I am proud to announce that the 5th Annual Red Rock Show, March 15-16, 2003, will be presented this year by Hill Country Flyers.

I would like to thank Dave Moody for the opportunity to run one of the most fun and popular events I’ve been around since I began playing, and I promise to do my best to insure that the tradition of quality that he has established continues for this wonderful event. I also look forward to Dave getting a chance to play. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

This PDGA B-tier event is traditionally one of the most fun events on our state calendar each season. Held at Moody’s Disc Golf Country Club in Red Rock, Texas, the Red Rock Show has always offered an extremely enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere as well as a full weekend of great golf on one of Texas’ premier courses.

The format for this event will, for the most part, remain the same as it has been in years past. More announcements regarding all the specific details for the 5th Annual Red Rock Show will be coming down in the next few days, so stay tuned to the PDGA message board (http://pdga.com/message_board.php) and to your email inboxes.

If you are not already on the Hill Country Flyers “Events” mailing list, be sure to notify me at mark@zeecon.com and place “HCF mailing list” in the subject field. This way you can stay up to the minute on all the important info regarding our four B-tiers and our monthly minis. If you have any questions regard the RRS, please direct them to mark@zeecon.com or call me at 512-756-7127.

I want to give props to the Red Rock tournament--I played last year (my second tournament ever), and after playing in a lot of other tournaments since, it is still the best tournament memory I have.

I spent two and a half days camping out at Moody's ranch, late nights around campfires and some of the nicest golfers I've ever played with. It's also my favorite Texas course--amazing place to play. If you can attend, then do.

Moody's will always be on the top of my list for favorite Texas DG spreads. Looking forward to attending, just have to find someone to fill in for league that weekend. I'm sure that I'll find a way, and this time round, I might even be able to convince some of the Houston ladies to come out and play!

READY TO ROCK @ RED ROCK!!!

'Fraid not Pat. I might occasionally play in my own minis, if its a day when not that many folks show up, but my responsibility during an event of any size is to the players, not to my over developed need to torture myself by missing 15 footers...repeatedly. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 14 2003, 10:46 AM
Glad to hear players pleased about the Red Rock Show for 2003. Mark will do a great job TD'ing and I will back him up 100%. Players can direct tournament questions to Mark. If you need to get some practice rounds in...come join me. I'm playing this year!/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 17 2003, 12:15 AM
Hello All,
I've got more details to pass along about the Red Rock Show.

I am pleased to announce that like all the other HCF events this year, the Red Rock Show will be partnering with the 2003 ZiegenBock Texas 10 Charity Tour, to support the tour's charity, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This charity, which I personally feel is very worthwhile, helps those living with and living through cancer. Like many other Texas events, the RRS will donate $2 per player to the LAF, through the efforts of the ZT10.

As an added bonus for our players, the RRS will be one of the few select events chosen as a "Points Qualifier Event," enabling our players to gain points toward their respective ZT10 division points championships.

The format for this event will, for the most part, remain the same as it has been in the past. The RRS should be up on Titledisc.com soon for online registrations. We expect this year's event to fill as it always has, and we will cap the field at 90 players so don't wait. What I can tell you right now is that we'll play 3 rounds of 18 holes with a final 9 playoff for the top four in Open Pro only, and that the entry fees* will be as follows:

$65.00 Open Pro
$65.00 Pro Masters
$55.00 Open Women
$45.00 Advanced Men, Advanced Women, Advanced Gr. Masters, Adv.Masters
$35.00 Intermediate Am Men, Intermediate Am Women
$25.00 Novice/Rec Men, Novice/Rec Women
$20.00 Per team pick-your-partner doubles on Friday, flex start between 1-3 pm
$5.00 PDGA fee for non-members
$3.00 Ace Pot ($1.00/round)
$5.00 Greens fee/per day (mandatory for all players)
No Charge this event for camping.

*Included in each entry fee is the $2 per player donation that will be given to the Lance Armstong Foundation.

Moody’s Disc Golf Country Club has always offered an enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere and great golf on one of Texas’ premier courses.

I would like to thank Dave again. I'm very excited to be TDing one of my favorite events. I also look forward to Dave getting a chance to see whether he really does have a home field advantage. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

More announcements regarding details of the 5th Annual Red Rock Show will be posted to the PDGA message board (http://pdga.com/message_board.php) and sent to you via email.

If you are not already on the Hill Country Flyers “Events” emailing list, be sure to notify me at mark@zeecon.com and place “HCF mailing list” in the subject field. This way you can stay up to the minute on all the important info regarding our four B-tiers and our monthly minis. If you have any questions regarding the RRS, please direct them to mark@zeecon.com or call 512-756-7127 between the hours of 9 a.m. - 9 p.m..

It has been brought to my attention that I'm offering a division that doesn't exist anymore. Thanks to Jack Camp for pointing out my error. I glad you guys are gonna keep this rookie straight. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I basically took the divisions offered last year and just updated entry ifo. What I didn't update was the fact that there's no Adv. Gr. Masters division anymore. Oops. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

In light of that, I'll make the correction here now, then send it out to the HCF list. Here are the divisions, the entry costs and the ratings requirements:

All Advanced - $45
Adv. - Any (required for 925 )
Adv. Master - Any (required for 875 )
Adv. Women - Any (required for 800 )

All Intermediate - $35
Int. (under 925 only)
Int. Master (under 875 only)
Int. Women (under 800 only)

All Recreational (replaces Novice) - $25
Rec. (under 875 only)
Rec. Master (under 825 only)
Rec. Women (under 750 only)

Now Jack, there is still a Grandmaster division for Pros. If you want to go after some of that, go for it. Of course, here in Texas, we have some pretty dam good golfers playing Pro Gr. Masters, and I'm sure Willy and Tom and the rest of the guys would welcome one more. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 17 2003, 05:14 PM
Mark I'm leaning towards no, but will call and confirm on Monday...

Jan 17 2003, 10:08 PM
Wow there could actually be some Intermediate Masters... Mark, you can play Gerde in that division. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 18 2003, 12:53 AM
I tell you what Ric, If you wanna shot at me out at Moody's in one of our "make it interesting" casual rounds before the tourney, you got it. I hit 5 birdies on the front 9 at Circle R today so I'm feeling a bit cocky. Even took money from an OMB and a Pro (well, in a way, but the Pro doesn't count /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ).

But I won't be playing the RRS. I'll be busy making sure you guys don't have to worry about anything but golf. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Got the artwork today and its too cool. Also went and did a little shopping so I got 'da goods.

Jan 18 2003, 06:09 PM
Played the course today, it is looking very nice.

Jan 18 2003, 06:13 PM
Okay guys, I've finished the Red Rock Show Flyers/Entry Forms. They're in Word and if anyone wants one to pass around to your local club members or to post on an announcements board, just let me know and I'll email you one.

Also, Dave will have them out at Pease, for those who want to sign up the old fashioned way. While we recommend for your convenience and ours that you use the Titledisc.com service, I understand that some of you would rather hand someone a check. Not that you should need another reason to attend Moody's excellent Pease Park minis, but there's an extra one.

We will cut off entries accepted at Pease at the March 8th Saturday mini. That will be your last opportunity to sign up at the park, for those who wish to do so.

Jan 20 2003, 01:10 AM
As promised, Titledisc.com now has the online registration form available for the RRS so those of you who can't live anymore without the convenience of this service (like me), tear it up.

Brad, you 'da man.

Jan 20 2003, 01:39 PM
I'm as bad as Keith Johnson with all these posts in a row. Sheesh. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Anyway, the flyer/entry form for the Red Rock Show is now posted on our web site at http://www.hillcountryflyers.com/. If you'd like to print it out from there and send it in, you now have yet another convenient option available to you for entering.

More news coming soon.

mark, are you going to have t-shirts, discs, etc. with this cool artwork you have for Victoria and RedRock?

Jan 22 2003, 02:50 PM
Yeppers. The artwork for the color stamps for Victoria got the thumbs up from Innova yesterday and I will be ordering the ones for the RRS shortly.

Had several back and forth emails and conversations with my shirt guy yesterday and can't wait to see those finished products.

Two words of advice to those wanting to purchase these full color stamp discs: "Limited Quantities."

Glad y'all are digging them. Scott did a bang up job on the RRS artwork and I hacked my way through the task of something for Victoria (which ain't too shabby). /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 22 2003, 03:52 PM

Jan 22 2003, 10:38 PM
uhhh Mark? About this artwork...now that DgD is shuttin' down operations for a while, are you aiming to take his place as defender of the Darkside? /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

First of all - I have a strong art background...so I think I'm a qualified judge.

Now in examing the artwork, yee-gadddd!!! is that blood and arm particles coming off from that lefty's wrist joint? What's the point here, a lefty throwing his arm off? And I know that the Texas Hill Country can be a bit rocky here and there, but why the heck isn't this lefty throwing CE plastic instead of the beat-up DX crap?

In summing this up, we have the following:
<UL><LI>Lefty - Bad <LI>Chipped up DX disc - Bad <LI>Severed arm part - Good <LI>Red blood and particles - Even better <LI>Ragged bone hanging out of arm part - Best (and a good goal for next year's artwork.) /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif</LI>[/list]

Jan 23 2003, 12:16 AM
Some people have too much freakin' free time. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

And yes, that is blood mixed with arm particles. Cool, huh? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I can't take credit for it though. The darkness (and artistic talent) came from Scott Carter, who has always provided the super cool artwork for the Red Rock Show.

(That arm coming out of the cabin reaching back to throw over Moody's pond is one of my absolute faves!)

Jan 23 2003, 08:13 AM
I got that one hanging on the wall, definately a classic, the one twisted around the tree is kewl too..

Jan 23 2003, 10:27 AM
ching, what ya got against lefty's? too many of them kicking your arse?

i guess this logo is called the "grip it and rip it" logo /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 23 2003, 02:15 PM
actually it is grip it and rip it part II. I did a similar drawing for the 1999 Capital of Texas Open. Only now, this southpaw can throw harder so not only has his hand ripped off his arm but the CANDY plastic can't take the force and is melting...

hope to see ya at the next events,at moody's.

i might not be able to play, but will be there for the party saturday nite.

Jan 24 2003, 03:05 PM
thats right ching. Except it was a red first run CE Valk. I lost it in the creek at Tom Bass. Thats how I started doing artwork for Moody- I lost many discs in the creek on hole #3 at Pease park. He kept seeing my drwings on the back of discs in the lost and found box in his trailer. I will argue with anyone that that hole is the hardest for a southpaw of any hole in Texas.

Jan 24 2003, 03:07 PM
That is a pretty darn hard lefty hole - how about a side arm /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Jan 24 2003, 03:14 PM
not too good at side arms like you are Gimp...thats also right Metal. Glad it flew for you, I never could get those TeeBirds to work for me...see you at the keg(s) at RRS..

also hard on lefties - #14 at Lake Lewisville. thats why they like to use it as CTP.. they fear us /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 25 2003, 11:32 AM
Yeah, but #3 at the Red Rock Show should set up pretty nicely for you southpaws. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

sandalman
Jan 25 2003, 08:02 PM
hmmm... true, it is a hyser for a lefty... but we get just as wet if we overdrive it. and short righty shot might easily stick in the bank close to the pin, whereas a short lefty shot is virtually gauranteed to skip off the bank like cowboys off samaritans. like many so-called "lefty" or "righty" holes, #3 is actually reasonably balanced. (i happen to believe that holes that truly favors one or the other are very rare.)

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be bringing entry forms with me tomorrow to the Live Oak Ice Bowl for the 5th annual Red Rock Show!

Stage II of Evolution 2003 is gonna be a blast. I'll have some cool updates and news about the RRS real soon, but don't forget to regiter early. Entries are starting to heat up on Titledisc.com and we've even got a couple of out of state pros that have already sent in their checks via snail mail.

If you can't register on Titledisc.com (which I heartily recommend you try to do), please go to Hill Country Flyers website and click on the RRS Link and print out the entry form to be mailed in. Also Dave has forms at the Moody's Mobile Pro Shop at Pease.

Looking forward to some great golf and some great fun in the Barn!

Woo Hoo !!! Goin to the Red Rock Show.. Is this a last man standing event? We have one of those here in Michigan called the Bell's Solson Memorial. From what I gather this should be quite an expierence.

I have never played this course what should I expect?

Is this a technical course? Or a big arm Tejas course? Elevation?

thcplz
Feb 15 2003, 10:24 AM
little bit of both, front 6 tech, couple on the back also.

Daniel, go to the Hill Country Flyers (http://www.hillcountryflyers.com) website and print as many as you need. The mailing info is on the flyer/entry form and of course, you can register for all our PDGA events this year on Titledisc.com (recommended).

Look forward to seeing you at Stage II of Evolution 2003! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'll be there! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Okay guys and gals, get ready for Stage II of Evolution 2003, The 5th Annual Red Rock Show. On the heels of the very successful debut of Hill Country Flyers' PDGA schedule this year, we're really excited to be a part of an event with the history of fun and great golf that the Red Rock Show is known for.

We've got a few surprises for the Pros and hope to have some great new merchandise for our Am players.

Over the next few days, you'll be hearing plenty from me regarding this event, but there's one thing that you should already know from the VO. When I say this event will fill, trust me. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif We will cap the field at 90 and we WILL fill before the morning of the show, believe it.

If you're not already signed up, Titledisc.com is one of the easiest options. If you're not a credit card/check card type, go to www.hillcountryflyers.com (http://www.hillcountryflyers.com) and print an entry form and mail it to the address on the form. Dave also has entry forms at Moody's Pro Shop in Pease Park. I'll have entry forms with me at the ZT10 in Lewisville on Saturday and at the Lago Vista 1st Sunday Monthly this coming Sunday.

I look forward to seeing you all out at Moody's Disc Golf Country Club for a combination of fun and challenging golf that will certainly be memorable for us and for our players.

And, as always, Stay Tuned. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Feb 24 2003, 10:23 PM

Feb 25 2003, 11:04 AM
Martyr, got a list of entrants for us yet?

Feb 25 2003, 11:43 AM
Little early yet for me to want to post one, Colonial. Let's just say that we're less than half full, but with the VO now in our rear view, I expect those that are going to want play this one will be taking care of business over the next week or so.

Wait not, want not. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Feb 25 2003, 02:26 PM
TKirtz - I did go in the shallow water by 2 and 3 but found no MS. If it was deeper its waiting for the fisherman.
Mark is right about waiting...the RRS filled a week early the last two years. A winter wonderland today.

Brian Schweberger, please email me at mark@zeecon.com or call me at 512-756-7127. I heard last week through the Aussie grapevine that you and a couple of your road dog buds were interested in coming to the RRS and we'd certainly love to have have 'ya.

Had a very positive trading of emails and phone calls this morning with one of our sponsors. I think its safe to say that we're expecting big things for all our Evolution 2003 events and an even bigger '04. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Feb 26 2003, 10:32 AM
Julie said she talked to some players out here in Red Rock this weekend that were from up north but did not get names. Said they were playing the Show.
Again, I will be throwing on the 2nd and 3rd(sun and mon) and 9th and 10th in the afternoon if anyone wants to join.

Red Rock course is in great shape! I got a round in from the red on a rainy Sunday (-5 with two bogeys). The grass is cut better than any other time I have seen it. And it looks like some of the fairways were planted in rye grass, so they are very green. Looks like there is dependable electricity at the cabin. The biggest problem I see for Red Rock Show is the ponds are now lakes. Fairway 1 is split with water (that’s going to be for allot of o.b.), Tee box 2 is under 2 feet of water. And holes 2&amp;3 got water REAL close. The back side 9 lake is going to be hard to golf around.
Great job out there Moody and I will see you soon for some golf.

Mar 03 2003, 04:00 PM
If the TD agrees we will use the original #2 tees as they were in 1998. It makes for a tough first three holes. The golfer with a good internal caddie can play smart, safe, and dry. Risks are abundant.

Thanks again for the welding work Randy. Moody's C.C. will have two new benches(double) on the course for the tourney. That makes six or seven now! Also, one camp area will have Randy's newest product, a three sided fire pit with grate and sock dryer. Might be by Tayloe's Oktoberfest campsite, can't remember....

Okay folks, here's what we've got so far. As always, if you think your name's supposed to be on this list and you don't see it, don't panic. Just get in touch with me by phone (9 a.m.-9 p.m. 512-756-7127) or email me at mark@zeecon.com, and we straighten it out.

There's probably more players than the 26 spots we have left, who have said that they'd like to play this one. We WILL cap the field at 90. There WON'T be any ghost cards. We WILL fill well before the day of the event (my guess is before the end of the week). No dawdling. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Mar 05 2003, 09:24 AM
Please add myself and Robert Odom. I'm mailing the check today. I think MitchMac might be coming also.

Mar 05 2003, 09:54 AM
Daniel, you've got mail.

If there's anyone else traveling from north of the Red River, please call or email me. Please don't fail to make arrangements before you make the drive, as I'd hate to see you drive all that way without getting to play. (Although I can always use the extra staff. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif )

Mar 05 2003, 10:29 AM
I took five more paid sign ups last night at Pease. TV, RW, DQ, AD, and AH. I'm sure you'll be on the next update. I emailed your info this am.

Mar 05 2003, 10:41 AM
Come out to Red Rock to practice. Some of us will tee at 1pm. We'll see who gathers and decide if you want to practice with or without money on the line. Remeber, you'll play multiple tees unless Mark has something different in mind.

Mar 05 2003, 11:04 AM
Nothing different, Dave. Multiple tees will be played by all divisions.

Open Pros will play shorts, mids and longs, in that order. The final 9 playoff of the top 4 in Open will also be from the longs. I'm trying to raise the funds for another great skins match (was last year's cool or what?) that will take place after the final scoring rounds have been played.

I'm also tying up some other loose ends today that should prove helpful and fun.

BTW, with the commitments I've had this morning from traveling players, the entries off titledisc from last night, the entries at Pease last night, etc., we've only got 16 spots left. We'll be full in two days. Book it. If you know someone that you think will want to play that has not contacted me yet, then be a good friend and tell them to do so immediately. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Snooze you lose.

Mar 05 2003, 11:09 AM
If someone knows Sheldons number, call him about signing up. I don't have his number with me.

Okay, I may have been pessimistic with the 2 days thing. I may have to adjust my prediction to being full by tonight. The countdown begins.....

Joker, Mark is man to talk to, Dave is a mere Open player for this one. Playing on his home course which he knows better than anyone.
Sorry to hear about your predicament.

Mar 05 2003, 08:48 PM
Mark Atwood is the TD, "the man". I have no power to save spots. Sorry. mark@zeecon.com, titledisc.com, hillcountryflyers.com

Mar 05 2003, 08:50 PM
What's up Shando?

Mar 05 2003, 09:42 PM
A mere Open player. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Dat's funny! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Okay boys and girls, we've got 3, count 'em 3 spots left. You've got probably a few more minutes before we shut down Titledisc entries.

I'll post the list tonight before I go to bed. Let's try to top this puppy off.

Somebody in Arlington call Tracy Nations. We've got 2 in FPO and I'd like to see her play.

Mar 05 2003, 09:47 PM
I must be just in time huh Mr. Atwood?

CTP from the porch to #2!

Mar 05 2003, 10:54 PM
Randy,

I was scheduled to carry the pager that weekend. Last minute change to the schedule has me carrying it this weekend, but plans were already made with the wife for that weekend. I am playing too many weekends this year to get out of it.

Mar 05 2003, 10:59 PM
Bummer, its shaping up to be a nice field in MM1. Kinda makes me wish I was gonna be out there with 'em.

Yes Mitch, I got Patty's email. I know the girls wish she was gonna play and let Zoe caddy, though. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Mar 06 2003, 12:33 AM
Well, I wanted to be able to say we were full a whole 10 days in advance, but I guess we fell just short. Two spots left (still don't have the finals from Titledisc) and Titledisc entries are shut down. If you want one of those last spots call or email me in the morning (not now or you definitely won't get in /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ) and we'll see what we can do for you. There's already a couple of folks who want 'em but weren't sure yet. They'll be gone tomorrow so don't be disappointed. If you want 'em, get 'em.

If you're one of those people who need to see me when you arrive, we'll be checking folks in during doubles on Friday afternoon. We'll be there by 11:00 a.m. (probably earlier, but act like you didn't read that) and if all goes well I'll even get to play dubs (1-3 flex start on Friday).

Hope to have some good news on some other stuff in the a.m.

Here 'ya go and......STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Mar 06 2003, 09:24 AM
Any word about music for Sat. night from the "singing TD"?

Mar 06 2003, 09:38 AM
Hey Tod, I'll be your doubles partner. It never hurts to play the course one extra time.

Does this music involve any open jamming? If so, me and my bass may have to make an appearance.

And finally, Looks like I'll definately be heading out do Red Rocks on Sunday afternoon, when are others that are playing going to arrive, so I can have some guides.

martyr, my doubles partner is out, i can play masters with you creating probably the worst short game in the history of golf. for yes a 20 footer is an upshot for me as well. let me know. peace/plastic.

Mar 06 2003, 10:29 AM
Daniel, I'd be happy to have you as my dubs partner (I'd hate to make Cong's back sore, although he can caddy for us /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ).

As for the dubs format, I'm not sure if we'll have divisional dubs. What we did in Victoria was Pro and Am (I believe the Ams were in fact won by a couple of guys in our OMB division). That's my plan as of now, but I suppose if we get enough players to justify divisional dubs, I'd reconsider.

BTW, WE ARE FULLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

We did actually fill last night after I went to bed, and before midnight. So we did make the 10 day early mark! WooHoo. Time to make scorecards and hole assignments. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

The waiting list starts.............NOW.

What hole do I start on/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif You know I couldn't resist on that one.

I may even offer to run doubles for you Mark so then you don't have any excuse to not throw any discs into the ponds.

Mar 06 2003, 10:42 AM
You Start On #2! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Sorry I couldn't resist.

I don't throw discs into ponds. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Can you mix the novice men with the advanced women so we can play with someone? I would like to beat more than just one person. Just kidding. You guys don't have chicks to bring or what?

You might have the opportunity to play two of us, as I am considering moving up and playing advanced. I'll decide Monday, but I will have to agree, LADIES WERE THE HECK ARE YOU????

Mar 06 2003, 11:18 AM
Mark, I do hope you are considerate enough to start the OMB near the Pro Shop or supply us with Golf carts!

Mar 06 2003, 11:25 AM
mark has my firebird, don't let him throw near the ponds!

Mar 06 2003, 11:51 AM
Hey - I have something for you guys that did not get in to do the weekend after Red Rock. OK the AMs who got in can still come too /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Mar 06 2003, 12:04 PM
