Can we keep the Maryland Am Tour thread, yes I know I know great one you are now a cashing pro congratthehecklations, now let's get real The Maryland Am Tour is what it is all about :p

I am currently undecided what I'm going to do with this. I may just abandon this thread, and start anew under the current working title, or I might use the alternative I am holding in reserve. The name has already changed once. If you recall it was originally the Intermediate Tour when the deceased Blute and I started out. The name always reflected where I was in my DG career hence the new title. I might simply sell the MAT name to 857 and let him have it. We always had both groups under the MAT name, and we can do the same under the MPT name. If you look at the status of current MAT tour card holders I believe there are seven or eight pros to two or three ams.

Dick
Apr 07 2005, 03:44 PM
i say keep the name. most may be pros, but we sure throw like ams sometimes! :p

I have designed and ordered a MPT shirt for demo purposes, and may trot out the other option as well.

We all know the am tour comprises all the movers and shakers in MD disc golf. not much discussion on the md board over how to choose the state rep to the usdgc, so i am thinking of naming an event to choose the person. tallying points and holding a showdown match play event sounds like fun, but also a lot of work on my part. whereas naming say, the soiree, and just choosing the top MD finisher seems easy, and should help the soiree draw locals. what do you guys think?

or do we just settle it at a random tour stop with anyone who wants a chance throwing in 10$ for the winner? i would do the same at the soiree.

Apr 07 2005, 04:41 PM
I have a course in my yard in Walkersville...2 pole holes with 9 holes going back and forth across my 4 acres...you wanna stop there? I'll let my goats out so people feel a little like they're playing Hawk Hollow. We can combine it with a PRO mini making session.

hawkgammon
Apr 07 2005, 05:04 PM
I agree on the unpleasantness of keeping track of 50 players and points etc. You should try tallying official tour stops and appearances! If you're going to the solo event concept the only problem is the home course advantage that presents. Also limiting it to Pros only prevents someone like Service getting to go like he did a couple of years ago. Did they tell you the person going had to be a Pro? If you want to go one event then why don't you use the Rockburn Challenge? Everyone plays off the same tees, so if an Advanced or whoever shoots the best score, then they get the trip. That will help fill your event there I bet.

Dick
Apr 07 2005, 05:11 PM
yeah, that's a possibility. i'm tihnking the soiree or rockburn. that would be fun making gawler come to rockburn to get it.

Apr 07 2005, 05:15 PM
Dangit! I have 2 cousins making thier First Holy Communion the day of the Rockburn Challenge  guess I'll have to pick another year to win the MD spot at the USDGC. :D

md21954
Apr 07 2005, 05:16 PM
it ought to be as late in the season as possible.

remember this should go to the top finishing pro that isn't already qualified. in keeping with the spirit of the USDGC, effort should be made to send the BEST non-qualified person. let everyone scramble to get qualified, then give it to the person most deserving who hasn't. it'd be a shame to give it to someone who gets qualified again later.

hawkgammon
Apr 07 2005, 05:20 PM
It might be possible for Rich to have the event at Rockburn, then wait until the deadline, and then go down the results and give the spot to the highest non-qualifier. He doesn't want to schedule an event specifically to award the spot, and I think Paint Branch might be the closest tourney to the deadline, and giving it away at one of the smaller courses doesn't seem right either.

Dick
Apr 07 2005, 05:32 PM
Actually, that isn't the case anymore paul. you aren't privy to the state coordinator site, but harold duvall wants it done early. most states are doing it much earlier this year, like PA in a few weeks. waiting until the last minute isn't a good idea since the person won't easily be able to make plans.

Dick
Apr 07 2005, 05:34 PM
and it will go to the top finishing person who isn't qualified.

Apr 07 2005, 05:40 PM
Try to do it early enough so the winner can make plans. I would do a qualifier tournamnet at Patapsco or Seneca end of May, June. $20 entry, money is divided up before the USDGC to all qualified (and planning to attend) MD players. If the winner also gets a spot thru a USDGC qualifier then the State Rep spot passes down to the next highest finisher that is available to play. Promote it as a fundraiser/qualifier.

Dick
Apr 07 2005, 05:54 PM
too much work. i am going to use an existing event. if someone wants to volunteer to run a separate event, that would be an option. most likely it will be at rockburn.

Paul was that 24 hours or 24 days regarding the bmore turney results  :D

md21954
Apr 08 2005, 09:52 AM
i tried to submit them, but it wouldn't accept them. they were formatted correctly. i e-mailed the pdga on monday and have yet to hear back from them. [*****] it. i'm too busy to mess with it.

md21954
Apr 08 2005, 10:06 AM
happy now?

Dick
Apr 08 2005, 10:35 AM
it's a bit tricky getting the results to upload. it took me a while the first time, but i'm a stubborn sob. now i can do it with minimal fussing. you should have called me paul, but i guess now you've figured it out.

md21954
Apr 08 2005, 10:51 AM
it kept giving me an error that said...

The 'PDGANum' field can only contain positive numeric values. Please verify their contents and retry the upload.

but everything was numeric and in order. it'd have been nice to have heard back from the pdga, but i guess the $135 in fees needs to be received before they'll talk.

Wow wee I asked and now they are up, cool

BTW show me the money :D

PDGA office is closed, moving to GA this week.

Dick
Apr 08 2005, 11:30 AM
you usually get that message if you have blank spaces or n/a in the pdga number field. i usually just put a zero

md21954
Apr 08 2005, 11:42 AM
zero is not a positive number and won't work. you need to leave it blank (which i did, and it initially didn't accept it).

Sharky
Apr 08 2005, 11:45 AM
E is not current yet for this year but he has a number, is that helpful

Dick
Apr 08 2005, 11:46 AM
yeah, that's it you leave it blank and can't use a zero or an n/a. usually i play with it real quick as there is always a field that seems to have a value the stupid thing can't take.

md21954
Apr 08 2005, 12:23 PM
i work with large databases quite a bit and know data issues very well. those error messages are particularly frustrating to me for something that should be as simple as this. i had one mistake the first go round-- entering FA1 for women's adv instead of FW2, but that still doesn't explain the pdga # thing.-

Dick
Apr 10 2005, 01:06 PM
obviously, i was going to give you a beating! but i had td's disease. i think the td should get 3 strokes per round deducted fro his score. i couldn't hit a birdie putt to save my life, and i started 6-4-4-6 in the 1st due to no warmup. i'll have to save your beating for the sore-a!

<font color="blue">DON'T FEAR THE RIPTER </font>

<font color="red">Hawk Steals Win From Big Tom &amp; Dr. Evil </font>

Rich and I met up at Rockburn to RIPT up the course. On #1 we both hyzered out embarassingly on our drives. On #2 My CTP drive was followed up by an inferior upshot. As we complete #2 we spy Tom moseying up #1, so we wait for him at #3. Adding his name and first two holes to our card, and dealing out three RIPT cards to Tom we're off. On #3 we surround the basket, but only Tom can make the putt for deuce. :) He whips out a card on Rich denying him his Pro Orc for the rest of the round. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif On #4 Tom and I safely land in the fairway while Rich drives into the rough on the left side. On #6 Tom and Rich both annie over into the woods, and Rich then makes me tomahawk my drive. I end up behind a wall of trees, ending up with a five to the guys fours. On #7 Tom executes a spectacular second shot, and parks the basket for a three. :cool:Rich and I take fours. On #8 we all have good drives, though Rich's is a tad bit better landing 3' from the basket for his first deuce. :cool:On #9 I create a new tee 60' behind the current tee, and promptly drive into the rough on the left. Rich &amp; Tom both get into the wall. I four. However I have a card in my bag. ;) Scores after nine were:

Tom: 28
Rich: 29
Hawk: 33

At this point I lay my swap score card on Tom. In return he got three of my RIPT cards, and made me drive #10 with my Omega SuperSoft. The drive was actually half working until it turned into a roller and looped halfway back down the hill. I fived to the guys fours. On #11 Rich blasts a drive down to the gravel road for a three. On #12 My Sherwinder goes into the rightside rough so I take a drive mulligan. My Leopard gives me the CTP, so then, I believe it was Rich, makes me retee yet again. The QJLS was not quite as successful. After five throws I card a three with Tom while Rich fours. On #14 Tom sidearms a Starfire into the evergreen while I Sherwinder way left. Rich is forced to play the entire hole with a DX Aviar Putter after Tom lays a one disc hole card on the Bad Dr. Tom had already also taken Evil's Mojo from him. :D I end up threeing while Rich's second shot putter roller goes long past the basket for a four. Tom eats a circle five. :( On #15 I Eagle pin high to the new circle o' rocks position while Tom lands 25' straight in front of the pin. I three, and Tom's deuce putt hits the chains dead center and spits out. :mad:Rich fours. On #16 I shave the Eagle tight down the left side, and Tom sidearms short into some wood. Rich takes the scenic route, and Tom instantly, lie unseen, uses a swap lie card on him. :DRich fours to our threes. On #17 Tom uses the card that lets him drive with one of my discs, while I have to use one of his...both his choice. He takes my Beast while giving me his Omega SpongeSoft putter. Tom sidearms the Beast into the fairway while I crash and burn in the gully to the left. I Leopard up to the pin while Tom sidearms 1' behind me. Rich approaches 20' past, but uses an approach mulligan card to shave 5' off that. On #18 after examining the scores, I call short basket. Each of us hit trees on our drives. Tom then (still slightly disgruntled and bitter at my hijacking of his score after nine :D) cancels Rich's drive giving him another shot at catching me. This drive again hits a tree, and kicks way right into the rough. They both end up taking fours to my three. Scores on the back nine were:

Hawk: 30 (+1 bad luck card 59)
Tom: 32 (65 :p)
Rich: 33 (-1 good luck card 61)

Apr 11 2005, 12:02 AM
RIPT was a lot of fun! Thanks for letting me join late.
I thought the extra 60' on 9 made a cool tee.
I liked Rich's sneaky, nice drive on 16.
And Rich answered the lingering question if he could throw over 300'. He can.

From the tips? Ript round? I'm there!

My apologies to the freshly shorn Sean for my tardy arrival today. My 29 minute express lube ran slightly over two hours, so I didn't arrive at Seneca until nearly 1300. In my defense I did say noonish. :DIf I had known S.B. was a RIPTer I would have made some noise with the staff! I always have a deck in the truck. He did mention to me during the round that he's a fan, and Seneca would be a cool course to play it on. We will attempt to schedule a stop out there soon and do it for real.

Regarding my tardy arrival:

Are you still on daylight savings time?

-Sean

Sean invited me to join him and Keith for a round. There were about 30 people out there playing/practicing today. We started on #8 from the tips.

<font color="red">HAWK DEFEATS BALDING LOCAL IN MEDIOCRE ROUND </font>

We open up by both taking fours. :( Then Sean eats a five courtesy of his patented three putt to my three on #9. On #11 Sean takes the traditional OB for a circle four to my more traditional four. :( This is the beginning of Sean earning the title of Joe Circle. We are threeing and fouring along until Sean circle fives on #16. :mad:This embarassment is further compounded when his nalgene bottle toss dislodgement attempt fails to extricate his disc from the tree, and then I simply manfully nudge the tree sending the disc tumbling earthward. :oOn #18 Sean earns a horrific six when he attempts to create a route through the trunks of several trees. At this point Keith departs in disgust, but we pick up Dean Pfeiffer! Great now someone is going to throw some plastic the right way. Well that didn't really work out for Dean as we dragged him down to our level. I did at this point put the Eagle away as it was not quite working right today.

It's a good looking red though.

-Sean

On #2 Sean takes a five to my four, but then I go 4-4 to his 3-3. But then Joe Circle makes his final appearance of the round kicking OB on #5 giving me a two stroke swing on that hole. Cruising home I do manage to take a circle six on #7 after approaching into a cedar. :p A somewhat embarassing happening. Final scores were:

Hawk-70
Sean-73

<font color="red">HAWK HOLDS OFF SEAN AGAIN TO RETAIN COVETED GAWLER BUTT TAG </font>

Starting again from #8, but this time from the shorts I steal a quick two stroke lead as Sean goes five to my three after a scintillating Stingray roller goes over <----- there, and then his Roc shot fails to pass through a tree. Meanwhile I Q'ed up into the forest neatly. Dean is now throwing from both tees to practice for the Soiree, and also perform an exorcism on our play. I attempt to catch Sean in total circles on the day by Sherwinding OB on #11. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :mad:Have I mentioned how much I dislike this disc 73% of the time? On #12 I give Sean another stroke when my Beastly drive fails to buzzsaw through the left goalpost tree 30' off the tee. :oThen Sean trips me, puts his foot on my throat and punches me repeatedly in the face on #15 when his 45 degree drive off the tee (I can't remember if he rolled it or threw it ) lands 10' from the pin for our first deuce of the day :) :D :Dwhile I sissy my way around the jail for another four. Sean gives me the two strokes back on #17 &amp; #18 though. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif He gives me another one on #2. After #4 Dean breaks of in disgust to go and throw turnover shots on #11. Sean and I hear a lot of grunting and tree wacking behind us as we wait for a pack of four to play ahead of us. I finally deuce on #6 after Q'ing up the hill and actually making a 12' putt! :) :D Final scores were:

Hawk-59
Sean-61

<font color="blue">GLEN WINS ROCKBURN TOUR STOP & DEFENDS #1 BABE CARD </font>

<font color="green">Purse Toting Ray Finishes Second </font>

Gloin was at The Rock today celebrating his reportedly spectacular four hole babe card playoff with Deebo yesterday, after ending up tied after 18 holes, at Patapsco to bring the card back to Maryland.

There were seven of us total, so we sent the Hatfields and Lefty off first, then Tom, Ray, Evil and myself followed. Glen starts hot deucing #'s 3 & 8.:) Brady meanwhile begins collecting threes and fours. Sabrina is going four and five. Our little group gets to enjoy me three putting on #2 :(, but then Tom and I deuce #3. :DThis after Evil warns me that I can't throw the Valk into the headwind. Yes it was Valk and JK Aviar practice day today. ;) On #5 three of us not Evil surround the basket with very impressive drives, but only Tom and Ray collect the deuces. :) On #8 Ray lands 1' from the pin and manages to convert the deuce. :D On #9 Rich goes macho overshooting the basket into the creek :( for a circle four. Scores after nine were:

Glen-25
Tom-28
Ray-28
Hawk-30
Brady-31
Rich-32
Sabrina-41

On the backside Glen finally takes a four on # 11, but deuces 13 and 15. Apparently he excels at throwing downhill. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Brady takes his first five on #14. Sabrina goes six on #12, and 7 on #17. :( Meanwhile we let Will play through on #10. On #11 I again put on a three putt :mad:demonstration. Note to self: Stop playing with Sean...he's a bad influence. On 13 Ray deuces again and is joined by Rich. On #15 Rich machos over the creek only to catch an edge and roll back into the water for a circle five. :oNote to Rich...you can wash those things at home you know. We finally demonstrate that we sort of know what we're doing when on #18 we gun for the short basket per direction from Glen. Rich hyzers in to within 6' for the deuce. :cool:I gun right at it with the Valk and am 5' away on the other side for my deuce. :DRay then Orcs 15' to the left and naturally makes his deuce. :) Tom comes up a little short, and misses close from 35' out for the three. Scores on the back were:

Glen-26 (51)
Ray-28 (56)
Rich-28 (60)
Tom-30 (58)
Hawk-31 (61)
Brady-34 (65)
Sabrina-46 (87)

Ray's game has really evolved as he is now using two drivers with his Roc and Aviar. He also is carrying them around in a purse from the high fashion designer Wilson. There are also two other discs in the bag that Ray doesn't throw. We could have a contest to see who can correctly guess what those discs are. I belive one of them might be a Cheetah, but I didn't see either today, so I'm merely speculating.

Apr 18 2005, 10:43 AM
hawk and ray take some serious kicks on 17 while tom flicks up the middle to the 3 guardian trees. i am last and still hurting from my disc washing on hole 15. (but slightly mollified by my alternate route 3 on 16!) i turn right on the tee and spy a slight hole to the right of a large tree. i ask everyone if they think i should go that way instead. everyone laughingly jokes that i definitely should. i say ok, back up and whip my sidewinder through the hole and down the top edge of 16's fairway. it glides in nicely leaving about a 60 foot upshot for the easy 3. i promptly lob my putter over the shrubbery in the way and land within a couple feet, while the rest eat 4's.

Soiree Report...

First off Rich and I would like to thank Lewis for leaving the tourney and saving us from DFL.

Round one went from the short to longs, and I went 62 to Rich's 61. I played with SilverWolf, Steve Simpson and a man named Keith. Keith has the right attitude! My 62 was three strokes better than last year, and I end up with Dean Pfeiffer in my group for round two, so it must be halfway decent.

At intermission I get a look inside Brady's van. It looks like the cabin on a pleasure craft. All he needs to do is start tooling around in pajama pants and a smoking jacket.

Dean and I play with Bryan from Delaware of the yellow baby stroller. Round two was long to c. I easily break 70 (73), but still improve from last years second round. Dean shoots unDean like and is forced to reunite with Bryan and I Sunday morning. Evil goes five strokes better.

Sunday morning finds Dean, Bryan and I starting once again on #12. I started all four rounds there. Clearly I should sponsor this hole. It's long to B now. Dean finally begins to play better and shoots a 57 escaping from this group while Bryan also uses an escape ladder. Highlight of the round had to be my main driver ending up in the right side cedars on #7. Dean looks up and asks how attached am I too that disc. I tell him we're just moving on. #'s 1 & 7 were nightmares for me all weekend. I stumble in with the identical 74 I shot last year. Now the real fun begins. Evil brings in a 70.

Rich and I have talked about just taking a putter and going out there. I tell him this is our chance. We're so out of the money, Craig may make us pay again to keep playing, so it's now or never. He hesitates as we are still going long to A the final round. I challenge his manhood, and he declares a willingness to go driver/putter, before going to drown his sorrows at Jerrys. I attempt to recruit others to join this destined to be legend effort, but curiously many decline. We call those people cowards. The third party to our freefall threesome is the infamous Nick Kight. We approach him to join our challenge. He is intrigued, but declares that his intention is to kick our [deleted] and we'd better bring our whole bag so as to have no excuses. We agree that the two losers will make a small donation to the religious organization of the winners choice and head out.

Rich and I agree that we can't lose to this man. We start out with me losing three strokes to the two of them on #12 & 13. Then on #14, with a man spying on us from the shrubbery, I airshot through the forest to land 35' out. I calmly bank the putt in off a cedar branch for the deuce, and the games afoot! We continue to putz around on the back as I crawl back into contention in LoserFest 2005, and inch ahead of Rich, and then Nick. I make another deuce putt on #18, and actually three #1 after Classic Rocing through a couple of dozen tress. Nick decides to throw #2 entirely off the fairway. After #8 Nick and I are tied with Rich two back. We get to #11 still tied with Rich three back. Nick tees off and cranks his drive down the fairway, but hits the ground and rolls OB! I'm up next with Rich extolling me to throw a putter straight 100'. I decline and attempt to Leopard down the fairway. I had successfully/unsuccessfully done this three times prior with one barely IB and two landings on the hill. I figure I can still make a three from the hill, while Nick needs to make a 80'er for his. Naturally I Leopard into a tree, and kick OB by 1'. I end up taking a five to Nick's four, and lose by one stroke. In many ways this summarized the tourney, but that round was the most fun I've had in a tourney in a long time.

Someone has cut the grass...recently! They are following the patterns established by Dr. Evil's mercenary forces last fall. #12 got a little narrow, and 13-15 got missed, but it's not worth complaining about yet. Also the Leaning Tree of #3 is gone. They even hacked away in the woods like on #8. Everyone should get out there and take advantage of this while it's good. No plastic or blood lost.

Heading out to Rockburn today for some putzing around before what I understand is Wednesday night doubles I see Ski and Boyd pulling into the parking lot. I head down to putt, and eventually several other regulars of the minor league tour run by Mr. Sherwood roll in for a tag match. I choose to tag along without a tag for giggles. While this wasn't an official Tour stop, it was requested by Bill that I do the write up. Apparently the head of the bush league doesn't handle this. So off we go...

<font color="purple">COURSE PRO BOYD WINS OTHER tour STOP </font>

<font color="red">Your Disc Golf Hero Finishes Second </font>

<font color="blue">controversy swirls around eagle scout brady and mr. sherwood </font>

Seven players teed it up from the trips out at the Rock this afternoon in two groups. Group One consisted of Boyd, Paul, and George Brown. Group Two consisted of Mr. Sherwood, Brady, Ski and your beloved reporter. The threesome went first on #1 and we lumbered behind. On #1 Boyd scored the deuce :Dwhile Ski three putts :( for a four. On #2 Mr. Sherwood tries an alternate route heading for #6's fairway. On #3 deuces are scored by Paul, Bill, Mr. Sherwood and myself. I follow this up by deucing #4 with a killer putt , and am joined by Ski :) and George :D. Things then got interesting for our group on #5. Brady drives down the right side. Arriving at a briar bush just off the fairway he spies his disc in the bush, and thrusts a leg in and tries an approach resulting in some bloodletting and an unsatisfactory shot. Reaching in to retrieve his disc he is flabbergasted to see that it's not his blue Sherwinder, but I believe a blue Cyclone. :o  A giddy Mr. Sherwood then locates Bradys Sherwinder 10' in front of the bush and picks it up and commences a celebratory jig declaring that Brady is getting a two stroke penalty for playing from the lie of another. A dejected Brady then finishes out the hole with four throws and a potential circle six. Meanwhile Ski deuces the hole. :cool:On the tee of #6 Brady and Mr. Sherwood commence to debate whether Brady's misplay on #5 is truly a two stroke penalty or a one stroke. Brady posits that it wasn't the lie of another because the Cyclone belonged to none of us, and therefore his throw from that spot should be declared a practice throw and a one stroke penalty. Meanwhile Brady suggests that Mr. Sherwood should be penalized two strokes for moving Brady's disc upon his discovery of it. This kind of stuff never happens on the MPT! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ;) No mention of a potential penalty for Mr. Sherwood's unsightly breakdance is discussed. Meanwhile the other group disappears ahead of us. Finally Brady and Mr. Sherwood, accompanied by Ski, head back to #5 to reposition Brady's Sherwinder drive. Brady plays the hole out from there, taking four throws and a practice throw penalty for a circle five. Rules geeks are now free to step in and pontificate. Meanwhile after more disgruntled conversation on #6's tee we all drive. Mr. Sherwood cranks a Pro Starfire down the alley and is open for a 40' putt. I assure Brady that he will miss the putt which he does, then Mr. Sherwood leaves his disc on the ground 3' from the basket and hurries off to #7's tee to discuss something with Ski who had already cleared out. Brady and I finish the hole, and observe the pink dyed champion Aviar on the ground. I mention to the disgruntled Brady that the Professor has failed to complete the hole, and would be subject to a two stroke penalty if he tees off on #7 without putting out #6. With a diabolical glint in his eye we head to #7. After a brief break teeing resumes, and Mr. Sherwood actually does tee off without putting out #6. Brady then informs an aghast Mr. Sherwood that he is getting the two stroke penalty. Mr. Sherwood is indignant that neither Brady or I picked up his abandoned putter. He does go over and putt out. We hear chains. :DSki then changes Mr. Sherwoods declared three to a circle five. I concurred with Brady's assessed penalty, and was actually sporting my official's polo today. ;) Ski takes an unpleasant five on #7. :( On #8 George and Paul take fives. :mad:Mr. Sherwood deuces #9. :) At the turn scores were:

Billstream-26
Hawk-27
Sharky-29*
Ski-30
857-30
George-30
Brady-31

*Upon having the halftime scores declared Mr. Sherwood commences a hissy fit upon inquiring and having confirmed that his score included the uncompleted hole penalty strokes. A vigorous conversation ensued between Mr. Sherwood and Brady where accusations of cheap shots, dirty tricks, and cheating were bandied about. Meanwhile Ski and I discussed female Asian celebraties we'd like to bang. Mr. Sherwood eventually asked if I agreed with Brady about the situation on #6 and I declared that I did. Mr. Sherwood stated,

We don't do stuff like that in tag matches

to which I responded with

Where do we draw the line then? Are foot faults fair game? Can I simply decided what my score per hole will be regardless of actual shots taken?

At this point Mr. Sherwood states that he's not accepting the penalty strokes and storms off in an apparent forfeiture of the round. Ski woos him back with a call of

Twos are up.

Meanwhile George has deuced #10! :cool:Brady's drive disappears into the leftside rough and after declaring his disc lost and throwing from an agreed upon spot, he finds the lost white driver. :mad:During our search we see the other group teeing off on #17. :oCircle five for the bearded one. :( On #11 an angered Mr. Sherwood hyzers his drive left and short resulting in him discussing his displeasure at Brady's working of him over #6. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Ski deuces the hole :) while I miss my 15'er . A rattled Brady takes a four. On #12 I take a five much to Mr. Sherwood's delight, and am joined in my misery by George. On #13 I park the basket with the Leopard, but naturally miss the 10' putt. :mad:During this hole Brady mysteriously suffers an ankle injury and is forced to withdraw from the round. Ski and I speculate about the curious tossing off a piece of wood by Mr. Sherwood into the brush simultaneous to Brady's spraining of his ankle. Now Mr. Sherwood is free to spew his displeasure my way, and is disappointed when my drive on #15 fails to splash down as he declared but lands safely short of the creek. Meanwhile Boyd scores the rare circle three from the creek. :cool:On #17 I park the basket for the deuce with the Leopard. :cool:Who needs a Sherwinder? On #18 long Ski and I hack our way to fives while Mr. Sherwood scores a three. Scores on the back were:

Billstream-28 (54)
The Professor-29 (58)
George-29 (59)
Hawk-30 (57) where was this the second round on Saturday
Ski-30 (60)
857-32 (62)
Brady-dnf (999)

A good time was had by all! :D

For The Non-Sunspot Members

By Annie Linskey
Sun Staff
Originally published May 12, 2005
Every Thursday night, two hours before sundown, disc golf players swarm through the course in Druid Hill Park. In groups of three, they travel from one pole to the next, attempting to toss their disc in the perfect arc that will land it in a basket affixed to the pole.

Disc golf is similar to traditional golf in that there are 18 poles and the object is to get the disc into the basket with as few throws as possible. The obstacles on the course -- trees and hills -- take the place of sand traps.

Throws are made with different types of discs. Putters are blunt and don't cut through the air efficiently. They are good for short distances. Drivers are flat and have sharp edges; they travel the farthest. Serious players will have up to 15 discs in their bags.

But, unlike the traditional form, disc golf is fairly inexpensive. Discs cost about $5 to $15 apiece. Many courses are in public parks and charge a minimal fee for time on the green, and many are free.

Players say they like the amiability of the sport. "With baseball and football, you are playing head to head against another team," said Norm Eckstein, a longtime player. "With Frisbees, you are throwing to one another to warm up. It is interactive play, rather than a confrontational sport."

Players revel in the joy of tossing a disc through the air. "When a ball dreams," said Eckstein, "it dreams that it is a Frisbee. Frisbees actually fly. You can make them do things that balls can't do."

Enthusiasts say disc golf is easy to learn. "Anybody who's thrown a Frisbee before can come in and play," said Paul Lichtinger, who organizes the Thursday night tournaments in Druid Hill Park. "It is a quick plateau."

Beginners don't need to make a large investment. They can get away with using just two or three discs, said Lichtinger.

Anecdotally, Eckstein says that people he talks to are more aware of the sport than ever before, but the numbers don't suggest a swell in popularity. The Professional Disc Golf Association, the body that governs the sport, has a mere 9,500 active, dues-paying members. The sport is concentrated in California, Texas, North Carolina, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan.

Nevertheless, Eckstein is always on the lookout for converts. He introduces himself to players he doesn't recognize on the greens and encourages them to come for Thursday Night Triples in Druid Hill Park.

In the Thursday tournament, threesomes play together. The groups are organized so beginners play with experienced players. And, every week, Eckstein says, at least one beginner beats an experienced disc golfer.

"When that happens, they just light up," said Eckstein, "and then they're hooked."

Thursday Night Triples is played weekly during Daylight Saving Time. Druid Hill Park is on Druid Hill Drive in Baltimore. Games start two hours before sunset. It costs $3 to play. Visit www.mddisc golf.com.

Paul vows to submit the BGW tourney by tomorrow, or he's offered up a fine schedule to me. Looks like I'm buying everyone lunch in a cuple of weekends! ;)

<font color="blue">ROSEDALE GLEN RETAINS #1 BABE CARD AT THE ROCK </font>

<font color="purple">Billstream Suffers Sobering Second Place Finish </font>

Six of us set off in a foursome and a twosome today at half past high noon. Present were the course pro, Glen, Sgt. Ski, Ras Disc, The Evil One, and your reporter. The first four went off as I waited for the Dr., and we played as a twosome.

Rich and I both took rather embarassing fours on #2 after good drives. I managed to deuce #3 :), but Rich took the lead on #6 when his drive parked the newly shortened basket for an easy deuce putt :D, while I hacked my way to another four. Over in the fearsome foursome Boyd also deuced #3, and followed that up by also deucing #5. :cool:He followed that up with his usual circle four on #9. Scores after nine were:

Bill-26
Ski-28
Glen-29
Rich-29
Hawk-30
Jesse-30

I start off the back putting a stunning string of fours together on #'s 10-12. :mad:Rich deuces #13 with a flick drive landing 10' from the basket, and we both managed to deuce #17. :cool:I did manage to three #18 long. :DMeanwhile Glen and Ski both deuce #10 , and Glen then pairs up with Boyd on #13 for deuces. :) Glen then decides to leave a disc behind on #15 when the search party fails to find his drive for the circle four. :( Ski then deuces #17. Imagine that! Glen also threes #18 while Ski and Ras take fives. Socres on the back were:

Glen-26 (55)
Rich-28 (57)
Ski-29* (57)
Bill-30 (56)
Hawk-30 (60)
Ras Disc-31 (61)

Ski has another one of those embarassing math score problems blaming the course pro for the faulty addition. He had written a 56 which was really a 57. He and Bill were out playing off the card (which Bill won parking #1) when I discovered the error. Ski then ended up tied with Rich, and he surrendered the lower card to Rich in lieu of the two stroke penalty. Remember kids always bring your abacus!

i'm pretty stoked about those financials though...
thanks to hawk and tom, this was a pretty kick a$s c-tier.
100%+ payout across all divs (no entry fees deducted) and lunch provided. i did award the pdga membership to the top finishing int non-reg player (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=27101) a month or so ago. all told, i only lost a few bucks (not counting this bet to hawk which i need remind him is payable in pennys over 20 yrs).

sorry it took so long. if i ever do this again, i learned my lesson to do all this while it's fresh in your head. i've been incredibly slammed over the past two months (normally this sort of thing would be a priority when i get into the office, but that hasn't been possible).

Dick
May 25 2005, 12:42 PM
just a suggestion from my experience paul...

what i do is have as much of the report filled out before the event. i have all the distances and layouts in there if possible(at rockburn i only knew the first round), all the entry fees are in there and all the pre-reg'd people entered into the scores section. i have learned also that even with help it is almost impossible to enter the scores after the second round. i like to enter all the players in there also at lunch, but you could really just add filler places into the report so it would do the payout calculations...

<font color="green"> RAY & RICH WIN INAUGURAL PATAPSCO DOUBLES </font>

<font color="blue"> Two Teams Tie For Second </font>

Six players showed this morning for the first go at doubles on the big course successfully outdrawing Rockburn's weekly effort. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The course continues to be cut, and looks much better now than it did this time last year. Rich made contact with the park, and we're going to do some trim work soon. Also I'm hoping to shuffle baskets monthly. In attendence was Rich & Ray, Big Tom & Your Disc Golf Hero, and driving in from Seneca Sean and Mark. After conducting a Boyd minis toss the teams sorted into the above pairings. We set off from #10 playing the blues.

Rich & Ray (RR) executed two drives and an easy putt for the three. Tom and I (Tomahawk) opted to go up the road, for a disappointing four. Sean & Mark (S&M) took the same four going up the right side. On #11 Tom executes a sweet forehand approach and makes the putt for three :) while RR and S&M take fours. :( On #13 our wheels come off as we both miss the 12' putt :( giving the other two teams a stroke. We do the same thing on #14. :mad:Everyone matches each other until #18 when Rich cranks a drive down to the A pin, and Ray then approaches to 5' for the three. Scores on the back were:

RR-29
S&M-31
Tomahawk-32

Attempting to regroup I crush the Beast halfway into the ballfield actually going a little too far as we are now faced with a turnover approach. Tom sidearms us to within 10' and we think we are getting a stroke back :), but Rich nails a 35'er to match our three. :cool:S&M take the four. :( I brought a dyed KC Pro Eagle to use as a CTP on #2, and thought I would end up winning it back with my Leopard drive, but Rich and Sean both go by me with Sean's Beast winning him the Eagle. Look for this as a CTP at this Wednesday's Seneca Doubles. :DOn #3 we take my drive, and I almost put my second shot in the basket from about 150' out. Tom follows that up with a forehand that lands 12' away. :) Sean "Super Roc" B. approaches to within 10' also from about 150'. RR foolishly eschews an open hyzer apporach to try two overhands from behind a bunch of trees. They take the four :oto threes for the other two teams. On #4 I once again play Mr. Almost when my second shot narrowly misses going in. Everyone fours #5 as all six players miss a 12'-14' putt. :o  On #6 Tomahawk loses another stroke to the others taking the four. :) On #7 I Sherwinder down giving us a 12' putt. :p Naturally both Tom and I miss it (are you sensing the theme here? ;)) prompting Tom to turn and stumble over his bag sending discs scattering. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif As we arrive at #8 a storm front blew in with high winds and a smattering of rain. Rich throws his Beast down the fairway, and it bounces and floats and then hyzers all the way to the dry creek! RR threes to the other two teams fours. On #9 S&M take the four to the others threes. Scores on the front were:

RR-29 (58)
Tomahawk-30 (62)
S&M-31 (62)

<font color="red"> HAWK DEFEATS 857 ON HIS HOME COURSE... again. </font>

I headed over this afternoon to see what was going on at Druid. There were a lot of lid throwers out there today which was cool to see. While trying to practice some putting I was approached by a young lady who appeared to be one of the locals in the service industry. Noticing Mr. Druid @ 3:45 and Marc C. teeing off on #9 I scurried over to #10 to hook up with them. After tagging along on the back with them, Mr. Druid and I agreed to have a card/tag match from the metals.

I opened up hot parking and deucing #1 , and then doing the same on #2 :). Paul answers back with a deuce on #5 :D. I fail to take advantage of a chance to gain a stroke on #7 when I blow a 10'er :(, and do the same on #8 losing a stroke . Scores on the front were:

Hawk-27
857-27

On #10 I avoid my usual back side start of going 4-4 by actually threeing it :), but make up for it by taking a nickel on #11 :o. I lose another stroke to Mr. Druid on #12 by once again missing the 12'er. Being two up with three holes to go has Paul feeling confident...right up to the point that he takes a six on #16 after five putting it . We both midranged off the tee, and were left with similar distances. I plop up and out for my three, and Paul opts to hyzer over the bushes/trees behind the basket. He ends up not making it back into the opening, and his putt for three sails pass the basket, as does his putt for four, and his putt for five...and then in! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Now ahead by one with two holes to go I figure I'm coasting in. We both drive unimpressively on #17. On #18 We have similar drives again like we did on #16 with me being out. I announce that I'll lay up and take my three forcing Paul to run it in a last ditch desperation effort at the tie, but then I simply put in the 30'er for the deuce.;) Scores on the back were:

Hawk-30 (57)
857-32 (59)

Don't forget Saturday Doubles at Patapsco tomorrow morning at 1100.

Hosted by Dr. Evil.

6 golfers showed up for a round at patapsco. the rains cleared out before the start and shark was convinced to join us rathe rthan branch off for a tag match. unfortunately the draw saw zink and pheiffer teamed up against evil/BB and paul/sharkpaul and shark immediately gave up a stroke on #1 to the other 2 groups. on 2 Dr.evil wins the ctp prize of a disc from the bin of destiny! better luck next time guys! after tha let down dean and wayne don't even manage the duece and take a 3. ouch. on 3 boyd pops a 60'r for a 3, and not to be outdone, paul pops a 55' job. dean and wayne finish up the 3 frame. on 6 dean goes 20' past the c pin and makes the comeback for the duece!
on 7 wayne goes by the pin but dean hits the pole and stays closepaul and shark take a 3 and boyd knocks down another spectacular putt to keep us even with the "old pros"
on 9 the "old pros" make the second attempt at a tricky 25 footer and keep pace.

scores after 9
rich/bb - 25
dean/wayne - 25
shark/shank - 28

on 10 the evil team immediately finds trouble and takes a 4 to the other teams 3's
on 12 team evil fails to match again while the other teams take deuces. on 13 bb throws a prayer through the pines and gets a kick to within 10 feet. unfortunately paul comes up big with a laser of a putt from 60 feet or so. nice shot. didn't even worry about laying up. on 15 everyone has a bit of trouble, but paul and shark take the worst of it , losing a stroke with a 4. to be fair, wayne/dean only had trouble locating dean's drive. wayne threw a beauty!. 16 deuces around! on 17 i look and we are still only 2 strokes behind the "old pro's". bill whips a beaut with his stingray but hits a tree near the pn leaving us short and high. order is determined to be s/p, r/b, w/d. shark and paul both with high metal on putt for 2. bill makes his first bad putt, but i can a nice clutch putt for the 2 while dean and wayne both miss! we are within 1! unfortunately bill and i both shank our drives (and take a horrible 5) on 18, then watch as wayne drives a perfect one down the pipe for an easy 3. shark and paul also take a 3, but it is too little too late to move into second and take the sidebet...

wayne and dean leave with enough to hit subway.

see you guys next week. the course looks good and is being cut. fairways are tight in the back, but we are working on that. :D

merhi, we expect to see you out there soon to support your favorite course now that we are getting mowing!

While out at Patapsco today I ran into three guys passing through. I believe I have the names correct. Eric was from the District and his two friends from Wisconsin (brothers Dan &amp; Paul) were in town. They were making it a day of discing, and were encouraged to check out Patapsco by Gabby from West Virginia. They headed off to #4 after warming up, then realizing that wasn't #1 came back to the practice baskets where the following exchange took place:

One of Them: Excuse me. Where's #1?
Hawk: It's right over there. [points to #1]
OOT: Thanks.
H: No problem. First time here for you guys?
OOT: Yes.
H: Would you like me to walk you around the course?
OOT: That would be great.

After they agreed to play the blues (I had come to play the reds, but I'm the congenial host) we set off. Paul was keeping score for them, and lumped me on their card. I was keeping my own as I always do when practicing. Things started off kind of rough for the group. The first major disappointment for everyone but Paul (he makes the three) was the other three of us missing 10' putts for threes on #4. Fortunately this wasn't foreshadowing for another bad Patapsco Putting day for Your Disc Golf Hero. On #5 I notice Paul is using a Hawk. I explained to him how this was a ploy by Discraft to get me to switch brands. I also mentioned the curious fact that there isn't a Hysell. They all nodded their heads in understanding. I found the tour guiding somewhat distracting to my play. After the front nine I was sitting on a fat 35. :oI don't have their scores as I failed to think to copy Paul's card after the round. I believe their scores were 36, 37 and 46. The 46 belonged to Eric who was working with what I believe was an Aurora MS, and a SuperSoft. After nine Paul suggested that we switch to the reds to give the other two a better chance at some birdies. I pointed out that there were only a couple of birdie opportunities out there which I think the group found a little intimidating. During the walk the following exchange took place:

OOT: This is great having a tour guide like this.
H: No prob.
OOT: We should be paying you for this.
H: Yes you should.

Finally at #12 I crank the TeeBird and land one foot from the basket. Thinking I was going to be King of The Birdies, both Paul and Eric also make their putts, and Dan almost makes it a star frame. Why aren't I pounding these guys? Finally on #14 I; but unfortunately most of the group also, finally settle down and put together a string of threes. On #15 I Sherwinder down to the fallen log, but miss my 12' deuce putt. I was turning all my drives over today regardless of it being the Sherwinder, Leopard, Beast or TeeBird. Must of been a wrist issue. I boldly told Paul before the Sherwinder drive on #15 that it should work out since I was already flipping everything anyways. The group was stunned at my brilliant execution of my called shot. I nearly lost the back on #18 when I flipped the TeeBird into the Island O'Woods. Fortunately Paul turned his drive over even worse. I took a five for a 30 on the back. Midrange/Putter Eric also shot a 30 on the back, and the other two shot 31's I believe. Final scores probably were:

Hawk-65
Paul-67
Dan-68
Eric-76

After the round the guys were talking about hitting another course. They asked about the one in the city and the one off of 70. I told them they probably meant Druid, and Rockburn off of 100. I suggested that they should probably hit Druid for a change of pace, plus I could probably hook them up with T.N.T. host Paul L. They seemed very excited at the prospect of another guided tour. I rang 857 to see if he was available.

Paul: Hey what's up?
Hawk: What are you doing?
P: Watching baseball and looking at porn on the internet.
H: I've got three guys here at Patapsco from out of town doing a disc tour.
P: Cool.
H: I want to send them your way. Can you hook up with them and play a round with them at Druid at 1600?
P: Absolutely.
H: Great. Make sure they tip you.
P: Of course!

The boys headed off to the Mangia Grill (on my recommendation) for a lunch and brew. Before departing Paul had me autograph his Hawk as a keepsake of his brush with greatness. Doubtlessly this will be on Ebay some day. Mr. Druid @ 3:45 will have to fill us in on whether or not the guys made it to Druid and what happened from there.

The course continues to look good up to #12. Evil and I are planning on doing some work on 12-16 after doubles this Saturday. I'll also shuffle the baskets. Naturally it will rain now, but that's the plan.

they made it to druid about an hour late. eric is a huge fred couples fan, and fred was leading the tourney so they had a hard time leaving the owl bar's lunch (note they didn't trust hawkgayman's restaurant recommendation). i told him fred was only winning because all the big players weren't playing. he didn't like that.

i was wrapping up nine with rich o from the metals (my score was 25) when they arrived. i took them around, shanked a couple drives but made 3-4 50'+ putts. none of us were keeping score. the other paul might have beat me, but i think he took a big number on 11 and 12. i wasn't playing very well. it was another one of those days where 50-100' i was unstoppable, but anything 20-50', i'd doink.

i was going to bail after nine because i was due home for dinner at six but the first couple holes on the back really could use a guide.

my highlight, was a huge roller on 12 that went a good 60' by the basket through the woods onto the road. i floated my putter up high and it swished into the basket.

btw... i'm a druid hill champion disc golfer and have a medal to prove it.

Jun 06 2005, 12:39 PM
what if there is more than one group? is that ok?

md21954
Jun 06 2005, 12:44 PM
if organized properly, yes. i'd definitly not put it up in scenarios like that hawk, lefty, shark, ski debacle at the rock a few weeks back. i'll try to avoid that stuff. we were teeing on 17 as those schleps were sauntering up 10. i ain't gonna stick round to exchange tags in that scenario.

i've never declined a tag match without a valid reason. for instance pre-TNT tag matches are a no-no because i know i'll probably bail before we finish.

i don't believe in fivesomes, though sometimes they are neccessary-- it bugs me to the extent that my tag won't go up in a herd like that. i will never play in a sixsome.

if we have a posted three group and a fourth shows up, fine. a fifth and my tag is out. herd golf bugs me if you haven't noticed.

<font color="blue"> ZINK GOES BACK TO BACK WINNING PATAPSCO DOUBLES THIS WEEK </font>

<font color="orange"> Newbies Ski &amp; Jimmy James Hold Off Ray &amp; Mr. Sherwood For Second </font>

Seven players showed today at 1100ish to set a new Patapsco Doubles attendence record. Due to the odd number and odd players we were forced to have someone go solo. We decided to have the owner of the mini that was furthest out after the <font color="purple">Boyd Mini Toss</font> (the <font color="purple">Boyd Mini Toss</font> is a copyrighted feature of Patapsco Doubles) be the one going solo. This turned out to be Your Disc Golf Hero. Eschewing the declasse' traditional term schizo I elected to deem anyone playing solo from now on The Lone Ranger. Rules if you are The Lone Ranger are that you put in another $2, and you can take two shots from each of your lies. Meaning that in my case today I threw about 117 shots. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif To prevent anyone being discouraged after being The Lone Ranger someone can not be the Lone Ranger two weeks in a row. Also if the odd man out does not want to be The Lone Ranger , we will seek a volunteer to be The Lone Ranger and pay the extra $2. Ray was eager to be The Lone Ranger today, but he's Ray. We would then put The Lone Ranger's mini aside and conduct a second <font color="purple">Boyd Mini Toss </font> with the remaining even numbered minis. Teams were Boyd &amp; Zink (Bonk), Ski and Jimmy Jim James (Skimmy), Ray &amp; Mr. Sherwood (Raywood), and your reporter as The Lone Ranger. Bonk and Skimmy started on #1, and Raywood and The Lone Ranger started on #10. We played from the blues.

I quickly gave a stroke to Raywood on #10 taking a four, but got it right back by threeing #11. I lost three more strokes on the back fouring #'s 13, 15 &amp; 17. We were deuceless on the back. :( Meanwhile on the front Bonk and Skimmy are dead even through seven until Skimmy takes a four to Bonk's three on #8. They were also deuceless on the front. :oScores after nine were:

Bonk-28
Skimmy-29
Raywood-29
The Lone Ranger-32

Heading out onto the front I quickly lost my yellow Beast in the rough on #1, and Raywood threes to my four. I started chipping away at Raywood's lead by picking up strokes on #3 and #5 (after nailing a 70' putt for the three /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif), but gave one back on #9 taking the four. Meanwhile Skimmy loses another stroke to Bonk on #10, and then Bonk finally gets the deuce train rolling hitting #12 :) and #13. :cool:Bonk closes out Skimmy by tallying their third deuce of the back nine on #17 :D, then threeing #18 to Skimmy's 4. Scores for the second nine were:

Bonk-24 (52)
Skimmy-29 (58)
Raywood-30 (59)
The Lone Ranger-30 (62)

Having forgotten to pony up the weekly CTP, I awarded Triple J the official Patapsco Doubles Roc. Look for Jim to be sporting this in future rounds, and prepare to be envious.

After the round I commenced shuffling baskets. I have a call into Course Pro Myers (not to be confused with Tournament Director Myers) to move three that I couldn't find or unlock. I believe the layout is as follows: 1-B (I need Jim to move it to A), 2-A (I need Jim to move it long), 3-A, 4-C, 5-A, 6-B, 7-A (I need Jim to find C for me), 8-B, 9-B, 10-A, 11-C, 12-C, 13-A, 14-C, 15-B, 16-C, 17-B &amp; 18-A. We'll leave it like this for the summer to hopefully get mowing done. Also this was more of a hassle than I thought it would be. I spent three hours wrangling those suckers around.

Next Saturday we go from the reds at 1100.

<font color="blue">DEAN RALLIES TO DEFEAT YOUR DISC GOLF HERO IN MANO Y MANO PATAPSCO SHOWDOWN </font>

<font color="green">Colonel Sanders Mows Back Nine For Your Discing Enjoyment </font>

Arriving late this afternoon to get some work in with the Eagle* (*official driver of Seneca's King of the Grandmasters) I see Dean in the parking lot just coming off the front nine. After some chatting we agree to play a round. Dean also told me he could find 9-A and 7-B for me, which he did, so thanks to Dean for that. He also volunteered to come out and do some weedwacking on the wood holes. :cool:We agreed to play the reds.

Dean jumps out to an early lead threeing (the soon to be extended) #1 while I take a four. I even things right back up though by parking and deucing #2 :). Dean answers with a deuce of his own on #3. :cool:We both manage to three #4 which is across the street, and where Dean's drive landed. I take the lead on #6 when my new best friend the Eagle parks herself 10' short of the basket. :DDeuce for me while Dean's putt for four (after a Boyd drive) goes out the backdoor for a five. :( Dean calmly regroups though and makes a 25'er for the deuce on 7-A before we moved it back to B. On the freshly moved 9-A I Leopard right over the top and miss the 15'er :(, while Dean scrambles back out of the rocks. He forgot we had moved the basket and crushed his Starfire into the rocks. A great drive for the C pin. :o /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Scores after nine were:

Hawk-27
Dean-28

On #10 Dean catches the overhang and lands right and short. I crank the Eagle and land 10' short of 10-B. (Now moved to 10-A). Dean lines up and nails the 100'+ putt :eek: for his deuce ruining the glory of my own deuce. :( At this point Dr. Evil and his trusty mower have arrived to get to work on the back. We help Rich unload the tractor, he loads up with soda, and a big straw hat and drives off down #11. My kingdom for a camera. Dean makes his move on #12 cranking his drive to the downed tree. I have Eagled short and to the right of everything. My Spider approach sizzles by the basket, but I miss the comeback while Dean calmly gets his three. Dean takes the lead on #15 when he nails another long deuce putt :) while my putt for three goes out the backdoor as Deans did on #6. :mad:Clearly these baskets are defective. I get a stroke back on #17 when Dean bonks his three putt, but on #18 he rips a drive straight at the pin landing 15' short :Dfor an easy closing deuce. Meanwhile I'm in the Island O' Trees again. :( Scores on the back were:

Dean-28 (56)
Hawk-32 (59)

Rich reports that he has fairwayed 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 & 18. So come and get some while the gettings good. Thanks big guy.

local flickmastah pat mcelroy contributed $346 to his kids college fund by aceing the freshly moved 13a!!!

whatta night for TNT. 41 players came out and enjoyed a pristine, freshly mowed 18 from the metals and some homemade hummus courtesy of yours truly. according to someone who should know (terry roddy), "druid has never looked nicer".

to add to his winnings team pat mcelroy/dj/non-hairfarmer jesse won $41 each after playing off against team no spin/normie/newbie matt. apparently dj deuced 11C-- a feat by itself. both teams finished regulation at -14. the great karnak was correct that team no spin wouldn't win, but only off by a stroke on the birdie count.

mickley won the three orioles tix courtesy of rec and parks. they're good seats in center field.

don't fret though people. the ace pot is still big with next week's payout topping $170+.

tonight's total TNT payout was over $514 buckaroos.

congrats to pat m, and thanks everyone for coming out. cya next week from the woods.

Randy, Dane, Dr. Mike, Juke, The Pros and SoSexy deuce the shortened #10. :) Several teams took four on the stretched out #11. Randy, The Pros, and Me&Him deuce #13. I was hitting putts early, and Marc started giving us some distance with his sidearm driving of his Pro Orc which worked out nicely for us. Meanwhile Sara is showing her own putting prowess to team nicely with Ski's whiplike distance. Dane is the only team :oto deuce #14 , and several teams took fours on the shortened #15. There was another scattering of fours on the stretched out #16. On #17 Dr. Mike deuces as do Me&Him after I Leopard to the fence, and Marc hyzer putts in over the fence. :D On #18 Marc overdrives the basket, but I make the comeback for the deuce, which is also collected by DJ2 & Dane. :DScores on the back were:

The Pros-25 (49)
Me&Him-25 (52)
Randy-26 (50)
DJ2-26 (54)
SoSexy-26 (54)
Dr. Mike-27 (53)
Dane-27 (54)
Juke-30 (60)

In the haste to get going we forgot to set-up the FTP, as we were trying to figure out who Glen's (who is looking more like Jimmy Connors every day) keys belonged to, so we had no winner in that. We'll try and hook that up next Saturday when we go from the <font color="blue"> blues </font> .

nice job guys. the more organized dg at the park is, perhaps the more support from the park (but you already know that ;) )

i had family stuff yesterday and won't make it next week because of the big cup, i'll probably make it july 2.

ski... that restaurant is www.schmankerlstube.com (http://www.schmankerlstube.com)

i recommend the schmankerl topf or ordering the pork shank a day prior. they'll serve beer by the FIVE LITER (but i don't advise that). stick to the .5 or 1 liters and you'll be happy

<font color="black"> DR. EVIL &amp; SKI WIN PAPTAPSCO DOUBLES AFTER ONE HOLE PLAYOFF! </font>

<font color="blue"> Boyd &amp; Hawk Billfold </font>

Six of us braved the heat this morning to tee it up from the <font color="blue">blues. </font> Joining the four of us were two rookies Matt and Shawn. After the <font color="purple">Boyd Bag Mini Pull </font> which replaced the <font color="purple">Boyd Mini Toss </font>as the official draw method teams were Rich and Ski (Dr. Sexy), Bill &amp; Hawk (Team Choke) and Matt (the sidearmer) &amp; Shawn (the putter) (The Young Guns). We herded our way onto the back as a sixsome and started on #10.

After watching The Young Guns drive on #10 Boyd turns to me and says, "How badly are we going to beat these guys?" To which I reply, "By double digits at least." Ski pipes in with "12 strokes easy." Boy were we wrong. :oTeam Choke and Dr. Sexy each get a stroke on The Young Guns after the first hole. Team Choke takes the lead on #13 when I TeeBird down through the trees and Billstream nails the 15' putt for the deuce. :cool:We stretch the lead to two on #17 when I Leopard to about 30' short of the fence, and we up and out for a three to the other teams fours. Scores on the back were:

Team Choke-29
Dr. Sexy-31
The Young Guns-32

The wheels came off for us on #2 when Bill and I both hit early and left while Ski cranks a Sherwinder down the fairway to about 10' short of the pin. Dr. Sexy makes the deuce putt :) while The Young Guns take a three, and we stumble in with a four. :( On #3 we conducted the FTP (Furthest From The Pin) and unfortunately I botched my drive 2' worse than Bill to retain the disc. Meanwhile The Young Guns deuce the hole, :cool:while the other two teams take threes. On #4 Dr. Sexy take the overall lead by threeing while the other two teams take fours. On #6 The Young Guns lose a stroke while Dr. Sexy and Team Choke go threes to their four. Walking up from #6 Bill says, "We need to get a hole on them." To which I reply, "Okay." I drive the stained glass Eagle down to about 25' to the right of the A pin position. Bill then Stingrays down the fairway, and then promptly nails the 30' putt for the three. :D Dr. Sexy takes a four, and The Young Guns eat a five. Scores on the front were:

Dr. Sexy-28 (59)
Team Choke-30 (59)
The Young Guns-31 (63)

Matt &amp; Shawn departed as the four of us tromped over to #1 to start the tiebreaker from the <font color="blue"> blue </font> tee. Bill and I perfectly recreated our drives from the first time, while Ski motors down the fairway, and Rich takes his Patriot TeeBird and rolls it into the rough. Bill and I take my drive as we did the first time, but I fail to Spider in as well as before, and Bill Comets to the right. Ski parks the pin with his official Rockburn Roc. Boyd steps up and is perfectly on line with his 30'er, but it runs out of gas and hits the bucket. I sail by on the right. Ski steps up and easily makes his putt for a three and the win!

Next week we go from the <font color="red"> reds </font> for you pansy arms. Also we'll be having a LMP (Longest Made Putt) for a 20th Anniversary Aviar*. This replaces the CBP (Closest Botched Putt-you obviously need a new putter) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif concept which I've rejected. I think we've seen the last of the FTP also. ;)

I seem to remember a phone call this afternoon concerning that. ;)

Jun 28 2005, 04:12 AM
I am currently undecided what I'm going to do with this. I may just abandon this thread, and start anew under the current working title, or I might use the alternative I am holding in reserve. The name has already changed once. If you recall it was originally the Intermediate Tour when the deceased Blute and I started out. The name always reflected where I was in my DG career hence the new title. I might simply sell the MAT name to 857 and let him have it. We always had both groups under the MAT name, and we can do the same under the MPT name. If you look at the status of current MAT tour card holders I believe there are seven or eight pros to two or three ams.

Deceased? Not exactly...

i believe my big cup and i will be attending paultapsco dubs this saturday. looks to be good weather.

Jun 29 2005, 03:24 PM
It's been too long for sure:)

Yeah I'm still kickin' and huckin' though not as often as I would like. I don't have the time these days nor the proximity to a course - and certainly nothing like the Rock!

The private course is coming slowly, though I have laid out nine provisional pin positions and tee pads in the areas around the old house that have been cleared and we keep mowed. Ahhh, mowing... it's mowing season so these days that takes most of my time. Anyway I only have one basket but I guess that's better than nothing. I'll pick up a couple more in the coming year and actually put in some pins. The place has so much potential but I cannot do it alone so I gotta get out and get more involved in the OKC/Norman scene... it's just difficult since that is about an hour from where I live. Hopefully, I'll be able to hook up with some discers from Pott/Seminole county this fall and get something rolling closer to where I am... I'll post some pix of the place on my site so you guys can have a look.

I miss you guys... Hawk, Ski, Paul, Sharky, Rich, BillBo and the rest of the peeps - and all of those beautiful, awesome courses! If you guys see Felty and Service tell 'em I said Hey!

I'll try to stay in touch a little more...

please tune in to fox 45 saturday at ten to see a very nice piece on norm and TNT. no spin, hairfarmer, norm and myself all have speaking rolls. i have a copy on dvd but no burner. i'd like to hook up with someone who has a burner to make a couple copies. it's very well done, about 4 minutes long. the quote of the piece goes to jesse-- "if i didn't have this course to come to after work, i'd be a hooligan!" followed by a classic chit eatin' grin .

30 players came out last night for an even ten teams to shoot from the metals. i was drawn with ski and sara and we shot a solid 12 down. look out ladies! sara sure can huck! look for her to be taking some plastic home at a tourney near you in the not-too-distant future.

all was moot because the juggernaut of a team in no spin, glen, rich o was the obvious favorite and won decidedly with a -17 . glen, after some persistent ribbing, said he'd bump up to a five. it's about time! the matter was sealed even more after no spin claimed glen to have carried the team.

team fitch/iowa/BB? came in second with a -14 that likely would have won or tied any other night.

the ace pot was not hit.

thanks everyone for coming out. see ya next week (or sat at 11 at paultapsco doubles).

<font color="blue"> DR. SEXY WINS PATAPSCO DOUBLES FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW </font>

<font color="green"> Two Teams Come In Three Strokes Back </font>

14 teams showed up yesterday morning for some action from the <font color="red">reds. </font> Defying what has to be astronomical odds, Rich and Ski were the first two minis out of the bag reuniting the triumphant Dr. Sexy team from last week. Also in attendence were Shark and Big Tom (The Geezers), Mark and Luke (2K), Dan and Marc (Darc), Tom E. and Sean B. (E.B. Whitey), D.J. and Michael (DJaM), and myself and 8(I won Advanced at the Morgan Cup)57 (The Hosters).

On the front we quickly noticed that No Spin had been out this week and moved #1 and #2 for us. Thanks to Jim for that. Unfortunately the park has installed a new grill 4' from #1 long, so now you have the chance for a grill par as well as a shot at the basket. This could provide many entertaining moments in the future as picnicers and discers intersect. ;) With #2 going to the B pin the deuces were cut down, but you can't stop Dr. Sexy who pick it up. :D The Hosters deuce #3 as do 2K, DJaM, The Geezers, and of course Dr. Sexy. :p Dr. Sexy follow this up by deucing #5 where it is reported that the Kinder Course Pro nearly got the first Patapsco Doubles ace by Sherwindering into the chains :), but unfortunately failing to stick. :( Rich and I have agreed to pony up $50 to anyone who manages to hit an ace, and then start an actual ace pot after that. We think the odds of it happening are long, as neither of us can recall a Patapsco ace, but then again what are the odds of Dr. Sexy being teamed up two weeks in a row? The Geezers get the lone deuce on #6 , and the front closes with E.B. Whitey deucing #9. Scores on the front were:

Dr. Sexy-24
The Geezers-26
E.B. Whitey-28
DJaM-28
The Hosters-29
2K-29
Darc-30

On the back E.B. Whitey deuces #10 as Tom chicken wings to within 3' of the basket. :cool:Dr. Sexy and The Geezers also collect the deuce. DJaM deuces  #12 as D.J.'s drive lands underneath the basket! Deuces abound on #13 as E.B. Whitey, The Hosters, Dr. Sexy, and The Geezers all cash in. Everyone is shut out until Dr. Sexy collects the deuce on #17, and follow that up by twoing #18. E. B. Whitey also deuce #18 off another Tom Edwards chicken wing drive. Scores on the back were:

E.B. Whitey-25 (53)
Dr. Sexy-26 (50)
The Geezers-27 (53)
DJaM-28 (56)
The Hosters-28 (57)
2K-28 (57)
Darc-31 (61)

Our longest made putt went to Luke Ski.

Sean was sporting and throwing the eagerly anticipated Quarter K which is very thick and made out of seemingly cheap plastic. After one week he reports many dings.

Next Saturday Dr. Evil will be your host from the <font color="blue">blues </font>. Someone has to stop that team!!! :D

Team Hatfield / Ski takes home the $$$ with a solid 53, from the tips. One 4 was taken on hole 11 and I believe one other (?) by your winners :( . Highlights were Ski's park job on hole 15 and Glen's total lack of putt :o! We did work well as a team. look man, i have 24 hours to post the write up, right?

now that the suspense is blown, i'll stick to the facts...

glenski , bigstick(big tom & jg), old and older(george and shark) and dr. dean were the big guns out of the draw, which was improvised out of my bag since Hawk forgot to give me the "Bag of Destiny" tm. 12 discers made the 11ish start, delayed for ski and lefty who called that they were running a little late

on hole 1 glenski and bigstick take 3's while everyone else takes a 4.on 2, jg and tom give one back with a 4 Embarassed on 3 dr. dean fail to get to the green and take the awkward 3. on 5 DD takes one back with a great drive by dean and a long "putt" by rich Cool on 7 DD takes a 4 while the other 2 big guns take 3's , wow! shark and george take a 7, proving they can't keep up with the other "big guns" today Laughing but they are the only team to take a duece on the deceptively hard #9.

after 9:
bigstick - 27
old/older - 31
DD - 28
metalmichael - 33
**** lefty(Dan and Brady) - 29 (surprise contender?)
glenski - 27 (all 3's)

on the back , DD start off with the only 3 on 10 after your evil host parks it! on 11, which i might add is probably the longest hole in MD, everyone takes a 4 except for DD who capitalize on a great upshot by dean. on 12 bigstick takes a 4 to the other contenders 3's. on 13 DD manages to turn a duece hole into a bogey hole when both players run the 2nd shot and neither can make the comeback Sad strangely, nobody else dueces. on 15 ski aqpparently park one of the few lefty holes instead of leaving his team halfway down the canyon! the other contenders take 3's. on 16 they keep up their hot run with a 3! that is basically a birdie on that hole, the other teams take 4's except for **** lefty who take a hard luck 5. not sure what hapened, but maybe the kids in the fairway had something to do with it? somehow on 17 everyone takes a 3, with michael making a really nice putt from just past the fence that hung on the rim and dropped in! Cool
on 18 glenski strikes again, while everyone else takes 3's. DD had a chance at 2, but couldn't hit the 29 footer, summing up our putting performance for the day. nice win, glen and ski! each took home 12$ with glen reclaiming his 4 50 cent pieces. come on out next week for another chance at the shorts and a much funnier writeup!

Wow, dude that some news! It's all good :DJust be careful out there, brother...

I only played a few full rounds in the last year... it's just not convenient but like Paul says I take the basket out and make up some shots. That lets me get in some practice at least... I actually put in one tee pad Grange style... carpet :DIt's actually the most consistant and easy to maintain surface I've played on... cheap, too ;)
This is an old picture of that hole before I put down the teepad... #2 (http://www.blutimus.com/farm/graphics/images/010.jpg) It plays from under the 3 huge oak trees in the background, down the hill through the trees or over the garage.. about 300 feet straight... and the garage likes to eat DX plastic :D

Thanks for the kudos on the site.. it is definitely far from complete. There should be pictures for some of the Blutefest dates but the script seems to be malfunctioning at the moment... the writeups are pure Hawk, for the most part :p

<font color="orange">SKI WINS PATAPSCO DOUBLES FOR THE FOURTH WEEK IN A ROW!!!! </font>

<font color="blue"> Gawler Unable To Prevent Fourpeat. </font>

<font color="green">10 players start, but only eight finish </font>

Arriving at the course at 1030 this morning I anticipated finding a gang of discers thrusting pitchforks and torches in the air in preparation for stopping the <font color="orange">Ski Run. </font> However the course was deserted save for a twosome on the front, and a foursome who sauntered by on the way to the back while I was applying some sunblock (http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_214.asp) and bug spray (http://www1.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&amp;storeId=10001&amp;produ ctId=10152&amp;langId=-1&amp;parent_category_rn=10001). I wasn't too concerned that they might be viable doubles participants as one of them left his wallet and cell phone on the roof of their car...knowingly...in the drizzle! I got about a dozen warm up putts in before the rain intensified and I retreated to the truck. Just as I was thinking I might get the victory simply by showing up and going around the course solo with one disc, (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/proclassicroc.html) cars started rolling in right at the top of the hour. My cohost chickened out claiming an injury, but we had a special surprise gunslinger (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=12823) in town to take on our three time defending champ who arrived wearing a womans camisole (http://www.abucci.com/Cosabella/Camisole1.jpg) undershirt. Minis were drawn from the official Patapsco Doubles Bag (http://www.earthchic.com/ecospun.htm) by John John's comely young companion. (http://www.mesh5.com/tension/summer97/images/olga.jpg) Teams were Hawk (http://www.darkhorizons.com/2002/juwanna/juw10.jpg) &amp; Ski (The Fearless Male Models), Tom E. &amp; Luke Ski (Master &amp; Apprentice), Bryan &amp; Matt (Can You Putt?), Tom P. &amp; Dan (Middle Aged White Guys), and Marc &amp; John John (The Scaredy Cats). FMM and M&amp;A started on #10 as I cleverly sent the sixsome off to #1 without me. ;) Unfortunately this write-up now becomes very Mr. Sherwoodish as the sixsomes card never made it to the completion of the round, so the only details I have are from our card. Playing from the <font color="red">reds </font> we were off under a light drizzle.

Tom drove and parked #10 for M&amp;A and Luke made the putt (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/classicroc.html) for the deuce :) while Ski goes OB (this is the three time PD champion?) and I hit the branch to come up short. We get back to even with M&amp;A when Ski drives (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/championFirebird.html) #13 and sinks the putt for the deuce. :cool:I continue to stand around looking good, (http://greggavedon.com/Copy%20of%20MH%20pol.jpg) and contributing little. I finally start pulling my weight (http://home.interserv.com/~jeffbeth/weights.jpg) on #16 when I drive (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/championEagle.html) us into the wheatfield, as the rain started thundering (http://www.abc.net.au/northcoast/stories/Lightning_m830744.jpg) down all around us. After Ski's approach, I nail a 70'+ putt for the three :D, as Tom grabs some turf as another bolt slams into the ground within spitting distance. Standing on #17's tee we consider our chances for survival unaware that the sixsome has already piled into their cars, and Team Scaredy Cats have fled the park. After calculating the odds of being killed we decide to press on and regroup in the parking lot. Coming down #18's fairway we see cars awaiting us marveling at my laser like drive that set us up for a missed deuce. :( Scores for the first nine were:

Fearless Male Models-26
Master &amp; Apprentice-27
Can You Putt-?
Middle Aged White Guys-?
The Scaredy Cats-999

The sixsome (now a foursome) reports that they have only completed six holes. :oSissys! We hunkered down in our vehicles and waited out the heavy stuff for about half an hour. Around 1300 we set back out with the foursome heading to #7 and our group going to #1. Tom is now playing shirtless sporting a passable tan (http://www.urbanjunkies.com/lon/images/GHamltn-waynewilliams1982.jpg). I express concern that his striptease might continue to the thong stage, but Tom informs me that,

It's not underwear season.

Ski and I take two drives to get within 250' of the basket. :oLooking at a four (maybe ) I yellow Spider (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/spider.html) right at the basket, and then Ski Rockburn Rocs (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/roc.html) right at the basket. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Strolling up we see Skis disc laying right next to the basket for the drop in four :) while I am laying 12' away. Unfortunately Ski's Roc apparently nailed the grill to end up there, and gave up a big piece of itself to do so. :( On #2 Ski parks the basket for the deuce. :cool:On #3 Ski and I surround the basket for the deuce. :DOn #4 I get us 3/4 of the way up the hill, Ski then lands 10' from the basket, and makes the putt (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/aviarpna.html). Thanks to this run we pull away from Master &amp; Apprentice, and start wondering what Can You Putt? are doing. On #8 we meet and greet some wildlife. (http://www.amazilia.net/images/Herps/Snakes/Black_Rat_Snake_02.JPG) Standing on #9's tee we hear the foursome in the parking lot finished and toweling off. We lost some time looking for a Luke disc on #7 which we unfortunately never found. The other unfortunate occurence there was Ski and I wasting his drive (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/championSidewinder.html) and my approach (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/classicroc.html) after we both miss a 12' putt. :o Back on #9 Ski drives a Roc left, but it hits a tree on the tee side of the fairway, and then redirects itself across the street into the big opening and sails right past the basket landing 25' behind it.  Unaware that Can You Putt? are going to declare a scorecardless 53, I step up and nail the 25'er for the deuce :D and the one stroke victory for The Fearless Male Models! :DScores on the second nine were:

Fearless Male Models-26 (52)
Master &amp; Apprentice-30 (57)
Can You Putt?-? (53)
Middle Aged White Guys-? (59ish?)
The Scaredy Cats-999 (DNF)

Next week Ski tries to win for the fifth week in a row from the <font color="blue">blues. </font> Special accolades to the park who have continued to mow the outline Rich laid out, and they have cut circle greens around several holes on the front nine, and even made a small path and circle for #7. The good Dr.'s liason work and possibly our activity have had some impact on the staff. :)
