Dan Doyle and I are excited to announce that the 2003 New York States @ Warwick will be an "A" tier event....we have filled the past 3 years, disc TV was in the house this year...next year...can you say $50 tee sponsorships?......BN

morgan
Oct 26 2002, 08:22 PM
Can you say, by invite only? Can you say, must qualify in points and rating to be invited?

Well, I can always be in the gallery or caddy for somebody...

Oct 27 2002, 01:07 AM
Great news Bill! Much thanks to you and Dan for all the hard work you guys put into setting everything up.

Yeah, Warwick!

keithjohnson
Nov 06 2002, 06:48 PM
morgan...he said a tier not national tour...you can still play unless he doesn't want you to /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Nov 07 2002, 01:42 PM
Keith, are you trying to say that a Supertour TD can't require qualifying?

jconnell
Nov 07 2002, 02:21 PM
I think Morgan's point was that this tournament filled and filled quickly the last 3 years when it was a C-tier then a B-tier...and that was mostly locals.

Now that it's an A-tier, it's going to draw people in from a even larger radius, thus making it even tougher to get into the tournament.

MORGAN SAID THIS......i don't know what he was TRYING to say.only what HE DID SAY

By Morgan Wright on Saturday, October 26, 2002 - 05:22 pm:
Can you say, by invite only? Can you say, must qualify in points and rating to be invited?

qualify in points and rating to be invited...i don't think supertours REQUIRE THAT ...yet anyways

Nov 07 2002, 09:14 PM
I think he's implying that this particular one will.

jconnell
Nov 07 2002, 09:38 PM
I think he was making one of his many many attempts at tongue-in-cheek humor.

He in no way has any power or authority to make decisions for that event.

Geez, so literal on this thread. /clipart/crazy.gif

Nov 08 2002, 03:01 AM
Yeah. I was just messing with your head.

Nov 08 2002, 07:15 AM
If nothing else Morg., thanks for keeping this dull thread going , and going and.............PS I want Hyzer creek to have the honor of being our first $100 tee sponsor....so feel free to send me a check as soon as you can....

morgan
Nov 08 2002, 07:58 AM
Yeah, then I will make a plaque honoring FDR Park at the first course to sponsor a pin at Hyzer Creek.

keithjohnson
Nov 08 2002, 08:34 AM
hey i'm the one that kept it going by giving morgan a hard time....i hope to get to meet him and others up there when i come to jersey at xmas time....i wiant to play warwick.....keith

Nov 08 2002, 10:19 AM
Bill, any truth to the rumor that AMs will play a different weekend and it will be only for pros? Or will the cutoff for AMs depend on how many pros show up first?

If I get a tee sign sponsor will that guarantee that I get to play? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Nov 08 2002, 01:49 PM
Dan, no seperate weekend, we hopefully will not be able to to accept that many non-pros. I say hopefully, cuz we want/need alot of pros to make the pro purse ($) requirements. If you get a tee sponsor and pre reg early enuf that will gaurantee you a spot..BN...ps dont forget about trying to get a basket sponsor for FDR...and thanks again for the help, it means alot to have a good turnout and get ALOT of work done..

Nov 08 2002, 01:55 PM
or, of course, you could play pro...

Nov 08 2002, 01:56 PM
PPS tee sponsorships will be $100

morgan
Nov 08 2002, 08:13 PM
So, if I sponsor a tee and play in the pro master division and sign up a year early, I get to play an A-Tier event even though I [*****]? Sweet.

Nov 08 2002, 09:53 PM
Hell Morgan, you can probably sign up on the day-of and play the Minnesota Majestic.

By BILL NEWMAN on Monday, January 06, 2003 - 10:55 pm:

keith

Jun 05 2003, 08:14 PM
ok, now that the Animal fest is a sweet and soggy memory, its time to turn to the NY STATES....Im looking to line up as many $100 Tee sponsors as soon as I can, then try to hit up a bunch more folks to really add a nice amount to the payout. here's who is in so far...

Jason Southwick/Pryamids $100
Morgan Wright/Hyzer Creek $100
Innova $100
Discraft $100
Revolution Bags $100
Mid Atlantic Disc Club $200
Newman family $100
FDR Park Doubles $100

so were at $900 added allready! woohoo
anybody out there who's got a business or a friend or a family member or a trust fund that can afford $100 to sponsor a tee, please get in touch. You'll get a nice laminated sign on "your" hole, and about a million mentions on this and other boards, you also will be listed in the event program etc etc...the deposit in your Karma account will be substantial. You will be supporting a wonderful course and a well established and well attended event. PDGA "A" tier, MADCI Qualifier and NEFA sanctioned. thanks for the support. Finally any and all questions and for info about volunteering opportunities at this event-get in touch! BN

I can't wait until NY States grows to be bigger than Worlds. Bigger payouts, bigger field, bigger honor, bigger in every way.

Keep it coming Bill, Dan. Who will be the first million-dollar winner in disc golf? Who will be the first disc golf millionaire?

Just played the Warwick Course (Thursday, 7/3, with my 7 year odl son). A great course and a model for other course designers to follow! However, I wish I could say as much for the directions on the web. Spent 45 minutes driving around before I found someone at the Gulf station in Warwick who knew what I was looking for. If you head north on 94/17A out of Warwick, turn left at the Sunoco Station onto Grand Street (this eventually becomes Pine Island Turnpike). Take Grand for about 4 miles, where it will veer hard left. Turn right at the veer (there is a sign for Warwick Town Park). The park is about 1 mile on the right. Hope this helps. I didn't see any of the landmarks or roads found on the web directions.
Also, I found a set of keys for a Jeep (with remote access control) on a yellow rope climbing clasp. I left them in the box on the back of the sign board by hole 1's tee. Hope they get back to their rightful owner.

Joe,

On the Warwick page on the PDGA Course Directory, did you click on the "Course Message Data Bank?" If so, you would have found directions to Warwick from just about every major locale within two hours of the course.

Cloud Man...Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to our wonderful course. hearing comments like yours helps make all the work worthwhile. as for the directions, there may not be super directions from downtown warwick because to get into downtown warwick you had to have taken one of several other main roads. there are directions from those main roads posted at various websites. warwick is the 2nd or 3rd largest town in the state of new york in terms of square miles. most of the town is back-country scenic roads so it's hard to provide directions from every possible point. one day everyone in warwick will know about the course and anyone will be able to get you to the course. thanks for enjoying our course!! dan doyle

2 concrete pads were poured on thursday on the following 6 holes: 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. they are ready to be used. it'll take some time to remove piles of dirt and groom the areas around the pads but they are playable. thanks to jeff mahler and bryan yondolino for a grueling day, with assistance from eddie nathan, bob graham, alex bollen, and timmy premus. we anticipate putting in the next 12 within a week or two. all 36 animal pads should be done by ny states.

He's not really moving down by being registered in Adv, it just appears that way because he sent the PDGA too much money.

I play one tournament per year. Never play as a pro. Can't see how anybody could be a professional if they play one tourney per year. Kind of hard to make a living that way.

Let's see:

2000 NY States adv masters DNF
2001 NY States adv masters finished 4th out of 13
2002 NY states adv masters finished DFL out of 5

Sounds like it's time to move up to pro, huh?

Aug 20 2003, 10:52 PM
So what possessed you to sign up as a pro? How to reverse your status?

http://www.pdga.com/player_class.php

Turning Pro

A player relinquishes Amateur status by registering in a Professional division with the PDGA

Reclassification

A player may change classification to a higher division upon request to the PDGA Office. A player may request reclassification to a lower division by petitioning the PDGA Competition Director. If a lower reclassification is granted, the player may not compete in the lower division for 60 days. Players who have accepted cash as a Professional have the opportunity to be reclassified as Amateur, however they will be ineligible to compete in the PDGA Amateur World Championships.

This is an A-tier event, isn't it?

morgan
Aug 21 2003, 05:27 AM
I don't know why I changed to pro with the PDGA, maybe I planned to play more this year. But this course I'm building is taking up all my time and energy so I have no time to play.

Either way, it's none of your [*****] business, "noaceyet." But if BN says I have to play pro then I'll play pro, that means I have to quit bulding this course so I can start throwing a lot more.

Oh well, Hyzer Creek has 11 holes now and that's that. Thanks a lot "noaceyet." Now I have to play and stop working on the course.

Noy can eat a wanker. Stay where youre at and be happy.

Aug 21 2003, 06:46 AM
What harsh words from somebody who's trying to bend the rules...At least I did not refer to any profanities.
I believe during check-in the TD should check everyones PDGA card anyway.
Additionally, I don't know what is the big deal? Play in the division you are registered in, or change the division, you still get a rating based on your play regardless of the division.

Aug 21 2003, 07:21 AM
I don't know who you are, but you are annoying me, why don't you put an apple on your teachers desk and go tattle on somebody, beotch.

I play adv masters because I like playing with those guys. Advanced players are cool and like to have fun, joke around, don't worry about winning. Pro players are too serious, all they care about is winning so they are always telling you not to talk, if you step on a twig and snap it they get all anal and say stop making so much noise, and they never joke and they are no fun to play with.

Moderator005
Aug 21 2003, 07:36 AM
You tried to play in a division below the one you are registered. It's a perfectly valid observation by noaceyet and you were caught. Your player ratings suggest you should play Intermediate Masters, not even Advanced Masters. Yet you are the douchebag who chose to register with the PDGA as a Pro Master, and now you are stuck there for life, unless you petition to reverse your status.

discette
Aug 21 2003, 08:04 AM
Petitioning is easy enough to do. You guys make it sound like Morgan is SOL. It seems obvious, if he has never cashed (or even played as a pro) and his ratings suggest a lower division, he won't have a problem changing to Intermediate or Advanced Master. Of course, there is the 60 day waiting period.

Call the office, Morgan.

Aug 21 2003, 08:10 AM
Morgan, consider this:

What if....you were caught during the tournament?
Rule 804.05 (3) would be in effect!

Aug 21 2003, 09:15 AM
Morgan, if you want to play as an amateur, change your status. That's it. That's all you have to do. No harm, no foul.

"Pro players are too serious, all they care about is winning so they are always telling you not to talk, if you step on a twig and snap it they get all anal and say stop making so much noise, and they never joke and they are no fun to play with."

But Morgan, you are a pro player...../msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Sorry to mess up your thread Bill. No problem with me playing pro masters, I already paid the difference in registration fee, now all I have to do is play one tourney every weekend between now and October and I'll have the skills to kick pro buttt. Tomorrow I head to Rochester for the Rochester Flying Disc Open.

Forget about Jeff Lasagna, he plays tourneys 52 weekends a year and all 6 days in between, as he's done for 7 years, he lives where there are 43 courses within 5 miles of his house, and he still can't out-throw a middle aged washed-up frisbee lid thrower from the 1970's who only plays one tourney a year and has one bad foot and a bad back and lives where the nearest course is 160 miles away.

Good shooting in worlds by the way. Congrats! You beat Climo in one or two rounds!

Bill, added cash is for anybody who travels from outside the NEFA and MADC region and wins Men's Open and/or Women's Open, not open to anybody who lives in NE or the mid atlantic states from NY to NC.

You are a lawyer so I'll list them in legalese for the bench. NE, NY, NJ, MD, DE, PA, VA, WV, NC.

People who travel, come win in men's open or women's open and claim your added cash. If locals win, I keep the cash.

BRING IT ON!

Moderator005
Aug 26 2003, 02:42 PM
Why couldn't a golfer from Nebraska (NE) win the money? Perhaps you meant NE as in New England: ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, and CT.

And what about someone who lives down the street from the White House? Can someone whose mailing address is District of Columbia, D.C., win the money?

-Jeff

Aug 26 2003, 10:44 PM
God has spoken. You drive 12 hours from NC, win the Open, and Morgan keeps the cash - BS!

Add it or keep it!

Aug 26 2003, 10:45 PM
NE ME - it's only a keystroke difference, like duck and dick

morgan
Aug 26 2003, 10:58 PM
That's funny Jeff about NE. But New England was there first, Nebraska has to find some other letters.

Noaceyet, check it out, NC is no farther than Caribou Maine is from Warwick. You jump in the car and drive it. That's not travelling. California is travelling. Texas is travelling. NC is just one tank of gas.

Aug 26 2003, 11:05 PM
OK, fair enough, why don't you take it a step further, and say that,
"if the winner had to fly in to get to the tournament, and if he wins, he can have the $200 towards his travel expenses", which I guess it is meant for.

Therefore, give it to the winner if he had to "fly in". Maybe someone decides to fly from NC to Newark...

And if nobody wins it, maybe the money can be used to buy a practice basket for the DFL in Pro Masters.

morgan
Aug 26 2003, 11:38 PM
I would like to request, noaceyet, that you only post things that will promote the sport, promote the tournie, and give a good image to NY States and Warwick. This is not the place for goofing around. Use the "How do I throw my MRV" topic for that.

Aug 27 2003, 07:21 AM
How come that whenever someone post an opinion that disagrees with Morgans he gets all ticked off? It's your money, do whatever you want to do with it, burn it - I don't care.
This is a discussion board for the NY States, and I disagree with you on your definition of "travel". TX may be a nice priceline ticket and a 2 hour drive from Newark. NC maybe 9 hours driving home after a crueling two day tournament.

But if Morgan says that my posts will not promote a good image than I shall stop posting here until next year, because I feel ashamed.

Btw, don't forget to call the PDGA if you want to play Am next year, because I'll be watching you... (cheater)

Aug 27 2003, 10:21 AM
Robert, what crawled up your sphincter and died? Morgan is doing something out of his own pocket to try and help promote the best tournament at the best course in the entire Mid Atlantic/New England area. If he wants to give $200 to the golfer with the biggest cans that's his call. It's his money! You live in NJ and have no shot at winning so what does it matter to you (or Jeff for that matter)?

Aug 27 2003, 10:32 AM
Naaah, I am just messing with his head, because he ****** me off, getting all nasty when I caught him trying to cheat. I am not mad at all, just having a little bit of fun arguing with Morgan, but now I don't know if he can handle it...

Aug 27 2003, 03:24 PM
I'm travelling from Ohio, soooooo....you're telling me I've got a chance......

morgan
Aug 27 2003, 03:48 PM
Affirmative.

Hey some of you Ohio boys are pretty good. I just did a round with Gordon Holton from Ohio. He rules. He can hit a dime with a frisbee at 150 paces. I think he won the Rochester Flying Disc Open the other day (at least he was winning by 1 stroke over Doug Corea when I left before the final 9). He's a nice guy too.

Aug 27 2003, 08:48 PM
Rob, a guy with an 860 rating who has never cashed in any Pro or Pro Masters tournament registering in Advanced Masters is not cheating. Until it was brought up here I did not even know that you couldn't register in Advanced if you had 'declared yourself' Pro when you got your PDGA membership. I was under the impression that you couldn't play Am only if you had previously cashed, and I will guess that Morgan thought the same.

So how many tee signs are YOU sponsoring for the tournament?

Aug 27 2003, 10:38 PM
NONE.

Some people have money to give, others people help out with some sweat when and where they can. Some people are single, others are married with children - as you know. Some people can spend hundreds of $$$ on sponsorships, others pay hundreds of $$$ in medical bills for their children every month. And if you want any detail on that - please e-mail me.

While Morgan's offer is admirable, it's a shame that big shots from NC like Brian Schweberger, Brian McRee, Larry Leonard, etc. are exempt from winning his money. North Carolina isn't part of the MADC, is well over 500 miles from Warwick, and by definition, isn't a Mid-Atlantic state:

Dan,

Just because I'm not forking over $100 like you to line the pockets of the touring Pros doesn't mean I can't offer my $.02, especially considering that I am Newman's assistant tournament director for the event.

Sep 03 2003, 12:57 PM
I see we disagree on more than one thing about NY States, Jeff.

I am (co)forking over $100 (split with Jim Santoro) in support of a great event with the hopes that it will lead to future great events at the best course on the East Coast. Since I usually don't have the available time to help out with things like work days at a course that is over an hour away from me I figured it was at least something I could do to help out Dan and Bill. Jim and I will also be donating our time to Bill as much as possible on the days of the tournament and trying to help out in whatever ways he needs us (although not in the capacity of 'assistant tournament director').

The way you said 'forking over $100...to line the pockets of the touring Pros' comes across as if you have some disdain for the whole 'added cash' concept. If that's really the case, then why do you care so vehemently about Morgan's generous donation? Many of the tournaments I've been to have had some form of 'protected' prize - there's the great place (I can't remember the name, but I think it's in Warwick or Florida) that gives gift certificates to the last place finishers; last year I was able to get an artist friend of mine to donate a watercolor print to the highest finishing NY resident, things like that. This is just another one of those 'protected' sponsor gifts, but unfortunately it comes from someone that you have a hardon for, and you are making a bigger deal out of it than is really necessary.

Sep 03 2003, 01:18 PM
Good call Bill.

Dan, in an earlier post Morgan said that he wants to give the money to "anybody who travels from outside the NEFA and MADC region and wins Men's Open and/or Women's Open" (8/26). Now North Carolina would qualify, wouldn't it, it's not a part of the MADC.

So, why not include it? Yeah, we understand it's Morgan's decision. But, and please answer this one, don't you think that it would improve the tournament if guys like Brian Schweberger could get a chance to get some of that added cash? Maybe the $200,- would get another one or two guys up from NC? If you disagree with us on the NC issue, do you disagree with Bill's idea posted earlier as well?

Jeff, thanks for coming out last weekend to play Bunker Hill. I hope I get a course review. I hope to be able to expand it to 12 holes next year, with the building gone, and permission to use more land on the other side of the runway holes. It was good to see all this interest from non-players. /clipart/smile.gif

Dan,

You're right that I have a fundamental issue with added cash at tournaments. Think of what all that money could do for the sport if it were, for example, used to buy discs and temporary baskets for the local high school. Instead, it lines the pockets of touring Pros, what good does that do, if any? But this is an argument for another time, another place - not on this thread, please.

Once again, I honestly applaud Morgan's sincere gesture to donate his own money in an effort to bring out-of-towners in for this event and to enjoy the wonderful Warwick course. But if anyone should benefit, I'd much rather see Sportsman of the Year and ambassador of our sport Brian Schweberger get a deserving shot at the money and not just, for instance, "The Angry Clown" or <FONT SIZE=" 2">"The Whining Okie."</FONT>

My $.02 -Jeff

Sep 03 2003, 01:53 PM
Hey noaceyet, Houlton is just the end of the 95. Morgan said the northern tip of Maine, so you should measure from Fort Kent or Madawaska. I think those places are farther away from Warwick than Wilmington is.
I think Morgan's money is safe because anyone outside of the northeast will be traveling to the socal championships instead.

I'm laughing my buttt off here, this whole big argument over $200. I just want some of the people out west to come east and see if they can stack up against the east coast regulars. Let me explain, I'm trying (even though $200 is not enough to do it cause it still doesn't pay the travel bill) to get the west and midwest big shots to come out here. Do we have any other people who want to add to the travel bonus prize for travellers from the west? I want to see the Juliana's and Barry's and Kevin MRV's out here. How much will it take?

Everybody knows Schweberger is going to take top prize this year like he did last year, unless we can get all the Steve Rico's and Barry Schultz's and stuff to come east, and they live so far away that I thought they needed incentive to come east. Last I knew, NC was already east. But okay, if NC is too far then we'll open it up to NC people and Caribou Maine people. (And there is a DG scene in Caribou and the Enman clan rules it).

Schweberger owns Warwick. His 56 in B-B was 6 strokes under the course record and 11 strokes under world class par, I was told (is it true?) which means he shot a round rated at 1100!! They say it was one of the best rounds in the history of disc golf. We need somebody to break that mark. Ken Climo, come on down (up).

I want the big shots from the west to come out. I think east coast people are all pretty close. The east coast is all easy drivin'. I drove from key west to NYC in 18 hours once.

morgan
Sep 03 2003, 05:27 PM
We can have people donate cash to the special "travel bonus pool" like an ace pool or something. Who wants to put it up? Send money to Bill. If the pool get over $1000 then people from far away might show up. Maybe from Sweden!!

Since we all agree now it's for anybody from outside NEFA / MADC, people can start adding cash. Send it to Bill Newman.

MADC Member States: DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA.

VA, NC, OH are not MADC or NEFA. Morgan, why don't you make a hit list of players you would pay the $200 to if they won? Players you want to see give Brian a run for his money? Your geography skills are just confusing this...

Your offer would make a little more sense if it went to the top finisher on your list or the top finisher from outside the MADC/NEFA Member States area, and not to them only if they win the whole thing. You'd probably get more takers (if that's your intention?).

Sep 03 2003, 06:12 PM
There are still plenty of people in the area that could very well win the States, Brinster, Dussault, Timmy Walsh, Klosky. I've shot a 59 on the longs and had 5, count em 5, really stupid mistakes. I don't make those and i shoot 54. Anyone out here can have a great weekend and win this thing. Everyone just assumes that Schway is going to come and just walk away with it. Good odds sure but don't count your chickens, or ever count Brinster out of a warwick tourny.
Now everyone, quit your bickering, you sound like a bunch of whiny kids. THAT wont promote Warwick at all.

morgan
Sep 03 2003, 08:26 PM
Nick, your suggestions are politely declined. The travel pool is a pool, not added cash, and if nobody wins it nobody wins it. The top finisher has to be from outside the original list of states minus NC to get the pool cash. VA and WV are not eligible. Give me a break. VA? Why should I pay money to give somebody from VA incentive to come when they only live 250 miles away? Parts of NY are farther than that! I'd rather give incentive for people from Buffalo, they are farther than VA but they are IN THE SAME STATE!!

For Criminy sake, I live farther from Warwick than some VA people do!!! (almost)

Everyone just assumes that Schway is going to come and just walk away with it.

just like they thought he would sweep the skins last xmas.....
he's just lucky that i won't be there until after the event as due to wife's work schedule we can't go east until following week so i am playing old dominion which once brian found out about when i spoke to him at worlds he said"i'm way too scared to go up against you..i won't be playing old dominion..i'm just going to go to the usdgc early since i KNOW you can't be there!"

after he said that i bent his thumb back making him miss the rest of worlds which he claimed in public happened driving down the mountain the next day because he was embarrassed

Yeah you can use paypal to add $ to the travel bonus pool. Hint hint.

Hey Keith that was pretty funny. Din't you get most of those skins? (thanks to me!!?)

Sep 04 2003, 09:00 AM
Everyone knows the real story about that skins round was the incredible play of the Dan/Keith team in doubles afterward. If not for a few (ok, maybe 16) missed putts by me, we would have cashed.

I just hope Brian doesn't blame the poor luck he had this year on tour on his doubles partner from that day (btw, Brian, it's spelled S-A-N-T-O-R-O). /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

the concrete pour scheduled for this saturday has been postponed due to the parks department not being able to dig out the pad areas because of the lousy weather. they plan on digging out the remaining 24 pads on monday and tuesday, and we are tentatively planning on pouring next friday, sept. 12th. we will post again when we know the actual day, as volunteers are needed. thanks...

970 Under Open Side Bet will be offered. $10 entry, payout top 33%. See me before the start of the second round.

I'd like to extend another challenge to 970 and under Open Players: If you cash (normal tourney payout) I'll add another $10 to the 970 Under Open Side Bet. My way of acknowledging that players HUGE acheivement. Any other player interested in honoring such an achievement (970 and Under or not) let me know and I'll include your donation in any amount to that payout.(Hint, you'll need to play 4 rounds in a row at more than 3 strokes better than your average to cash. Last place cash at the Patapsco Picnic had a 995 event player rating.)

The Warwick Conference Center and Camp Warwick, located on a 500-acre site overlooking the Warwick valley, has 10 tent sites available at $22 per nite for the weekend of our event. It is an ideal location just 5-10 minutes from the course. A supermarket, wine&amp;beer store, a bagel shop, a large farm market with organic produce, and a pizza place are less than 1 mile away. The weekend of our event is the most popular weekend for out-of-town visitors the entire year because of the Applefest street festival in downtown Warwick. So if you want to reserve a site you'd better decide quickly before they disappear. You can reach me at 888-914-9131 (work) today until 5:00 PM or tomorrow morning from 9:00 to 1:00 PM. They request only one tent per site. Shower facilities are on-site.

Has it been determined yet what Tee’s and Pins will be used for the tournament? At least for Saturday’s rounds?

How about “Wolf Woods”? Is that going to be used during this tournament?

Thanks

warwickdan
Sep 26 2003, 04:45 PM
Brian...We haven't made a final determination yet as to the exact format. A lot will depend on how many volunteers we get on sunday to help with final preparations. We will NOT use holes that in our opinion aren't of a caliber appropriate for an A-tier event. I know there is a lot of concern among participants about playing Wolfe Woods. Conditions on that course were obviously grim during the Animalfest, mainly because we didn't have good tee pads. All Wolfe holes will have flypads. More grooming has been done. But keep in mind this is intentionally a more penalizing course if you aren't in the fairway. It's supposed to be "rough around the edges". TD Bill Newman wants to cap the field at 100 players (we have 70 pre-registered). If we do indeed cap at 100, my best guess at this point (subject to change) is that we'd add 2 Wolfe holes to the 18 Animal holes and play 2 rounds of 20 holes on saturday (playing 5-somes). Then we'd play a round of 20 holes sunday morning and make some sort of cut for an abbreviated sunday afternoon final round. We'll have a much better idea this sunday evening and will publicize the format early next week....

Sep 26 2003, 08:04 PM

Course is looking good!, concrete tee pads will be complete in a few days...Dan and I squared away 3 21 hole layouts, (for the 2 rounds sat. and the first rnd sunday) that use only #9 of the wolfe holes and other holes added to the Animal course. we will then have a cut for a final nine..more details soon...Sat AM will start with Silver to silver (short to short)

Tourney TD Bill Newman has made it known that Ron Russell is on his way East to play in the NY States. It just became harder for Morgan to hold onto his $200. We now have a field including Steve Brinster, Brian Schweberger, Brian McRee, Mike Moser, and Ron Russell, along with newly crowned US Women's champ Des Reading.

And Mike Milne, that dudes pretty [*****] good. AT least i hear he was back out west, though he said something about his rating dropping to where mine is playing all these wooded east coast courses /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Newman and I have finally made a decision with regard to the format. We will cap at 100 players (80 currently registered). We will play 2 rounds of 20 holes on Saturday; 1 round of 20 holes Sunday morning; and a cut for a final 9 holes Sunday afternoon. On Saturday the 2 extra holes will be as follows: between Hole #14 and #15 we will play Wolfe Hole #9 from the short tee in Round 1 and from the long tee on Round #2. The 2nd added hole on Saturday will be played after Hole #18 and will tee from the tree line just past the Silver #18 basket. In Round 1 we will play to a temporary basket located just short of the tree line at the end of the field just short of the 14th fairway. In Round 2 we will play to a temporary basket located halfway between the #14 silver basket and the #15 Silver Tee, just short of the woods. The distance of this hole will measure approximately 360 feet to both basket locations. On Sunday, the 2 extra holes will be similar to the 2 temporary holes we played during the Animalfest and will be played after playing Hole #16 and before #17. The first of those holes will be played from the #3 Blue Tee and will play to a temporary basket located at the far end of the rear parking lot just short of the woods (across the parking lot from the #4 Blue Basket). We haven't measured it yet but it will be a legitimate Par 4 somewhere around 700 feet long, with the parking lot being OB on your right for the last 150 feet of your approach shot. The second of the Sunday temporary holes will tee off from somewhere near the other temporary basket and will head back towards the #17 tee. The exact location of tee and basket will be determined Friday morning. All divisions will play Silver-Silver in Round 1; Blue-Silver in Round 2; and Silver-Blue in Round 3 Sunday morning. (However, we may decide to alter this for the Advanced Women's division.) As far as the cut is concerned for Sunday afternoon's round, here is what we know and don't know as of now: Open Pro, Open Masters, and Open Women that make the cut will play holes 10-18 Blue-Blue. We anticipate playing 9 4-somes. As of now, we have approximately 25 Open players, 15 Masters, and 5 Women. Therefore, as of now, 36 of the 45 Open players will make the cut. In the Advanced division, we will have a very limited number of players playing holes 1-9 Blue-Blue. The specific number of players in each division that will make the cut will be posted Sunday morning before the start of Round 3. We are aware that some players aren't excited about adding temporary holes. We would not add holes that are bogus. The holes that we have designed as temporary holes are legitimate holes that allow 10 players to play in this event that would otherwise not be playing. We also feel that playing one hole on the Wolfe Woods course on Saturday keeps the spirit of Scott Wolfe as part of our event. We have obviously compromised here to a great degree in that although we really wanted to play all 9 Wolfe Woods holes, we didn't want a repeat of the poor conditions we had to deal with from the rain during the Animalfest. Wolfe hole #9 has been groomed and will have flypads on both tees. It will be an opportunity to give players a feel for what some of the holes will be like once we finish with the new 18 holes sometime in 2004. We hope you'll come out on Friday and play a practice round. A random doubles event is being organized by Steve Brinster for 5:00 PM sharp Friday. See you at the NY States!!

Looking forward to Warwick, I have heard many good things from Mitch and Brinster about the course. I'll be in town thursday afternoon looking for some local routes, I hope a few folks will be available to play 20 holes or so. Just came back from NY city, wow,, could of used a disc on the top of the Empire state building. Might of been able to reach central park... /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
See ya all next week...

Format Change Announcement: A long evening of extended conversation and debate between Newman, Doyle, and a few others caused us to re-evaluate the format i had posted monday afternoon. What we ended up asking ourselves, and should have asked ourselves before coming to a premature format announcement yesterday, was "What is it that makes Warwick special and what are our obligations as a PDGA A-tier event?" Once we took a look at the answers to those questions last nite we realized what we needed to do. So newman has empowered me to announce an amended format: We will cap at 90 players and play 18-hole rounds. Saturday we will play Silver-Silver in the morning and Silver-Blue in the afternoon. Sunday morning we will play Blue-Silver in the morning. Then we will cut to 27 players (total from all divisions) and those 27 players will play 18 holes Blue-Blue (9 3-somes). The number of players that survive the cut from each division is still to be determined. Getting back to the 2 questions I posed above....What makes warwick special, in part, is the 4 different layouts. Especially the Blue-Blue layout. We felt that it was important for the top players, some of whom will have travelled a great distance, to play this layout that they have heard so much about from local touring players like brinster, demark, and sonderfan. To only play 9 of those holes wouldn't have been a good decision. Because of daylight concerns and a field of 90 players on an 18-hole course, the only way we can squeeze in that layout is to limit the number and size of the groups. One obligation as an A-tier is that we should try and attract and showcase top players. In retrospect, we should have done whatever we could to avoid 5-somes. This has been a learning experience for both newman and myself. We have already spoken about what we should do in 2004. If Wolfe Woods is ready a year from now then we'll be fine because we'll have 36 holes. Otherwise we could run the event over 2 consecutive weekends, with the non-pros the first wekeend and Pros only the second weekend. We are confident we have made the proper decision and apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused by changing the format 4 days before the event. Come join us for the Innova clinic on Friday afternoon at 3:00 and for random doubles at 4:00 PM....

I was back in NY/NJ this past weekend and as always I got in my ceremonial visit to Warwick. Always love coming back and now with the Wolfe Woods, this place has become a disc golfing MECCA!

I played Wolfe's #9, #1, and #2 (I believe, from up on the hill). Played all from the blue pads and enjoyed the crap out of it /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif.

Good work guys and good luck during States. Wish I could make it.

Large Dark Canine: Thanks for the compliments! You might be the first out-of-towner to post here and compliment us for some Wolfe holes!! We've obviously still got a long way to go but we feel when we're "done" in 10 years (a good course continues to grow and evolve) it'll be fabulous.
We'll probably get a lot of work done on the course over the winter (snow permitting). Having that snakelike creek will allow us to create some sweet holes.

----Having that snakelike creek will allow us to create some sweet holes.---

and some sweet local knowledge.

I thought my drive on #1 from the blue pad was pretty good, but maybe that it didn't turn quite enough right (I was going for it of course) AND when I get up there I see that the creek winds to the left and I was OB! I thought #9 was sweet and that creek made for a really nice environment/green. And the blue pad for #2 up the hill was sweet...I bet there are tons of options for green around there.

Wolfe Woods reminds me a bit of how the new Waco (East) course looks. STAY ON THE FAIRWAY!!!! I commend you guys on clearing fairways - I can imagine what it used to look like.

Dan Doyle,

Oops...let me be the second one to congratulate you and the club for Wolfe's Woods. Of Course, I've only seen 9 holes, but they were very challenging nine holes...lots of trouble went in to making those holes...and there's lots of trouble left out there to contend with!

Anyone birdie hole 1 or 2 in a tourney yet?

Bummer the Woods couldn't be ready for the A-tier, but all the people that would've thrown OB, repeatedly, thank you /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Glad to hear the tee-pad have recieved so much attention. Good Luck this weekend!!

Mr. Randolph....the only tourney those holes were used for was the animalfest. i don't recall if there were any birdies during that event. we really wanted to use those holes for ny states but there was just too much resistance on the part of players not feeling they were in good enough condition to be used for an A-tier event. i think the bad conditions in the rain at Animalfest has been etched in everyone's memories. We've had a lot of rain the last month and a flash flood last week took out a few bridges and made things squishy again. We probably could have made the holes ready but at least this way the Des Readings and Ron Russell type players (they'll both be in attendance) will get to play much more of the Animal course. We'll actually be finishing with 3-somes on the Blue-Blue!! When we finally finish with Wolfe Woods we'll have some amazing collection of 36 holes....Thanks for the compliments. Too bad you couldn't come out here a week early for keemaa and jen's wedding, play the ny states, and then head up to Mass. for their big day.

From Syracuse take 81 to Binghamton and jump on route 17. Take route 17 all the way to Middletown and get off the exit that says Florida, NY. I think it's exit 122 or 124 or something, I forget. But it's the only one that says Florida. When the ramp ends turn left and go maybe 7 or 8 miles to Florida, and turn right after the hardware store that's Wheeler Road I think. Stay on the main road about 2 miles, the road forks and changes names a few times but stay on the biggest road at all the forks. After 2 or 3 miles Warwick Town Park is on the left. Drive up the driveway until you see all the dozens of cars full of hippies bragging about their new discs. That's hole 1.

Gary...here's an amendment to morgan's directions. the exit for florida is exit 124. at the end of the exit ramp go left onto rt 17A towards florida. you'll enter downtown florida and make a right turn onto bridge street, which is the 2nd traffic lite in town. bridge turns into highland after about 200 yards, and highland turns into wheeler about 200 yards later. after you pass the black bear campground on your left, stay left at the fork onto union corners road. the park is about 2 miles later on the left...avoid the hippies in the park. they aren't disc golfers...

Gary are you the only one representing Central NY? Where are all the Syracuse hippie golfers? Is Sam coming with you?

Oh yeah, did you know there's one really good player from Syracuse? I hear he's pretty good rated around 1020 or something, top 5 in the world. Brian Hamburger or Cheese doodle or something. They say he's from NC but he talks with a distinct Syracuse accent and he's been known to wear orange clothing from time to time.

Morgan is Wright. Earlier today I talked to Billy Crump, then McRee and when they handed the phone to Schwey, I really couldn't understand him. He was reverting back into a Northerner.

Good call Dan and Bill. I'll be there all day friday.

Thanks for the directions, this helps alot. As far as I know I am the only Central New Yorker in the feild. I do know a couple Rochester players that will be there. Sam is getting ready for our CNY DG Championships next Sunday the 12th.
Can't wait to play the course again. See you all Saturday.

I'm driving up from South Central PA, tomorrow evening and haven't made reservations for a place to crash. Does anyone have room for one more person at a campground? I can sleep in my car but would like a place to shower in the morning?

email me if you have a spot left @ pblunt42@hotmail.com

Any golfers that aren't playing in the tournament are more than welcome to help me and the other assistant tournament directors in spotting during the tourny. We may need people spotting the blue long tee of hole 3, the silver short pin position on hole 12, the blue long pin position on hole 14, and possibly a few other places. Of course, your help would also be appreciated in checking scorecards after each round. During rounds that spotters aren't needed, you're more than welcome to join me for casual golf on the Wolfe Woods course, which is not being used during the tournament.

Here are my predicitions for the top finishers in Open:

1) Schweberger
2) Russell
3) Brinster
4) McCree
5) Moser
6) Milne
7) Klosky
8) Sonderfan

Oct 03 2003, 07:58 AM
Brian McRee shot a record matching(he holds the Warwick course record)12 under silver-silver yesterday. Then he aced #3 silver-blue in his next round.
He is playing very well. Shot the round w/ Billy, Brian &amp; Brinster.

Oct 03 2003, 08:36 AM
Dont count out some of the "sleepers" in the field making it into the cash:

B.O.B.
Ted Phillips (Mt.Kisco's finest)
Jay Redding
Bob Hoffman
Shawn Breske

Oct 03 2003, 12:34 PM
Top 8 in the open field by rating:

Russell
Schweberger
Moser
McRee
Brinster
Milne
Sonderfan
Klosky

As you can see Jeff is really going out on a limb with his predictions. I think that Ron will win easily as he is the best player in the field. What is interesting about this field is that there is only one player (Milne) rated between 981 and 1015. I think it would be quite a surprise if any of the <1000 players take one of the top 5 spots from the 1015 players.
