another deuce. :D Glen then announces he has lost the will to play as I am defeating him. :DHowever he regains the spirit after deucing #5. Then things went horribly awry for me and to a lesser degree for Tom. On #6 Tom's second shot goes up the hill past the basket, and down the other side. He's left with a blind third shot to the basket. He throws his putter upside down and slides to within 4' :cool:to save his four. My second shot ended up 20' to the left of the basket and down the hill. I had been bouncing several putts off metal all day, so naturally I did the same here :o, and we all watched gleefully as my putter rolled back past me and down the hill twice as far as from where I had putted from. Lay-up and in for a five. :(

Scores for this nine were:
Glen-26 (54)
Tom-28 (52)
Hawk-28 (54) <font color="red">(83) </font>
Paul-28 (56) <font color="blue"> (86) </font>

One final note. We found a student ID belonging to Alexandra E. An exotic looking beauty with dark hair and eyes. I would put her in the naughty librarian category. We're working to return her ID in exchange for some swimwear photos. ;)

Shark Tourstop results:

Patapsco is playing great, myself, lefty, and the geezer had a nice little round from the tips. We started on the back and I struggeled some with the putting but was only down 3 at the break to the consistent TT.

Scores after holes 10-18 : Shark 34, TT 31, Lefty 39.

On the front I picked up two on TT on hole 1 and the race was on. TT and I both birded 3 and lefty just missed his makeable bird op. On hole 4 TT posted an impressive 3 with the pin in the back position, I had a roady circle 5. On hole 9 I got the three, TT stumbled in with a nickel to allow me to catch him, but not his tag.
Holes 1 -9: Shark 33, TT 36, Lefty 39
Final: Shark 67, TT 67, Lefty 78.

Lefty vowed to take a liquid lunch to ease the pain! (Kidding)

Patapsco is still a great course and the playability is excellent. A big thanks to whoever (Justin?) is mowing the fairways!

nice one, wisea$s.

though sunset is listed for 6:18, you ought to know full well that you can see well enough to play up till 6:40. with fewer people being able to make it out, playing from the metals, a lot of baskets in short, and spacing out the teams, we move quick and usually can finish in 1.5 hrs. the last few TNT's usually finish just as it is getting dark. playoffs might be tough, but fewer teams makes that less likely.

The Rich & Hawk Roadshow rolled into Codorus today with differing results. The good doctor was hot winning Advanced Masters in a walkover , and he would have won Advanced by three strokes over Paul W. if he wasn't such a quasi geriatric sissy and playing Masters . Meanwhile I had my third bad outing in Hanover losing my driver :( and doinking a bakers dozen worth of putts off :mad:the ironically named Discatchers. I did get to play the second round with Service who started the round one stroke behind me, and finished one stroke ahead of me...the bastard. :p Oh well, back to intermediate! :D

In other news the gnome opted to play Open, and staggered in DFL. His arch nemesis the Gumpster finished I believe fourth in open :) and took the ca$h meaning he's no longer one of us. :D

Sherwood finished DFL in the Grandfather's division, one stroke behind TT.

Ms. Lindsay won the Advanced babe category over Rhonda.

glen, hawk and paul tee'd off about 11am on a soggy druid hill course from the metal tees. paul deuced as the others took threes. the next deuce for anyone didn't come until we all deuced hole nine.

scores after nine:
paul 25
glen 26
hawk 29

paul held the tee from hole one until hole eleven where glen deuced on a 60+ footer. that was the spark of glen's afterburners as he owned the back nine.

back nine scores

glen 22
paul 27
hawk 30

Well it was nice to at least be able to watch the game for once! :) I'm thinking of organizing future Tour stops into one day affairs each weekend instead of trying to plan one each Saturday and Sunday. During football season I think Saturdays would be preferrable, and we'd play two rounds so there's no net loss of disc action to you the Tour participant!

sounds like a tad too much "organization" for the tour if you ask me ;)

There's no obligation to stay for both rounds, or to even show. I know I'm not going to try and cram a round in each weekend day anymore.

you sound bitter. remember hawk, it was only a tour stop /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Vs. Doughboy:

Hawk: 5-0-1 Head to Head Tourney Record Since March.
Hawk: 2 Pdga Wins vs. 0.
Hawk: 879 vs. 861.

Your inability to learn to shut your mouth is astounding. When will you stop making a buffoon of yourself? Ah you can't! :D

Hey Paul,

Did Hawk tell you that I beat him during the second round of the Codorus tourney this past Saturday? Sure he took the overall, but come on! I even challenged him prior to the start of the second round - telling him I was going to whoop him! :D

no wonder he was so cranky sunday morning ;)

it's funny how aggressive his rhetoric becomes coming off a loss (see post detailing my seven stroke win on sunday). he doesn't take getting beat very well. he usually addresses it with sorry excuses, accusations of pencil whipping, and other "remember whens". i'm sure he'll follow this post up with something to distract from our last meeting.

:D

You do have a small point there, but I think his ability to pay up after a loss instead of revert to the "check is in the mail" routine does make up for a good bit of it. :D :o/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D:cool:

sounds like fun!

unfortunately, i have family coming for an early dinner on saturday and will be unable to make it. normally, i would shirk the housecleaning and cooking duties to the GF and go disc golfing, but this is my family and that would be highly innapropriate.

i might be in for friday afternoon at the rock! i may also be there for the roller war. it should really insure some fun. i would suggest calvert rather than druid, as druid is tough to throw a roller, especially from every hole.think roller on hole 6. not that i haven't tried it!

your call though. let the hilarity begin! :D

Oct 25 2004, 03:29 PM

Excellent point about Druid and rolling though. Okay Sherwood we're coming down to Calvert instead.

there's nothing hilarious about rollers only at calvert! a roller on six at the hill would be fun!

Oct 25 2004, 03:33 PM
Obviously you haven't seen me try to roll before. Remember it's about practicing not conducting a demolition derby.

md21954
Oct 25 2004, 03:34 PM
also, what happens if you try a roller, but it doesn't roll?

this has happened to me on 18A at druid while trying to learn a roller. back when i had my prized rolling leopard, i would throw a huge sky roller that would land on the left of the tree in front of the short pin and roll there every time. then i lost the roller, and have tried it again and again to no avail, but the shot wouldn't work out all that bad. it'd be a big annie that wound up between the big pine and and 18C more often than not.

a stroke penalty and re-throw if your disc doesn't roll?

also, what happens if you try a roller, but it doesn't roll?

I have actually considered that, and if the roller fails, then I'm thinking it's up to the group to decide if it was a legitimate try that went awry, or a disguised air shot. Either way I think it's simply a matter of write up abuse at that point. Remember nothing is actually at stake here.

do tournament rolls count?

I've only ever rolled in one tourney a couple of times. This years Mid-Atlantic. I've probably only rolled a dozen times or so at Tour stops. Hence the interest in practicing.

good point. i just talked to BB and he said it shouldn't be an issue. FYI... there are hay rides over the weekend though so it's probably in your best interest to avoid the rock saturday and sunday.
