West Guth Park, right off I-37, in north Corpus Christi, is home to a course that wants nearly every shot in your bag and will reward or punish you accordingly.

This wonderful course will host the 1st Annual Coastal Clash, presented by Hill Country Flyers.

Not a lot of details yet but I can tell you a few things.

Three rounds of 21 holes with a final 9 for the top 4 Open Pros.

ZiegenBock Texas 10 Points Qualifier, with $2/player going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

There WILL be a host hotel. La Quinta is once again board. This national chain of hotels has become quite disc golf friendly over the last year, thanks in large part the way that golfers tend to patronize their sponsors. As soon as we know the rate, I'll post it here as well as include it in an email.

More details will follow in the coming months, but I wanted to make sure a thread got started that included the basics.

Any questions? Feel free to call me at 512-756-7127 or email to mark@zeecon.com. Details will also be posted to www.hillcountryflyers.com (http://www.hillcountryflyers.com) as they become available. The site is only a temporary placeholder now, but it is being designed right now and will be complete by the Victoria Open.

See y'all in Corpus.

when can i register??
will this qualify me for am worlds in kansas city??
will the finals be for all divisions??
can i play in the e pool if my friend is in the c pool or my daughter in the b pool at the same time???

soory..i thought this was the 2002 miami am worlds thread and got carried away /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

good luck in your first year of torture.err.tding martyr... at least you have a lot of supportive people around you to make things easier /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 12 2003, 08:48 AM
Keith, you'll be able to register on Titledisc.com (thanks for asking /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif), very soon, but since you're a pro player, I am afraid this won't help you with your quest to play Am Worlds in KC. Furthermore, from what I hear on this board concerning you and your daughters skill, if you play well enough you might end up on the same card, so don't worry about that. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

(Sorry)

Thanks for the well wishes. You're right, I couldn't have a better support system around me than my dg'ing friends and all the great golfers that populate this wonderful area.

P.S. If you really DO make it out to any of our events this year, I'll make sure you have a place to stay. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Nope, unfortunately I have never played in Corpus. I'm hoping to make it for this one, but since I'll have a baby to deal with at that time, there is no telling, till just before the event.

See you in Victoria FOR SURE!!!!

Jan 13 2003, 10:29 AM
That's true, my friend. Kids are wonderful but they do have a tendency to demand a schedule all their own. You won't mind, though. I'm sure you'll make a great dad. I hope Kris is well. Tell her I said hi. See you in Victoria.

There are a lot of memorable holes on that course. Do yourselves a favor and go check it out when you get a free day.

What I'm really looking forward to is the Open Pro final 9 at West Guth. There's gonna be some extra cool, double secret probabtion holes that are gonna rock. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill 'ya. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 14 2003, 02:17 PM
hole 17 is a doozie along with hole 16 across the creek (again), 15 is a fun hole that can turn ugly with the wind. hole 14, watch out for the b-ball court, and ahh, hole 13, all along the creek (which I am not sure the tee-box is still there). hole 12 well, depends on tee-box location, (extreme difference) hole 12 a great hole with like the best place to live in Texas right behind the hole. you can putt from the back yard! after you cross the creed. ok I will finish this course review after lunch. boss is buying so I am flying

please note the tee-box variations are over 100 feet in most cases.

Jan 14 2003, 02:19 PM
oops numbered them wrong, starts from hole 16 instead of 17. 17 and 18 are not as difficult as the rest...

Jan 14 2003, 03:35 PM
hole number three is highly guarded by mesquite tree. hole 4 is a blind up hill shot. five well, how do you say loooooooong with the basket in the middle of a small.... you have to see it, but if you miss the putt you may be taking a few steps backwards for your next one. anyways as you can vision it is a great course challenging way over par course! hope to see lots there!

I've heard from a few different people, who are planning on trying to make their way down to West Guth to get in a round or two over the next month or so. Let me know how it goes and be sure to tell the locals on the course (if you see any), who's comin' to dinner. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I met a couple of guys when I was down there who were really happy that a tourney was planned that could bring players out to see their course. The club down there has been kind of fragmented, but the City of C.C. has hooked me up with a good DG contact, Michael Smith. Good relations between some of us wandering, traveling players and the local guys, and a good tourney experience in September could go a long way toward generating a stronger local base for this deserving course. It needs an active and passionate club to care for it. Drop me a line before you go and I'll get you Michael's email addy.

Also wanted to pass this along if you're heading out there to practice up. #1 will have a long tee. The short one (which is marked) is in the clump of trees along the residential fence line to the left. To the right of that and back up near the sidewalk that runs perpendicular to the fairway, is where the long tee will be.

All Advanced and Pro divisions will play both tees over the weekend so try 'em all out. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jan 16 2003, 10:11 AM
gulp! so we have to play the one in the corner by the pig?

Jul 09 2003, 10:39 AM
I've heard over the last few days that some folks were confused about the locale of this event. It is in Corpus at West Guth, not in Ingleside. I'm not sure if there's any confusion out there about this, but I heard that there might be so I wanted to bring the thread back up. I'll have some info on this event coming very soon so, as usual...STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 09 2003, 10:51 AM
The locals were wanting it to be at Ingleside, thats where this started......according to a little bird, that talked to the local pro little bird there, a week or three ago.

I havent played either, so West Guth is fine by me....

How far apart are they? Both would be even better!! (but more of a headache for you) /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Jul 09 2003, 11:09 AM
Both would be super and I would've already made it the plan except for the fact that they're 45 minutes apart.

To be honest, Ingleside was never part of the plan because when I first decided to throw this little shindig, I didn't even know it existed. I have since been told by a couple of the friendly locals that it would be a great place to hold an event and will probably work it into my plans for next year, if I'm wanted. I'll be looking to add one event to my total next season and to replace one that I won't be running again. Ingleside is definitely on my mind as a possibility for Evolution 2004.

Jul 09 2003, 11:11 AM
BTW, if anyone has Bruce's email addy, please share it with me. I tried contacting him at the one he gave me the other night and it bounced back. I need to get him a copy of the Sponsorship kit. Thanks.

Jul 09 2003, 12:51 PM
Mark, you know you are always welcome in cc.Guth is a great park,But in case any of you dragons are out there,I got your back. At the front entrance to the park there is a big sign that says NO CRUZITAS ALLOWED. Mark call me on my cell 3615106699

Dat you, Billy boy? Back in CC, eh?

Jul 09 2003, 03:14 PM
ps: You got room for an ol' Colonel? I got beer. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 09 2003, 04:19 PM
Mark, go see Ingleside before you committ to it. I think it is a pretty lame course myself. It is full of sand, stickers, and silly holes (how is that for aliteration). I personally think that West Guth is the way to go.

What divisions will play what tees at West Guth? I want to make sure that my little brother practices what he will be playing.

Jul 09 2003, 04:45 PM
Hi Curtis, Wassup? Don't misunderstand me, the Coastal Clash at West Guth is ON and hopefully will be a part of the annual Evolution Series events for a long time to come.

Ingleside was something I was thinking about as an addition to next year's series. There are a few golfers and perhaps a few sponsors that would like to see an event there next season.

I have some big plans for Evolution next year and it would be great to find even two more places to hold top notch events as part of it. Ingleside won't replace West Guth. If anything, it'll be added to my schedule.

Now, having said that, can someone tell me where the place in C.C. will be to have the player's party? /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Jul 09 2003, 04:50 PM
BTW, as far as committing before I see it, I understand what you mean. However, I committed to the Clash before seeing West Guth. I'd say that worked out pretty darn well. Anyone who hasn't seen that course is missing one of the lesser known gems of Texas DG courses. Bulee dat, playa. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 10 2003, 02:55 AM
I wouldn't say 18 under is a likely score. I'm sure Bruce can get quite a few down out there. Depends on the favorable winds or not. It is definately the best course south of San Antonio.

Jul 10 2003, 08:00 AM
"A" nice What-A-Burger? There's one on every corner. How about some place on the beach? Super Soft putters make great beach frisbees.

Jul 10 2003, 11:35 AM
Mark, I didn't mean to introduce more confusion. I say go for Ingelside if you want to make a seperate event for next year. I just didn't think that having it there in lieu of West Guth or concurrently would be a good idea (again referring to next year).

From the blue tees the course is pretty tough. It definitely is not a pitch and putt course. I think I remember Bruce saying his best from the blues is a -7. I'm not sure about that though. My best out there is -3. There are some birdies out there, but there are also some bogey holes as well. There is even a decent bit of elevation to contend with. Like Javier said, the difficulty lies in the wind, not so much the course. There are consistent 20 mph winds out there. For you Houston guys, think Hitchcock.

As for a players party, what kind of place are looking for? Are you looking for a place to sit and eat or a place for some beer drinking and merry making? Or both?

Mark, what tees are ams going to play? Short, long, or a little of both. Thanks.

Jul 10 2003, 11:36 AM
Edit: Bruce shot a -7, but he is also a stuid-ridiculous-big arm.

Jul 10 2003, 11:49 AM
Curtis, Food and Alcohol are a must, for a players party!

Jul 10 2003, 12:29 PM
Food, alcohol, merriment and lies ("You should've seen that putt!") are all part of a good player's party. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Curtis, my hope is that all divisions will get a mix of tees and pin positions. Nothing's in stone yet.

Discuss amongst yourselves. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 12 2003, 12:12 PM

how close is this tournament to being full, Mark?

Jul 19 2003, 10:36 PM
Hey B, since I haven't gotten it up on Titledisc yet we've got room. With most of my prep work now completed on LOSO, the big CC push starts in earnest on Monday (if I survive the heat of the Farenheit /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif ). We do have some entries for the Clash, but we've still got plenty of spots.

Since he brought it up though, everyone please remember that this will be a 21 hole, 1 course event. The field will be capped and we will end up with a waiting list (trust me). I'll post as soon as we're up online and you'd be advised not to wait. I've been talking to folks for months about how much they're looking forward to making a pilgrimage to the coast for this one.

I can't wait to get back to my fun TD work. A 15 today at Veteran's showed me exactly why, as a disc golfer, I make a good TD. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

I've played that 9 hole in Harlingen once. I don't know how big a tourney you can have there. I don't think there's even enough room left in the park for a practice basket much less 9 more holes.

Jul 21 2003, 03:00 PM

Jul 22 2003, 02:58 PM
Is there any pro's in Corpus? Mark is this the same course, or is there two courses in Corpus?

Jul 22 2003, 03:15 PM
This is the course in West Guth Park, Chile. I believe its the same one that was used for the last big event in Corpus, that took place a few years ago. BillyN can straighten us out on that. I believe Thunder and V-man played in it also.

There will be 3 cool temp holes for a total of 21. There is another course in Ingleside, but that's not being used for The Clash.

Maybe it will come into play next year, however, as we look to expand our HCF tourney schedule. I have no life, evidently. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 29 2003, 09:49 AM
Looking forward to playing this course.....never even been to Corpus.

Jul 29 2003, 12:38 PM
The entry form is in the very capable hands of Titledisc. There were a few factors (busy season for tourneys, Am Worlds the same weekend, etc.) that caused my estimate of the size of the field for the LOSO to be a tad off. I don't think this will be the case with The Clash. This is truly an awesome course that most Texas golfers don't get a chance to play and hasn't hosted a sanctioned event in 3 years, I think. With only 1 course and 21 holes, this event will fill. I'll post back here as soon as the Titledisc page is live, but don't wait too long after that.

One more important thing. After some hard feelings and disappointment brought on by the failure of some players to get in to my previous two events this year, I made a point to tell people that if they would call me and promise to show, I'd list them on the players list and hold a spot for them. Maybe I shouldn't have done this, but I try to be as accomodating to my players as I can.

Well, after some of these players who promised to be there if I'd hold a spot for them didn't show, causing Amie and I a bunch of extra headache prior to the first 2 minute call and forcing us to shuffle some cards while players were on the field waiting, that's the end of that. I regret to say that I will no longer be able to hold unpaid spots for anyone, even my closest friends due to the hassles that this has caused. Its not fair to me, my staff or the other players who handle their business the way they are supposed to.

Please pre-register on Titledisc (preferred), send a check to me at 305 W. 4th St. Burnet, TX 78611 (acceptable), or be there for Friday doubles or prior to 8 a.m. on Saturday (a gamble) to register. These will be the only ways to guarantee your spot in this or any other future Evolution Series event. Thank you to all those who always handle their business the right way.

Metal-Mike when you come down give me a call.3615106699, Ill be more then happy to play with you .BY THE WAY JUST GOT WORD THAT CRUZ IS MOVING TO CORPUS,WELCOME BACK TO SOUTH TEXAS.Im not sure on the beer in the park but we have not ever had a problem.

Jul 29 2003, 01:32 PM
capt klank, I am planning on going down in a week or two, I will try and let you know so I can see what local do at Guth. I have played the course several times, but there is not any other golfers on the course?

Jul 29 2003, 03:41 PM
Mark, I would wager the Z-baoz PHAT Ace pot, is why D/FW had such a poor turnout.....(poor compared to expectations)

Shame the 105 person cap before ghosts, will keep the numbers down, otherwise, i would think a great turnout, woudl be had, since most people havent ever played there.

Jul 29 2003, 03:54 PM
Actually Cong, I think we'll be capping the Clash field at 100, before ghost cards (which we won't allow more than 2 of) in order to allow us to shuffle around some uneven divisional cards.

And you're correct. I think the Z-Boaz huge ace pot did affect the DFW LOSO turnout. Not that I can blame anyone for taking a shot at close to 3 grand just for throwing a golf disc on a pretty day in the park, but anyone who wasn't there sure missed out.

Jul 29 2003, 05:31 PM
Got a room at Motel 6 (sorry, Ma). The one on S. Padre Island Dr. It's probably about 18-20 miles from the course, but closer to the beach. Could use a couple roomies. kent@chumleyrep.com

Sorry, I left some info off when I submitted the entry form and Brad, being the observant fella that he is, caught it and is fixing it now. It'll be up soon, no sweat.

I've heard that we might be having an MM2 division Harry. Could this be a preview of all the guys who'll be vying for 2nd place at States?

Harry, Chu'...very cool. How about some Coronas on the beach? I'm hoping to get down there by about 7:30 Friday evening, so I may just hit the beach after I check in.

Officially stating I will not be making this tournament Kent...Mark. Lost the A/C in the house so money has to go in a new direction for this month. BUMMER!

Aug 01 2003, 01:59 PM
I would like to see the shirt that Stephen made. I still don't know if I will play in this tournament because I feel there will be no competition at this tournament. Who is this Billy Nelson guy? Can he play? Is he a wanna be disc golfer? Who is the course pro in Corpus Christi, Tx.? Let whoever needs to know that Cruzita is moving to Corpus Christi,Tx. and I will be the one to beat there. "COME GET SOME"!!!!

Aug 01 2003, 02:19 PM
Bruce Talamantes is, as far as i know....Billy will be out of town that weekend, on business.

Looking forward to it!

Aug 01 2003, 02:26 PM
There's the Cruz we all know! Watch out Cruzita, Billy's moved up and he's coming for YOU!

I feel a doubles challenge coming on. Team Bagger vs. Cruz and whoever he can get to put up with him. Don't be a skeert!

Aug 01 2003, 02:47 PM
I'll play with you Cruz, that is if you're playing open. So when are you moving to Corpus?

Aug 01 2003, 02:51 PM
Wait a minute Smokin'. I may have to rethink this challenge thing. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 01 2003, 03:08 PM
I will be playing advanced for yet another year! I already have a partner Joe, besides I would not pick you as my partner because you have no skills. My partner is Mark Vargas and we would be glad to take your money: Mark Atwood and Billy Nelson. I have nothing to prove to you Joe T. or Jerry " El Chilon " Perez because I beat you both here in Lubbock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be concentrating on my game more this year than ever. "COME GET SOME"

Aug 01 2003, 03:29 PM
another YEAR I thought you were playing OPEN at OUTLAWS ?? you [*****]

Aug 01 2003, 03:32 PM
Are you reading this Billy? I know you're not gonna be able to play in the Clash on the weekend, but can you make Friday doubles? Team Bagger needs to teach Mr. Rangel a lesson. I feel bad for Mr. Vargas getting caught up in the whooping like that, but when you associate with folks like Cruz, you're bound to catch an *** whipping from time to time.

SMACK!

Aug 01 2003, 03:56 PM
Say Mr. Mark (I want to learn how to play disc golf someday) Atwood, Team "SURF" is ready to ride your arses. Billy will not get on this board because he has two things going for him: FEAR AND COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!! Name the place and the time and team "SURF" will be there.

Aug 01 2003, 04:05 PM
Team SURF? What is that? Does that refer to how you'll have to ride Vargas' back to shoot well? I hope Mark's shoulders don't get sore from carrying your arse around.

If my partner's in town, Team Bagger will be ready for Team SURF, even though it doesn't seem fair to Mark. Kinda like 2 against 1, but its cool with me if he can handle it.

SMACK!

Aug 01 2003, 04:29 PM
Mark, did I hear side-bet?

Aug 01 2003, 04:53 PM
I ain't askeert (at least not as long as I got Billy's big arm backing up my smack from the teebox). We've teamed up for dubs twice now and we have a 1st place and a 2nd place to show for it. He's got me covered on the big throws and we've both been playing real good short golf and putting well when we play together.

I'll check with my partner, but I'm not afraid of a little side bet action.

Aug 04 2003, 03:54 PM
I've played the five courses down that way: Corpus Guth (similar to Lubbock), Corpus Lamar (small, short), Ingleside (flat, mostly under/around trees, good course), Harlingen (nine, short, play if in area, don't make the drive otherwise), Del Rio (short, did not get to play full course, one time per year rain storm caused a raging river right through the middle). Appologies for the Corpus contingent for letting Cruz out of his Lubbock cage. He will get things 'goin down there...be preparte to GET SOME. Lastly, I travel extensively with my next trip being Corpus/Harlingen....I need a game(s) for me and my son Stephen....Corpus Guth Sunday 10th apx 5:00, Harlingen Monday afternoon, Corpus/Ingleside Tuesday and possible Corpus early am Wednesday. Takers? (e-mail or call 806-798-8386)

Aug 04 2003, 05:09 PM
I am only going to play pro in non sanctioned events until the TX10 Final, and of course, I have no choice at USDGC......the TX10 Final will be my last am event.

Aug 04 2003, 06:52 PM
You gotta be kidding.

Aug 04 2003, 07:17 PM
Why would you say that, Tom? Someone who's been playing a year testing the Pro waters unsanctioned for a couple of months before moving full time to Open bother you or something? /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 04 2003, 10:11 PM
Tom don't be a HATER!!!!Justin is a class ACT.HE has numerous 1st place finishes under his belt in the advanced division including his 1st place finish in the AM WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!! As if I needed to mention that.

Aug 05 2003, 08:20 AM
Well, normally, when someone beats about 210 players to win Am worlds, they turn pro. Does Chris actually allow someone who cashes in open at a Texas 10 even to play advanced at the final? I'd verify that with him, Justin.

Aug 05 2003, 08:43 AM
The final is a sanctioned event, the others aren't. Its that simple. There's nothing to verify.

Ever since the ZT10 started (way back when it was just T10 /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif), Texas' top Advanced players have been trying out the feel of their Pro shoes in these events and finishing out the season in sanctioned events in Advanced.

Of course I won't be surprised if people don't want to see young guys who are trying to train themselves to compete at the highest levels break into it gradually. For some reason I've noticed a lot of disc golfers have a sick need to see other people fail, at least at first, when moving up.

That may not be the case with you Tom and Kent, but you surely know what I'm speaking of.

Aug 05 2003, 08:46 AM
Justin,Do what you want, just dont take the cash then nobody can say squat.you've got the skills man their just scared .Whats up Cruz, where's the smack.when are you coming down.

Aug 05 2003, 09:48 AM
Just wanted to let folks know that La Quinta has stepped up once again. They've given us rooms that normally run $70/night for 2 adults for $55/night flat rate with up to four adults. To take it even a step further, they've blocked out rooms for us at both Corpus Christi locations, one of which is on I-37 five minutes from the park and the other location, closer to downtown on South Padre Island Dr..

As in the past, please call them directly and ask for the Coastal Clash rate, rather than using their 800 number.

The phone number for the I-37 location (north) is 361-888-5721, and the downtown site (south) is 361-991-5730. I've really enjoyed our relationship with La Quinta's in Texas and hopefully next year, if we turn out in some good numbers for them the rest of the year, we can get even better rates. They are very happy about being the DG hotel of choice in Texas, so let's make sure to treat them right and show them that we're a group of consumers deserving of their committment.

In other Clash news,
pre-registrations are starting to come in from titleDISC.com. With a capped field and a limited number of holes to put y'all on, this will fill. Don't wait, signup today. Your TD will love you for it. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 05 2003, 10:12 AM
Come on Tom, I think you've been playing JV as long as I've known you. It's about time you test the Pro waters, sanctioned or non. Don't be skeered, it will only help your game. Justin, we'll be waiting for you.

Aug 05 2003, 11:23 PM
What I said has nothing to do with Justin's character or about being a hater, I have never met Justin. I don't know him, but am proud of his big win and am happy for the guy. I also want to see him kick [*****] in the pro ranks. I would never wish for anyone to fail but just get better. My thought is after winning a World Championship in disc golf it is hard to imagine sticking around for 1 more tournament. But it is just my opinion and means nothing really, just an opinion.

Vargas, your post just reinforces mine so I don't know where you are coming from.

Joe, when is the last time you saw me on a disc golf course? May?

No need for everybody to get worked up over someone wondering why a well deserving World Champ doesn't play up.

Justin, Congratulations on your win. From everything I have heard you are very deserving of it. Good shootin.

Aug 06 2003, 02:14 AM
Just how long has Justin been playing anyway ?

Aug 06 2003, 10:51 AM
Played in his first tournament 364 days before becoming Advanced Men's World Champ. First touched a golf disc in March 2002.

Wow.

Aug 06 2003, 10:59 AM
And now, back to your regularly scheduled Clash info.

Pre-registrations are rolling in on titleDISC and through the fine folks at the U.S. Postal Service. I'll post a player's list when we get closer but trust me, this baby will fill. I may have been wrong about LOSO filling, but even then we drew as many as I'm capping the field at for this one.

La Quinta's already taken a couple of reservations. Seems that this event is moving ahead pretty quickly.

I'm working on a couple of other things that I'll be happy to announce when I can, so, as usual...STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Aug 06 2003, 11:02 AM
Mark can we play thur night or not? Checked on the course and there are some holes we can move .when are you coming before the clash we need to look at some things .

Aug 06 2003, 11:04 AM
So TOM! when or are you ever going to step up and play PRO? skeered! Justin is doing it RIGHT! so whats your excuse?

Aug 06 2003, 11:20 AM
Chile, maybe when I start playing again. Have you seen my player rating, if you had I bet you would stop your rant. Also, Justin is a much better golfer than me obviously, so if he is doing it right, how am I doing it wrong by playing adv.?

Also, it is a longshot to call it PRO, OPEN maybe, but not PRO, that is for another thread I guess.

BTW, my player rating is not even 900!! Yeah baby, play pro, play pro!!!

Aug 06 2003, 11:31 AM
When are we gonna get to see you back on the course, Tom? How's the shoulder? Hope you're doing better and I look forward to seeing you throwing again. ZT10 Lago perhaps?

Billy, gimme a call today if you get a chance. We'll talk about it. I had a couple of questions for you too.

Chile, welcome back, the board ain't the same without 'ya. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 06 2003, 11:48 AM
Thanks Mark, I had to take care of some family matters, things should be getting better. I guess I'm grandpa Chile for now./msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif The grandpa thing is going to take some time to get use too.

Aug 06 2003, 11:51 AM
Just had to rag on you TOM! sorry about your players rating maybe you can move down to ams? until you get your ratings back up.

Aug 06 2003, 12:07 PM
Mark, I have just decided to stop playing. The shoulder is fine for the most part. What happened was I moved to the lake and bought a boat so all my free time is spent on Lake Austin. When the boating season ends I'm sure I will play again. I stopped having fun so I realized I just had to stop playing completly.

Back to the Coastal Clash!

Aug 06 2003, 12:34 PM
Tom, I know EXACTLY what you mean. It happened to me as well. Hadn't played in a few month until Waco. Taking time off DOES give you a new perspective. Of course, I threw my back out half way through the second round..... I will be playing the Clash, though. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Good excuse to go to Corpus.

Aug 06 2003, 12:57 PM
I too can relate, Tom, but I took a little different path. Over the last couple of years, I seemed to finish the last 1 or 2 rounds of every event on the DFL card. Not only is that no fun, but with an ego the size of mine, there's only so much of that I could handle. Probably a character flaw on my part (nobody's perfect, least of all me), but nonetheless, it had me in such a bad mental state that tournaments weren't fun anymore.

However, I have such a need to compete and be around all the folks that I get to hang with at tournaments that not playing them anymore wasn't an option. I swallowed a little bit of pride and moved down to utilize the player ratings system that was designed for folks just like me. Since then, my attitude, confidence, fun factor and, most importanly, my game have all improved. I have every intention of moving back up and that's what this move was all about, to get my game where I want it to be and be forced up based on the merit of improved play. Just something to think about.

You could always come staff the Clash, if you don't wanna play. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Back to the Clash again.

Aug 06 2003, 01:14 PM
Ma, I just called LaQ south and they had no info about special rates for this tournament. The lady I spoke with is supposed to have the general manager call me back. Any suggestions?

Aug 06 2003, 01:34 PM
I just got a call from someone else with the same problem. I've called the north location and they're going to call their manager, who is on board with us, and she'll straighten them out. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif No sweat, I'll post here when I hear back from them. It was supposed to be in their computer already, so it'll be no problem. Probably just a miscommunication between the manager and the on-site employees. I know some people had already made reservations so maybe its just this employee or shift.

Aug 06 2003, 01:41 PM
Okay /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

$45 Adv. Divisions
$35 Int. Divisions
$25 Rec. Divisions
$5 Ace Pot

on-line registration:
http://www.titledisc.com

Aug 08 2003, 01:57 PM
Its all on titleDISC.com, Mr. Salazar. Schmack-Daddy has all the prices right, but is a tad off on the doubles thing. As with every Evolution Series, HCF Flex Dubs will preceed the weekend's festivities on Friday. The entry for that ($10/man) is also on titleDISC, but there will be plenty of spots available for doubles signups Friday afternoon, so no sweat there.

What Cong, just 'cause I'm playing doubles you think we ain't doing it? Actually I received a committment from a very qualified volunteer this morning that will not only allow me to play dubs, but I can probably get Amie to caddy for me as well. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 08 2003, 02:03 PM

BTW, if anyone isn't able to signup via the miracle of titleDISC, or doesn't want to (shame, shame) email me at mark@hillcountryflyers.com and I'll email you an entry form you can mail in the old fashioned way.

My recommendation for the best and most worry free way to make sure you get in is titleDISC. Your TD will love you for it. /clipart/smile.gif

Anyway, when ya gonna have a summer tourney down here at Riverside? It's a whole nuther course with leaves on the trees!! Bruce T. from Corpus is suppose to move here soon. Cool, we'll finally have a course pro!! The hurricane tore us up pretty bad, but the city is makin' it playable again. Believe it or not, we had no damage to baskets, tee boxes or signs!!! Just alot of trees are no longer with us! Well thats it for now Peace out......

Hey Mark what number are you capping the Coastal Clash? How many are in so far?

Aug 10 2003, 09:43 PM
Hey Jason, how's it going? There may be a little info regarding a summer event at Riverside next year, but its top secret. If I told you, I'd have to kill 'ya. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif And the loss of those threes is a lot more important than some baskets and signs. In the words of Mr. Houck, after the hurricane devastation, "Baskets are a lot easier to replace than trees." I couldn't agree more. As for the CE Roc, come to the Coastal Clash and be sure to buy some raffle tickets. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jeff, wazzup? I've stated that we'll be capping the field at 100, although a ghost card or two is a reluctant possiblity. Not guaranteed though, so don't count on it. As for where we stand now, I won't be posting a players list until we get a little closer, but my advice to you is not to wait. Trust me.

Mr. Bender, if you can't beat me, you should complain. Heck, maybe you should quit. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif Don't worry, I'm only playing dubs on Friday, so you won't have to worry about the shame that goes along with getting beat by me in a tourney.

James, I'm not ready to give out the numbers yet but we're a little bit over what I wrote to you last Wed. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Hey Ma, looks like I'm not gonna make it. ANTHRAX is playing at Fitzgerald's on the 6th. I've never seen them live and the new album is kick-[*****]. Still gonna play the "CTC". See ya States weekend.

Titledisc is CC only(paypal), but still plenty of time to either snail mail an entry, or find Mark in person.

Titledisc taps my checking account when I register.

Aug 11 2003, 01:33 PM
I cant believe, anyone woudl give theri bank account info to an online site, with the hackers we have in this world.

CC's are bad enough, but at least they usuallyhave some sort of fraud protection.

titledisc does not tap your bank account, it is paypal that does that processing. paypal is one of the most trusted and secure sites on the net.

Aug 11 2003, 03:43 PM
/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Ive dealt with paypal for a few years, and never had a problem....but they arent tapping directly into the bank account.

Aug 11 2003, 06:07 PM
So, when are you charged at the day of the event or when you sign up?

Aug 11 2003, 07:53 PM
I have used PayPal for years and never had a problem. They take the money from my checking account. All my research indicates PayPay is a very secure site but there always a chance of being hacked anytime you go online. It sure makes it a breeze to signup for all these tourneys. See y'all at Lago.

Aug 12 2003, 08:55 AM
Matchu, when you sign up.....

Aug 13 2003, 12:33 AM
PayPal is great. titleDISC is great. Brad is great. West Guth is great. La Quinta is great. The beach is great. Miller Lite is great. Everything's great.

Waiting to get in to the Clash is definitely not great.

Aug 13 2003, 11:02 AM
SIGN UP TODAY, or cry about it later, when you show up , and cant get in, and we all start laughing at you, after handing you an entry form, for Cold Turkey Classic, in November, the final (maybe) stop on the Evolution Tour, for 2003.

he cant give you an EXACT count, without calling Titledisc, and pretty sure that wont happen.

As of now, I would wager there are plenty of spots, but you better hurry.....

Aug 14 2003, 03:03 PM
There's plenty of spots right now B, as my associate correctly stated. They won't last, but we're not half full yet. I expect over the next week or so it'll get hot and heavy and with the field capped at 100, they'll go fast when it heats up.

Metal, I should be able to meet you Thursday. What type of place you staying at in Port A.
Does anyone know if camping is allowed on the beach?

Aug 21 2003, 03:13 PM
Metal, things are looking great, to answer your question. The city just mowed and according to Capt. Klank its looking fanfreakintastic! Those of you that haven't seen this course and are imagining what a Corpus Christi course would look like, don't get a picture in your head unless you like being wrong. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Its one of the coolest courses around and nothing like what I thought prior to seeing it.

On the Clash news front, I'd like to announce that Joe's Crab Shack will be there on Saturday to serve us lunch. Not sure of the menu yet but it'll be a hot meal with 2 sides for $5! Can't beat it. There won't be lunch brought to the course on Sunday, since its only 1 round and an Open Pro final 9 and out. If you'd like to grab a bite inbetween all the Sunday action, however, there's definitely a couple of places close that you could get to and get back easily.

A big thanks to Billy Nelson for being my local contact and for setting up our lunch sponsor and helping out in every way he can. He's been invaluable to our efforts in CC. I don't have to worry about him getting a big head though, since he's in Austin today and away from his computer. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Aug 22 2003, 10:11 AM
Don't forget to put me down as paid in full. I would also like to thank Billy for the 5 bucks I won from him last night.

Aug 22 2003, 02:24 PM
Mark Atwood or Chris Himing,so for this tourny we get extra points on our ZTX10 standings? or is there a max. in extra points? please explain.

sciencet_cher
Aug 26 2003, 03:00 PM
Wow! Is this tourny a week and a half or a year and a half away? Just not seeing much discussion about it. I know that I am looking forward to getting out of SA for the weekend.

Aug 26 2003, 03:28 PM
Mark Atwood are you going to be at OutLaws? I would like to square up with you before the tourny.I will be at Corpus Christi around 3-4 pm. is there going to be doubles?

Aug 26 2003, 03:45 PM
I think folks are fired up James. I talked to a several people over the Lago weekend that were really looking forward to it. I also took a few entries in person.

I'll be posting our first players list in a couple of days. There is also some other news forthcoming regarding the Clash so keep your eyes here.

I've received very positive responses from our announcement that Joe's Crab Shack will be doing lunch on Saturday. Ever more positive when I tell folks that the standard $5 price still applies. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'm going to call La Quinta to see how our bookings are going, but with their gracious offer to allow the rate to apply to both CC locations, there shouldn't be a problem getting rooms. These guys have been on board all year so let's support them and do ourselves a favor by trying to encourage an even better rate and participation for next year's Evolution Series.

...STAY TUNED! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Aug 26 2003, 03:50 PM
El Chile, not playing OSS. Probably out there early Fri. though.

Don't sweat your spot at The Clash. Of course I'll hold one for a member of Team Evolution. Call it a sponsorship perk. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

HCF Flex Dubs, as per our standard, will be held Friday, Sept. 5th, from 1-5 p.m. Pros, Adv. and Am divisions will be offered with Pros getting cash and all amateurs receiving merchandise.

Speaking of merchandise, the new Evolution caps and polos will be here in time for The Clash.

ATTENTION! IMPORTANT FORMAT INFO!

We are making a few interesting, but hopefully fun format changes for the Coastal Clash. Please read them carefully as they are somewhat different than our standard HCF format. They are as follows:

Friday: No Flex Doubles

Saturday: Mandatory Players Meeting at High Noon. 1st Round Tee-off at 12:30 p.m.. An early dinner will be served at the course by Joe's Crab Shack at 4 p.m.. There will be a fun unsanctioned round of Shotgun Start Pick Your Partner Doubles after dinner, teeing off at 5 p.m..

Sunday: 2nd Round Tee-off at 9 a.m.. Joe's Crab Shack will serve lunch on the course after the morning round. The 3rd and final round start time will be announced as soon as we have an idea how long lunch will take. Awards will be handed out as quickly as possible to get everyone on their way home.

This is basically the same format as advertised (3 rounds of 21 holes) with the exception of shotgun doubles on Saturday instead of flex start dubs on Friday and the elimination of the top 4 Open Pro final 9 (which wasn't skins anyway).

With the late start on Saturday, travelling players will be able to get some sleep on Friday and still have plenty of time to drive in on Saturday morning or sleep in if they had a little too much fun in town the night before. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif With the opportunity to have a late start, I'm gonna try to line up something for us to do Friday night. I also hear that legendary Austin music scene hero Toni Price will be in Corpus Christi that weekend and we may just get a bunch of us together to go catch her show. I do know that several people have already booked rooms for Friday evening and if they want to get together for a random draw doubles round that afternoon, we'll try to accomodate them.

For those of you wondering, I know this isn't ideal, however we will make it work and we'll have fun doing it. Evidently, when the city told me there were no events scheduled for our date in the park when I planned this event several months ago, they were unaware of the high school cross country track meet that is slated for that Saturday. One reason for this is because, according to City Hall, the school district never turned in their schedule in May as they normally do each year. With several hundred runners, these folks will take up too much of the park to allow us to stay on our previously planned schedule. However, they will be done and gone in time for us to hold to the schedule I've posted above.

There should still be enough room for practicing on most of the holes that morning, however, for those who want to do that. On that note, the 3 temp holes will be marked and flagged as early as Friday if at all possible to give you more of a look at them.

Don't be skeert of this little speed bump. We're gonna have some serious freaking fun on the coast and this excellent course will challenge all our golfers.

Players list tonight or possibly in the morning. Don't miss this event, its gonna be a blast! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Aug 27 2003, 05:48 PM
I was going to come, but now I cant cause Mark changed the schedule. You know that I have to come down to Corpus because I am going to need all the plastic I can get before I go to the Open ranks.
