Jun 02 2003, 11:29 AM
Thanks Jeff

Jun 02 2003, 11:30 AM
It was fun seeing McCoy for the first time this year. Good Luck this weekend Kev.

Stewart had 8 strokes on me after the first round and I took 12 from him over the next 3 rounds. I will say Stewart putt pretty bad.

Sigh, another arse whuppin' by brad, let's see that makes my record against him 0-10 I think this year!

Wow do I know how to kill a player rating, if you wish to know how to do this, shoot me an e-mail!/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Tony what did you shoot for the tourney, good shootin'?

Jun 02 2003, 11:38 AM

Jun 02 2003, 12:24 PM

Saturday was about the all time worst conditions I have ever played in. Topped anything I have ever seen before. It must have been 35mph steady winds and gusts up to 50 . Some of the funniest things I have ever witnessed in golf on Saturday. Stewart on the first hole was about 20ft. away, tried to lay up (from 20ft. remember) and ended up taking a 7. He almost missed the five footer for the 7 too. The wind would literally pick your disc up off the ground and you would just watch it fly. Unbelievable to say the least. McCoy is a total bagger and should have been in Augusta. He played an unbelievable first round to get a 4-5 stroke lead and never looked back. He ended up winning by 6 to take $520 back on tour. PUNK....

Jun 02 2003, 01:24 PM
dayton was fun, my partner and I came back in the worst shot round and pulled out a tie for third. hope everyone had fun in trashtabula, sounds like Lorax did

Jun 02 2003, 01:53 PM
What you're saying brad is that you lost?

Jun 02 2003, 02:04 PM
I think he was saying it was HIS tourney to WIN, but one of those pesky golfers that plays every day beat him.

good going Tony, all that complaning at my house last weekend about not being able to beat Jeff must have paid off, or you used that sweet old school plastic that you got off of me to get some birdies

see you in T.O

Jun 02 2003, 05:30 PM
Schick is on fire this year. Brad is my skinny dark horse for the final 9 at Hambrick.

Jun 03 2003, 10:31 AM
Poor run
Poor weather
Bad decision on moving second round to a 12 hole course with mud and water every where, when there was a perfect 18 hole course with pads and good spot to have tournament central. They didn't even bring the Tournament stamped stuff like disc, shirts. They where selling them at the course the first day in really bad weather. The second day the weather was very nice and they had no Tournament stuff out the second day at all. It seemed to me that the two TDs where not getting along. Who ever made the decision for that second course was way off.
Bad weather
Bad Pay outs
Bad course the second day
Bad run event
I will have to skip this one next year

Jun 03 2003, 11:40 AM
Thanx `Jason do you kno if the sars scare (30 new cases after st Thomas tourney) is as bad on the island and where do I catch the ferry

Jun 03 2003, 11:46 AM
think i'm going to skip the brezee next year I fully agree with justfortheinfo/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jun 03 2003, 11:59 AM
Looks like it's open time for you, I shot 6. I did have a very bad first round with some very bad luck.(spits, rollaways, 100 foot kicks OB)

I only shot 1 stroke worse the second round when we played longer tees, and 60 MPH winds!

Jun 03 2003, 12:11 PM
JustFortheInfo,

What course had tee pads that were pretty good? When I just played there this weekend the 18 hole course had mud tee pads.....The course you say we should not have played had concrete Tee Pads.......

It's one thing to criticize, but it's another to slander. I don't think they could control the weather, last year it was perfect from what I was told.

I thought some things were bad also but that stuff comes with experience. Tony look at our monthlies, we still make bad decisions at monthlies by not spreading people out on holes! The club puts people on holes 1-6 and 15-18 and leaves holes 7-14 with nobody on them! That is one of the most rookie mistakes you can make and I don't see you bashing our monthlies.......

I would play it again because it can only get better.

Jun 03 2003, 12:31 PM
Call the monthly police, No ones on holes 7-14

Thanks paul!

Jun 03 2003, 01:05 PM
I did not even mention the wacky hole layout which was all screwed up. We walked all over that course looking for our hole to start on. I am saying if they took a little time to organized instead of taking our am payout and giving it to you pro really do $uck. We traveled just as far and paid a little less than the pros and got nothing for our winnings. The winner of the advance got a crappy bag and three DX disc and little trophy. There where 13 pros and 12 advance.
The pro winner got $520 and the Advance got $86 merchandise which did not even add up to that. What’s wrong here. Even the fifth place pros got more than the Top advance.
Booty you have a fun time next year at "Shoot the ams" the only Breeze there was coming out of the TDs mouth

Jun 03 2003, 01:36 PM
I didn't disagree with you on the money, I was stating that you are embellishing your story by misstating which course had concrete teepads, that is called slander.......

Not to mention you should edit this sentence a little:

"I am saying if they took a little time to organized instead of taking our am payout and giving it to you pro really do $uck."

What are you trying to say in that statement?

Jun 03 2003, 01:43 PM
Have some integrity and post under your real name before I bust you out, I know who you are. Have a spine and be a man.

Jun 03 2003, 01:45 PM
Justforinfo-How about trying some constructive critisism, before you go bashing people who i'm sure are good people trying to do a good thing.I'm sure some suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated, and could make for a better tourn. next year.Or just keep whining!

Jun 03 2003, 01:46 PM
Some of this [*****] is funny!

Jun 03 2003, 01:50 PM
Yes I too think the payout was week. They strech it out! The the Advance had 12, paid 6 spots 50% And the pros had 13 and paid 5 spots with the last pro getting more than the top advance. That doesn't work out. I have been seeing more of this going on in the Am divisions. I am glad someone is stepping up.

I think it is funny, and would love a monitor to come out and prove who it is so they can feel like crap. Clearly they know they shouldn't be speaking that way and do not want it traced back to them or they would post under their real name! What a punk! Ha Ha Ha

"OfficerBooty" is pretty funny there Paul! I laughed at that one. Dear Diary!

My job is Network Administrator, I guess you can say! Networking is a sweat thing. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

As a former TD of this event, and one of the people who worked on this year's Discraft STBO, I would like to comment.

As a relatively new club, we look for guidance when running an event, and welcome constructive criticism as a means to help us improve. Some of the comments about course layout, or tournament management can help us do just that.

However, the comments about the payout seem to ignore the fact that we gave out Elite Z discs and a custom mini to every AM player. All 42 AM's went away with something. It is true that the pro purse was larger, but this was not done with AM money, but with sponsorships and Pro registration fees. The following two items were in the PDGA's recommendations for running and event, and we followed PDGA payout tables for all divisions.
_______
6) Expenses

Try to keep expenses to a minimum. Touring pros are expecting to win money, so the goal should be to to pay out as much as paid as possible, without sinking you and your club into debt. Hopefully, many of the expenses can be covered through disc sales by the club. Also, sponsorship money should go directly into the tournament purse. Some events put ALL of the added sponsorship money into the Open division's purse...to try and get all of the top players to play in the same division. And MOST TD's DO NOT take their 15% cut. They "leave" it in the purse.

7) Players Packages

Treat these differently for pros and amateurs. If you have players packages for pros they should be donated. If financed from entry fees this can seriously erode the pro purse. Most touring pros like to see more money, not another tournament shirt. Not so with our amateur golfers. You may want to have players packages financed from entry fees for the Amateur divisions. It is better to give ALL amateur entrants something for their registration money and then award trophies to the top finishing amateurs. (If we reward the top amateurs with scads of discs we are effectively paying them with "plastic coins" that have an approximate $8-10 value. No wonder Ams don't go pro!) So DO NOT use pro entry fees to pay for a player's package but DO use the amateur entry fees to give each amateur some real value for their money.
____
We tried to do just what they recommended. If you have any further negative comments about the tourny, please email me directly, rather than air them here first. I would welcome the chance to address them, and improve our event next year. If you are not satisfied with my response, then go ahead and post a message. Sorry for the long posting, but I felt these comments should be addressed.

Mike, you know the one complaint many had was the drive to the courses. You guys did a fine job and followed PDGA recommendations with the payouts. The weather was out of your control and the other course was out of your control. You should just run two separate events next year and let Ashtabula have their event and let Warren have their event. Your volunteer help was excellent as usual (even with the weather) and the course looked great. See you next year Mike, just try to ignore them sandbaggin' AM's from Ohio! They will be pro next year. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Of course "sandbagging AM" is yet another "no profile" poster. Another reason I support a "PDGA members only get to post" stance here so that there is real accountability to what you say.

This website and message board aren't free. It's paid for with PDGA dues and fees. It is administered with PDGA volunteer hours that could go elsewhere. If you think that the internet is free and speech shouldn't be restricted, please go to alt.rec.disc and fight with the ulty-d00dz.

I'm all for free speech. But with accountability. Use yer frickin' name and a profile to post your complaints you cowards!

Jun 06 2003, 11:05 AM
As a complete outsider on this event, let me take a stab at this...

From the results posted earlier in the thread...the total payout value to the MA1 division = $271

Each player received an Elite Z disc and mini, so that's another $216 (12 X $18...conservative estimate of value of disc and mini)

$216 $271 = $487

Divide that by 12 players you get roughly $40 (actually $40.583333333)

So if the entry fee for MA1 was $40 (someone in the know can verify this), I'd say the payout was right on. And the spread of the payout over the top 50% was RIGHT on with the PDGA table for 12 Am players. Look for yourself (http://pdga.com/documents/td/03PayTables.pdf).

Just my observations as an unbiased outside observer.
