View Full Version : 2003 Bowling Green Open (AM -"A" tier Pro-"XC" tier
It is allmost time for the Bowling Green Open Supertour. You can visit www.bgdiscgolf.com (http://www.bgdiscgolf.com) (click on Open link) for info and pre-registered list. You can also visit here for scores updated on Sat. & and Sun. night. We had 204 players last year and hope for the same or better this year. So tell all your buddies and make plans now.
Once again we should have nice players packages. We also will have a flymart, putting contest, live band and food provided Sat. night at players party. I hope to see you all here.
We will not fill up - registration ends Friday April 4th approx. 9:00 P.M. at the Plaza Hotel. There will be no Sat. sign up.
Sorry didn't put the dates in there. It is April 5th-6th.
Hey Larry I was wondering if there is some thing going on locally. A couple buddies and me are planning on coming down for some practice soon on some of the courses there, and were hoping for some local action./msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
We have pro-am doubles on Sundays at Lovers Lane at 2:00. It is $5.00 with at least $100 ace pool.
Hey Jon Jon. Long time no talk! I have been watching the West coast Tour. Man I am Missing it,/msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif and the 12 months of short weather.
Thanks Larry! A couple of friends and I are coming down for some practice. Looking forward to meet with some locals. Maybe on Sunday Dubs /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Paul Jay are you going this one?
Allmost 3 weeks away. For anyone wondering about us filling up. While it would be great to think that. We will use 4 courses so we can take up to 360 players. Anyone should be able to come and sign up on Friday night. You will find that if you pre-register that you will be able to check-n quicker. That is the benefit of pre-registering. Any questions email me.
hi, I'm trying to get to the tourney this year. Its gonna be a tight squeeze. Can any locals suggest a cheap hotel or a good campground nearby? Thanks and I'm looking forward to golfing in Kentucky.

Paul,
There's a KOA campground in BG that isn't that far from the host hotel (assuming it's the same hotel that it was 2 years ago).
http://www.koakampgrounds.com/where/ky/17139.htm
Plenty of golfers tend to stay there.
--Josh
The Host hotel is the same as last year. The Holiday INN Plaza it is located about 2 miles from the interstate. It is about 5 min from the camping area and no more than 15 min from any of the courses. KOA is a nice camp ground with Griffin Park only 1 min away. That course it now back in and is fun to play even though we won't be playing it for the tourney.

about the National Tour in May, i want to make sure that it starts on Saturday the 17th and not Friday the 16th? i heard some info that i hope is wrong that all the NT's were 3 day events with only one round a day. looking forward to representing louisiana for the 5th year in a row at my favorite tournament!
No all NT events are not 3 days. It is a 2 day event with 4 rounds played on 4 courses just as it has been in the past. Check out www.bgdiscgolf.com (http://www.bgdiscgolf.com) for more info.

Are the Advanced men going to play the same layout as last year, that is long #10 at Hobson, and short tees at Keraikes? Looks like I get no practice days this year so I will be practicing at home from memory. Thanks.
Heard there's some OKIES heading your way!
At Hobson we will play long 10 since we have a short 18. At Kereiakes I am thinking of adding a couple of the long holes to make it a little better. I would say Long 1 or 10 will be used and most likely Long 2 and the basket will be in the long position on # 5 & 16. Glad to hear the Okies are coming /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Mr.Nelson, as of now my carpool buddies have backed out. I need a ride, so if you know ANYONE from the Triangle that is going, and how to get in touch with them (Ed and Chris, maybe?), it would be a great help. Otherwise, I might have to gear up "Ol' Bessy" for an uncomfortable solo ride. Email me...THANKS!

Bert Williams...I'm flying in from Florida (yes, I'm from High Point)to Louisville, KY on Friday 4/4 landing around noon. I'm renting a car and driving down to BG to practice. I have a hotel room at the Plaza. You are welcome to stay with me. Pager 877-591-0353
Hi all. I'm driving solo from Va. Beach. I'll be in BG late Thur. If anyone would like to share a hotel room or campsite please email me. A question for the locals, What are the good spots to grab a bite to eat and are there any cool clubs in BG? I'll be driving through West Va, does anyone have input regarding "must play" or "stay away from" courses in KY or WV? Thanks /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Gary, thanks for your help-I'll look you up at the Plaza. Have a safe trip!
Debo, I live in Greenville,NC approx. 1.5 hr east of Raleigh. Where are you?
I am in Baltimore, but maybe you could hook up with Paul from VA Beach.
Debo..thank you, I got the disc back and it is lovely. I'm leaving early Thur and expect to be in BG by Thur night. Thanks John for the course tip and hopefully I'll represent a little stronger this year. Safe travel wishes for all....ROAD TRIP!!!!!!
We got a place at the Plaza if you need a place.
Just some info for those that might be thinking about coming. We have plenty of room and you can sign up or renew you PDGA membership when you Register or Check-N on Friday night. There are no Sat. registrations. If you think you might not make it here in time please contact me and I will see what I can do for you. l.bledsoe@insightbb.com
See everyone this weekend.
Quite a few okies heading that way on Thursday. Which course or courses should we practice on if we are only able to play one or two courses on friday. I would like to get a look at the toughest layouts before the tourney starts.
Not like it will help me or anything I would just like to know.

Ditto on that. Any help from the locals would be greatly appreciated by travelers from OK. Although I'm not sure that Shaggy's the one that needs help the most. I've got the spot reserved for biggest meltdown.
Shag- When are you guys leaving on Friday?
I would recommend playing Hobson it is short overall but tight and wooded. If played well it can give you a good headstart. I would play Kereiekes next since it has nice mix of shots and a lot of disc catching trees. Lovers is a very nice course as well but not as technical as Kereiakes. White which is are newest course is pretty much wide open. There are a lot of trees planted but they are small.
Cya on Friday
Ben,
Shaggy and I are probably leaving around 7 p.m. on Thursday night. We will probably drive straight through so we should arrive EARLY on Friday.
What is the name of the campground you are staying in St. Louis? Let me know and we may stop there and set up camp too.
This is gonna' be fun!!

Tom,
We're gonna try to stay at Meramec State Park, but they close the gates at 10, so we may not even make it by then. I think I'll see if I can find a KOA around there, but we may just set up camp on I-44 somewhere. If that's the case, you'll probably smell the herbal essence as you drive by, so you can find us that way. Are you guys gonna have a phone?
Thanks for the info Larry, we will see you friday.
Bap we are not civilized enough to be in possesion of a cell phone for this trip. So we may just have to meet up at the KOA in BG Friday morning. See you there.

I'm so excited, I could [*****]!! See y'all bright and early!
!!! 242 !!! Well it is offical. This will be the biggest Bowling Green Am Tournament Ever. We have 242 total players that have signed up or checked in for the event. There are 146 Adv Men alone.
I thank all that came and sorry for all that had to miss out. You will be able to check www.bgdiscgolf.com (http://www.bgdiscgolf.com) for the scores. I will post them shortly after the completion of the 2nd round. With this # of players give me a little time. Thanks again.
Yeah sorry for anyone that checked an saw the names weren't there. I uploaded the wrong file. There are up know. www.bgdiscgolf.com (http://www.bgdiscgolf.com)
!!! 246 final total (153 adv men) !!!
Hey Sailor... wtg... nice playing.. bring it on home... Good luck to you and Sandy..
Keep up the good work...
Well the event is over. I want to thank all those that attended and help run a huge tournament. The day was long due to cool weather a soon rain that came in before our final round. I want to appoligize for the time it took to get everyone out of here but with 246 players it does take a bit of time. I hope everyone had fun and look forward to seeing everyone next year. The final scores are posted. www.bgdiscgolf.com (http://www.bgdiscgolf.com) I will change the format for better viewing at a later date. I have to recoupe before going to work tonight. Once again thanks all.

Pros play in National Tour in May, although they did have an X-Tier pro this weekend, but probably not putting results of that one on there.
I will change that shortly. I don't have the results of the Pro "XC" that was run. There were 15 players and HB Clark ran that event. I will put something up once I get info from him. The main pro event is not till May.
I had a great time at my first PDGA event. Bowling Green is a great town with lots of disc golf. Great jobs by the TDs. I hope to get up that way again.
I threw together a quick little table with positional finishes. I only did advanced, but if anybody wants, I can do the rest.

Thanks for everything, Larry. Definitely a top notch show you put on. Lovers Lane rules!!!! It's bee-yoo-tee-ful!
Thanks for the cheer, there, Lisa! Sorry I had to fall apart on Sunday. It just wouldn't be me otherwise.
Sorry I didn't get back to you, Bert. I was so busy getting stuff ready I didn't even check the board. Dangit.
Mike
Great show Larry and all of BG. If you could have controlled the weather it would have been perfect. The pros will have a fun time with all of the OB's at White. Thanks again and will see you this weekend in Nashville.
Good seeing you again Mike sorry we did not get a chance to talk or play together. Hope to see you around.
Thanx for a wonderful, but painful weekend!
Indeed, Steve. I've still got a 169g Z-XS with a Big Valley Challenge stamp on it for ya'. I'll get it to you one of these days./msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Im trying to find a course map of the four courses used in the Bowling Green Open: White, Hobson, Keriakas(SP?) and Lovers. Please let me know if one is posted anywhere I can print them out. Thinking of playing this spring.
Thanks!
PS
Might be a good idea to put on the Bowling Green Club web site.

Joe, I don't know where you can download them, but I have the tournament program from last year that has them in it, I'll see about scanning them and emailing them to you.
You should definitely go to this tournament if possible. 4 great courses and a very well run event.
I appreciate it. If it is too much trouble don't worry about it. I might be able to track down a local golfer that went last year.
I was hoping for something easy I could go to.

If I may make a suggestion... So long as you are comfortable with your aim (on drives) and putting, the best thing you can do to prepare for BG is to throw and putt in CRAZY wind. Every year I see a BUNCH of strokes lost at White because the wind is ALWAYS kicking there. And I mean try putting into 30 mph headwinds. Hobson is short finesse, Keraikes is all about aim, and Lover's is about 35% aim and the rest wind (all in my humble opinion). Good luck and I hope to see you there!
Ben, I just sent an e-mail, hopefully you got it.
Tafe, wind sounds like fun! I don't know anyone that actually has success putting in 30mph wind. Sounds like heavy firebirds to the rescue for drives, and playing safe and smart around the greens.
Hope to see you both in about 2-3 months.
