Awesome Dana! Thanks for running this event. It's like a big family reunion in Athens every year. However, 96 holes is way too much golf!

Save me a spot. Is there anywhere to park a camper/trailer near the park ?
This is an awesome tourament! I had so much fun last year and I am sure to have just as much, if not more, fun this year! Thanks Dana for running this event!
I'm in, as long as beat Myhero
The good news is you won't have to play 96 holes. If we max out and make the cut, you're looking at 24 24 24 18= ONLY 90 holes. 72 holes if you don't make the cut.
Hey, it's a short course. Throw well and you won't have to throw as many times. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif I would love to chat, but I've got a lot of work to do. I'm going to try to get the web site together this weekend.

96....90 What's the difference? I can't wait! I'll be tired afterwards, but it's always worth it./msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif Thanks Dana.
GEORGE! Take it easy on me this year/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
96-90 = 6 /clipart/lame.gif
If there's only 105 players, we could cut it back to 21,21,21,18 = 81. You wouldn't even need to bring your cane, then.
Dana, what holes would be the alts if it were only 21 holes? Better yet, will 15A be there no matter what?
Oh and btw..24,24,24,18 at Caine Park is nowhere near as brutal as the 3 rounds at VPO.

Dana, make sure you set it up on Titledisc.com so we can register for this event. Hopefully I can take the time off and play.
Sweet Dana. I can't wait. Last years Paul Giles Memorial tournament was my first tournament ever. (Remember, I cut my foot BAD in the nasty pond?)
I can't wait to see how different my scores are this year. ;-)
~Jt
Scott, 15A, Definitely. By far, it's the most talked about hole on the course. On one round, we may have 6 alts, combine 7&8, and skip a couple holes. I need to figure a way to get the Ziggy hole in there. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I just updated the web site an hour ago and I've signed up for Titledisc; just waiting for him to get back to me. Now to get the mailer ready.
Oh, yes, we're having a Disc Show this year.
http://www.texramp.net/~dbell/discgolf/pgm.html
Dana,
Do you still have discs for sale? I need a few discs in order to play some upcoming tourneys. I throw mostly Innova, I was thinking a couple of teebirds, valkyrie's and aviars. Maybe I could come by your house this week if that's ok. Also, do you have a picture or logo your putting on this years Paul Giles Memorial discs? I could probably come up with something if you'd like suggestions.
All the disc in the world can't save you from certain doom. !@#$%^ ME !@#$%^&*
Ron, I'll email about the discs. On the logo, I'm always looking for a better idea. Ooops, I hope I didn't use someone else slogan. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I'll probably use the fatman/stickman/manwithdisc logo as a part of it. I thought about using the truck. Everyone at Lindsey knew Paul by his red truck. When that one burned up, he got another red truck.
P.S. You shouldn't threaten George like that. /clipart/smile.gif
Hey Dana,
Won't be able to play in this one this year but I will be there to help out any way possible. Just let me know what you need me to do! Sorry I missed the meeting. Had a class. David will probablly still play. Not sure though. We'll see!
Okay, here's my long spill about the tournament... and disc show.
Announcing . . .
Paul Giles Memorial
Tournament & Disc Show
April 26, 27, 2003
Cain Park, Athens, Texas, USA
PDGA B-tier
The last two years in Athens have been great. The East Texas Open - First Run in 2001 was a big success in several ways. We had a big turnout (106 players), great weather and I learned a lot. Last year's Paul Giles Memorial was better. We had 128 players on the course and more great weather. I'm hoping this year's tournament will be even better.
-Format
We will have 3 rounds of 21-24 holes each, and a cut for the final round of 18 holes. This will take a little less time, but you still have plenty of golf. The field will be limited to 120 players, but if you don't get in, you can stay for the show.
-Disc Show
This year's tourney will also present our first Disc Show. Much like other "shows", the Disc Show is where you can bring your discs and lay them out for sale or trade to other players, or to just show them off. The saturday show will be between the 1st and 2nd rounds, approximately between 12:00 - 2:30. Some players or vendors may be "open for business" at other times throughout the tournament. The sunday show will follow the awards. Even if you can't play, you may be able to find some good deals on discs or disc golf paraphernalia someone else has there.
-Visit us
The web site is up. You can get to it at http://www.texramp.net/~dbell/discgolf/pgm.html
If you forget, you can search for "Paul Giles Memorial" on Yahoo.com. It was on the top of the list when I searched.
If you think you're coming, let me know and I'll add your name to the player list on the web site; even if you don't pre-regiser. That'll let others know who's going to be there.
-Sponsors
Some of the sponsors for this event have included Everything Disc Golf, Chain Reaction, DBS Graphics, East Texas Disc Golf and Bob's, Arlington Disc Golf Association, Dallas Disc Golf, Lightning Discs, Dave Tayloe, Team H.E.A.D and SkySouth. I'm ready to add more to the list.
-Be an Individual Sponsor
Wanna get your name on the back of the PGM T-shirt -- You can! For $20 you can be listed with other individual sponsors. Just add it to your entry fee. If you have a business, want a logo, or want to make a statement, you can do that too. For $50 and up, call or email me. You don't have to have big bucks to be a tournament sponsor.
-Divisions Available
As before, we will have divisions for any division for which there are 3 or more players. Women's divisions for 2 or more players. Divisions will be decided the day of the tournament, but we have to order trophies in advance. We will only order trophies for divisions that we expect to make at that time. Just another reason to pre-register and get folks to come in your division. We anticipate Pro Open, Pro Grandmaster, Pro Master, Advanced, Advanced Master, Intermediate, Novice, Junior and one or more Women's divisions.
-Registration
Open/Pro $62
Pro Women $62
Pro Master $52
Pro Grandmaster $52
All Advanced $42
All Intermediate $32
All Novice $22
Junior $22
Junior < 13 $12

There's an RV park about 10-15 miles east, on Hwy 31. I'm not sure about others closer. Last year someone parked their "equiped" van in the parking lot at the park.

Hey, any Lewisville locals contact me about the possibility of staying at my place in Athens for the tourney.
It's actually my father's land, but i think he's going to let me put a couple disc golf buddies up. I haven't finalized it yet, but if I can get an idea within the next couple weeks of who is interested, we might be able to work something out.
Our place is about 15 minutes from the park, on Lake Athens. If they would get Loop 332 finished b/t 175 and 19, then it would only be 10 minutes. We have 18 acres, with a nice mobile home and plenty of space for tents. We have running water and electricity in and near the house.
Unfortunately, I can't offer it to very many people, so please only people I know and only those few who really need to save the $$ on a hotel room. Of course you have to be willing to be respectful of the place, as well as my folks, so no drunkenness or any illegal activity while on the property.
Again, I'm not sure if it's even going to happen, but I'm 99% sure I can get him to let at least one or two golfers stay. Maybe more if you have a tent. Email me if you're interested.

about 150 miles from Shreveport
Tyler is about midway between Dallas and Shreveport, and Athens is about 35 miles west of Tyler. My guess, 90 35 = 125 miles, 1-2 hours depending on speed.
You might ask around; I think several players come in from Shreveport/Bossier.

135 miles from Shreveport to Athens. You can make it!
By the way, This is my official "I'll be playing in this tournament" :-)
Does the division we play in have to be dictated by our player rating? Mine is really low due to only having played 2 PDGA events last year and stinking it up at both of them! I'd like to play Intermediate, but my rating is 6 points below the 875 Intermediate mark. Somebody who's in the know, please advise.

Of the many players that will be attending from the Dallas area, there will mostly likely be some commuters; that is, leave metroplex early Sat AM, return Sat PM, leave for Athens Sun AM, return Sun PM.
I'm hoping to attend, and bring another commuter with me. Our path will start near LBJ and the Dallas North Tollway, swing thru NE Dallas/Richardson, then down to hit US 175 east.
If anyone is along that way, or wants to drive over to North Dallas from Carrollton/Irving/Arlington/etc, let me know. I got room for 2 more.
Bill
Joshua, you can always play up above your rating, just not below it.
I always drive back and forth as well Bill. maybe we can hookup?
MIKEY
Bill, your approach is :SO smooth. Bait, Troll, Hook line and sinker! Looks like Kid Sayre is taking the bait! Just kidding ya'll, in my worst yankee voice. I love this tourney, Love this course. I miss Paul Giles. Im not sure about attending as of today. But to all: Enjoy! /clipart/happy.gif
Add me to the list.

Can I sign the official documents Sat am?
Rob's coming.... yeeehah! Looking forward to the return of Rob K to Athens!
Count me in to. First tournament since knee surgery in December. Will be sending in entry next week.

wish I could come, my thoughts and prayers will be there in memory of Paul.
I've had several ask if they could wait until saturday am, so this is a reminder to all. The field is being limited to 120 players this year. Last year we had 128. Only about 40 pre-registered last year.
If you really need to wait, you might keep an eye on the website's player list, and make sure you're at the front of the line saturday morning. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Oh, and the player list is not a reservation list; just something to help you plan with. I can't hold spots for everyone that says they're coming.
I got you down, Kelly. Playing Master?
Ok. Had to bring it up to the front. Found a sitter and get to actually play. Unfortunately, I haven't played in so long it is going to be pretty bad. Oh well, should be fun!
Cool, Susan. I had my best round at Athens yesterday. Vegetables. That's what really helps me.
Congrats! Dana. Vegetables? YUCK! Are you sure?
Shhh. Susan, that's just part of it. The rest is secret. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
oh, yes. we may be having some more women to come. I've had a call from one (speaking for several), and an email from another, wanting to know how to register. Not familiar names either. Add Shannon, Darlene, Sherri, Amy, Mary, Stephanie, Kelly, and Laura from last year and a few others and we could have a good crowd.
You playing pro this year? You keep moving up every year.
Speaking of music...
East Texas Blues Festival is Saturday April 26 in Downtown Tyler. The Square will be blocked off with great blues going on until late in the evening.
Tyler is about 35 miles from Athens.
Dana, let me know how I can help out. I'll plan on getting there early, help at lunch, and stay late.
See guys, I told you he was a lurker. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Yes, I admit, I am a lurker.
In defense, I hope you understand that I'm a lurker only because they have anti-stalking laws in Texas....
stalker/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif.you stalkin atwood? i mean he's cool and all but c'mon man raise your standards/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif.
This is true.
I should really try and find a higher calling.
/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Anthony Newberry and I will be there. I got to play this course for the first time on Sunday after leaving Nac., and this is a fun little course.
Justin, I hope you and Anthony have just as much fun after they add the temp holes. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I love the pond shot (Hole A?).
John, I added you to my volunteer list.
And Justin, Anthony to the players list.
Mark, You think I should make the Ziggy hole a part of the course?
Oh, John, the Blues Festival on the same day? It wasn't that way last year was it?
Dana, Ishould e tere but will not be able to pay until day of so if you want to put me on the list go for it

Dan and I will be there again this year so you can add us to the list. We are going to try and pre-register if money permits, if not we will pay when we get there! Looking forward to playing again this year!
Does anyone know if there is a Marriot property in Athens or Tyler?
Mary
No, Dana, it was not the same weekend. Generally, Ric does the Blues Festival two weekends after Easter.
I guess I've been spoiled all these years since I live on the Square in Downtown Tyler. I can go out and have a great time and sprint home before I'm captured.
OH NO! I am NOT playing pro! I haven't played in so long that my arm is practically spaghetti. I'll be playing down in intermediate. Haven't see all of you in so long I don't remember what most of you look like!
Mary, there is a Residence Inn in Tyler. 903-595-5188. Look forward to seeing you.
John, let's hope you're luck doesn't run out this year. Can't use the club money to bail you out of jail!
I will probably be playing Advanced Susan. I played Advanced last year and faired okay so I figure I should do just fine this year. It will be great to see you!

Yea. John. I used to live in a downtown apartment. It does have it's good points. At least it did in the 1980's, in San Francisco.
Marriot... That name sure sounds familiar from around here. What other chains do they have?
I'd like to request that Frank be put on the Adv. Women's card, please. That way I can heckle him the whole tournament and yell at him for not taking time on his putts. He loved playing the mix-n-match so much, that I'm sure he's up for it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Susan, I'm planning on playing as well. Haven't seen ya in forever..look forward to seeing you!

lets bump this to the front ok
hey who's going to be at this one let's get this one going here
i've never played this tourn. hows the course /s
I love the course, but then, I may be prejudiced. Cain Park was John Houck's second course design. It's fairly short and has a wide range of shots. There's only a couple of long holes, so the premium is on accuracy. There's two ponds, but only about 7 holes where water may come into play.
I don't know if it's the course, or its history, or both, but we've "over-filled" both years we've had the tourney. Maybe someone here will tell us why they are coming.
I wasn't promoting it, but it looks like we'll have a good female turnout this year. That's a cue for other women who are considering coming.
If you'd like to check the list of players that say they are coming, see the website,
http://www.texramp.net/~dbell/discgolf/pgm.html
and click on Players. Actual attendance has historically been 50 percent over what's on the list.
I can help you with this one "Scott Linthicum" - he will be bagging in the intermediate division...
You can also add:
John "Gimp" Edwards III MA2
Scott "Fat Boy" Rozanski MA2
Rob "The Gun" Engle MA1

Nope - not now that it is over 80 outside - you are going down even if you lay up on that water shot short arm... /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
No lay up for me, 15A is mine this year!! Of course if I am in the drink the first time I try, it might be a different story...lol

I'm still leaning towards 3 rounds of 21 with a cut before the fourth round. However, since i'm not running the event, i'll go along with whatever Dana decides/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Thanks for donating your time and effort Dana and staff. Looking forward to the PGM(ETO) as always. See you Friday evening.
Chances are there will be 24, 24, 24, (cut if necessary) and 18.
I'm not unreasonable, though.... You gotta give me a good reason not to play 24. Some good reasons are, not enough baskets, pouring down rain, temps over 100, snakes in one of the extra baskets, someone pays me not to have 24....
But, hey. I'm not planning a saturday night mixed doubles like the last two years.

fewer holes = home before midnight
24 holes ain't that bad.
Remember, this is Athens, not Arlington.
Last year, after the awards, and after cleaning up we played a full round well before dark.
Not that there's anything wrong with playing in the dark...

it's not the 24, it's the more-than-72
And if we're talking about last year, then how about more time for lunch?
Last year, there were groups finishing 30 minutes before the last groups came off the course. I know becuase I was in those last groups. And we only had about 45 minutes to eat. Sunday I almost didn't make the tee off, having to check out of the hotel, load up the wife, etc. That beef jerky was sooo good.
Here's my suggestions, then I'm quiet:
3x24, final 9, 1.5 hours for lunch after last group comes off course
/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Dana,
Congratulations on a great turn out already. It should be exciting to see that many women at the tournament. Girls...I look forward to seeing you all.
David is going to play in the same division Doug G. is playing in so get him on that list. We'll get you a check in the mail for our entry fee today!
I also want to be a sponsor but I forgot how to do that. Could you give me some informaion? I also want to volunteer to help with sign up on Fri. and Sat. morning if you need me again this year. David will probablly play in the doubles. He's going to need a partner. Any Takers? Also, Dana, we have a portable basket if you need to borrow it.
As to reasons I am playing this tournament...Let me count the reasons. 1. This was my very first disc golf tournament ever and it's such fun to go back every year. 2. Dana runs a great event! 3. I am determined to figure out how to throw hole#3 well. 4. I LOVE hole 15A across the pond. 5. The Giles family is sort of my family. Robert Giles is my brother-in-law and they are a special group of people. 6. Paul Giles convinced me to not quit playing no matter what some people thought about women on the courses. I have to respect and honor him by playing in this tournament. 7. The Tyler/Athens courses are my "home" courses and they are great. 8. This year with the Disc Show I KNOW there are going to be a lot of cool discs that I will have to get. It's a good thing that I get paid that Friday. 9. I always make the PGM my first tournament of the season. It's a tradition. Can't break the chain. And 10. The course is a great course. Short but challenging at the same time. I think you will enjoy it Fatboy. I hate calling you that. Who are you? See you there!
Hey Danna, put me on the list. I tried to get signed up but my titledisc account is not working. is it ok if i pay on Fri.
Titledisc isn't working for me either, Dana. Just tried. Hey, George is your wife going to play this year?
Susan,
Thanks for the kind words about Dad and the family. It's good to see and hear from the people that understood Dad wanted others to play no matter what there situation was/is. He enjoyed watching others as much or more than playing himself. Look forward to seeing you and David at the tourney.
I did a little research and it is a little more work that others, based on actual scores. But with 120 players, there's not many options. They want to play with a lot of other players, so they have to play that many holes. We can't have six-somes and shadow cards means too much waiting. Most people say they like all the holes.
I guess you could think of it as spring training.
I tried to trim it down a little by raising the entry fee a bit and sending out fewer mailers; but it looks like we're on schedule for another full tourney.
Lunch. You should have plenty of time on saturday; 2 1/2 hours if you're not going to show. Sunday is when many players are in a hurry to get back on the road, so I try to make it run a little more efficiently. I tried to make sure everyone had a full hour.
I know what you mean about checking out of the motel. An hour and a half... Hmmm. I like that idea. I don't know if I could make it on beef jerky. I need my vegetables. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Final round. I hate cuts. I'm trying it out with 18 to see how it works and how people like. Future years, maybe I can trim it to 15 or 12.
Susan,
It's never too late to sponsor, but it's too late to get t-shirt recognition.
The sponsorship info page is at
http://www.texramp.net/~dbell/discgolf/pgmsponsorship.html
Yes, we can probably use more baskets, just to be on the safe side.
Volunteering is always great. You might also enjoy working with the consignment table.
George,
Friday will be fine. I emailed Brad about titledisc. It usually shuts it down a week before the tournament; I asked him to keep it up until wednesday. I got 6 titledisc entries earlier today.
Dear Dana, the check is in the mail for myself and Troy "the violater" Berry. we will both be playing in the am intermediate division. Troy wanted a message conveyed to Mr. Tim Phillips. Troy says that Tim better not wuss out on him like he did at Nacogdoches. He wants to stomp him legit this time.
correction on charles' comments. i did not say i was going to stomp him, i said he better not forget that pretty pink dress of his...
OK Guys you are scaring the HE.. out of me!
Tim Phillips has already registered.
I hope I got him in the right division...
/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Susan,
I used to have a pink shirt...
Will you PROMISE to wear it at the tourney?
Now, Now Charles..it was just one week ago that you told me you were going to play advanced...guess you and your partner want that one stroke back .../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Yours truly -- 7th in the world...make sure you bring your C- game to Athens...you sure you can walk that much after San Saba?
plaed athens today on way home from tyler, pretty nice course, looking forward to next weekend, i ned to empty my bag out alot!! not much distance out there.. should be fun!!!
There are some long holes TK - the alternate hole played after hole 3 (?) is hella long up hill.
Plus, if last year is any indication, ALL the holes are longer the last round due to fatigue!
btl.
btl..I sure am glad that I'm not the only one that feels that way. That last round last year seemed to last forever!
TK..Did you play when you were here in Tyler? It'll be good to see you again at the PGM be sure you stop and say HEY!
didnt play in tyler just picked up my son ate and split.
btl i understand hat you mean on the fatigue, it will probly hit me hard, i've been pretty sick and i am in the middle of quitting smoking so i will prolbly be worn out sun afternoon

Where are all of the OMBs ?
Will there be 24 or 21 holes this year? 24 holes is a VERY long round!
TK, You're on the 'gonna show list'. You think I should HOLD you a spot?
You know, non-smokers are smarter. More oxygen gets to the brain. Smarter player=better player. It's only a matter of time before you'll have more energy than you need. Unless you're over 50, that is...
Yeah, Mike, 24 holes each, and a final 18.
Not much choice with 120 players.
I'm thinking about making it easier next year, have 27 holes, and then adjust the number of holes depending on how many survive round 1. What do you think?
/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Hey, Charles Cox glad to see you'll be playing am instead of advanced. I'm just sorry there wont be any room for you on the leader card so we wont be seeing much of each other. but i'll say hi in between each round. For all other am's see you there. for those who dont know me you will after this weekend. Also I saw the shirts today for the PGM there very nice. GOOD JOB DANNA
Well I was going to play in the PGM but then I figured it would be too many rounds for me so I thought about at least helping out so Dana just let me know what you need help with ok?!?! TTYL!
MA2’s talking smack - priceless
For any Discraft Z line throwers out there, Team Disaster is going to have some SWEEET sales going. Be sure to stop by... /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Hey Dana, I heard you may need some buckets. I have to put a new base on mine but i will bring it.
Oh Mike stop whinnig, just bring your inhaler
Amy,
Aww..it's not *so* bad playing all that golf. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif We're looking at having a pretty good showing of the women as it is, we'd love to see another playing.
Amy
ALRIGHT MR MURPHY. AFTER SHOOTING A WOMPING 68 AT ZBOAZ LAST WEEKEND, MY GOOD SENSE GOT A HOLD OF ME AND SUGGESTED I AM NOT READY TO GRADUATE TO ADV JUST YET. SO I WILL BE TAKING THAT ONE STROKE, PLUS CHANGE, OUT OF YOUR BUTTOCK THIS WEEKEND. AND TROY SAYS YOU CAN BORROW TIM'S DRESS AFTER TROY IS DONE WITH YOU...../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
AND ANOTHER THING MURPHY, I HAVE NOT SEEN EITHER YOU OR YOUR LIFEMATE MR KRELL SIGNED UP YET. MR KRELL GUARANTEED AN AM WIN FROM HIM AND A 2ND PLACE BY YOU. THIS WILL BE HARD TO ACCOMPLISH IF YOU ARE BOTH AT HOME ON THE COUCH THIS WEEKEND DO YOUR PARAFFIN WAX TREATMENTS AND PAINTING EACH OTHERS NAILS....
AHHH - the anger from young grasshopper.../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I haven't registered due to the fact I really can't decided if I feel like waiting around all day with all 24 holes filled up with 5 people on each hole...in addition to the payout looking like it is coming in the same manner as the ZBOAZ tourney earlier in the year...Rumor is your partner in crime won this tourney a year or two ago and got one disc...Is this true?
Oh..and Charlene...would that be coming from the same guy who has never taken me up on an invite to come up to Oklahoma for one of their tournies...or maybe even OctoberFriz?...You may or may not see me there...don't lose any sleep though...you need the beauty rest to keep Troy at your side /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
All in Good Fun my fellow golfers
Too bad Cruz isn't here to help me out with this/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Amy Dunn...You're husband said that you said that you would play if I did. I decided to play so now YOU MUST PLAY!We're going to have so much fun. I'll be playing in the intermediate division.
Amy Pudlkfjqei..that's the best I can spell your name from memory! I've been teaching 9 2-3 year olds all day and my brain is mush. I would love to play up in Adv but after the rear end kicking you girls gave me last year I must slink back to intermediate.
Charles..I love the ALL caps posts! It's just makes you scream when you read it! If the Mr. Krell is the one that I think you're talking about tell him from me that I think I can beat him this year and he better come to the PGM to prove otherwise! Bring picture of Dathan! Haven't seen one since last year!
Susan - the Mr. Krell he speaks of is named Brian Krell..he doesn't get out to many tournies, mostly since his game is weak and your right..you probably could take him...think they would let him down into Am Women? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Well Susan, If i did play i would play novice since i can't compete in intermediate.... and i thought it was going to be less rounds i can't handle that many rounds...but we'll see. ttyl!
Amy, Well we will see if i can make it, I may not have a baby-sitter but i will try. And thanks for your support! TTYL!
Hey George!! Bring your binoculars so you can see me that far ahead of you!!!! HAHA/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif MIKEY
I'd like to shake all the hands of my competitors this year, but it will be hard since they will all be far behind me, except for my life partner Charles who will 4ever be by my side.
Are the paramedics going to be on site?
TK(sick,non-smoker), Mike(inhailer) and me(Ivy) might need assistance after 24 holes.
You bunch of whiners!
If an old man, who just about changed your's and Mike's diapers can make it, so can you.
Amy,
Well I sure do hope you decide to play. It will be fun to actually get to play with you. I hope you weren't thinking that I wanted you to play up in intermediate (you'd do just fine if you decide to) I was just letting you know what my plans were. In fact, we'll probablly be playing on the same card anyway! I know what you mean about the rounds..24 holes is a lot. My first year I about died after the tournament. But I keep coming back for more!Call me and let me know what you think.
TAB..Hey! I figured it was Brian he was talking about. I haven't seen him in a long time. I think it was at the VPO last year that I saw him last. He was not playing well and made some comment about playing so badly that "even Susan could beat me". I probablly should have taken offense to that but I said that "Yea, I probablly could with that attitude." It's been a joke since then. I met Brian at my first PGM and saw him hit an ace on hole #1. Meeting him and Charles convinced me that not all golfers are a..holes! Sorry about the stroll down memory lane! See you and Charles this weekend. Since I quit playing for a long time I haven't seen anyone in forever!
Rob..I'm trained in CPR and First Aid if that is of any comfort to you! /clipart/smile.gif
Amy,
You might see if you can get Sandie to play. Even if you did play novice women, I can probably group you with Int. women.
Adam Murphy.
I remember you. You collect putters? In fact, I had a couple set aside for awhile. Don't know where they are now, though.
I don't know that much about the ZBOAZ payout. I thought Maceman always had good payouts.
If you haven't heard, the PGM payout is being handled through three visiting vendors, and 100% of entries is returned in prizes. That's in addition to any special prizes, CTPs, player's package.
Maybe I should post something fresh about the Disc Show.
> AHHH - the anger from young grasshopper...
/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
well the paramedics are really going to be needed, i decided that if i didnt want to get a divorce i should prob'ly wait to get a job before i quit smoking, but hey my legs are covered in poison ivy already so thats a plus.
see you guys saturday morning.
Peace
TK
johnny dunn? i thought you had moved on like j.d., to the open ranks... looking forward to seeing you bob along this weekend. it will be like the old days, except we will not have j.d. out there kicking your or me around this time. as for those that fear bringing their game to athens because they are fearful of the new thumbing machine known as the troyster, well, i will be in tulsa for the hideaway or whatever they are calling it this year. but if you are not there, i give drving lessons on wednesdays and sundays at veterans......
and another thing my padawan learner, the payout last year was good. the year you speak of was when troy won novice and he got more than he deserved. the payout last year was good, there were no back ups due to the 24 hole format, and it was a lot of fun. do not go based off of mr krell's opinion. he has not enjoyed a tourney in some time as the women do not follow him like they used to.....p.s. troy said he knew neither of you would show, and this is gonna cost me a $1.
dear susan, i will bring the pix. and for the wise-en-heimer with the life partner comment from tab, just remember, God is watching you..../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Hello all,
Just played Cain center this afternoon, lost my fav. valk on 10, but I was man enough to get in that stagnet pond and get it back. The good news is that the crew was out mowing today, so it won't be too overgrown. The bad news is that it's still almost 4 days till tee-off, and the grass will probably be too long to promote good skip-shots.
Dana, when will the alt. holes be put up? I'm planning on being in Athens Thurs. night, and I'd like to play the alt. holes a couple times before I play em for money. If they're going to be in place before Saturday, I'll be on the course ASAP.
Thanks!
JD
Correct Dana - white aviars..and I was just venting there for a sec...nothing against any of the past TD"s at all ..just pumping up everyone...you see that Charlene (Charles) and Traci (Troy) went to betting on it (our attendance)...guys I may or may not see you, but either way "I GOT YOU BY ONE"...
And even if I didn't make it...McGough will be there for you..and he "HAS YOU BY ONE" also...
Both McGoughs!!! Hehehehehehe
Mary
Good to see you are going to play also Mary...going to give pro a run again?
That must be a reminder that I forgot to send out the correction vouchers for the Intermediate pay out. I apologize for allowing that to slip through the cracks. I will have all the vouchers this weekend and if you will not be there I will send them off on Monday. Again I apologize for the delay.
Is there a publishable list of signups that can be posted. I would look back through the thread but I am TOO LAZY.....LOL

Kyle, I saw on the website that you are signed up for Advanced this weekend. I hope this isn't a mistake. It would be cool to play with you.
Cox, Gimp...
So many options for answers...
1) Doubles is flex start, 4:00 to 5:30.
That means, 4:00 is the earliest; 5:30 is the latest...
Or is it the other way around???
2) Earliest and latest depends on whether or not I'll be here. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif How early/late are you expecting to be?
3) Jason Thomas and a few others understand my idea of scheduling from registration during the first East Texas Open. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
One of the most satisfying things is driving the speed limit...
Sure beats being stopped on the side of the road with another car with flashing lights...
What Stephen Brower does in the privacy of his own house is his business!
TAB - I see that I have you in Adv. Open for the state of Texas..and I just moved here...now Charlene has me beat but he can't enjoy that casual round anymore...Tourney.Tourney.Tourney..good luck to both of you...and I will sit with my #50 tag and my #57 place in Tx Am...moving up when they get the Tulsa Quads Posted..Won that one..Canadian.....saw that you were the man at ZBOAZ..no wonder I didn't meet you before the Worlds...I never found that lead card /msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif
frank, i hope you bring plenty of batteries for that motorized wheel chair of yours. i would hate for it to go dead on the course this weekend.
dear adam, what is all the gobble-d-gook you speak of in the earlier posting about #57 in tx? and mr dunn,i will be driving fast on the course. it is the only thing one can do when their score card says 2/2/3/2/2/3/3/1/2/3....now these scores could change depending on what hole i start on....
I'm ready to have FUNNNNNNNNN
MR. Cox - the newest rankings are out for the 1st quarter of 2003...check the threads...you have me by a bit, but your partner in bad golf is laggin behind..too bad he will have to fend for himself this weekend...Good Luck to you guys...Don't let those locals show you how to play on their course...

1 Nolan Grider
2 Randy Pendleton
3 Lew Satterfield
4 Joel Kelly

Jerry, thanks again to you and your family. Don and I really enjoyed staying with you. You and Diana are great hosts and great cooks. Tell her again that we say the quiche was delicious. I had never had banana pancakes before. Those were great. Tell Aubrey thanks again for us. Ian is a great disc golfer. His drives were long. His putts were good. He has matured a lot since last year. I really enjoyed playing the last three rounds with him. I wish you had been nearby to see that awesome bird of his.
Susan and Darlene it was great to see ya'll and play with you this weekend. It was nice to see the Giles family again. It was a fun weekend. I am so exhausted this morning.
Congrats to Mary! Congrats to the Arlington grandpas: Joe, Willie and Ken.
Cain Park is beautiful, 24 holes is exhausting, but I appreciate all 125 people being able to play the one course. Dana thanks for running this tournament. I can imagine it is a tough task.
FOUND DISCS:
After getting back in the water again these are the disc I found that I would think ya'll might want back. The cost of retrieval is what you think is fair for my hours of looking for ya'll discs, in that cold, nasty water. :-) (Not to be lower than $3.00) Rich or nice people can pay more. :-) Anyways here is the list.
Gary Shugart - First Run Roc "Posion Ivy Open"
Des - Brand New Orange KC Pro T-Bird
David Jones - white CE "X Out" 169 Valk
Tim Phillips - Dyed CE Valk 172
Steve Browning - 176 Dyed Stratus
B.Bishop - Heart Stamp 171 Valk
Willy(11272) - 175 white KC Banshee
Kelly Hicks - white 171 JK Pro Valk
Ben Poole - Red 175 SE TeeBird
Ron Giles - Yellow 175 Pro Line Monster
Ron Giles - Blue 175 KC Pro Teebird
Craig F. - Orange 169 JK Pro Valk
DBA(12299) - Orange 171 JK Pro Valk
ROZ"FatBoy" - Yellow 174 CE Eagle
Brower(16215) - Blue Z-XS
S.Linthicum - Orange Wildcat
If some of these people are ya'lls friends call them and see if they want them back for a small donation to the JT's Broke FUND.
Email me at Spdkills02@cox-internet.com with in a week or I might have to sale them out so I can play the Next Texas 10. Thanks Ya'll. Later

Dana and Staff,
Thank you for a wonderful weekend of disc golf! The course looks great! Thanks also to my husband for some good tips and to Ginetta & Rob for caddying for me!
The only thing I would change about the course is the baskets. I had several spit and I saw several others being spit. Of course that is kind of expensive. Maybe the whole bag tag thing could help with that!
Thank you to Amy, Regina & Christina for a fun weekend. I hope to see you all soon!
Regina, keep playing awesome golf!
Mary
I see several of you screaming for scores, and according to the time stamp, before I got back home. Oh, yes! I didn't get to play, so I had to play a round before I left.
Once I unpack the van, I'll start putting numbers in the computer.
Thanks all of you for coming. After all, it's all of you that made the tourney what it was.
So, JT, if any of us find a disc of yours, we should charge you $3. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Oh, yes. I had bandages this time. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
ya, i searched for an hour in the cold nasty water and retrieved about 20 discs. i am one of the nice giys who turns them in for nothing but a good thanks....if you lost a disc on 15A check with DANA at no charge! i never found mine but i found lots of others. i had a lot of fun and look out next year!
Dana,
I would be more than happy to pay anyone $3 bucks for a disc I lost. It's worth it I think. When I find discs at Lindsey Park I always just give them back like you all have done for me in the past.
Steve,
I don't think by me charging people it makes me not a "nice guy". Yes, it shows I'm broke. :-) It would make me mean if I didn't even tell people I had there discs and sold them down here for $9 and $10. I gave some back to my local friends, and you're right the GOOD Ol' "Thanks" is nice to get. I think of it this way, people give there pizza guy $2-3 bucks tip all the time. So why shouldn't I get alittle lunch money for giving back a disc someone probably thought they would never see again.
I'm in college and don't have a job, so if I even want to show up and play I have to sale some of my own discs, or do like I did in Athens. Last year I just gave most all of them back for the "Thanks" and I got a huge gash in my foot to show for it. Missed playing events for a couple weeks. And just when I thought my foot was getting better I'd try to play and it would tear back open when I planted. Crappy huh? So I told my self this year THEY'LL PAY!!! *evil grin* ;-)
It's all just $Paper$ and OPlasticO,
Have A Good Day,
~Jt

In case anyone was in the pond behind the #13 basket, I've got a Purple Z-XS and my favorite white JK Valk (all but the "Valkyrie" part of the stamp was removed) still in there as far as i know. Also a brand new DX Beast with a maceman stamp in at 15A. All have my name and PDGA number on them.
If you pulled any of them out, please contact me and we'll work out an exchange for something.
Anyway, I played really crappy but had alot of fun this weekend. See y'all next year!
JT is still paying the medical bills from last year when he cut his foot looking for discs. He is also a college student and a little compensation is not going to kill you if you want the disc that badly.
I found and turned in four that I picked up in the shrubs, but then again I didn't climb into that slime infested pond to get them.
David and Mikey searched the pond on 15A and turned in all the discs they found at no charge. Thanks for the effort guys. By the way, even David refused to go into the large pond and JT did.
I heard that there were several golfers that went in Saturday night and simply took what they found, never turning them in. Shame on you if you are reading this.
Dana, thanks I enjoyed the tournament and I have to say the invoices and selections from different vendors was a nice way to pay out. Plenty of seleciton.
Don and Laura, you are certainly welcome again. Next year I will have the grill.
Thanks to all who played with Ian. I talked to him about keeping a positive attitude even during mess ups and he said that all the people he played with were great about that.
Brian and Nolan, thanks for the outstaning examples that Ian saw, and by the way Ian calls you his friends and that is way cool.
Enough rambling
I'm not buying my disc back. It was in the lost and found box and when i went to get it someone had already decided they wanted it more. So to whoever ends up with that disc, may the bad kharma destroy your game forever!
How about payout & SCORES? PLEASE/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
JT, I bet if you contacted some of these folks, some of them would be inclined to give you a little something for your trouble. Posting that you have someone's disc and telling them it'll cost 'em to get it back is probably gonna elicit more reactions like the one you're getting from Scott. Just thought you'd like a second opinion. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Remember, one and all, karma is real...fear it. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
JT, Mark is right, next time say "Found in Water lost discs"......all donations accepted to the JT brokedick college fund.......
$3 is chumpchange. Someone going in that water deserves at least as much. Being a nice guy is great and all but there is nothing wrong with a little enterprising here. In this case Karma is out the window. Tip the waiter please!!!!!
Hey Mark,
I get the thing about Karma but I don't think I have to fear it. ;-) I think as long as I Fear God, and live as best I can to his will, then disc golf karma is thrown in free. :-)
You know, I'm not even worried about the money. If anyone wants there disc back and feels that I should just hand it to them with a smile, I will be more than happy to do that. Or if you really feel thankful and in the giving mood you can drop a few bucks or a coupon for a sonic burger. It doesn't matter to me. I never thought going in that nasty pond would have all these aftershocks. :-)
I didn't lose any of my discs this weekend so it wasn't like I was looking for mine and while doing so I took 16 other discs hostage. :-) I was just trying to help out and not get used like last year. Well, I will be in Houston this weekend with these discs and if you own them or are friends with the person who does them come see me. Later Guys.
~Jt
In my case I tried to give the guy that found my disc and put it in the lost and found $3 and he would not accept it. When I got up to the lost and found it was not there anymore. I am NOT accusing JT of anything nor am I mad about it, I am just simply not going to pay to get a disc back that was stolen.
Of course Kelly's right about the tip the waiter concept. I always think its a good idea to throw a buck or two to someone fishing my plastic out of the drink. I just thought asking for donations for their return might've been better phrasing. That's all. You're a trooper for getting in there, no doubt. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif (BTW, the "fear karma" thing wasn't directed at you.)
I've got jelly in my ears and my pants are greasy....Chuuuuuck. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I said Please, with the scores & payout./msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif
I feel if you lose ur disc in the water and do not make an attempt to get it after the round, its not urs anymore. There is no way your going to get your disc by kicking it at your hotel. If your too scared to get in the water, don't go off on people who did.

While I agree that a disc left after the tournament is over has been abandoned, there were waders in the pond before the last round Saturday was finished.
I do not wish to risk a foot injury until after the final round, if I can't see the disc, or the bottom, I will wait until after the event is over. If the disc is that important, then I will go after it.
I do hold that any disc found anywhere on the course while the tournament is still in progress (before the end of the final round) should be turned in to the lost and found with a smile.
just like the two guys from Dallas making a living off the Waco tourney's. they are in the water the next morning....twice!!! they don't even know who joey is and there they are wallowing around with zero intent to give or sell people their discs back. if we see them after AM weekend they are going to find the real Waco cult!
do NOT post as Waterboy unless you are him....

now, that is quality H2O.
Shame on JT. In college? Sell, Sale. There, Their? Give the dam discs back and get a JOB! "meister"
Steve,
please read my post today at 12:20
Better yet here is the part I want you to see.
"You know, I'm not even worried about the money. If anyone wants there(should be their) disc back and feels that I should just hand it to them with a smile, I will be more than happy to do that. "
So I've already said no prob on getting all these discs back to there (should be their once again) owners at no charge. I just asked that they email me so I can set it aside for them.
And the comment on my gramer was awesome. Thank you for politley letting me know I could use work in that area.
GnDuke,
You are right. I don't think anyone should get in and search unless they are looking for their own before the tourney is over. I did wait until it was over and tried to tell everyone that I had found them and was interested in a small tip for the trouble. However, somebody found the trash sack I had and dumped it out while I was getting my pay out and I have no idea who grabbed what. It was ok though. Some said thanks, and some said thanks and handed me $3. Either way, I'm not really trying to be anal about all this. I just wish once again I never even got in the pond and next year I won’t go in even if I want to get my own for fear I’ll find someone else and be stuck with this burden. ;-) I thought this was going to help people not start all this. Later Bud.
Hey Scott,
That really $ucks that someone took your disc off the lost and found. Was it your wildcat, b/c that is the one I found in the water. I lost at Brand New Sky Blue Pro Firebird on hold 15B and never got it back. I had my name on it and everything. What happned to honesty and integrity? Oh well, I'll have your disc in my trunk so the next time I see you let me know and I'll give it back no charge. :-) Later,
grambo

pondboy, and others who don't know
Waterboy is a grown-up who used to be the kid who would always get your disc for nothing, no matter the weather or water condition
most of us don't know his real name
now, apparently, he is in the military
so there is a precedent, you have to be a selfless kid to be called 'Waterboy' in Texas
just fyi
