View Full Version : PDGA National Tour DVD
I got the NT DVD yesterday.
I love it! I think everyone involved did a great job.
I really enjoy watching the pros. And its encouraging to see even the best throw a bad shot once in awhile :)
It really makes you hungry for warm weather (I'm in norther IN).
The only change I would like to see for the 2004 video, is giving a little more detailed description of each hole. I haven't played any of the courses in the video, so its hard for me to have a good idea what each hole is like. How 'bout shooting some video from a cherry-picker!
Whats everyone else think?
When did you order your DVD? I ordered back in November and am checking the mail everyday! I thought I had read that all previous orders had shipped and they were taking new orders. I figured it would've gotten to me by now especialy if it's shipping from Georgia and I'm in Mississippi. I can't wait to watch it; I've heard good things.

I really did enjoy the video. Possible ideas for furture videos I think would be to provide more of a detailed runthrough of some holes being played, maybe like a rolling video fromt he teepad to the fairyway! Also it would be really cool to have a way to say what kind of disc the player is throwing (brand, model) since in ball golf you know what club they are using. But overall a well put together dvd and worth viewing!

I to would like to know what they player is throwing and have been told that past DVD and VHS events don't have this usually due to who sponsors the tourney and/or video. Not sure if this is quite accurate, so someone please fill me in if you know anymore.

First, I want to preface this by saying that any video involving disc golf is a good thing. Having said that, I do have some criticisms of the NT DVD. I did study videography and film in college, so perhaps I have too critical of an eye or too high of a standard, so bear with me.
I understand the limitations of the people that put this together, both in financial terms and in man-power. I commend the effort wholeheartedly regardless.
Just some things that stuck out for me:
1. Individual event coverage was inconsistent. Some events had full-on final 9 coverage, while some others showed a few drives (sometimes repetatively) and reported the results. I'm sure it was the result of what kind of footage they were able to get at each event. Some events had at least 2 cameras covering the action (thus had more footage), while others appeared to have just one. Also, the courses played a role, some being more camera-friendly than others. Seneca being wooded didn't lend itself to the cameras, for example (but the Climo interview was good), while Golden State and Memorial were more open and had more site-line options and was probably easier to traverse quickly. Generally, this is very much a money issue, so I'm sure as the tour grows and more money becomes available, this will improve itself. In the meantime, I think a better approach would be to be even more selective of which events to film, and always have at least 2 cameras on site.
2. Too many shots of players watching their discs. Just a pet-peeve of mine from most of the many disc golf videos. There's only so many times I can watch Barry or Ken or Ron or Rico or Juliana or Des throw and then react to the flight of their disc. It seemed awkward that I had to take John's word for it whether the shot ended up good or bad (and since he wasn't at some of the events, I'd wager that he had to guess on a few of them). I'd much rather see the actual flight of the disc, even if the camera work is a bit shaky (which I'd imagine is why some of that kind of footage is left out of the final cut).
I thought the KC coverage was the best out of the bunch, especially being shot with just one camera. Whether the camera was behind the tee, on the fairway, or behind the basket, every shot followed the flight of the disc and you could get a good feel for how the hole was played. Other events lacked in that area, I thought.
Hopefully, nobody takes my criticisms the wrong way. I just wanted to offer some feedback that can make future videos even better.
I can't wait to see the '03 Worlds video. I'm sure it will be great, given the preview available online.

Great comments.
I love the idea of knowing the disc that is being thrown, I hope this happens on future videos.
It would be nice to have some info at the bottom of the screen for each drive and upshot:
Hole #, Approx distance to pin, disc being thrown
Someone give us some info on this issue of sponsorship vs. listing discs thrown.
Again, I think we all agree, this video is great! Thats why we are interested in offering ideas for improvements.

KC is just the best place to play disc golf in the country......I'm not biased though am I?
:p
I still have not seen all the videos, but I did see the KC portion, we saw a few things that I thought should have been different, but overall I thought it was good. Ruth's shot on #3 was awesome, to be there was better, her out driving all the field had to be a great feeling!
man, I gota get me one of these DVD's!!!
:p
Schmack Daddy, I've been admiring your animated logo for a while now. Did you make that yourself?
NO, I STOLE IT FROM OUR WEBSITE.....
**** capslock....
Not sure if larry did it, maybe Richard R., maybe a whole other person...
I'm going to try and make my own soon with Macromedia Fireworks.
I know this is probably a very dumb question, but again, I'm fairly new to this message board, how do you, where do you input an avitar?
Were any of Jonny B's visuals used on this DVD?
Has any one seen the DVD Jonny B made last year of the Memorial NT?
Does any one have a copy of this.
If so, is there any way I can have a copy.
The one I got from Jonny B is messed up (low quality CDs I think)
You can send me a PM to keep from changing the subject from the PDGA NT DVD.
