Congrats to Nolan and Clayton for their 2nd place finish at Texas State Doubles.....errrr.....i mean WORLD DOUBLES!
Only 20 teams showed up this year, and it was GREAT to see some ADGA players near the top. Hopefully one day the open division will have the 60+ teams that it use to have when it was held in Round Rock.
Good thing Baby-Hero kept me and my partner away(I didn't want to play in the mud anyways :D)

This week 2 ctp's went out courtesy of Discraft and me.
Women's Division = Laura Quattlebaum...won a sweet 1st run X-Avenger
Adv / Am / Rec division = Jason Chamberlain.......won a prize that wasn't even being offered :D
lauranovice
Jun 13 2005, 03:24 PM
Thanks John. Let me know if you can find any low weight, 150 range, discs by Discraft. The main reason I throw Innova is because I have a wienie arm that requires the lightest of plastics to get any distance.
my_hero
Jun 13 2005, 03:28 PM
I'll email Discraft right now, and copy and paste what you wrote above. Thanks, and great shot to earn a CTP against the fierce competition. :D

Jun 13 2005, 03:33 PM
We should have a reply soon.
WHAT!!!!!
The way I hear it, Jason got a DIFFERENT disc than was offered for the CTP and Laura won the Open women cash and Julie took the CTP ( some kind of trade off)?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
my_hero
Jun 13 2005, 05:07 PM
Oooops! :D
Yes, Laura won the ctp, and traded her disc for the $$$ that Juli won. I think Laura would have loved the disc, now it's Juli's to love. You should never give away the ctp in front of the person who is giving it away....it kind of stings a little....and could possibly hender my thoughts of offering another. However, if you know me, then you also know that the previous sentences were composed to waste time at work! :D
As for Jason, he said he was going to beat me up if he didn't get an Avenger........ :D:D:D

From the way I see it, John is just showing the real reason for the nickname "My hero". He is willing to work with the winners to get them the product they feel works best for them.
I won the CTP. Juli won the women's division Sunday morning. As stated in the post above, even the lower 160 weight is too heavy for me. John had mentioned he one a little heavier, but nothing lighter. Juli throws heavier plastic than I. So, Juli traded her cash win for my Discraft CTP win and is trying the 170 Avenger. She said she is looking forward to throwing it. I think she is moving toward Discraft only bag of plastic.
I was excited to win the CTP. I knew it was going to be Discraft. I am sorry I don't think anything 160 or heavier will do me any good. If Juli reports back to me that it was too understable for her, I will give it a throw.
The trade was my idea. At first Juli was just going to give me her winnings. She said to put them toward the baby. I had my 160 Avenger in hand. Then, I remembered John had mentioned that he had the heavier Avenger and Juli is trying out Discraft plastic. Thus, the trade.
Wow a little teasing and I get HUGE responses. I was just kidding you all!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?
I like them a lot... I throw them real far :D

John, I want to thank you for thr CTP's, we always enjoy playing for one. I have to really thank Laura for thinking of me, the avenger is a wonderful disc!!! I shot a 3 on hole 12 ,2 drives and a drop in putt ,YEA!!! the only other 3 I had on that hole took 2 drives and a 140 ft field ace. We ladies look out for each other ;)
Hey John ,if you can get some avengers in light plastic it will really help the girls out.
Thanks Discraft for another great disc!!!

Thanks for the comments y'all. Here's a glimpse of a reply to one of Laura's PM's to me.
Awww Laura.....
No worries. Really. I was extremely bored at work, and was looking for ways to raise my post count. What you do with your equipment is totally up to you. Looks like i'll have a few more light one's left to give you gals another shot next week.
I knew Juli would love it!
I also talked with Discraft on the phone this afternoon, and they are going to rummage through the warehouse looking for LIGHT stuff for the women of the ADGA. I think that "innova" comment of Laura's hit 'em hard.
Looking forward to giving the LADIES another shot at a light avenger next week. Did you hear that JASON CHAMBERLAIN.....The LADIES...... :D:p :p :p
We'll have something for the guys too, but it might not be as sweet. :p

Hey , Barb and Terrill Go Ching paid our renewals for the Adga club and we still dont have our cards. Whats the deal ???????????????????????????????????? Noe happty with the whole thing. I thought texas was a good thing.
sandalman
Aug 19 2005, 11:51 PM
texas is a good thing. posting the same stuff on every thread is not. have you asked terry directly? after you do, maybe you could post the same question on all of the paske partner doubles threads.
Sometimes we saddle ourselves with a self-oppressive principle or ideal that is so inflexible that, in isolated and sometimes irrelevant situations, we fail to take into consideration the costs vs. gain when it comes to "sticking to it". This can go to such extremes that when one thing happens that makes you angry with an individual or a few individuals, it becomes far too easy to go off on a tirade that threatens to alienate you from everyone around you.
One incident with myself, that comes to mind, happened at Z-Boaz. I was playing a mini with some other amateurs that wanted to take the game "pro level" serious, which I don't agree with at the AM level. I was inflexible in my desire to have fun and the result was a very irate card. (If you know who you are, this is a belated apology) I gained nothing and their play was adversely affected. They may not remember the incident, but I do to this day. All I had to do was quit having as much fun for that one round and just not play golf with them again. If this sounds like too much of a sacrifice to you, consider the loss vs. gain in that situation. Gain = nothing (the fun was already over) \vs.\ Loss = three guys that like to hang out with me in the parking lot (after the round of course). That price was too much to pay. And I have seen people lose far more than an acquaintance.
Too many times there is a failure to look at a situation and ask "Does it really matter" or "Is this issue worth the fracas" or, if IS actually relevant, "Am I attacking the correct person" or "Even though I believe I am right, who else may be adversely affected by my inflexibility".
Is the price of a small amount of pride or slight flexibility in principle worth losing something irreplaceable.

Or, it could just be the beer!
sandalman
Aug 23 2005, 02:02 PM
yes... i think we now have a winner! :D
I fail to see the relevance of the relationship statement but it is easy to tell which posts are well thought out and intelligently presented.
I, like many others as my brother indicates, have failed at times to choose the correct response to a certain situation. With the pre-determined outcome evident to any who observed the situation dispationately. Unfortunately, to not be able to disect a moment in time beforehand in order to make the correct choice every time, is human nature, thus the old saying "Hind sight is 20/20".
Each "human" is capable of mentally choosing correctly. Emotionally, we are not.
I'm sure that he had no intention of irritating anyone with his posts on several threads. Maybe he was just looking for the quickest response. The method used may have been incorrect, but it had the results desired even if it had some extra undesired ones. I read these posts and on each and every thread, there is a completely irrevelant issue posted, yet I do not see all of this determination to have a go at that person. Maybe it wasn't critical of anyone or anything which the respondant knew or liked. More than likely it was just as this one. An attempt to receive information with a mistaken sense that what you do is harmless and has no repercussions.
This non-issue can be ignored by simply skipping over the post if it does not have anything to do with you. This electronic beratement can cease. More than likely, the persons which this annoyed were friends who have received apologies, people who don't accept apologies or people whom can kiss his *...* and won't be getting apologies regardless. In either case, the issue is dead. The offending party has moved on. Why not follow?
sandalman
Aug 26 2005, 02:31 PM
why not follow?
gosh, its been three days since any posts on this topic, and now you resurrect it!
why not let it die? :D

OMELETTE
Let's use it in a sentence:
"I should pop yo <font>[I'm a potty-mouth!]</font> fo what you jus did, but omelette dis one slide."
Mostly the fact that I was pulled in to this thread unwillingly, being derided once again, should give me cause to respond, whether it be an hour or a year later.
I actually did not look at the date. :o

Change of Topic here....
I put this on the LODGA thread since I am from LODGA, but I am also going to put this on several other threads, so don't get upset if you see this several times.....
Some of you know that Kathy,my wife, and I are school teachers. School kids from the huricane evacuation are starting to show up at local schools with nothing but the clothes on their back and maybe, and I mean maybe, one set of extras. They have no school supplies, and lunch money is a problem. Some lunches are probably going to be taken care of through the local systems, but the others stuff is in desperate need.
Target is clearing out all of their school supplies at 30-50% off. If you have a chance, go by Target and spend about $10 dollars on paper, pens, pencils, markers and glue and then take it to the closest elementary, middle school or high school. If you have kids or grandkids that have out grown clothes take the extra clothes also. The counselors can give them to the kids. Some of the kids are staying with relatives others are in local hotels or shelters. You can also take it to to a shelter and they will give them out.
I also know that some of the local schools here in NISD are going to do clothes and school supplies drives, so be open to that. We are being told that some of these kids could be in our school systems until Christmas or longer.
Also, and this is on a more personal note...I am an animal lover and there are animals showing up at the local shelters that are being turned away because the shelters do not allow animals. If any of you are animal lovers also or just have a soft spot in your hearts for a dog or cat, contact yopur local Humane Shelter and volunteer to be a foster parent to these animals. All you have to do is keep these animals until the owners and the animals can get back home.
Thanks for your time and if you cannot do anything else, help a kid who wants to go to school. They need their lives to be as normal as possible.

Happy Birthday to PJ. Are mom and dad able to sleep through the night yet?
We got to sleep pretty good for the first 11 months or so. Pj has had an ear infection and wakes up every couple of hours then does not want to go back to sleep. But for the most part he has been a very good boy. He is learning really fast too. Points to people when you ask him where they are! Says Dada, Mama, Baba, something close to Andrew and can scream and wail with the best of them!

Charles has one of each for the girls division and the boys
Tony Bailey had a boy, Jackson
Can't think of anymore...but before long the juniors and masters divisions will be the only two needed.

Live Oak Ice Bowl Benefiting the Educational Disc Golf Experience
Saturday, January 27th in Live Oak, Texas
Pool House is at 7901 Shin Oak Dr in Live Oak, 78233 (Mapquest)
SIGN-UP PRIOR TO 8:30 (please, please, please)
Player Meeting @ 9:00
(2) Rounds of 18 for everybody
1st round for ranking
2nd round will be Nassau on each card (see below)
Pro $35
All Amateurs and Ladies $20 and will receive an Innova Disc
*$5 of every entry and raffle proceeds will go to the Educational Disc Golf Experience to help bring disc golf into the schools of Texas.
*We will also be donating food to the local food bank again this year so please bring dry goods and canned food. (Raffle tickets for food donations)
We have lots of CTP's and other fun planned. Innova Champion has sponsored a basket for the raffle again this year. Please bring anything else you would like to donate for the cause. Any unwanted Christmas gifts are also welcome as well. Come on Sonic Blade!
Looks like Texas Roadhouse and Sweet Leaf Tea are back on board for a terrific hot lunch for just a $5 donation that also goes to EDGE.
Nassau format worked great last year so we will do the same this year. Everyone plays a regular first round. Second round will see each card have a value placed on it. The better your first round is; the more value available to your second round card. Then, the Nassau second round will award the best score on your card for every six holes played and the total score for four chances to win prizes or money. Think of the second round as three mini rounds of six holes and an overall score award.
Come on out and have a great time for a great cause!

they already had it. i just learned they've been climbing out their bedroom windows to meet each other regularly for the last three months. ( they kinda took over my route for those Amy visits :D:D:D)
i think if we set up a 100' foot 18 hole course they might could get in under par. whatcha think? or maybe can Ryan can birdie #17 (old #4) at ke'Ohana... that would be a serious advantage for their team :)
btw, is it wierd that an imaginary course has "old" and "new" numbering???

Jan 18 2007, 12:07 PM
I heard Ryan's daddy's (whoever the lucky guy was) best score on "old" 4 was a double bogey.

Doc, u got a 4 year old????
We should hook up for a round, my 5 year old needs somebody to tag along with when we go throw. As long as your boy does not have a problem with mud, sticks, bugs and snakes they should get along just fine .
P.S.- if you are looking for a fun father/son activity , go to z-boaz when it's dry, walk the creek beds, tons of fossils out there . My boy loves to go fossil hunting .

I have taken him out to the course with me a couple of times. He is usually into throwing for about 3 minutes and then it's off to pick up leaves and sticks. He will throw at the basket in the back yard for a bit longer if someone is there to cheer him on.
He also has a wicked two-finger roller. I think it's better than mine! :D

Seabolt the Younger has a crazy 2finger, and i believe Drew Toolen does also, altho his backhand is big nowadays too.
maybe the 2 finger is a more natural/intuitive grip?
and i believe Drew Toolen does also, altho his backhand is big nowadays too.
Roo has quite the boomer , only problem is ( IMO ) I dont think he really cares.
Dalton Seaboldt is going to be one of those natural types. He was his schools star QB, holds the school record for field goal's/extra points as the kicker. Point guard for the b-ball team, kid's got game on the disc golf course. I believe he has recently put about 75-100 feet on his drives. With his dad keeping kis punk arse in check, he is going to grow up to be a really cool guy ( not that he is not already ) .
I cant wait untill my kids are his age. Kicking my arse up and down the fairways....

Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.
So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
Did you ever know that you're <font color="blue"> My_Hero </font> ,

I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,

I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.
Did you ever know that you're <font color="blue"> My_Hero </font> ?

Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,

The Texas Women’s Championship 2007 is April 21 & 22; we are interested in Texas club participation of this event. In the past clubs sponsored with merchandise and with man power. We want to see this continue. We want to challenge each club to send the most women from their area. We are trying to break the women only attendance record and what better place than Texas. We can use volunteers to escort, disc golf merchandise for ctps, a Texas size player packs, and anything surrounding lady golf. Something I would like to see our club sponsored girly stations. The club could pick a hole to set up a canopy with water, face wipes, candies and club hospitality towards the players.
The question is not if you are interested, but how you are interested in help.
Contact myself or Ed Coffey to work out the logistics. This is our ladies weekend…….So lets honor them with our support! Let us know your ideas, we maybe the tournament directors, but the event is Texas owned.

This brings up an interesting question. How many years was it to gain the 14,428 from the time the first Hero joined to the 2nd?

10019 was issued in this time frame:
9900 4/17/1995
10000* 7/26/1994
10100 2/22/1994
10200 6/24/1994
So the answer is 9.8 years! :D

John......how long did you wait to join the PDGA? I started playing in 1991, but I didn't join the PDGA until 1994.

Well, I thought I joined in 1994, but looking at the dates you posted above, maybe I joined in 1993...

JG, you have PM, and here's my story and i'm sticking to it. :D
I started playing "frisbee golf" at a summercamp in 1984. Neighborhood kids made our own little neighborhood object course and played it from 84 through graduating from Martin HS in 1991.
Went to College in Tulsa and saw/played a basketed course for the 1st time in 1992. Played 1x-2x times a month until moving back home in 1994. Found The Vet in 1995 and the rest is history.

So that's approx 1472 per year for the first 9.8 years and 2656 per year the last 3. Or a 50% increase in the Hero household and a 55% increase per year for the PDGA between Hero's.
Heros are impacting the population in more ways than one? You ought to do an over/under on the next Hero impact. :D

Lamoreaux, We all know that Mrs Hero has the straightest, silkiest hair ever, as do i. How could you pass those nasty genes down to such a sweet little girl? Looks like monkey hair to me!

Hey guys, sorry if this is off topic, but I've looked around elsewhere and couldn't find any answers, so I decided to ask you all instead. I'm currently a Houston disc golfer, but I'm moving to Dallas next week for residency and was wondering where you all buy your discs. I've always preferred getting my stuff in person rather than through an internet retailer, so are there any stores in the dfw/arlington/inving/carrolton area that you would recommend stopping by? Thanks in advance for any help.

Play It Again Sports in Carrollton has a huge selection, but you can still get most discs cheaper online somewere.

Ben,
Most of the clubs around town have their own merch for people to pick through. Just show up at any of the local mini's and plastic should be available.
MaceMan lives in Arlington and vends all over DFW. If you are looking for Discraft products, then as a Discraft Rep, i'm probably your best bet.
Welcome to DFW (when you get here) :D
The only discraft I currently throw is Predators, Meteors and Rogues. I occasionally pull out a Surge, but if you've got any of those other 3, I'd be happy to take some off your hands. I'll get back to you when I get into town and figure out the logistics. Thanks for your help. :D

and definately not to step on dancing belly boy, but I have some in's with being a Twisted Flyer rep and can pull any Innova you need and have a Gateway Rep in OKC for any of those needs..
John will be your guy if you end up on that side of DFW for Discraft.
Welcome soon to DFW...home of 30+ courses..maybe even 40+ now
Great, thanks! I'll be sure to look you guys up once I have a wish list and an OK from the wife.

I agree that the PIA in Carrollton (SW Corner of Midway and Trinity Mills, next to Nickelmania :) ) has a huge selection of discs. There is a PIA in Plano as well, owned by the guy (Melvin) who owned the now defunct Mesquite store.
Where are you taking your residency? What part of town are you looking at? Near where your wife is working? I am in N. Dallas, near LBJ and the Dallas North Tollway intersection. I don't get out much, that is, I play whenever somebody asks me to, but when you get in town and get settled, give me a shout!
Sounds good. Thanks for all the help, everyone. See you guys on the course. :)

I don't want to be a stick in the mud but I don't like any of them! What about the new memorial that is being put up I thought I it was going to be soldiers raising the flag to me that would look a lot better on some plastic! Just my own 02 cents.

I kind of like the logos for a general stamp for the ADGA. Jeremy E. is working on a design for the FHF07. I have the money put away for the discraft order for the FHF. We're going to go with their tournament special deal, with the Fullcolor discs and we'll order a bunch more stuff. I think Skip has the soldiers raising the basket stamp which is what I would like to use for the VPO. I think that stamp will look great with the fullcolor. And Mr. Kinter... <font color="orange">GO VOLS! </font>

That stamp would be good for bag tags. Not much detail to deal with on the engraving. And David... <font color="orange"> How long before Saban bolts from the pressure at Alabama? </font>
