View Full Version : Playing Pregnant

Nov 12 2003, 08:53 PM
This is my fourth year of playing disc golf. This past summer was my second year playing in a league. I and one other league player were both pregnent for the whole season and we both played pretty much the whole season. I am curious to hear about any other women who spent their pregnancies playing disc golf.

I think that playing for so long and keeping active throughout my pregnancy helped make pregnancy, labor, and delivery much easier than they may have otherwise been. For both of us in the league, labor lasted 10 hours or less (and for both of us this is the first child).

Now I wonder how being pregnant may have changed my game. I'm sure that I was somehow compensating for my increasing weight and waist size. Any other ladies with experiences like this? I'd love to hear your stories!!

My wife played a tournament at somewhere arouind 5-7 months, I can't rmember (It was 9 years ago)

Being athletic helps. My wife works out everyday. When she was pregnet, she swam, rode the bike (after she couldn't run anymore) and lifted weights. When pregnate with our second kid, she still did karate until her 7th month. (problems jumping up and down you know, at least you girls who have been pregnate know what I mean)

As far as Labor

1st kid, water broke at 7am, when to hospital, watched the Cowboy game on Thanksgiving day, pushed for a total of 15minuets starting at 8pm, 5 of which were spent looking for the doctor because he left after my wife started pushing.

2nd kid, labor pains at 3am just after finishing painting my 1st sons room. At hospital by 4am, baby born at 8am. My wife pushed 2 1/2 times. (BTW, they had to stop here contractions because the Dr. was not there yet.

It was funny, Dr. said to push. On the second push, the Dr. said STOP, the baby's head was already out. They had to do some cleaning up because my wifes water was broken by the doctor. On the next push, the baby just poped right out.

Now my sister on the other hand had to push for 3 1/2 hour for the 1st and 1 hour for her second.

We have a guy in Richmond who used to play pregnant. Well at least he looked pregnant. One day I asked him when the baby was due and it wasn't long after then that he started playing naked.

I never played Richmond...I swear!

My wife & I played mixed alternate shot doubles while pregant (7 mo's)at the Woodshed....we shot somewhere in
in the high 120's for 18 holes, but due to her large status we took cash for the "first pregnant round in Paw-paw".

Spence & Gabi Thruman owners of the Woodshed, basically had Asa James on hole #6 two years ago.

My wife "Holly" played in the Kearney Classic at 9 1/2 months. Had our first kid "Tyler" two weeks later. 9/23/03.
She ended up taking 1st in Intermediate.

If you want a pregnant story, I have one. I just had a baby girl, Lauren Marie in early September. The crazy thing about my story is that I never new I was pregnant until I went into labor. I was actually out playing a round when my water broke. I played pretty much every day all year until then. I played tournaments every weekend. I even went to the Am Worlds and couldn't figure out why my game sucked so bad when it became 110 degrees out and I was seeing spots....(I was about 8 mos at that time and didn't know it!) That explained everything when Lauren came along. Of course I don't get out much anymore but I really don't mind since it's so cold out now:)

If you don't mind me asking but how do you not know you are pregnant? You never felt the baby kick or move?

I was going to ask that same question (his first one). But forget about the baby kicking and moving. You didn't notice missing your period for eight months straight? On another note, congrats on your newborn. :D

I was at Worlds with you(Valkherie) and didn't notice a thing. I read that you had a baby in September and freaked. I even stared at your picture in Disc Golf World News and couldn't believe you were pregnant. Congrats on your future female disc golfer. Hey guys it happens.

I'm not sure how I failed to notice I was pregnant. I've never been regular so that didn't occur to me. I only went up one pant size so never gained too much weight, just thought i was gaining a little extra weight. I never felt the baby move, if I did, I probably just thought it was gas or something! She was 7lbs and 1/2 oz at birth. I never had morning sickness at all either. We were very lucky that she is as healthy as can be. And she is huge now! She's very long and weighs almost 16 lbs now. Her dad is 6'6" though so she has some growing to do:)
