Well, we are long overdue for our own thread...
Waterloo Disc Golf Club (WDGC) is a non-profit club in Austin, Texas. Our numbers are still relatively small, especially considering the number of players in the area. We just recently signed up member #125. However, we do a lot to give back to the general community, and work hard to promote the sport and coordinate with the City of Austin on disc golf issues. We officially formed in 1999 and started accepting membership in 2000.
However, back in 1998, we took over the running of the historic Waterloo Disc Golf Classic (2003 will be the 26th consecutive year) and turned it into a charity event. Since then we have raised around $20,000, mostly for the Austin Ronald McDonald House (houses families with critically ill children in area hospitals who otherwise couldn't afford to be near their children).
We also host an Ice Bowl and World's Biggest each year, and occasional minis (there are minis most every day in Austin, so that isn't really a niche we needed to fill; we just do it for fun, fellowship, and fundraising).
In 2002, we gave out nearly $1700 in sponsorship to Texas tournaments, including Pro Worlds in Houston.
Following is some basic membership information. Some of the items the dues will go towards are: basic supplies and equipment for the club, printing and postage, the quarterly newsletter, sponsorship of tournaments, and charitable events.
SUPPORTING MEMBER Join $40, Renew $15
Tee-Shirt with club logo
Special "member" disc w/ member # on it
Quarterly newsletter
$15 annual renewal due each January 1st
PLAYER MEMBER Join $20, Renew $15
Special "member" disc w/ member # on it
Quarterly newsletter
$15 annual renewal due each January 1st
There will probably be “Annual Goodies” for all members upon renewal each year (maybe the latest mini, or a bag tag, or some such thing).
For members who join late in the year, September – December, the annual renewal would not be due until the following January (over a year later). For example, a person who joins in November 2003 would not need to renew until January 1, 2005.
Please make check or money order payable to Waterloo Disc Golf Club, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764. For more information, you can call David Le Bleu at (512) 282-8333, Ray Murray at (512) 291-4380, or Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-0119, or you can email the club at gordon@ventbird.com.
THANK YOU to everyone who has worked hard to make the club a success! We look forward to doing even more and being around for a long time.

WDGC is happy to announce that thanks to the information from and actions by several local disc golfers, both stolen Zilker baskets have been recovered by the Austin Park Police and returned to the Parks Department!
The course is mostly set back up. They will re-install #5 & #6 soon (still using trashcans in the meantime).
WDGC acted as a clearinghouse for information about the thefts and coordinated with the Park Police Department. The club also collected reward money (over $400) and will be disbursing some of this to the folks who assisted in the recovery. Even more will be given out if arrests and convictions of the thieves are obtained.
Disc golfers should remain vigilant. Because of information coming in regarding these recent thefts, a third basket was found that had been stolen from Pease Park over two years ago. There are more stolen baskets out there, including ones from Round Rock, Lago Vista, Wimberley, and Oak Hill. If you have any information about these or find anything out please contact WDGC at (512) 858-0119 or gordon@ventbird.com.
Big Thanks go out to the Park Police Officer Randy Hunt and the individuals involved in the recoveries: Rica McGovern, David Salazar, Chad Leonard, David Tomlinson, Tim Escobedo Sr., Bo Bahan, and someone who wished to remain anonymous.

ZILKER is BACK!!
Waterloo Disc Golf Club is hosting a one round mini to celebrate the return of the Zilker course. It was pulled out by the city in response to the thefts of 2 of the 9 baskets. Now that they have been recovered, the course is back in the ground (well, most of it is).

Gordo - in reading the above posts, it would appear that the baskets were recovered, but they didn't catch the perpetrator? What's the story there? Where were the baskets discovered? Did they find them on someone's "private" course or in some unused woods? Was it a pawn shop?
Houston has been missing 3-4 baskets in a rash of thefts here in the last year, and I'm looking for some clues about where to go looking for them at! /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

There have been no arrests or convictions yet, but the Parks Police are still working on it. For 2 of the 3 stolen, there are suspects being investigated. Part of this also will depend on whether the DA's office feels a conviction is worth pursuing. We certainly hope so!
One was found at an aptartment complex next to a frat house. one was found at a Co-op on campus (this was the one that was stolen several years ago). One was found in the hands of a couple of individuals (this was the one that some other golfers physically took back).

Remember, this Monday, July 7th, WDGC will have a one round mini at Zilker Park to celebrate the return of the course.
Singles, all divisions
Sign up 4:15 – 5:00 pm
Tee off 5:20 pm
Meet at the Polo Picnic Tables near hole #1 on the “A” (north) side.
$8 per person $2 optional ace pot
BRING YOUR PORTABLE BASKETS SO WE CAN SET UP THE SOUTH COURSE TOO AND HAVE A FULL 18 HOLES.
As an added bonus…
Charles Chaumont will have a 5 gallon keg of delicious homebrew. The beer will be free, however he is asking for donations of used discs. Charles does demo clinics with kids’ groups (like P.E. classes, etc) and really needs some used discs for the kids to use during these activities. So clean out that old closet and bag and help spread the sport to a new generation.
What time will the homebrew arrive? I get off at 4:00 and I can be there around 4:20ish!! I will bring some good used disc/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

That's also an excellent use of them Mike, spreadin' the love.
I play so little these days that I don't generate that many used discs. As the guys at the TD summit will attest, I've got discs in my bag that are 8 years old (or older).
Yes, he does, but when you can throw them with such grace and style, who cares? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

We had a blast at the mini yesterday! 38 people played and a few more hung around and watched. Charles received rave reviews for his homebrew (which disapperad quickly) and took home over 30 used discs to be used in his efforts to teach kids about disc golf.
The rain stayed away and although it was muggy, there was a nice breeze and it wasn't too hot.
THANKS to all the folks who brought portables! We had just enough to set up the full 18 holes.

notes: Dan Byrd and Matt Kessler did not really shoot those high scores. They arrived late and took a number of 7s. Also, I blew it and added Matt's money into the adv.master's payout - so Rob and I got hosed, and Mark, Dale, and Ray took home a little extra.

Thanks, Chile. I heard the last Waterloo mini at Circle C used the shorts for Am and Rec. Since it's random draw, I figured it'd be the long tees. I also wanted to help the club out and get this thread active again. /clipart/happy.gif

Aug 12 2003, 04:56 PM
Thanks Lou, for both the good question and the activity. You are right, last time (for singles) we did use the short tees for rec and intermediate (am).
Because it is doubles this time, it will all be from the long tees.
Also, please note the following from Captain Kirk. We will use this...
"We also have a new tee box for #2 as they continue to work on the area in front of 2 short; you exit hole 1 basket to the left , sort of behind hole 1 basket-it has big rocks to mark the box (its a righty hyzer over the trees or a lefty anhyzer down the middle with trees on each side-path is not OB)."

Well, the mini at Circle C on Thursday August 14th (2nd thursday of the month) had a small turnout, but I heard that the folks who showed up had a great time. Thanks Sheldon & Aaron for running things.
Next mini will be Thursday September 11th (2nd thursday of the month). The location and format haven't been firmed up yet, but will be soon.
Next one after that will be Thursday October 9th (2nd thursday of the month).
Just as everyone is getting used to the pattern, the time change will be upon us, making it impossible to have one in the evening. So, starting in November, it will change to the 3rd Saturday of each month in the afternoon. The start time will be late enough that there will be plenty of time to play the Pease mini in the morning and then the WDGC mini in the afternoon.

Singles seems to get a better turnout. Are the recovered baskets in the ground yet at Zilker? Last time I played there (about a month ago) everyone was still holing out to the trash cans.
gordonmk
Aug 29 2003, 04:23 PM
Yep, although this one was probably also plagued by late notice and rain in the area that day.
Unfortunately, Zilker is still using the 2 cans, and we don't know why they haven't put the baskets back yet. We're try to find out and will see what we can do to hurry them up (even if we have to do it ourselves).

Sweet!
Simple and clean, with the info we need!
Who is the saint who finally got it all together? I went to send you a better image for the link to my site, and offer my assitance. Use any images you like from http://www.centxdglove.com , just give a photo credit. Every hole in Austin is covered, somewhere in there.
My only critical comment: Those links ought to go .html files instead of .doc files. Most people will not open docs off the net.
Good job!

It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly... a cop car pulled up!
Luckily, warnings were all that were handed out by the kindly Park Police Officer.
It was a fun mini at Bart, and the weather for the playing part of it was perfect: slightly overcast, not too hot, and a pretty sunset. Unfortunately, as we were trying to tally the results and do payout, a heavy rainstorm blew in and scattered the proceedings. We paid out to some of the divisions, but not all. If you are on the list of prize winners but did not collect and have not yet been contacted, please post here or email me at gordon@ventbird.com (or call me at home 512-858-0119).
We also did not have enough light left to do the CTP for half the evening's ace pot, so the entire pot will be added to the carry-over. October's mini will start with an ace pot of $107.
Thanks to everyone who came and played! and we also had a good turnout of people just there to register for Waterloo.

On Saturday September 27th, the club installed a tee pad at Searight Hole #1. The city donated some crushed granite, and the club formed it up, packed it down, and put down a Monster Pad (a rubber surface tee pad donated by John Houck). We also used the granite to form a path from the parking lot to the teebox.
The work is not quite complete - still some tamping down to do and some other stuff- but we would like to hear your feedback on what you think of the pad and the path.
a big THANKS goes out to all the volunteers who made it happen:

ZILKER!
The 2 baskets have finally been put back in the ground by the city, so the north side is now a complete 9-hole course again. No more throwing at trashcans, YEA!!!
On Saturday, October 11th, the club will have a work day at Zilker starting at 9:00 am. We will move all nine baskets to the south layout. We will also be spreading mulch on the north side to help it recover, especially around the pin positions. The work day will be over in plenty of time to get home and see the UT / OU football game. The game doesn't start until 2:30 pm and we should be done by 11 or 12.
Please come on out and help make this course a little nicer. You don't have to be a club member to volunteer. Bring your rakes and shovels.
boo-t-full! Winky is home!
I'll try and make it, but I dought I can. I want to remind you that the problem we had with some of the sleeves being the wrong depth last time was corrected by keeping the baskets on the same holes.... 1 south to 1 north, etc. Two of the baskets were re-numbered on the last move (8 and 7?) and may need to go back to the old placement when they go back over the road.
I'm almost done recovering from a stretched ligament to my right index finger that kept me from throwing backhand for the last 2 months, and should be ready to go by WATERLOO, but 4 rounds is going to kill me. The injury has helped my forehand game, so I quess it all works out.
Gordo, I ran off at the last Zilker mini without my payout ($11). Can I push it for merch. at Waterloo or apply it next years membership?
gordonmk
Oct 02 2003, 10:11 AM
Thanks for that reminder Joel, it will make moving them much easier. Luckily, Waterloo is a pretty short course so hopefully your hand will hold out ok.
Collecting your merch at waterloo will be fine, we'll have lots of stuff there.

The workday Saturday at Zilker was a success and a bust. About 15 people showed up ready to work, and the baskets were moved from the north side to the south quickly and efficiently.
However, even after checking and re-checking with the city about mulch, and being assured it would be there, they still failed to have it there so we could spread it. They did a great job of making us look stupid and unprepared.
Thank you to the volunteers who came out to help! When the city finally does get the mulch ready, we will try again to put it on the north side basket positions. Maybe one evening after work (assuming this is before the time change).

Well at long last, the final donation total is known for the 26th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic:
$8,537 raised for charity!!!
This is $500 more than we raised in 2002. Thank you to all the players, staff, and sponsors for making this fundraising possible! Hopefully in 2004, we will break that $10,000 mark.

Next weekend, dec 13-14, there will be two 1-day pdga x-c tier tournaments at Randon’s place (the Snow Farm in Round Top / Winedale).
Waterloo Disc Golf Club is running the Saturday tournament (dec 13th) and Dillo’s Leap Productions (Randon) is running the Sunday tournament (dec 14th).
Waterloo Club will also be having a membership special: $15 for a Player Membership (normally $20) and $30 for a Supporting Membership (normally $40), so if you aren’t already a member this is a great time to join the club.
You can play one of the days or you can play both. Also, it doesn’t start until late in the morning each day, so there is plenty of time to drive in from Austin, San Antonio, Houston, or elsewhere.
Each day’s event is one full round of 21 holes, and the player’s meeting starts at 11:00 am. Come on out for a great time at the Snow Farm. Stay and camp, or drive in and drive home, whichever you prefer. More info is on the flyer below. You can pre-register if you like (although there isn’t much time to get it in), or you can pay when you get there. No danger of turning anyone away so come on out!

Waterloo Disc Golf Club wants to hear from you. We would like stories for our next newsletter and we are hoping you will send us some. They can be on just about anything related to disc golf: a story about a trip you took to an out-of-town/state course, your most memorable ace, a recent tournament, what is going on in the disc golf scene in your town, hints and advice on how to improve your game, etc.
Don’t worry about things like exact spelling or grammar, just tell the story (we’ll clean it up if needed before publishing it).
Photos are great too, but not necessary. Don’t feel like you have to build the document with both the story and photos all together, our lay-out person will combine things.
The deadline for getting stuff in is Monday December 15th. Just email them to this address: gordon@ventbird.com.
Even if you can’t get things in by the 15th, send them anyway and we’ll save them for the spring newsletter.
Thanks!

Guys,
I know we haven't started the playoffs yet for the current season, but I wanted to give you a heads up to some of the changes we'll be making for next season tentatively to start 4/1:
1)ALL LEAGUE PAYOUT, top to bottom (regardless of playoff eligibility). Payout determined by players overall points and size of league.
2)No acepot (see above)
3)match play format to include both regular season and playoffs.
4)Standings will be determined by overall player pts. ie. 2-pts awarded for each win and 1-pt for each loss.
5)We will still have the top 8 (or so) qualify for playoffs with the final four qualifying for the final four payout.
6)league fee $50 ($30 goes to final four, $20 goes to ALL League payout.
Spead the word. The more players, the more money for everybody.

We would like to thank everyone that came out and took part in the Waterloo Disc Golf Club’s 4th Annual Ice Bowl on Saturday January 31st at Zilker Park. It was a beautiful day for winter disc golf in Austin!
116 players
$507 cash and 200 pounds of food raised for Capital Area Food Bank
There was no payout, but we did ask folks to bring out things to donate and thanks to them we did have enough to give away a small prize to 1st place in each division. We had so many people we had to set up an extra 3 holes, so we all got to play a 21-hole round. Congratulations to our winners (listed below).
We also played the CTP game 3-3-3. This raised $171 for the charity, so thanks to everyone who took part. The Round Rock guys sure cleaned up on this one. Chris Ware, Martin Rendon, and Ricky Wright took the prizes (Chris and Martin both aced a basket and Ricky was parked under the third). Chris also won the CTP during the round on hole #9 on the south course.
Big thanks to the following people and companies who donated to the cause: David Tayloe, Metro Services, Waterloo Disc Golf Club, North Shore Disc Golf Club, Double R Disc Club (Round Rock), Twisted Tayloe Tie Dyes, Dale Hemmeline, Larry Thompson, and Team Justice. Also, big thanks to Austin Parks & Rec for letting us set up the full course this one time per year!
See you next year on the Saturday before the Super Bowl for another fun and rewarding Ice Bowl.

Veterans is always fun and challenging. More importantly, how was the marshalling experience. I did not realize there was all the rules stuff going on until I read it later. I heard you also did interviews. Good work. The job appears to require a jack of all trades.

Man did it turn out to be a mess or what? The first weekend Marshalling was uneventful. Not so @ Veterans. At least 4 major rulings including the DQ of the pro playing MA1, he cashed @ Big Arms in Lubbock last year.
The job is a mixture bookkeeping, scorekeeping, IT, writing, interviewing, rules interpretation and overseeing. I love the toys  It tests all learned skills and helps the weekend go by faster when you're not playing :D:p

This Wednesday, April 21st at 4:00 pm there will be a work day at Pease Park. We are trying to get the course ready for COTO, so please come on down if you can and help out.
Speaking of COTO, entries are starting to roll in. The tournament is less than a month away – May 15-16. You can enter at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) or you can mail your entry along with the form below to the club: WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764. Don’t miss out on this wonderful tournament. We will work hard to build upon the great work of David Moody these past 7 years.
We are also seeking sponsors for COTO. Tee Sign sponsorship is $100 and it can be in cash, merchandise (at retail value), or any combination of the two. We will have at least $500 cash added to the pro divisions and all amateurs will receive a player’s package.
We already have sponsorship from: HFDS, Twisted Tayloe Tie Dyes, Double R Disc Club, Pop-a-Lock, Academy, Moody’s Disc Golf Pro Shop & Country Club, Discraft, Innova, and Millennium, but we could really use a whole lot more.
We will have some great fundraiser discs from Innova & Millennium, more details on those soon.
Thanks,

The fundraiser discs for COTO have arrived. Purchase of these discs goes a long way towards raising money for the tournament and it is a way for people to help out by sponsoring and at the same time pick up a great piece of plastic with a really neat stamp.
Each disc is $25, and everyone who buys one before the tournament will have their name put on a tee sign, thanking you for your sponsorship.
Candy Innova Plastic:
CE TL
CE Starfire
CE Classic Roc
Millennium Q Plastic:
Q-LS
These discs are the only place you can get the Alternate Tournament Stamp (well, it’s on a few minis too). The Main Stamp is on all the other discs, shirts, and minis. Both stamps are really great. Big Thanks to Scott Carter for providing great artwork for COTO yet again! And thanks also to Innova and Millennium for making these discs for us.
You can get your disc(s) several different ways:
1) You can go down to Moody’s Trailer at Pease Park
2) You can come to one of the club events between now and the tournament (there will be several – work days, minis, etc)
3) You can hook up with some of the club board members out on the course (Dan Mueller, Rob Hecht, Mark McCrimmon, Roger Allen)
4) You can mail us a check, include what kind of disc you want (weight & color preference also – we’ll try to oblige if we can). The mailing address is WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764. You can then pick up your disc at the tournament.
Thanks for all your great support, and we’ll see you soon,

The Waterloo Club is having a workday at Pease Park on Saturday May 1st.
* Start time is 7:30 am, meet at the practice basket / pro shop area (there is plenty of work to do, so even if you can’t make it at 7:30, come down a little later and help out)
* Bring shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows (and work gloves)
* Refreshments will be provided
The city is giving us a bunch of crushed granite, so there will be a lot of tee box work as well as other projects to make the course nicer and to get it ready for COTO.
You can sign up for COTO in person there.
This will also be an opportunity to join the club at a reduced rate. Player Membership will be $15 (instead of $20) and Supporting Membership will be $30 (instead of $40).

Just a reminder that tomorrow night (Thursday May 6th) will be a general club meeting. It is at Vinnie's Ten o Three Cafe, 7pm (1003 Barton Springs Rd). Everyone is welcome to attend, you do not have to be a member.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks everyone for coming out and supporting the club at World’s Biggest last Sunday. We had 64 players, we had 6 people join the club, and we sold some of our COTO fundraising discs. It was a beautiful day for disc golf!
Our new members are:
Alex Hughes Player Member
John Marr Player Member
Dave Dean Player Member
Khali Mendoza Supporting Member
Hal McBroom Supporting Member
Ellen Kunish Player Member
This puts our membership at 168. We will also be having a membership drive all weekend at COTO: $5 off Player Membership and $10 off Supporting Membership.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Looks like a lot of people are getting warmed up for COTO. Last night’s mini had 60 players. We will definitely have someone there at the mini next Tuesday to take COTO signups in person. We hope to have someone there this Saturday morning as well.
You can also sign up in person at the club meeting on Thursday night. You can mail in the entry form (found at the courses and on our website www.austindiscgolf.org (http://www.austindiscgolf.org)), or enter on www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) until Wednesday evening, may 12th.
The tournament will be limited to around 120-130 people so don’t wait too long to sign up. You can see a current (well, fairly current) list of who is already signed up at: www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4108 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4108)

The course at Pease is looking better and better. Thanks Dan Mueller, Roger Allen, Rob Hecht, John Falcon, Mitch Justice, Mark McCrimmon, and many others who have worked VERY VERY hard on the improvements!
There will be one more work day at Pease before COTO. It will be on Wednesday May 12th, starting at 4:30 and continuing until the stuff is done or we run out of daylight. Things that will be helpful: a few weedeaters, a couple of wheelbarrows, and a lot of strong backs (c’mon you young guns, we need you).
If you like the improvements you are seeing, please let these folks know how much you appreciate it. They are volunteering a lot of time and effort to make the courses nicer for everyone - and the Waterloo Club and the city are putting a lot of
money & effort (club) and material (city) into it too. The club could also use your support, both monetarily by joining the club (or renewing your membership) and physically by donating some of your time and energy.
If you don’t like the changes or how they have come about, just let the club know; we do value your feedback. You can call any of the board members, email me, or talk to any of us in person. But please, give your opinion in a constructive way. Just ********, moaning, and complaining about it doesn’t help – especially if you do it in an aggressive and confrontational way. That is a good way to have your opinion disregarded and it is also a good way to discourage people from wanting to help out in the future.
There will be a few more opportunities to pre-register for COTO. You can do it in person at the Saturday morning Pease mini (KT Stockham or Patty Justice will be there to take your entries), or at the Tuesday evening mini, or at the Wednesday work day. Otherwise, mail it in right away or enter at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) up until Wednesday evening. Last chance, assuming we aren’t full by then, will be at Friday’s doubles. Flex tee off starts at 1:30 pm and will probably continue until about 5 or 5:30.
Don’t forget that you can help support COTO by purchasing one of the sweet fundraiser discs for $25. As a supporter, your name will go on a tee sign during the tournament. You can get the discs from Moody’s trailer or from Dan, Roger, Mitch, Mark, or me.
Thanks!
I put together a message board (on minibb) on my site. It's at http://www.centxdglove.com/forums. I hope to get the locals to use it.

Just a reminder that this afternoon and evening will be a work day at Pease. We could really use some help in getting the course finished up and ready for COTO. It officially starts at 4:30 pm, but if you have a chance to get down there a little earlier, Roger Allen & Charles Chaumont will be there with a “tamper” to pack down the tee boxes. They could use a little extra help getting it around and getting the boxes ready to be tamped.
If you can, bring rakes and shovels for tee box work. Also some weedeaters would be useful too.
The tournament is very close to full. Titledisc is already shut down (we are too close to full to leave it up any longer), but we should have a few spots available to those who show up in person at the park for the work day.
If you have entered, but have not received an email or phone call with confirmation, check the pdga signup list site to make sure your name is there. If it is not (or if you are not in the correct division), call or email Ray tonight or call/email me tonight or tomorrow. Signup list: www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4108 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4108)

On Friday at Pease, there will be doubles. Pick your partner, $20 per team, flex start from 1:30 until about 5 or 5:30 (depending on the weather and how long it is taking to play the course). The course will be completely available for practice in the morning and after we tee off the last doubles card. Play during the afternoon will probably depend on how many doubles teams we need to get through the course before dark. If we have some open gaps, you can play in those, but the doubles teams will have priority.
On Friday evening, there will be a disc golf party at Bongos BBQ (corner of West 24th and San Gabriel – just up 24th from the park, towards campus). You do not need to be in the tournament to come to the party. All disc golfers are welcome. We will have door prizes periodically throughout the evening. It starts at 5pm and goes until about 9pm. Come eat some good bar-b-que, drink some beer, and have a great time. Some people will probably be bringing discs and stuff to sell, trade, and buy (a mini fly mart kind of thing). If we can, we’ll bring doubles results up there as we wrap things up at the course. And hopefully the tee times postings too.
So I got this e-mail and thought I shoul pass it along.

The Austin Rec Centers are having a disc golf clinic/event for kids this Monday June 14th at Zilker. They are seeking used discs for the kids to use and they’re expecting about 75-100 kids. They have some, but could sure use a lot more. If you have any used discs you would like to donate, you can take them to one of two places:
Moody’s trailer at Pease Park
or
Dittmar Rec Center
You can drop them off anytime up through Saturday evening (although the rec center may not be open on the weekend ???) or you can bring them to Zilker on Monday morning. The clinic will run from about 9:30 – 10:30 am, followed by 3-kid teams playing triples. If you would like to volunteer to help teach the kids, they would love to have you. You can even stick around for the lunch hot dogs J .
The Dittmar Rec Center is in South Austin. From the intersection of S. 1st and William Cannon, go south on S. 1st, turn right on Dittmar, stay left at the fork (keeps you on Dittmar) and then it is on the left. The address is 1009 Dittmar and the phone number is 441-4777, ask for Alex Glushko.
Thanks for your help,

Great news! Ed & Laura Coffey from Round Rock and Patty Justice from Waterloo all went to last night's board meeting of the Brushy Creek Municapal Utility District to convince them to let us do the Charity Marathon at the Cat Hollow course (the MUD is in charge of the park).
This will be a combined effort by Double R Disc Club and Waterloo Disc Golf Club. It will be on Saturday July 17th, from early in the morning until dark. Both clubs will be on hand taking care of things and raising money for a great cause at a great new course.
Cat Hollow has only been in the ground a few months, and is an 18-hole course designed by John Houck that has received very nice reviews (It is in Round Rock, just of RM 620). See the Cat Hollow thread under Courses for more info.
More details about the Charity Marathon will be available as we get them worked out, including times, possible minis during the event, etc.

Tuesdays, beginning in July, the Waterloo Icehouse at W. 38th and Medical Parkway will extend happy hour pricing till close for all disc golfers.
The Waterloo Icehouse was a generous sponsor at the 2004 COTO, donating numerous dining certificates, plentiful beverages and the use of their canopy tent throughout the event.
A friend of the Austin disc golf community, Icehouse General Manager Alex Johnson now invites golfers to take the short hop up Lamar Blvd. after Moody's Pease park mini, or when you've shut your work day down, Tuesdays at Waterloo, for cold drinks and good food.
Supporting those who support disc golf in Austin has never been easier. Enjoy your summer and keep 'em flyin'.

The following is from the Double R Disc Club (round rock club)….
ATTENTION ALL CENTRAL TEXAS GOLFERS!
ROUND Rock has donated time to other clubs and sponsored many event. And now we need you alls help!
Rivery is having a work day this Saturday September 18th, 9:00 am. I have a mission to make #8 the signature hole of the course.
There will be plenty to do on the rest of the course.
Things to keep in mind:
1.Its time for other than R&R member to do some work in WILL CO.
2. Bring tools....gloves, lopers, chain saws, weedeater and mowers.
3. A B.B.Q. will follow.
4. San Gaberial is cold and good for swimming.
5. And did I mention its time to see someone else than R&R members to help in WILL CO.
The Double R has stepped up and done alot for WILCO and austin for that matter, and there has been plenty of talk from Austin players that they love the courses north and would like to help out on them. Here is your chance, come on out and give something back to the sport we all love.
THERE WILL BE NO RENEGADING. NO TREE TRIMMING UNLESS IT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO CUT.This course is tight and will stay that way for the tourney and forever. There will plenty to do for the whole family not just golfers so bring your families if you want.
More info this week. Start time of Work Day 9 a.m. See you all then with mowers, weedwackers and rakes.
Ed Coffey met with the city at lunch, drove the course, and discussed what I need for them to do for us. They are going to mow everything except holes 4,5,6,9,10,11 and 17. They cannot get there equipment in those holes. That is where we come in, we will weedeat 5 and 6 and mow the others. The city will be there this Thursday so we will be able to come right behind them Sat morning. We need mowers and weedeaters mainly, I have everything else. So if you have access to a mower or weedeater and can't make it out please PM me and I will make arrangements to get them.
Everybody involved with the cleanup crew will be able to drive down through the gate on the south bound access road of 35 and park around hole 3.

Just a reminder that there will be a workday at Zilker Park in Austin this Saturday morning (sep. 25th) starting at 9:00 am. We will be helping the city put the baskets back in the ground, on the south layout. We will also be mulching the course and picking up trash. Bring rakes and shovels for mulch work. A future project will be the building of a new bulletin board on the south side, similar to the one on the north layout.
If you mention at the Kiosk that you are there for the disc golf work day, they will not charge you the $3 for parking.
It will be a busy day for disc golf in central texas, with the TX 10 in Round Rock/Georgetown and the Dyer Maker event in Temple, and the regular Pease mini, but if you aren’t going to one of those please come down and help out one of your local courses.
Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club
You guys ever swing up to the North side of Austin? I am looking to play with some peeps that are serious about there game.

WATERLOO DISC GOLF CLUB’S
5TH ANNUAL ICE BOWL
Saturday February 5, 2005
Zilker Park Disc Golf Course (18 Hole Setup)
Signup Begins at 11:00 am
(at Polo Picnic Tables, by hole #1 of the north course)
Start at 12:30 pm
As many of you probably know, the Ice Bowl was started a number of years ago to have a day of disc golf solidarity in the gloom of winter (well, ok it isn't usually THAT gloomy around here, but you get the idea). Every year, clubs and people from around the world gather together to help fight hunger within their communities and to have a day of fun playing disc golf no matter what the weather.
The rules of the Ice Bowl are simple: 1) Under no circumstances can an Ice Bowl be postponed or cancelled; 2) No wimps or whiners allowed; 3) There are no excuses for not attending!
We will be raising money and food for the Capital Area Food Bank. The entry fee is $13 and 2 cans of food (or $15 and no food). For that $13, you will receive either an Ice Bowl Disc and Mini or an Ice Bowl T-Shirt (supplies of both are limited - first come first choice; we will also have long-sleeve shirts, but there is an extra $3 fee for them; and some Z and Champion plastic for an extra $6). After that, we are playing for fun!!! All proceeds will go directly to the charity.
We will also have some CTP contests and maybe some other fun stuff. The whole idea is to have a great time while helping others out who really need it. If you have anything you would like to donate as CTP prizes, please let us know. Anything we receive, we will give away!
For more information about the Ice Bowl or about the club in general, please call Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-0119, Mark McCrimmon at 478-1860, Dan Mueller at 293-7592, or Sheldon Parker at 416-1192. General Meeting
Tuesday January 18, 2005
7:00 pm
Waterloo Ice House
1106 West 38th Street, Austin, TX
Everyone is welcome to attend (you do not have to be a member).
We will have some nice door prizes to give away!
We would really love to have a big turnout for this meeting. Waterloo Ice House has done some sponsoring of us in the past, but if we can give them a big night of business then they will hopefully significantly increase their support of the club for Ice Bowl, COTO, and Waterloo.
Discussion will include the upcoming big work day at Searight, the course re-design at Circle C, the Ice Bowl Feb 5th at Zilker, and the Texas 10 Charity Tour Waco Stop on February 26th hosted by the Waterloo Club.

Great news!!! The Circle C re-design project has received final approval from the city parks dept (and yes, the neighborhood association has approved it too).
We are going to have 2 work days this weekend at Circle C to get things moving along, Saturday January 29th and Sunday January 30th. We need volunteers to be there starting at about 8:30 am each day.
When the project is finally completed, we will have a beautiful 24-hole course (all 24 in play at all times) with a practice basket, bulletin board, framed tee-boxes including some holes with pro and am boxes, tee signs, benches, and basket areas that won’t erode away. We will also do some work helping the old, no longer utilized areas recover.
While the city is providing some materials, most of this project will happen because of the club and all the disc golfers out there. The club is purchasing all the new baskets, and will be coordinating the volunteer efforts to install them, clear the new holes, chip the cut cedar into mulch and distribute it, build the tee-boxes, create erosion controls such as terraces and berms, etc.
Please bring:
Rakes
Shovels
Loppers (pruners)
Weedeaters
Chainsaws
Lawnmowers (and one or two riding mowers would be great too)
We will have some drinks and food for our volunteers. Come on out and help us make a difference at our disc golf courses!
Great Big Thanks to Dan Mueller and Mike Olse who have already put hundreds of hours and lots of muscle into this project. And thanks also to those folks who have helped Dan and Mike out with the work.
Hope to see you all out there this weekend,

from Dan Mueller...
NEWS FLASH, the austin parks and rec dept. has rescheduled the use of thier equipment for the workday this weekend due to the weather. the bobcats and trucks will be available on feb 12 and 13th. the thought was that the rain would prevent access to all the areas needed and the soft ground would get torn up. we will still have some work to do with cutting and brush stacking. plan will be to have all the fairways cut and the mulching material stack by the the 12th. waterloo club members will be out in force this weekend performing the prep work. please come out and give a hand. thanks. dan.
gordonmk
Jan 28 2005, 02:26 PM
OK, here is the plan straight from Dan...
The city will have their big equipment ready for Sat. Feb 12th and Sun. Feb 13th, so those will be our big work days (again... weather permitting).
We will still have a smaller workday tomorrow (Sat.Jan 29th). There is still plenty to do to get ready for when the big equip.is available. Cutting stuff, dragging it to where the chippers will be placed, framing tee boxes, digging holes, etc.
This Sunday's work day is cancelled altogether because of the expected bad weather.

Bartholomew Park Clean Up!
Saturday, February 26th from 11 am to 4 pm
Meet in the small parking lot down by the tennis courts
Mike Kelly is a local disc golfer. He is part of a City of Austin employee group that is coordinating a public service project in Bartholomew Park. They are planning to do a "Creek Cleanup" on Saturday, February 26th from about 11 am to 4 pm. They are coordinating with Keep Austin Beautiful to help with trash collection and removal supplies. The last couple of floods have deposited a bunch of trash in the trees and in the creek overbank area.
If you have some time that day, please come on down to Bart and help clean up Austin’s oldest permanent disc golf course.
If there are any weather related issues, they've established
Saturday, March 5th as the alternate date.

This is Stevie Campbell. I host the Frisbee and Disc Golf Club at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). I want to inform you that one of the baskets is missing (8th hole) from the TSD Campus, it happened last Wednesday (March 23rd). I am very disappointed that someone has stolen a basket from TSD. The TSD students were very motivated to play disc golf everyday. They were upset because of this theft. If you have any information about this crime against kids, disc golf, and our community, please contact me at drfrisbee7@tmail.com, or contact Waterloo Disc Golf Club at gordon@ventbird.com, (512) 858-0119.

Sorry about this, but there has been a change in date of the general Waterloo Club meeting. It will now be
Tuesday April 19th (instead of the 12th).
It will still start at 7 pm. If you play the Pease mini that night, please come on over when the mini is done. We’ll still be going I’m sure.
--------------------------------------------------
Also, next Thursday, April 14th, the club will resume its weekly mini at Circle C. Just like last year it will be one round of singles, with an entry of $8 (with $1 going to the club) and an optional ace pot of $2. The ace pot will carry over week-to-week if no one hits it. We will hold the mini each week until the time change in the fall.
Something new this year will be the flex start tee time. You can start the mini any time between 4 pm and 5:30 pm. If you start early and can’t (don’t want to) hang around for results, you can pick up any winnings on a later Thursday night.
--------------------------------------------------
Also, next Thursday, April 14th, the club will resume Newbie Night. However, it will be at Circle C now (instead of Zilker). It will start at 5:30 pm and the first part will focus on improving/learning part of the game. Then it will be time to play some holes. With the soccer fields and a practice basket right there, Circle C will be the perfect place for Newbie Night.
Thanks,

Just a reminder that tomorrow night, Tuesday April 19th, there is a general club meeting at Waterloo Ice House on West 38th, start at 7 pm, usually lasts 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
We will have the just-arrived COTO fundraiser discs with us available for purchase. We will also have these at the Thursday night weekly Circle C minis.
We have Candy Starfires with the hotstamp logo for $25 (in assorted colors/weights).
We also have the Inn Color Glow Orcs for $30. These look very SWEET!!! The picture is below, but it doesn't really do the disc justice. The area around the star is a dark blue, the blue sky is more pronounced, and the star is more shades of yellow/brown/black. It is pretty.
New from Innova this year is a special appreciation, the Sponsor Reward Program. For every fundraiser disc you buy, you get a certificate that you can send in to them. They draw some of these monthly for some great prizes. Some examples of rewards they will be giving away include: Skill Shot™ and DISCatcher™ targets, merchandise and even a Sponsor’s Exemption to compete in the 2005 United States Disc Golf Championships.
Also, to show our appreciation for your support, we will put your name on a tee sign during the tournament PLUS we will have a raffle of our own just for the folks who buy these fundraiser discs.
Thanks in advance for all your support!

Tomorrow morning, disc golf will be on TV in Austin.
Channel 8, the Time Warner 24 hour local news channel was out doing some filming and interviews at Pease earlier this week. They are going to run the story on their morning show tomorrow. I’m not sure if it will run every 30 minutes, but probably. What will happen though is that every 30 minutes (starting at 6:10-6:15 am) they will cut to live shots at Pease Park of folks playing disc golf.
The first time they go live to Pease will be at 6:10 – 6:15 am and then every 30 minutes after that until the last shot at 8:10-8:15 am.
So if you are up that early, tune in to channel 8.
If you would like to come down to Pease to be part of it, please do so. They want at least 3 - 5 people to show playing each time. They can’t guarantee that everyone that comes down will get to be on TV, but we’ll try to get as many on as possible. You don’t have to be there for the whole thing, maybe come by for a while before going to work. We’ll start gathering to get ready for the first shoot at about 5:45 am (gads, that is early). We will gather at the practice basket area.
They have warned us that if there is some really big breaking story that morning, they may have to skip some or all of the live shots, but the possibility is not very big.
Finally, we would love to have someone tape this on their VCR . Unfortunately, I am on satellite out in Dripping Springs (no cable available out there) so I don’t get Channel 8. If you can tape this, please let me know. The club will reimburse you for a video cassette. Please tape from 6:00 am – 8:30 am so that we get all of the stuff.
Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

The disc golf story last Friday came out pretty good. I haven’t seen the tape yet of the live shots, but the regular story seemed to go well. To see a video of it, use this link. Once there, you can see the text of the story and you can choose to play the video. I tried playing the video from home using dial-up and it was incredibly slow, so I’d suggest using a high-speed connection for that. If you only have dial-up, you can still read the story and you can try for the video if you have lots of patience.

The club needs one more volunteer for World’s Biggest. It is Saturday May 7th at Circle C, and we need one more person for the 3 pm – 6 pm shift. If you can help out then, please let me know. Here is who we have scheduled so far:
9 am – 12 pm Roger Allen & Sheldon Parker
12 pm – 3 pm Emily Brown & Del Stair
3 pm – 6 pm Lou Moreno & ?????
It’s not hard and it can be fun. You are mainly signing up people to play, promoting the club, and then helping pack up whatever is left so it can be taken back to the storeroom. We’ll even have a world’s biggest staff t-shirt for you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also need some more volunteers to help out with COTO, May 13-15. If you can be there all 3 days, great. But we’ll happily take 1 or 2 days worth of help too. We need help unloading stuff each morning and setting up, packing up stuff each evening, and general help during the rounds. If you can help out, please contact me and/or Ray Murray (prairie_dog@sbcglobal.net, 972-398-8140). We’ll feed you, water you, and make sure you are well taken care of.
We could also use some folding tables to set stuff up on. If you can bring any to let us use for the weekend, we’d appreciate it. Just bring them to the park on Friday May 13th, anytime after 11 am.
Thanks!

Don’t forget:
Work days at Pease to get ready for COTO and to make some nice improvements: Sunday May 1st and Sunday May 8th, both days the work starts at 10 am, and we’ll have free pizza and drinks for lunch for the volunteers.
World’s Biggest at Circle C, Saturday May 7th, 9 am – 6 pm. Just $15 for a disc and shirt, plus some of your money goes directly towards course improvements in Austin. Thanks to all those who volunteered to help fill the work shifts! We have everything covered now. We just need lots of people to come out and play.
Please buy COTO fundraiser discs. Money raised goes right back into the tournament, plus you get entered in a club raffle for fundraiser disc purchasers only, plus you can enter an Innova raffle, plus you get a great disc! You can buy these at the work days, world’s biggest, or the weekly circle c mini.
Sign up for COTO. We expect it to fill with 135 players. You can sign up online at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) or in person at the work days, world’s biggest, or the weekly circle c mini. You can also go by Moody’s trailer and sign up there.
Help find sponsors for COTO. Ray Murray can email you a sponsor request letter or you can download it from the club’s website: www.austindiscgolf.org. (http://www.austindiscgolf.org.) The more sponsorship we can get, the better the tournament will be.

Well said Lou!
---------------------------------
Just a reminder that the Waterloo Club is taking part in a workday tomorrow (sat june 11th) to help get the new course in Kyle going. Come on down and help if you can, this will be a nice addition to the courses in the area. Below is some info about the workday from the park director.
Oh... and John Houck did design this new course :D
Here's the info for
Saturday June 11th
Starting at 9 am; going until about noon or 1 pm.
Directions to the park: http://www.cityofkyle.com/directionstosteeplechase.pdf
The bridge over Goforth is still out, and now the Bunton Overpass is out, so we need to direct people to take the Kyle Hwy 150 Exit, go south on service road, Hwy 81, to 4-way stop, turn left and go over IH-35, turn left (at the Dairy Queen), stay on IH-35 service rd going north, cross over the creek and turn right at Brent Blvd (between the Patriot Car Wash & Kyle Showroom Warehouse), stay on Brent Blvd across Goforth and into Steeplechase and than follow the map.
This fall the bridges will all be replaced and much easier to get to park.
I have told folks to bring tools to cut weeds, brush and trees. Bring water or something to drink. I will bring pizza. I have told everyone to meet at 9:00am and we can work until we are "out of gas", or about noon/1:00.

wow , I thought you guys had good turnouts at circle-c on thurs.. bummer!!
Last year we had good turnout. This year is a little sluggish.
Hopefully this will get a few more players out. There's definitely more shots at the ace pot at Zilker. :)

Jun 14 2005, 02:56 PM
yes there is!!!! :Dwhy do ams have to pay a 1 dollar club fee? the club already makes a nice profit off every am entry by way of plastic profits!!!
That's a good question and something I've been wondering about myself since the mini turnout started declining. I'll see if I can find the original reason for the fee and figure out if it's something that the club still needs to be charging.
esalazar
Jun 16 2005, 01:46 PM
perhaps a bag tag challenge can be initiated in place of the club fee!! I have read of some real good and profitable programs like this where everyone benefits and is happy!! just an idea!! Or leagues!! Leagues provide initiative for players to return which in turn will increase participation and retention!! :D
Bag tags have been proposed in the past. I'm not sure what the reason was for not pursuing it.
A Waterloo league is currently being discussed.
Keep the ideas coming, E. It all helps.

Jun 16 2005, 02:35 PM
The league should have some periodical reward system. That is what keeps the players coming back like an addiction!! It should reward players for good play as well as attendance.Kind of like the tx10 principle where you have to make a certain number of appearances to qualify for some set bonus or to play in the final or whatever!! :D

Hellooooo Newbies!!
I want to update everyone ……..
Zilker Park may start charging a $3 entry/parking fee (I think it’s per vehicle)– The Waterloo Disc Golf Club has decided to reimburse All Newbies for this charge!!!!!
Just pay the $3 at the entrance & when you get to Newbie Night someone from the club will reimburse you. ALSO…..Millennium has come aboard as a MAJOR sponsor! They will donate disc golf equipment every week for us to give out (this is in addition to our normal donations/prizes)! NOT ONLY THAT…..The Newbie who brings the most new Newbies by the end of the season (when the time changes) will win a Brand New Disk Golf Bag filled with a Brand New set of Discs!!!!!
All I can say is WOW! I wish there were opportunities like this available when I was a Newbie!
We will also have ‘premium’ discs available. These are super light weight discs that fly more like a ‘frisbee’.
I hope to see you all Thursday!

The club's 1st Lifetime Member (and Founding Member #007) David Tayloe passed away yesterday.
I just got a call from one of his best and oldest friends, Stevo Barnes, that Dave has left the planet. His suffering is now over, and Julie’s and ours has begun. Please keep her in your thoughts as she will need all of our love and strength. There isn’t anything on the www.fatherdave.com (http://www.fatherdave.com) site yet, but I’m sure Greg Marshall will be posting info as soon as he gets it.
There is also a thread for him under Players: http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=417004&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
A sad day for us all.

I’m sorry for the huge delay in getting this information out to everyone. At the last general club meeting, we introduced the idea of committees to handle many of the things the club does on an ongoing basis. We are going to form a number of committees and we want, and need, your help.
The idea is to provide a way for a lot more people to get involved in what we do, and in turn this will allow the club to do so much more. Our events will get better, our courses will get better, and the club will get better.
Below are the committees and a bit about what each will do. Some will be larger than others. Some will have more ongoing stuff, others will have more “bursts” of activity. And of course, all of this will be adjusted as we go along and find out what works and what doesn’t. With Waterloo coming up soon, and Ice Bowl not too far beyond that, there will definitely be plenty for everyone to do.
If you are interested in serving on one or more of these, please email me back. Once we have a good feel for who is interested in what (and we’ll combine these with the responses we got at our meeting plus feedback we got at this year’s Ice Bowl), we will contact you back with more information.
If you would like more information on any of this, please feel free to contact the club.

How about a committee that represents the players wants , needs and desires!!! I often here negative remarks about how this club or that club or this td or that td runs things etc. etc. I think this would be an enormous addittion to any club . I strongly feel that if decisions that affect the players were made with the players desires in mind , that the club would further prosper!! I am not ******** , I am merely trying to think outside the box a little!! Is there any doubt that member retention is a direct result of member relations!!
One case in point would be participation in club run mini's. I think the participation is quite weak right now , considering the sheer number of potential players in Austins player base. If you want bigger turnouts offer more to the players . Give the players a higher incentive to want to participate. In this vast player pool in central texas there are abundant opportunities to play competitive golf . If you want to draw a higher percentage of players you must be competitive in the market , so to speak!! You Business minded people out there should see my point. If you want to sell a product you must give potential customers (players) a great product and market it accordingly!!! In other words if you keep your customer base wanting your product you will further your customer base!!! Another vital idea is never take your customer base for granted!! :D
Like I previously stated , I am not ******** , I am merely trying to offer a fresh perspective!!!

Just a few reminders:
Waterloo’s Discraft One Disc Ace Race will be Sat. Sept. 11th at Pease Park (Austin), flex start between 1pm - 4pm. Reserve your package before Wednesday, August 31, 2005 by contacting Lou Moreno (389-1853, texas_me@hotmail.com) or Gordon Maxim-Kelley (512/858-0119, gordon@ventbird.com). We will have a limited number of extra packages available the day of the event (on a first come basis).
Entry is $20, and you will receive two of the same Prototype Discraft discs, a hat and a supercolor mini-star.
We will also have a fun contest using last year’s Ace Race discs, so be sure to bring yours down. It will be free to play and we’ll have some prizes to give away. If you don’t have your discs from last year, we will have a few available for purchase.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The club will be doing a lot to honor and remember David Tayloe at this year’s Waterloo tournament. It will be called: 28th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic – In Memory of David Tayloe.
One thing that should be a lot of fun will be the inaugural Tayloe Toe Toss, a chance for all of us to have a good time trying to throw a Frisbee with our feet.
And on Sunday, be sure to wear your favorite tie dye.
Also, we are permanently renaming the c-note deal. From now on it will be called the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge. If you haven’t yet taken the challenge, send in your check for $100 right away to reserve your spot in this year’s tournament. Once the flyers come out and registration is open, you can still take the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge. It won’t have the added benefit of saving your spot, but you will still be eligible for all the other “extras”, such as a special addition to your player’s package, and a CTP each round for challengers only. Plus you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that some of your money will go directly to the Ronald McDonald House. Dave came up with this great idea five years ago, and it is only fitting that we name it for him and continue to keep him in our hearts. He was always a huge supporter of the tournament and the Ronald McDonald House, and we’ll miss him very much!
To take part in the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge, send your $100 to WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764 (payable to WDGC). Please include your division and pdga #. We already have about 35 folks, but we’d love to have a lot more.
More info about Waterloo on the tournament thread: http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=TournamentInfo&Number=420958&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=all
---------------------------------
Don’t forget about the weekly Thursday mini at Zilker Park. Sign up at 5 pm, tee at 5:30, ace pot is currently over $300. Entry is $8 per person for all divisions, optional ace pot is $2. $1 from each Pro entry goes to the club for our fundraising, but we are no longer taking the $1 from the Ams, as we are making some profit from the merchandise that we pay out.
----------------------------------
Finally, don’t forget to spread the word about Newbie Night. This also happens each Thursday at Zilker, starting at 5 pm. It is an excellent way for people new to the sport to learn about it in a casual, no-pressure, learning environment. There is some time spent focusing on learning something about the game (like a certain shot) and then a fun round of 9 holes to practice. Also, thanks to Millennium’s support of this program, we have plenty of prizes to give away each week at Newbie Night, plus a big reward to the Newbie who brings the most other Newbies by the end of the season (in October when the time change occurs). Encourage your friends and acquaintances who have just started disc golf, or are thinking about starting, to come check out Newbie Night.
Thanks!

Change of Topic here....
I put this on the LODGA thread since I am from LODGA, but I am also going to put this on several other threads, so don't get upset if you see this several times.....
Some of you know that Kathy,my wife, and I are school teachers. School kids from the huricane evacuation are starting to show up at local schools with nothing but the clothes on their back and maybe, and I mean maybe, one set of extras. They have no school supplies, and lunch money is a problem. Some lunches are probably going to be taken care of through the local systems, but the others stuff is in desperate need.
Target is clearing out all of their school supplies at 30-50% off. If you have a chance, go by Target and spend about $10 dollars on paper, pens, pencils, markers and glue and then take it to the closest elementary, middle school or high school. If you have kids or grandkids that have out grown clothes take the extra clothes also. The counselors can give them to the kids. Some of the kids are staying with relatives others are in local hotels or shelters. You can also take it to to a shelter and they will give them out.
I also know that some of the local schools here in NISD are going to do clothes and school supplies drives, so be open to that. We are being told that some of these kids could be in our school systems until Christmas or longer.
Also, and this is on a more personal note...I am an animal lover and there are animals showing up at the local shelters that are being turned away because the shelters do not allow animals. If any of you are animal lovers also or just have a soft spot in your hearts for a dog or cat, contact yopur local Humane Shelter and volunteer to be a foster parent to these animals. All you have to do is keep these animals until the owners and the animals can get back home.
Thanks for your time and if you cannot do anything else, help a kid who wants to go to school. They need their lives to be as normal as possible.

Wow, less than 2 weeks to Waterloo!
The Zilker course is back in following the ACL fest, and it is now on the south side of the park road. For some reason, the city painted the baskets bright yellow. ???
The club’s weekly minis at Zilker are starting back up, the next one will be this Thursday, October 6th, same times (sign up starts at 5 pm, tee off at 5:30). There will be a club meeting following the mini, see below for more info.
Since the ace pot is starting back over, we have decided to add a little spice to it for this mini. If there is an ace, in addition to winning the $2 per person ace pot, the winner will also receive one of our very limited 28th Waterloo full color trophy discs, featuring a great photo of Father Dave. If there is more than one ace, the money will be split and there will be a CTP for the disc. The south side has lots of holes that can be aced, so come on out for a fun mini.
28th Waterloo CFR discs and minis will be available for sale, see last email item for more info.
------------------------------------------------------
This is very short notice, but the club will be holding a General Club Meeting this Thursday (Oct 6th) right after the Zilker mini. We will meet at the Polo Picnic Table area (where we set up for Ice Bowl each year; by the parking lot for the north side of the course), starting about 7:30 – 7:45 pm, depending on when the mini ends.
We will be focusing mainly on Waterloo, but also talking about the ongoing work at Manor and Searight, work days at Circle C and Zilker later this fall/winter, and maybe preparing the latest newsletter. Everyone is welcome to attend.
28th Waterloo CFR discs and minis will be available for sale, see last email item for more info (special price for people who attend the meeting).
-------------------------------------------------------
The 28th Waterloo Candy Fundraising Discs and Minis from Innova have arrived! They are the full <font color="red"> INNcolor glow orcs </font> and <font color="green"> INNcolor minis </font> , both featuring a great photo of Father Dave from the 2000 Waterloo tournament. The prices on these are higher than usual for fundraiser discs around here, but the extra proceeds will all go towards the fundraising. Dave was a big supporter of the Austin Ronald McDonald House, and if we sell all of these fundraisers, we’ll be able to significantly increase this year’s donation.
Prices are:
$40 INNcolor Glow Orc
$10 INNcolor Mini
We think that these will be very popular this year, and we want to be able to get them to everyone who wants them, so we are limiting purchases for now to 1 disc and 1 mini per person.
These will be available for purchase at the Thursday mini.
They will also be available at the Thursday meeting AND if you come to the meeting, you can get $5 off the disc&mini price ($45 for the combo - disc & mini - instead of $50).
Here is a link to the club’s website where you can see a picture of the disc (although it looks a lot better in person than in that photo – brighter, more green; especially on the minis). We’ll try to get a better picture of the disc up soon. http://www.austindiscgolf.org

Any of you Waterloo Ladies who want to have a good time with some of your fellow female golfers, I invite you to come out to Twin Parks on October 22nd for our first Hill Country Women's Retreat. The format will be 2 rounds of 9, with lunch in between, followed by snacks, drinks, and professional massage by the pool. The flyer is up on our website now, and I will be adding more information this week. Also, to show our appreciation for Waterloo's support of our club, all Waterloo's female members gets $5 off the entry. So come on out, and bring your friends...you couldn't ask for a better environment to introduce some new women to the sport of disc golf. If you have any questions, check out our website, or call me at 512-858-2924. Thanks, and I hope to see you gals there.

There won’t be a club weekly mini or newbie night at Zilker this Thursday evening (oct 13th), instead we will be working on finalizing all the details for the Waterloo tournament this weekend. However, we will resume with the mini and newbie night on Oct 20th.
Then Oct 27th will be the final night of the year because the time change occurs a few days later and it will be getting dark too early to have it. Any unclaimed ace pot at the end of the mini on the 27th will be paid out through a CTP.
Below is some information about Waterloo, mainly for people not in the singles part of the tournament. There is also a lot more info and answers to common questions on the waterloo club site www.austindiscgolf.org. (http://www.austindiscgolf.org.) Just go to the tournament page by clicking on the tournament logo (or the direct link is http://www.austindiscgolf.org/Classic%202005.htm). Info includes parking, directions, check-in, doubles, full schedule for the weekend, fundraising stuff, CFRs, etc. Check back during the week for any additional updates.
Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club
This weekend (October 14-16, 2005) will be the
28th ANNUAL WATERLOO DISC GOLF CLASSIC
IN MEMORY OF DAVID TAYLOE
BENEFITING THE AUSTIN RONALD McDONALD HOUSE
HONORING THE SPIRIT OF OUR BELOVED FRIEND
Even if you aren’t playing in the singles part of the event on Saturday and Sunday, you can still come play Doubles on Friday, October 14th. There will be a lot of fun going on all weekend, for players and spectators, so come on down and join us for a special Austin event.
Doubles: Friday October 14th, flex start 1 pm – 4:30/5:00 -ish. Open to everyone, $10 per person, bring your own partner. We will have to stop accepting teams around 4:30 – 5 pm, so that everyone who starts will be able to finish before dark. Results will be posted as soon as possible on Saturday. Awards for doubles will be ready by lunch on Sunday the 16th. Leave contact info when signing up if you won’t be around on Sunday. Last year, we pushed over 60 teams through on Friday, so the course plays fairly quickly. Show up early for the best chance to play, don’t wait until late in the afternoon and take a chance on being turned away. Cards will be limited to 2 teams to keep things flowing smoothly.
Also, we will be holding a huge raffle (over $1,000 worth of stuff, including a basket) and silent auction (lots of great stuff to bid on) all weekend. You don’t have to be present to win. All proceeds go towards the fundraising.
Plus, we will be having the inaugural the inaugural Tayloe Toe Throw on Sunday October 16th, right after lunch. Dave held the world record for throwing a Frisbee with his toes, hurling a disc 137 feet. We will gather in the fairway of hole #4 to have fun trying to duplicate this feat. The event is fee and everyone is invited to participate. I’m sure Dave’s spirit will be with us as we make fools of ourselves trying to do this. We’ll have some official Father Dave stuff to give away as prizes. Come join the fun!
Waterloo Park is located in downtown Austin. It is bordered by E.15th, Red River, E.12th, and Trinity. Tournament HQ is on the wooden deck near Trinity & E.13th.
Parking could be difficult on Friday and Saturday, but will be very easy on Sunday. On Friday, the state parking garages on Trinity, across the street from the park, will not be available until after 5 pm. On Saturday, they will not be available at all most of the day because of the UT football game that day (unless you pay the parking fee - $5 last year). On Sunday, all of the garages will be available for free parking. For other parking, there is a small lot in the park that will be free all 3 days (enter off of 12th Street - but it doesn’t hold too many cars). There are also parking meters on Red River, 12th, 13th, and 14th streets, and some on Trinity and Brazos. You will have to pay the meters on Friday until about 5 or 6 pm, but they should be free the rest of the weekend (be sure to check the actual meter for exact times you must pay).

Just a reminder that this Thursday, October 27th, is the club’s final Zilker weekly mini of the season. Sign-up starts at 5 pm and tee off is at 5:30, and we are on the south layout now. The ace pot carried over from last week starts at $22. If there are no aces this week, then there will be a CTP at the end of the round to give away the money. If we have a good turnout, there could easily be $60 - $80 up for grabs.
We also have a few more of the full color Tayloe minis for $10, and we’ll have them available for purchase at the mini. If you’d like to reserve one, just let me know.

Hello Disc Golfers,
While the Waterloo tournament is over, the fundraising hasn’t quite ended yet. We have put up several really great discs on ebay (through Lou Moreno’s account), including 2 San Marino Rocs, an Ontario Roc, and a couple of Big Bead Aviars. All the proceeds go towards the fundraising and you can make your payments payable directly to the Austin Ronald McDonald House in order to get the tax benefits of a charitable donation. There are a few days left on the bidding so please go check them out and bid generously on these cool collector’s discs.
This will be our best year of fundraising ever in the eight years we have done Waterloo as a charity event, but you can help make it even better!!! :D
The link to see and bid on the discs is:

Thanks!

Waterloo’s next newsletter is due out in January, and we want to invite you to be a part of it. Please submit your stories, articles, poems, notices, etc by Tuesday night, December 20th. They don’t have to be long, or even serious. They can be humorous or disc golf stories or anything related to the club or our sport.
Don’t feel like you have to be a good writer to do something like this. Just tell the story and we’ll do any cleanup that might be necessary.
Photos wanted too.
Email items to me at gordon@ventbird.com
Thanks!

This year the Waterloo Disc Golf Club is becoming a PDGA Affiliate Club. Any current club member that wishes to join the PDGA or renew their PDGA membership through the club will receive a $5 discount on those membership fees. It will also allow current club members to take the PDGA officials test at no cost and receive a 10% discount at Discovering The World, an online disc golf vendor. (http://www.dtworld.com)
Waterloo DGC will also be receiving its own forum on the PDGA DISCussion board. It will be located at the bottom of the page but will be easy to find since it will be the last of the alphabetically listed PDGA affiliate clubs.
The PDGA membership forms must be submitted in bulk. If you are interested in renewing your PDGA membership through Waterloo, the form will be available soon at http://www.austindiscgolf.org and can be submitted with your Waterloo membership renewal.
Waterloo will be sending the bundled forms to the PDGA on January 16 and February 6, 2006. The PDGA membership forms must be received by January 15th to be submitted with the first bundle and can be done in person at the Winter Ranch mini at Twin Parks that weekend. To have your PDGA membership submitted with the second bundle, forms must be received by February 4th, which is also the date of the Ice Bowl at Zilker Park.
Please contact Lou Moreno by PM or at texas_me@hotmail.com for more information on renewing your PDGA membership through the Waterloo Club.
