View Full Version : PDGA Course Directory Improvement

I appreciate the PDGA Course Directory available at:
http://pdga.com/course/coursedir.php

However, when I want to go to a course in another state, I have to look at each course and city individually to figure out where in the state the courses are. A breakdown map of each state with where the courses are within each state would be very helpful to the whole US disc golf community. Cities with many courses (Houston for example) could have it's own breakdown map showing it's 17 area courses.

Has this been considered and how quickly can we see this happen?

Steve,
I agree 100%. It's a pain when you are traveling out of state and want to find an area course. You have to look every city up on the map.

Here is a link from a previous discussion.

If you are travelling out of state, just purchase the actual Course Directory book for $15 (pdgastore.com (http://www.pdgastore.com)) and that has state maps showing where all the courses are located. I've always found it much easier to open up the book to find out of state courses than looking online (or using the PDA) and guessing which ones are on my intended path.

Just a solution till they upgrade the online/PDA directory.

i though i heard somewhere that they were going to integrate some kind of mapping engine that could determine distances from a specific location, kind of like yahoo yellow pages. guess it fell by the wayside.

i know it's a lot of work just to maintain what we have, and i apprteciate the work that is going into it! thanks guys.
i'll have to get me one of those cool mapbooks at the new pdga store!

there has been talk about integrating the course directory with a mapping website, e.g. Mapquest. i believe the concept would be that somehow all courses would determine and display latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates. One could then link to a mapping website where those coordinates would be entered. the exact location would then appear on an on-screen map.

You don't even have to go that far. My site discgolferusa.com uses the zip codes for the courses to calculate all courses within a radius of the one you are going to. All your required to really do is find a single course within 20 miles. I'm looking at expanding it further so that you can just type in a zip code in the search box and have it pull up all courses within 20 miles. Something that simple would be more than effective.
