View Full Version : New Rules regarding tour cards, C-tiers, and being a member

Nov 25 2003, 01:11 PM
Can someone please tell me about the new rules established for 2004.

Is this true:

1) Top 40 touring pros will receive CARDS that pre-register them at all A-tier and major tournaments. But, if they accept the card, they can't play any C-tiers?????????? Tell me that's not the case!

2) Non-PDGA members can no longer pay $5 and enter a PDGA sanctioned tournament????? You must be a member to play a sanctioned tournament?

I heard this for the first time last week and want someone to confirm it for me. And before I discuss my opinions on this matter, it would be good to know the truth.

Go to: 2004 PDGA Tour Information (http://www.pdga.com/documents/td/sanctioninfo.php) for answers.

I heard that the limitation on Tour Card Holders was rescended.

#1 was rescinded. #2 was to apply to B-tiers, and was also rescinded (still applies to A-tiers, and above).

Keep in mind that the old A, B, and C Tier names are a little misleading, kind of like the new Amateur Names. The difference is that both have been given a far greater degree of definition. C Tiers will be far more ambitious affairs than in the past.

Unfortunately there are A LOT of SoCal disc golfers that will mis-hear a rumour and spread it like fact. :(

Twas a good move to look for confirmation.

Other rules they did not adopt:

Jump putts: From outside ten meters you must have both feet in the air when you release the disc, and at least one foot must land closer to the basket than the mini.

Fairway run-ups: If a player announces before he attempts a fairway run-up that he intends to place his foot behind the mini, where he actually places his foot does not matter.

980+ rated amateurs: 980+ rated amateurs are banned from all PDGA events. They can either pay $50 for a pro card or get lost.

Rules are not up for revision for another year. Don't expect many changes.

Above 2-Meters will be discussed as will standards to either allow drots to count or further define what counts and what doesn't in terms of target standards. Should be interesting. I hope to beg borrow or steal my way in there by then... :o

I'm not sure about that, I'd say it's more human nature to hear a rumour and spread it....like Iraq has WMD.

And I too am glad to get confirmation on this. It would have been so stupid if 1st class players couldn't compete in a C-tier. Imagine the disappointment in the other players...Michael Jordan shows up to play, but isn't allowed!!!!

I think that was some of the original intent of the rule..

To prevent the equivalent of a roaming pool shark from coming into town, taking all of the locals egg money and skipping town.

When my rating goes above 980 I will definitely consider turning pro unless there's more financial incentive in winning every adv pot in sight :p.
