View Full Version : Why is there never a "Final 9" for Advanced Players in Events?
As an advanced player I have wondered why we don't play a final 9 like the pros do. Why is this?I think it would be just as exciting and competetive as the Pros. Just wondering.

The DiscLanding Fall Finale, Oct 25-26 had a Final 9 for Advanced divisions, and they have them at Am Worlds.
Waller Pines Open in Santa Maria had a final-9 for Advanced and Intermediate in addition to Pro Open.

I have mixed feelings about a final 9 for the Advanced Divison. I benefitted from playing a final 9 at the Homie Fall Classic in Cedar Lake, IN. I picked up a 5 spots & finished in the top 10. They let the top 1/3 of the field play the final 9. That is the good. The bad is that I was not able to watch the Pro Final 9. There were some quality pros playing. I love to watch the pros. The more you get to see them, the more advanced players learn about the game & what it takes to make it pro.
speaking of the Homie classic, where can i get the scores of that tourny? was wanting to go but had to work, and was just interested in see who did what.

I would rather only see a final nine of pros, it gives the chance to see the pros unlike when you are playing with the Am's. It is an added benefit for the entire Am field to see the top people in the sport play on the courses.
And Sonny is just an entirely left brain based individual! ;)
During the Worlds it is good to see the final 9, because that is the competition that beat you, during regular events, I think that it is best to save the showcase for the top talent at the event!

At the Homie Fall Classic they had a camara crew follow around the lead groups of each division in the final 9, and then made a DVD to send out to the 4 players who played in each group. I think this was a great idea and hopefully more tournaments will start doing this!
At the end of the day. If you want the exposure of playing in front of people. Then step up and play Pro. Dude I have played in a Final 9 as an M10 and nobody watched. If you watch the X games for example these guys are all trying to be a Pro. Step up is all I'm saying. I am!
Can you play under pressure to get to a final nine or to finish first after a Final nine is what we are all practice for.

For that matter... Disclanding Fall Finale has a final 9 for every division, pro, pro women, adv., intermediate, and adv. women.

I hate final 9's.
As an average (and I use that word loosely) advanced golfer, I cash about 50% of the time.
I hate when I have a bad weekend and don't get to play that 4th round b/c of the final 9.
Just my 2 cents
