It's OK. It's a lot harder to get anything done than I thought it would be. I was young and still full of hopes and dreams when I got elected a year ago. There are some blind followers and regardless of what I say or how much sense I make, I can't get through. It's just easier to vote how their friends vote than to have to think. :mad:

wow I posted that first post in 2004 and I don't think I looked at it twice since then. I kind of like what you've done with the place. put up some nice pics and I'm astounded at the traffic on here. I saw someone asking about the 2005 fundraiser discs. well we're out of those but hey the new 2006 inncolors are here and I must say they are 500% better than last years. keep an eye out on ebay for some. I know some are going up there. sorry we didn't have them available for the melbourne open tourny but they came the monday after the pro leg. don't get me started as to why they weren't available for the open. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on this site and see what other mischief you folks are getting into. I would like to extend Discalibur's most heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to Melbourne to play. oh yea if you get a chance to look it up on the net see if you can find the story about someone trying to burn down the park the day after the pro leg. burned a good couple hundred acres of park land. luckily the Melbourne Fire Dept kept the fire out of the youth area and the golf course, but just barely.

wow thats crazy about the fire!! One of our local club members,Jeff Hellman made it to Melbourne and had a great time.He said he plans on making the trip in the years to come as well. :D

I remember him. don't think I got to talk to him but I did speak with Katie Stockham for a few minutes during the final 9 holes after the cut. its a pretty nice park and we try to make the course fairly difficult for the pro weekend of the tournament. everyone is welcome so we need more of you folks to make the trip as well. we had one guy play the am weekend from new jersey and he like it so much he came back down the next weekend and play in the pro leg as well. gotta love that.

Personal essay

Throughout the years I have experienced many situations that have sculpted my character to what it is today. Many of these experiences have come from playing Disc Golf where I have learned to be very patient as well as self control when a shot didn't go my way. This also taught me to not let the future negatively affect the present and it is better to focus on the present.

For the past two summers I have traveled to St. Louis where I worked for a disc manufacturer/retailer as well a travelling to large National Tour events on the weekend. During these two summers I had to take care of myself and this has also taught me a lot about how things operate in the "Real World". I also noticed that if you work hard and follow through on your tasks you will have more free time to yourself to have fun.

Hopefully all these experiences have prepared me to be as sucessful as possible in the future so that I can live an enjoyable life.

In the last few years I have started to focus on what I want to do in the future and what I truely want to do is become an Architect. I have already taken the 1st few steps towards reaching my goal including being accepted to the University of Houston's Architecture department. I am also going to start an internship in the fall at one of my good friends and mentor who owns his own Architecture firm.

During my high school career I have put forth great effort in my studies and it payed off with my graduating Magna Cum Laude and within the top 5% of my graduating class. The subject that I was most interested in was history and one of the most exciting things about history is learning of how different cultures used different methods in producing thier buildings. I was most interested in the Romans and thier use of the dome and vaulted ceilings in thier structures which increased thier aesthetic appeal as well at structural integrity.

After receiving my degree in Architecture I plan on working at GAD (Guillermo Avalos Design) which is based in Houston and offers its services to clients all over the Metropolitam area. In doing so I would be a benifit to the city as well as the GHBA and strive to advance the design of structures of all sizes within the city.

I appreciate your time and thank you for reviewing my credentials. If offered this scholarship I would use it with pride and strive to proof that your decision was a wise one.

ATTENTION ALL LADY DISC GOLFERS

OK, LISTEN UP LADIES. I am trying to help here. I am beginning to wonder if the ladies of disc golf really want to promote this sport or just gripe about the low numbers of women players. I have issued a challenge on other threads to help those who want to help themselves. RESULTS, the board went quiet. My wife and I are trying to build a disc golf resort near tulsa, oklahoma. We are not disc golfers but we love the sport and the disc golf community as a whole. We are absolutely putting our money where our mouth is. We have had the honor of having our course played by some very good women players, including Courtney Peavey and Valerie Jenkins. As newcomers to the sport, I do my research by surfing other clubs discussion boards and try to ascertain needs of the sport where we might be able to fill a niche. To that end, we are willing to host an all women's tournament with some substantial added money (depending on the number of entries). All I hear from women is their concern about the lack of competition or female competitors. It is obvious to me that we need to raise the bar for women in this sport. If there is genuine concern for this sport by enough ladies, then we are here to help you, ladies, raise the bar. If it is just a venue for negative comments then, count us out.
