View Full Version : Live Oak Summer Open, PDGA B-tier, July 26-27
Time to share my big announcement with you folks who weren't able to get out to The Beast this past Sunday. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Hill Country Flyers is proud and extremely excited to announce another addition to our 2003 Evolution Series PDGA schedule. With the encouragement of the Live Oak crew and a tremendous commitment of support from the most DG friendly municipality in Texas, we have scheduled the 1st Annual Live Oak Summer Open for July 26-27, 2003.
That weekend is the final days of Am World's in KC. While its certain that Am World's will have its usual strong and competitive contingent from Texas, there are also a lot of people that can't work out the logistics or will have to miss AW '03 for some reason or another. There's also a group of some of the best Pros around in our fair state, who will be looking for something to do that weekend.
The Live Oak Summer Open will be held entirely in Live Oak and will make use of one of the most popular courses in Texas.
We've got big plans for this event and I'll be working hard over the next few weeks to hammer out some details that add the kind of value and fun to the tournament that I'd like HCF events to become known for.
Not a lot to tell about those things just yet (good things are worth waiting for /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ), but what I can tell you is this. We'll have 36 holes to work with and play four rounds of 18. Entries will be in line with what we've already done this year for our B-tiers. Our usual abundance of CTP's, raffle prizes, great payouts, great merchandise and plenty of surprises will make this annual event one not to be missed.
I'll get this to Brad and up on Titledisc ASAP. Entry forms that can be printed and mailed in the old fashioned way will also be on the website, hillcountryflyers.com, within the week (much work to do on the site, but it begins in earnest tomorrow). I'll also have entry forms at the 1st Sunday Lago Vista Minis and the 4th Sunday Waco Minis leading up to the event.
Please note the following very carefully. That's 4 different places to sign up and 3 months notice. With 36 holes, we'll have a lot of spots, but I can assure you guys, THIS EVENT WILL FILL. This is the first ever 2-day B-tier at one of Texas' disc golfers favorite courses and will be full of great reasons to show up and enjoy the weekend. DON'T WAIT TO SIGN UP. As soon as the entry forms go online and are made available at the HCF Minis (April 6th at Lago will be the first time we have 'em with us), please make a point to sign up if this is one you're going to be able to play. We don't want to turn folks away and even with 36 holes, we will fill. I don't know how else to say it.
More details will be coming down the line very soon so, as usual, STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

This sounds great... You have out done yourself again...Mark..
Is there another, super secret course in Live Oak RT???
Enquiring Minds want to know!!!!
/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Sounds great!!! Hopefully by then, the Baby and homelife will have stabilized enough, to be there to help out Mark, I'll give it a 90% chance....

I am still in SHOCK !!!!/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Cong, I'm guessing what RT is referring to is whether or not we'll be using the nice course in Universal City. The answer is no. Live Oak City Park will be the site of this event.
The City of Live Oak plans to install 36 permanent holes there. Unfortunately, they won't be ready for us by that date. We'll be using the layout of the 28 permanent holes they already have, a couple of modifications and a few cool temp holes and bingo, 36 great holes. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
You haven't missed anything, MV. We've just been kinda discussing it, but it got serious last week. I'm really happy for all my friends in Live Oak to get a shot at their home course during a 2 day B-tier.
If you haven't played Live Oak yet, you really oughta get down there before the event to see what all the fuss is about. May I suggest May 24, at the ZiegenBock Texas 10 Charity Tour stop in Live Oak. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif This has been one of the best events on that tour for 2 years running and I'm sure we can expect the same, if not more, this year. We'll be playing the same layout for the ZT10 there that the LOSO will use, so it'll be a good opportunity to see what you'll have to look forward to in June.
Can someone give me a LIIIIIVE OOOOOAAAAAAAKKKKK!
THAT'S what I was waiting for! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I just wanted to join in.
Thanks alot Atwood. Just because I say bunny slopes doesn't mean you need to schedule Live Oak during Kiss the Sky.
I told you that you shoulda scheduled Sipapu instead. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Hey, could you guys try to access my website and tell me if you can get to it? My tech support says its coming up just fine, but all kinds of weird things are going on on my end. (God, I hate messing with this crap.)

Mark, it's still not coming up url not found, I couldn't get on it the other day either
Crap! Thanks Ricky. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I can access the sight and it tells you what you could put in certain areas as you build your site.
That means some folks are getting it, but I still can't. Hey, at least that's progress. The server evidently went down today while I was in the process of getting rid of all that dummy text with some actual content. Did I mention that I abhor working on websites?
Its all good, though, and we'll be up and running this week (dammit!). /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Besides, I've got to have a place to put all the LOSO good news. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I'm still getting the "getting started guide". This happened last week also.../msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif
At least you can get to the page. I can't even do that. I've got some new pages to upload to replace all that dummy text, but I won't do that until I can connect to it.
I'm working on it though. The Man can't hold me down. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
YOUR LOGO IS THERE, THE EVENTS LINKS IN TOP RIGHT CORNER, (NOT UPDATED) AND THEN THE HOW TO GET STARTED STUFF.
LOADS FINE FOR ME.....
Then why are you yelling at me? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Evidently, the problem is my isp's isp. Sheesh! They're on it now and hopefully it'll get resolved in a couple of hours so I can begin uploading all the new pages.
I heard someone say Live Oak? or is it FFFFIIIIVVVVVEEEE SSSTTTTTTRRRROOOOOOOOKKKKKEEESSSSS!!!!!!!I'm there GO ROUND ROCK!!!!
Maybe we should ask the waitress at the 205 club in Victoria that question.
Hey you Victoria guys - take the roady and bring her with yall.
Alright, well, I'm finally able to get to the site and new pages are going up as we type. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Hopefully by the end of the night, we'll have some actual content worth visiting, as well as some helpful info to keep you all up to speed on the HCF goings on.
Back to work. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
It's about time/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Thx for your time

What does that mean?? Is it a big secret? Please tell me I don't like being out of the loop. You're starting to get just like Himing with this suspense crap/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
The Titledisc comment, Jason? It means........
Sign Up Early! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif (Thought you'd know that, shame on you. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif )
As for me being like Thunder as a TD, what's wrong with that? If I could just shoot like him, I'd be even happier. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
BTW, his is "More news soon." Mine is "STAY TUNED." Man, how different can you get? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'll be there...PLAYING. No suspense to that!
If anyone wants a place to stay I have plenty of room in the Outback. Then again sorry I don't I just remembered the twins are staying that weekend/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
See you there Jason and Ginetta.
Still hoping I'll have the new house and baby settled in enough, to go out of town for a weekend.
We'd love to have you, Cong. Tell momma I said hi and we hope all goes well for y'all.
Hey Mark A.!!!! hows it going. danielle and I are lookiong forward to playing lago this weekend.if I remember correctly you will be taking sign ups this sunday for LOSO.Is that still happening?
Absofreakinlutely! I'll have basic entry forms (still haven't completed the artwork) for LOSO, Coastal Clash (Corpus in Sept.) and Cold Turkey Classic (Bart in Austin in Nov.), with me at every mini from here on in, up to the last mini before each event.
I'm getting really excited about this tourney. I hope all you local guys there are excited too.
BTW, I need to make a trip into Live Oak sometime within the next couple of weeks. Would one of you guys down there refresh my memory on the days and times of your minis? I'd like to make it down on a day that I can actually play too. Are there any weekday minis or are they still only on Sundays? (My discs are starting to feel neglected and I love playing that course.) Thanks.

Live Oak mini's are every Sat at 9am..
Random Draw doubles...
And just to let you know! Schmidt holds a mini, Sun.. @ UC park at 9:30. Singles..then random draw afterward..
p.s. Im pretty sure you knew this allready /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Have a good weekend
Check with Brian because I saw him post something about Wedneday evenings also. I don't know if that has started yet.
R.T. has Russ gotten over Sunday yet?
Thanks RT. No singles minis at City Park? I think I remembered that Sundays was UC, but I was thinking there was something besides Sat. draw dubs. at City Park. Maybe what Darlene's referring to is something Brian's doing there and that might be what I was thinking of.
Anyway, if I get down there on a day there's no mini, maybe we could all hook up and actually PLAY golf. That would be a novel concept for me. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
hey mark, u have my # give me a call. i will play golf with ya
Will do, Joker.
I'll let all y'all know when I'm coming down and maybe we can get a round of Live Oak Herd Golf going. But someone's got to carry the Miller Lite cooler. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
(I may have to start pulling an extra cart just for that. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif )
There is a mini every Sunday at UC. It's singles. I think tee time is at 9:30. I won last week. I was the only girl and there were six guys in my division. Just had to gloat.

Hi All, Just wanted to let everyone know that there's no longer a "pending" by our sanctioning status. Our B-tier sanctioning has been approved and we're added to the PDGA calendar (thanks Brian).
Chris and I came into town the other day (sorry I didn't tell everyone but it just kind of worked out that way in an impromptu manner) and walked the course.
It was important to both of us that the same 36 hole layout be made available to the players of both the LOSO and the ZT10 on May 24 in Live Oak.
We managed to develop what we both think is gonna be a very enjoyable set of extra holes, using some of the ones the City of Live Oak has already used during their minis and some interesting creations of our own. The two circuits of 18 will loop together very nicely and will be well marked to eliminate any confusion.
Also, I should have some good news on a lunch sponsor and more news regarding the LOSO in a few days.
Entries are already rolling in off Titledisc.com and in the mail. This promises to be an exciting and very well attended event. Don't wait to get signed up.
And don't forget that your first shot at this 36 hole layout will be ZT10 Live Oak, May 24th.
Enquireing minds would still like the snail mail address?/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Marrrkkk,is there going to be doubles?
Sorry Chile, I've been out. Yes! Flex start 1-4 p.m. Friday July 25th, $10 per player, Pros get cash, Ams get plastic.
There 'ya go. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Thanks, Mark, you're up late. Brian, whats up?
That was p.m., not a.m. Chile. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif BTW, I got your entry in the mail yesterday. Got some more in off Titledisc.com in the last couple of days too. Hope folks don't wait until the last minute.
This is gonna really be a fun event.
Cool I'm offically IN./msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Chile, I'm in for doubles with you. Just moved to a new house, and just got internet back up today. You're welcome to stay!
Cool, Brian, doubles it is,and I'll bring some trunks for the pool.I'll be there on friday about 1-1:30.
Time to start focusing all my energy on the 1st Annual LOSO! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Texas Roadhouse will be the food vendor on both days for lunch at the course. Anyone who was at the the Live Oak Ice Bowl knows what great food they provided for lunch that day. They have a new manager and he's truly on board with Disc Golf and our event. No cold sandwiches for Evolution Series stop #3. Hot lunches with delicious sides for $5 a plate. That's better food for less than you'd spend at _______ (insert name of local burger joint here) and you don't have to make a trip away from the course. We thank Texas Roadhouse for being excited about their involvment with HCF.
In 12 days, you guys will get your first and only opportunity to see and play the 36-hole tourney layout before the LOSO. ZT10 #3 will have the same setup on May 24th, and I encourage all those who plan to play LOSO to take advantage of this opportunity. Some of the temp holes will be familiar to those who played ZT10 here last year and the Ice Bowl. There will also be some truly cool holes that you'll be seeing for the first time. Don't miss it.
Hotel info will be forthcoming within the next couple of days, as I'm still wrangling to get you guys the best rates possible.
We already have a bunch of pre-registrations, so don't wait. There's only two things that I hate doing as a TD. Number 1 is waiting until the last mintue to do something and Number 2 is turning players away from my events. Pre-registrations solve both of these issues and helps me to keep everyone happy.
Titledisc.com, snail mail and HCF Monthly Minis are all great pre-registration options.
Any questions, feel free to call 830-385-9682.
STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Is there an EARLY sign up list?? I'm in/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
I won't post a player list until we get a little closer Chile, but yes, you're in! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
If I can convince the Head of Household I will play. We will see how she enjoys hanging out in S.A. during the Z10 weekend. Mark as your hair grows back this summer your drives will get longer and longer and longer......
Actually, I'm already in need of a little trim.
...Ba dum bum...
Not sure yet, but it does not look good.
That's too bad Jerry, we should have a pretty strong Pro Master field. Hope you can make it.
I'm really excited since the only thing going on that weekend is supposed to be Am Worlds. We should get folks from all over the State, both Ams and Pros for this one. This is gonna be one event I wish I was playing in. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
The early weather report is in...
HOTTER THAN HELLLLL!!!!!
Im in. LIIIIVVVVVEEE OOOOOAAAAAKKKKKKK!!!
Yeah Wayne-O, I think that's a safe bet. Wish we could put a temp hole in that had the pool in the fairway. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Don't let the heat scare y'all though. We'll have water on the course and there's plenty of shade. Really.
ozdisc
May 15 2003, 12:42 PM
Plenty of shade if your in the rough! I always prefer to stay in the sunny fairways.

Greetings All,
I wanted to get this back up front since we’ve got just a little over a month to go. I’m getting really excited about the 1st Annual Live Oak Summer Open. Can’t wait to see all my friends from Liiiiive Ooooaaaakkk get a chance to kick some tail on their home course and to watch as people come from all over to try to keep ‘em from it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I’ve got a couple of announcements I’d like to make regarding the LOSO and the participation of a few of our sponsors.
First, as always, Innova-Champion Discs is on board with Hill Country Flyers and with this stage of Evolution 2003. As far as I know, LOSO is the first Texas event confirmed to be receiving a batch of the Candy Archangels, available only through select Innova sponsored events participating in the Candy Fundraising Program. Additionally, Innova has come through for each stage of our Evolution series with other goodies like portable DISCatcher Sports for the raffle and fridge magnet/bottle openers for the grabbing. I’m sure this stop along the way won’t be any different.
Also, we’ll have a massage therapist on hand to ease some of those aches and pains associated with a 2-day, 4-round event in the dead heat of the Texas summer. I mean, we’re from Texas so we can handle it, but a massage will still be nice. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Don’t worry about the heat either. We’re gonna have a few tents set up on the course for shade and we’ll have plenty of water available on the course to make sure that if you need an excuse, you’ll have to find something other than the temperature. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I’m working on putting together some great stuff for our soon to be famous Raffle O’ Wonder. Texas golfers and clubs have really come through on this all year and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun with it in Live Oak.
Anyone who would like to be involved as an individual or group sponsor/supporter of the LOSO, we still have plenty of ways for you to be involved and can help get the word out about your course/club/event in a professional manner. My number is 830-385-9682 or email to mark@hillcountryflyers.com.
I’ll be putting up a player list starting Monday and updating it as needed until the tourney. If you haven’t registered for what is certain to be one of the biggest turnouts in Texas in 2003, please go to Titledisc.com or request an entry form from me that you can mail in. I had numerous requests for these while I was away and I’ll be sending them to those folks via email in a word file that they can print out and send in the old fashioned way.
I’m really fired up about this event and I’m hearing from folks all over the state how excited they are too. I think its great that Texas golfers are gonna get to spend two days and four rounds in a town that’s so supportive of our sport as a whole.
More details soon so…STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Ahem...I said Candy Archangels. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Of course the total number available will be less by two. One for my wall and one to play with. This could be one of the sweetest Candy discs to hit the course. I've wanted one since the DX AA's came out. Thanks Dave. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Will there be any hotel deals?
read back....there already is, I thought....
archives often hold the pertinent info....
Mike, and all, the hotel deal is once again with our friends at LaQuinta Inn. The location at I-35 and Topperwein Rd. is close to the course and very nice. The rate of $55/night is about the cheapest summertime rate in the S.A. area imaginable, at least at anywhere that you'd want to stay. We're very happy to be working with this great company again and happy that corporately speaking, LaQuinta is on board with disc golf.
Call the Live Oak location directly (don't use the LaQuinta 800#) at 210-657-5500. Tell them that you're with the Live Oak Summer Open group and want the tournament rate of $55/night. This is a flat rate for up to four persons per room. The tournament rate is in their system now, so if you want a room, don't dally. Some folks have already called to reserve and more will be soon. Don't get left out. If you don't get one of these rooms, chances are you'll be paying considerably more for lodging in the area.
Before I forget, I had a few other announcements regarding LOSO that I wanted to share.
I'm holding in my hand one of the long awaited Candy Archangels and WOW, are they suhweet! I won't be selling any of them prior to LOSO, because they are for my players first. We also got in a beautiful batch of my favorite Candy Fundraiser from Innova, the most badass Teebird TL's. Both discs have the super cool Live Oak Summer Open stamp that in my opinion is the coolest candy stamp we've done so far. On the wall or in the bag, you're gonna want one of these.
We've also got color stamped flat top Rocs on the way, that are gonna look great and fly even better.
I'm happy to report that as promised, Innova has come through for our soon to be famous Raffle 'O Wonder. Our often imitated, but never duplicated, super-duper "Raffle 'O Wonder" will include the following items and even more:
Innova DISCatcher Sport portable basket
2003 USDGC CE Roc
Multi-disc Candy packages from HCF
ZT10 Merchandise
Some apparel from Tayloe's Twisted Tye Dyes
and
A few choice collectibles from my own collection
Plus much, much more, and all for $1 a try.
There are a few other goodies that we're planning on but I have to save some for the next few weeks. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
...so, as usual, STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Mark , don't forget to ask about the carts.
Mr. Rangel, you may certainly play. In fact, since you're one of those big arm guys, I've got something that might be fun for you planned.
We're gonna have a long drive contest, with one winner from the Am ranks and one from the Pros. There will be a cash bonus for the Pro winner and merchandise for the biggest Am arm.
We've got some other fun stuff in the works too. I'm trying really hard to be calm, but I'm ready to "Get It On!"
Seriously, if you're a disc golfer anywhere in what used to be Region 11 and you're not going to KC for Am Worlds, Live Oak, Texas is where you need to be on the last weekend of July.
It all starts with Friday Flex Dubs. Don't miss it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
No sweat, WYD, I'm all over it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Thanks Mark, I will be in KC to represent Texas.
the evolution of disc golf.
Atwood, I am emailing you,and hoping you get it this time. very cool idea about loso!
I'm calling out Jeffitta Ohnesorge and Stephena Brower. Either of you girls got game?
Wow Jeraldine, you sure you wanna do that? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
By the way, I've got a couple of announcements coming your way this week regarding LOSO, so, as usual...STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
(Here's a hint, one them has to do with Friday doubles.)
I smell gamey does that count!Mr. Little Man, I played last weekend in Hattiesburg Miss. and it was an awesome park. The course was short (so you might have had a chance)but maintained extremely well. They had inmates grooming the course, cooking lunch, bringing water out, too bad they couldn't help me do better than 5th. It was my first Southern Nationals and it was a lot of fun. I don't see anything wrong with kickin your arse on your new home course.
MARK, I will be coming, but pay pal and I do not get along well, can I pay when I get there or do you anticipate a full field?

Mark can I play just one day and use those scores for both days. I have a one day play / work limit/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

That some heavy smack for a life long Am there Jerald.
Hey Billy, my room is gonna be full but we'll find you something if you can't get or split a room of your own with the good folks at LaQuinta.
Which reminds me, you wanna partner up for doubles again? I don't play in my B-tiers when I'm supposed to be working, but that doesn't mean I won't throw down a little double action. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Jeraldine, I'm too dumb to be scared. You wanna call me out, go right ahead. Don't mess with me, I'm a state champ now. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Will probably do the hotel, bringin four players from cc. I might already have a partner not sure yet.I need to talk to you about coastal clash,Who's catering? We have a fellow flyer of plastic who is the manager of JOES CRAB SHACK, He would love to help out.

No Worky, or no Content? Its working fine, the webmaster just really s*ucks. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
You know how I always tell you guys not to wait? Well, I just got off the phone with the manager of the Live Oak La Quinta who told me that there are only 4 rooms (not counting mine) reserved so far for the LOSO. With 150 players virtually guaranteed to be in town over the weekend, alot more folks than that are gonna need lodging.
Here's the don't wait part. July 20th will be the cutoff date to get these rooms at this price and probably at all. Hotels in the San Antonio area in the summer are not only considerably more than $55/night for up to four people, but they're also pretty darn scarce.
Here's the number (don't use the 800 #) 210-657-5500. Tell them you're with the Live Oak Summer Open to get the rate, and, most importantly...Don't Wait!
BillyN, is his name RT? He owes me skins money /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

RT that's me..... What you talkin about Brian?.... I owe you no skins....Unless you are talking about someone else.. I know we are squared up on that ctp/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
No, this is an old Pro named RT who lived in SA for a while. It took me months to finally win skins on him, and then he left town without paying. He used to regularly take 18 skins off me. He is/was really good. You can see him on the video Disc Golf on the Edge. Big guy, long hair in a pony tail. He managed a crab shack here.
Paul, I'm at home today, and will be out throwing around this afternoon. Call my cell 210-884-3523.
Billy, got your call, thanks! I was just wanting to rib my old friend RT about the skins. $2 is not going to kill me! I understand he had to get out of town fast /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif BTW, this was 4-5 years ago!!!
You only have 12, count 'em 12 days left to get a room at the host hotel at our negotiated price. If you miss out on that deal, you'll certainly be paying more for a room, if you find a room at all. Please don't wait. You'll want to be able to be comfy on this warm and competitive weekend. Trust me. Here's the number to the La Quinta (don't use the 800 #) 210-657-5500. Tell them you're with the Live Oak Summer Open to get the rate.
As for my announcements, well I'm waiting on a call for one very important one, but here's the tidbit I promised last week.
I'm trying to line up the necessary portables to set up the City Hall course for use for Friday Flex Dubs. Everyone always seems to want to play the less familiar course in dubs on Friday to get a better feel for what's in store throughout the weekend. This can't always happen, but I plan to make it part of the LOSO experience. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
More later. STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'll let you know Billy, but it sounds good.
11Days and counting to reserve a room at the $55 rate at the La Quinta. I know its annoying to remind y'all everyday, but there's a reason. I'll bet money that no matter how many times I say it, someone will come up to me on the Friday before the event and ask me why the motel ran out of rooms and/or why they can't get our rate anymore. Any takers? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Its gonna be so hot that someone ought to get golf carts for us.
Oh, wait...I DID! /clipart/smile.gif
Here's the deal:
$38/Day for gas powered carts! If you want a cart for the 2nd biggest event in DG that weekend (Am World's getting the nod for top honors) and what promises to definitely be the hottest...literally...then I need to know quickly. There's a limited number of rental carts available and a reservation timeline we're working with. Call me at 830-385-9682 NO LATER THAN SATURDAY, JULY 20TH to reserve a cart. After the lessons I learned recently regarding the greatness of a golf cart on a hot day in Lubbock and about heat strokes yesterday in Temple, I can promise you that these things are worth their weight in gold on a hot day.
Saturday, July 20th is also the deadline to reserve a room at the La Quinta, our wonderful host hotel, at the rate of $55/night. Trust me folks, this is a bit more than I'm used to egtting for y'all, but evidently, its a pretty phenomal rate for the SA area in the summer. I've talked to places that, to be nice, we'll just say weren't quite up to our standards, that wanted $20-$25 a night more. Don't miss out on these rooms or this rate or you may be in for some unpleasantness concerning lodging for the LOSO. Call them directly at 210-657-5500. Tell them you're with the Live Oak Summer Open to get the rate.
Chile, I'm working on a players list right now just for you right now. BTW, I need you to call me. Use the above number.
Tom P. and Rica, you have entry forms coming your way via email. I had a list of some others that wanted these but I can't find it. If you were one of these folks or if you too want an emailed entry form, please let me know today at mark@hillcountryflyers.com.
LOSO's coming and its gonna freakin' ROCK!!!!!
Ummm...its beena while, but is the WHOLE course, motorized cart friendly? Havent been there since LAST years TX10, but it definately wasnt.
76 for a cart for both days huh????
I'm waiting....and why not advertise at Pease? send it and I'll print and post for 'ya, since you live out yonder /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Its the best price we could find from all the golf cart rentals in the area. I know $38 bucks a day is a lot of added expense on top of an out of town event, and I wouldn't be upset at anyone who thought that was too much for them. However, understand that we got you the best deal that we could and I hope you take advantage of it.
Cong, and others, there are a couple of holes that may not be completely cart friendly, but they're the exception, not the rule.
I highly recommend these. The tourney's not making a cent on these rentals, I just want as many carts as possible out on the course for safety and comfort.
The Cart List (still putting together the players list Chile, which I'll have up before I go to bed tonight).

Ya I know Mark I was shaking, I'm so stoked, Thanks again Hill Country Flyers.
I was talking about my spelling, not yours, bud.
HCF is proud to announce that Jerry "El Chile" Perez is the first of three players to receive Hill Country Flyers sponsorship.
On the golf course and off, Jerry exemplifies the competitive spirit that we all strive for while at the same time never losing sight of how much fun this game is supposed to be. As one of the top Pro Masters in Texas, I'm not sure that there's much HCF can add to Jerry's game that he doesn't already have. However, we are proud to be associated with such a good guy and a fine golfer.
There are two other HCF sponsorship spots under review and an announcement will be forthcoming regarding those individuals.

Its not 100% foolproof. There are a couple of others who need to be on it and one who's injured and won't be playing. There are still others who have said they'll be registering this week on Titledisc.com.
I cannot stress enough how big of a part you can play in helping things to run more smoothly by registering early on Titledisc.
Remember, we also have limited time for finalizing reservations for golf carts and rooms at our reduced rate. This coming Saturday is the deadline for both.

Jul 16 2003, 01:34 PM
Is doubles going to be 36 holes?
No Lou, just the 18 of the City Hall course. I believe this is the course that uses the most temp holes so that folks playing doubles will get a chance to play more of the holes they haven't seen as much of.
Just got off the phone with the manager of the La Quinta where we'll be staying. There's gonna be 150 disc golfers in Live Oak for a weekend. I'd hate to see anyone sleeping on a floor or in a car that didn't have to be. That's no way to get your rest before a big tourney.
These rooms at these rates will be gone on Saturday July 20th (that's 4 days). If you don't make a reservation, you're gonna have a hard time finding a room at all, much less one for $55/night in the SA area. Trust me on this one folks. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Call them directly at 210-657-5500 and ask for the Live Oak Summer Open rate.

Jul 16 2003, 02:00 PM
I booked a room last night and before I told them I was with the tournament they quoted me $105.99 per night. So I guess I got a good deal at $55 per night.
Why can't we play 36 holes for doubles/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I'm confused, which course is the City Hall. Is that Live Oak or Universal? Thanks
Rica, you're absolutely right. YOU ARE CONFUSED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
We're not using Universal City, silly man. Thus the whole "Play the ZT10 and see the temp holes and the LOSO layout," talk. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
We've got some great temp holes to go along with the 28 permanent basket placements to make two seperate circuits of 18 holes each, right there in beautiful Live Oak City Park.
The City Hall Course is the layout that utilizes the permanent holes on the other side of the street. I think its permanent holes #18-#22. Is that right? Locals? Bueller?
Thanks, I didn't think Uni. was going to be played.
So I missed out...boo hoo.

<FONT SIZE=" 2">Calling Mark Vargas</FONT>... E-mail me.. Are we gonna still practice those temp holes this weekend, with are baskets?
CHEATERS!!!!!
/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Mark, A suggestion for water on the course during LOSO. Don't use whatever was used at T10 this year. It was absolutely terrible. It(water) may have come from the new fountain that's next to the big tree with a bench built all around it? New pipes may have been the culprit?
Duly noted. I will personally taste test the water to insure its drinkability. I'd rather be taste testing the beer, but whatever sacrifice I need to make for my players I'm willing to do it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Seriously, I'll try to make sure the water is fine and that there's enough of it on the course.
Also, The local Live Oak Lions Club, as they have in the past, will be roaming the course with drinks and candy bars for sale. One of the neat things about the support we get from the Lions is that they turn around and put some of the money they make back into course improvements at the park. They will also be set up and serving Breakfast Tacos to help get us going.
Don't forget, we'll have a massage therapist working between rounds both days. That's not just for us old farts either. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
whats here name??? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'm proud to announce that at the request of many of the players at my tournaments, our tourney stamped material available for sale and/or payout at LOSO will include some of the absolute best that Discraft has to offer these days. We will have full color stamped clear Z-Wasps, beautiful color stamped "white" Elite-X Challengers (can't wait to see those) and some color stamped X-Wildcats. This is in addition to a full selection of Discraft products, which we always have available at every tourney and monthly mini.
I'd like to welcome Discraft aboard for the Evolution Series and I look forward to continuing to carry a great selection of their products for my players.

Great Move Mark. Nothing like a Company as fine as that one backing your efforts to add a little credibility to your event. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

wrong J.D.
Not sure if I can commit to doubles, Billy. If I do get to play (which I'd really like to do) I won't know until I see how things are going at the course on Friday. I don't want you to have to wait that long to find a partner.
Of course, we worked pretty well together last time, huh? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I'm in to Jerry, for the division that is.../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Yes Tom I seen that /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif I know of at least 5 so far waiting to see which San Antonio master players are playing. I do not expect any masters players from Houston/msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif and the same goes for Dallas/msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif we could have as many as 10 in our division.
Hi all, I'm headed to the home of A-Rod, Juan Gone, Raffy, Hank and Tex in just a bit. If anyone needs me for LOSO related items, call the cell at 830-385-9682.
Please, if you're going to want to get a room at a great rate and close to the course, don't forget that tomorrow is the absolute last day to get our tournament rate at the La Quinta. Call 210-657-5500 and ask for the Live Oak Summer Open group rate. You'll be glad you did when you hear some of the other players talk next weekend about how hard it was to get a room and how much they paid.
BTW, Jimmy Castillo from Temple is looking to split the costs of a room.
Just got off the phone with Joe at the City of Live Oak and I'm pleased to announce that HCF is sponsoring a free entry to the LOSO at this week's Live Oak mini that he runs. It will be a CTP and can be for anyone in any division. Not sure about the details on the minis that the City runs, but I'm sure some of the locals can fill in that blank.
In case anyone needs or wants one, I'll have LOSO entry forms with me in Arlington at Veterans for the Farenheit Fling. See you Arlingtonians in a few hours. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
