View Full Version : Canadian Disc Golf Championship
It will be "a" tier. Will we be able to attract USA players for the Aug 2 and Aug 3, 2003 event?
considering that falls in a similar timeframe to Pro & AM Worlds, you folks may have less success attracting traveling US golfers... than if it was held at another time of year...
just a thought...
Where in Canada, I live in Washington and would probably come up if its not to far. I've been wanting to play Juan De Fuca. What other courses are really close to border?
the tournament will be in and around London, Ontario (not close to Washington. The tournament will also be part of the Can-Am series which will help with attendance.

I would think you would have success drawing top regional pros from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. <FONT COLOR="ffffff">Especially if they are unfamiliar with the London courses.</FONT>
The National Tour players might be looking at playing that Colorado A-tier on the way to Pro Worlds rather than making the long drive in the opposite direction. But money talks: advertise the payout in Canadian and the entry fee in US! /clipart/proud.gif
In the past has this tournament been open only to Canadian players? What was the PDGA thinking when they scheduled two A-tiers on August 2-3 and no pro A-tier on the previous weekend?

what they always do when it comes to schedules ??
Bruce - the payout tip was quite funny!! Those of us living so near the border would of gotten that pretty quick...
Keith - how you doing on your retirement? You plan on TD'ing a tourney soon? I still thank ya for Miami and the 'back to back' rounds was an awesome way to go!! Just recently here in A2 we had our annual Ace Race and never left the course...talk about quick!
3 more weeks to Charlotte!!!

For a good BC mainland event, try Dave Brown's Spring event at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, BC. It's usually the first week or so in May. Usually well attended with good folks, nice course, with 9 or more temporary holes added to really make it interesting.
On the downside, winning $400 bucks in Canadian isn't all it's cracked up to be...
Keith - so you only retired as a player not a td? Cool! Soon as I put my own course in, you can td for me... that way I can just say - "...like usual, it's Keith's fault!"
The spring tournament at Queen E is called Abbies Open. It is put on by James Brown. It is a great tournament followed by food and beers. It is usually the first Sat. of May. Registration fills up quickly so if you want to play check out www.bcdiscgolf.com (http://www.bcdiscgolf.com) for more info. Juan de Fuca is my home course. It is definatley worth checking out.

tomcat...it is ALWAYS my fault....
at least you have moved from a disc golf area to a disc golf area unlike myself who moved from a good disc golf area to ....well a disc golf course on a dumpsite /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
by the way... after playing in tournaments run by stan and harold and the other carolina guys you won't love me the same anymore
Thanks for the info......I'm gonna check that out
Rob, the best BC tournament is the Pender Bender, on Pender Island, memorial day weekend ( or there abouts) ps When you win Canadian money, spend it there, it goes a long ways..and the Canadian golfers are the coolest! lol
pender bender....sounds like fun.
Pender is one of the best tournaments. The next one is March 8. It is a 27 hole course with tonals not baskets. It has lot's of elevation and a jungle golf feel. The local players are wonderful and host a great tourney. Practice your putting before you come to this course and do some tree hugging for luck. Quite a few people from the Washington area attend.
This event is a litter more than a month away, anyone who is intrested in coming to play should go to www.discgolfstuff.itctv.com (http://www.discgolfstuff.itctv.com) and check out the flyer. It is an " A " teir event, played on two great, challenging courses.
Not to steal any thunder from John Mann's event in London, Ontario this summer...
The 2004 Canadian Championships will be in Kamloops, British Columbia on August 20-22 at Rose Hill DGC, BC's longest course and an unbelievable temporary venue right across the road. It will be a Can-Am event and a B Tier. BC does not have enough PDGA members to justify hosting an A Tier event yet. To date the Kamloops Disc Golf Club has secured $3,300 in added cash, and have over a year left to increase that. Our goal is A Tier added cash and prizes. The 04 event will be a must stop tourney for anyone in BC, Alberta, Washington, Oregon and Montana. Check us out at www.kdgc.com (http://www.kdgc.com)
Not to steal any thunder from you Clint, but i don't understand why the tourniment is going back to B.C as Ontario produces more discgolfers then you guys, also i was told that it was staying in Ontario from now on, but according to you, i don't think i can beleave that now,
The tournament has never been in BC to my knowledge but since it is a Canadian event why shouldn't it move around? The KDGC put a bid in to the PDGA to host the event in 2004 and were selected to host the event by Brian Hoeniger. In fact, his comments about the KDGC bid package included the words "first class". As for your comment about Ontario producing more players...you do realize Ontario has the largest population don't you?
BC is a disc golf hotbed and is experiencing growth at an unsurpassed level in course development, player development and the number of tournaments. Several recent tournaments in BC have had prize and cash payouts rivalling many big PDGA events but because they were not sanctioned events they didn't make the list. If you have any doubts about BC or the KDGC be sure to ask some of the BC or Alberta players who will be attending the 03 event.
I Realize that Brian, I wasn't making an arguement, i was just saying that i heard from so an so that it was going to be here for awhile, if not then great, you just confirmed a rumor for me,
D'oh! Brian you beat me to the post!
I have no doubt about the Discgolf in B.C, all i didn't was repeat something that i was told and look what it caused, this is supoosed to be about the 2003 EVENT, and i put this original post to promote it this year, Not the 2004 one. and i do know a few discgolfers out that way, some of them i grew up with. I THINK THAT THE REASON FOR ROB MORTON coming to the Flatts and to the CDGC are to get pople out to B.C. he has already invited us out there.
Yo Jason,
it didn't cause anything but a bit of discussion about two great events that will help establish the Canadians as a must attend PDGA event.

So are the Canadian DGCs fully open to US players? Like, if Scott Martin or Todd Branch crosses the border and wins, is he the Canadian National Champion, or does the cool maple leaf shaped trophy go to the Canadian who finished first among Canadians?
If the field remains under 72 players, will you still use both courses? The flyer is ambiguous about that. If not, which course?
Hey Bruce, Toddy can come anytime he wants, tell him to bring dave and avrey aswell, bruce you must be forgetting that we will be playing on our home course and he will have to deal with Malton, Pinniger, nick, myself and Dylan also burtchy and hatchy
I have know Todd for along time and he knows me.
Game one to any one who wants to come
EH!
Also Bruce, I am not to sure about your second question, you would have to email John Mann about that, but i do beleave that if the feild is less than 72 we would just be playing St.Julian's.
Clint. if you run into Rob Morton tell him i will give him his trophy from the Flatts Classic at this tourniment.

Today's US entry fees for the Canadian DGC, courtesy of http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html
<TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TD> </TD></TR><TR><TD>PRO</TD><TD> $150.00 CANADIAN</TD><TD> $110.18 US </TD></TR><TR><TD> </TD></TR><TR><TD>AMATEUR</TD><TD> $100.00 CANADIAN</TD><TD> $73.45 US </TD></TR><TR><TD> </TD></TR><TR><TD>JUNIOR</TD><TD> $75.00 CANADIAN</TD><TD> $55.09 US </TD></TR><TR><TD> </TD></TR><TR><TD>NOVICE</TD><TD> $60.00 CANADIAN</TD><TD> $44.07 US</TD></TR></TABLE>
Is that correct that Juniors are more than Novice or is that a typo on the flyer?
Since you are requiring preregistration, can US players send a US check for the current exchange rate, or do we have to find a bank that can do a cashier's cheque in Canadian?
And no more Ontario vs Brittish Columbia backbiting. You're all Canadian, after all, eh? It's not like you own guns, wear big hats and overthrow Third World tin pot dictators.
Hey Bruce. you will have to contact John Mann about that one, also John is taking pre-regisration on word, not cash, he will put your name down on the list and hold you a spot till you get there and then you can pay him, as for the exchange rate, i beleave he is holding out on that one, as our dollar is the best it has ever been in years, and it is fluctuating to much right know, send him an email.

If I were John, I'd lock in at 74.47 but I'm not a currency trader. For some reason, taking a shot at the Canadian Am Master Championship title really appeals to me right now. I'll have to see if I can get another good Am Master to come out with me. And if there is nothing on the social calander that weekend.
