Need Success Stories

The United Flyers of Sonoma is working to bring a Disc Golf Course to Petaluma. The site we have focused on is approximately 100 yards wide and 3/4 of a mile long. This area is currently an urban separator that is plowed once a year for fire control. It will run in part behind 2 houses, and across the street from a number of homes. The south end of the course is bounded by an elementary school, the north end of the course is the site of a future Junior High School. We recently had a public meeting regarding the course where neighbors that were immediately across the street brought up everything they could think of to say NIMBY.
I am looking for success stories and endorsements where courses have been in residential areas and/or where the local club has worked well with schools.

You might want to go to the Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) (http://www.edgediscgolf.org) website and fill out an info request form. We'll send you a copy of the program prospectus and brochure. You can approach the school district about getting disc golf into their curriculum and maybe turn the neighbors around by showing that you are helping provide a positive activity for the young people in the area.

Your piece of land sounds just about right for an EDGE Park Course, and with good design would serve the school as well as your club.

Fly 18 has had a verry successful year openning 9 courses this year not all on golf courses.These courses are the most safest place you can play.You can feel safe about droping off your 10 year old an know they are safe.We are getting back to our roots where it all started.Change the venue change the results.In 3 to 5 years you will see a huge change in disc golf .Next year Fly 18 will be at the PGA show in Jan. to showcase our sport. At the show will be Ken Climo Juliana Korver Greg Hossfield and myself MC. This is a huge stepp.Come and enjoy a round at any of my courses and experience something different you will have lots to talk about.The future is being built by Fly 18 Thanks Reese :)
