View Full Version : EBay alert thread...a DG public service

Jun 29 2003, 01:15 PM
On another discussion board that I'm an occasional contributor to (Ovation Fan Club, for those of us Ovation guitar collectors that like to talk about our sweet axes), we have a tendency to alert each other when something cool comes up on eBay (like that sweet GP-1 that's making me drool).

The Trader's Row thread isn't really appropriate for this either since its for trades, primarily.

So, I figured I'd start this so that those of us on the board could give each other a heads up when we're selling stuff or when we see something cool we'd like the group to know about.

All I'd ask is that we try to refrain from pitching stuff. For instance, I've got a few discs up on the bay right now. I'll list what they are here and leave the pitch to my item description on my auction listing.

Fair 'nuff?

Jun 29 2003, 02:27 PM
Oh I get it, what you really meant to say is this thread was intended to alert us to what YOU have for sale on ebay. Nice job spamboy.

Jun 29 2003, 03:48 PM
No, anonymous dilweed, that's not what I meant to say. I wanted to post something and didn't see an appropriate place for it (you know, one that wouldn't be considered spam) so I started a thread that was more appropriate for that use. And its for everyone to use. Alot of us sell on eBay. You can use it too, if you can figure out how.

There wasn't an underlying spam intent, although since you don't seem too bright, I'm not surprised that you didn't figure that out.

Dork.

Jun 29 2003, 04:01 PM
Ditto yo Mark - I am glad you started this thread so I can post stuff when I put it up too! /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

Jun 29 2003, 04:18 PM
Thanks Gimpster. I think it'll be beneficial to a lot of folks, I was just worried that someone was gonna take it the wrong way. Evidently, someone did, but hopefully most people won't.

Jun 29 2003, 06:43 PM
wow, dilweed and dork, i wish i wuz as smart as you am and maybe i would have thunk up them words, if your intent was noble, well then good for you, seems a little self centered to me when you start the thing off with 5 of your own auctions, but then i guess i should have expected nothing less, im sure you will find other ways to make this message board serve your own good as well.

anonymous dilweed

Jun 29 2003, 06:57 PM
Oh my apologies, after rereading your second post i see you weren't calling me a dork, you were signing off as "dork" i didn't catch that the first time. Oh and yes i do use ebay, i just do not use nonprofit message boards to promote & profit from my auctions, my morals wont allow that, or maybe its ethics. I just know I do not like coming in here and seeing your commercials, and i'm sure there are many others who feel the same way.

anonymous dilweed

Jun 29 2003, 07:07 PM
I don't think i would be looking at the message board if it didn't "serve my own good".

Jun 29 2003, 07:25 PM
I didn't say my intent was "noble." It wasn't evil, but it wasn't completely selfless. I thought I made that clear. Anyway, my apologies to those who think a separate thread for this kind of thing is inappropriate (except to kuz, who's invited to kiss myass).

By the way, nice moral code you got there that lets you hide behind a fake name and email to attack somebody who's always tried to act correctly on the board. Dilweed and dork were a little off, as coward is more accurate.

If the moderators think this thread is inappropriate then I'd ask they please pull it.

Jun 29 2003, 07:30 PM
True Ric, but do you use it as a vehicle to promote and advertise your own business ventures?
I mean lets not stop here, lets let Innova, Discraft, Gateway, and all the others start posting their products on here. And lets not stop with disc golf products either, Miller Lite, Marlboro, Wrigleys Spearament, Old Navy....they all have a place here right?

Jun 29 2003, 07:41 PM
I prefer chicken, but you can call me anything you like if it makes you feel better.

I think what has you so upset is that deep down you know i'm right.

BTW - that's a pretty spankin' Warlock there Martyr! Wow!

Mark, maybe you should use the "Shameless Self-Promotion" thread to list your own autions, and this new thread to point out nice finds that aren't your auctions.

That's what I was expecting after reading your guitar blurb.

Jun 29 2003, 11:58 PM
Sorry bud. Hey, not all my ideas can be ground breakingly groovetastic. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I genuinely thought it would be a cool idea, since I've missed alot of cool stuff that I've had to hear about later. I promise it wasn't intended just for posting my own stuff.

Of course, I didn't expect the venomous reaction it stirred in at least one person, but sometimes you knock 'em over the fence and sometimes you whiff. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I knew y'all could get into the spirit of it.

There's an example of the more philanthropic way this should work below.

I don't run glow events, but many of you do. Check this out for glow sticks for baskets:

Tube of 100 glowsticks (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3614936487&category=20 20)

I'm on the lookout the some of the disc lights too, but I haven't run across any sweet deals on those just yet.

"2001 CE Roc" (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3615002483&category=20 851)

Not really a PSA. More of a ICBWPWPFTD. Maybe it is time to reach into the closet and list an auction...

But seriously, I guess if you are in need of a 2001 CE Roc, I have just helped you locate one.

I Can't Believe What People Will Pay For That Disc

Jun 30 2003, 01:44 AM
That isn't as stunning to me Rhett as what people are now paying for 2nd run Valks. I've been away from the eBay scene for awhile (thus the "missing out" I mentioned ealier), but last I checked they were going for around $40-$45. Now I look back into the auctions the other day and they're going for $70 ! Whaaaa? Definitely an ICBWPWPFTD situation.

Speaking of Rocs though, why don't we ever see the 2nd year CE's for sale? I don't know anything about them except that a good friend of mine throws the crap out of 'em. How much do they go for when they do hit eBay? Anyone?

Jun 30 2003, 02:04 AM
they are on e-bay all the time, for a while they were dirt cheap because everyone is partial to the 2001 ce roc, but now, people have found out that it is a super roc in ce plastic, so now people are buying em up... they go for about $60-75 on e-bay as of late.

gokayaksteven
Jun 30 2003, 11:46 AM
do folks sell slightly used discs on e-bay?

Jun 30 2003, 12:02 PM
Yup, they sure do. I've even seen used San Marino Rocs and used CE stuff go for some pretty big amounts on there.

Used doesn't always mean used up. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Here's something pretty freakin cool from the world of eBay (and no, its not mine, KuzIn*hit):

Steady Ed's Original Frisbee Patent (repro) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3136431911&category=11 84)

Jun 30 2003, 01:47 PM
Well A.J., it seems that the discussion about the 2nd year Rocs (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3615956627&category=20 851) inspired somebody. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

And, it had to happen soon, someone's got a new Candy Archangel (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3615957517&category=20 851) up. This should be interesting to watch.

Jun 30 2003, 01:54 PM
Geez...I've got a pile of CE Valks at home (don't know how many are 2nd run tho) that I've hoarded over the past 2 1/2 years. I just couldn't bear to sell them...they're like my babies... ;)

Over $100 for a CE Roc tho? That's crackalicious.. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jun 30 2003, 02:05 PM
I wouldn't sell those either, Lonay. By the way, what did you say you're address was?

Anyone seen one of these discs before? I don't think that it is what the seller is saying it is, but I may be wrong. I seem to remember that these just came out this year for the A3 one disc challenge and were an unidentified disc at the time. Anybody else got an opinion?

Dave Bourgeois:

Its a Wasp. I have proto-Wasps, first-run Wasps, last month's Wasps. They are all the same. Same is good for players, not so good for speculators. Great disc for $8. "There's one born every minute" disc for $20!

This year's One-Disc was a new mold that is not in production. The one I threw was very stable, not overstable, and slow like Wasp, but with a very simple beadless triangular rim. I heard that there are no plans to produce it this year, but *someone* might be producing it next year.

Dave B - the "one disc challenge" disc this year (which I believe is the one pictured on the auction you linked) was an as yet unnamed mold (according to Pad). I don't know about the sticker the lister describes, but the sticker on the one disc challenge disc I have reads "prototype midrange" and lists the date 4/30/03 without mention of "wasp" in any way. There is no embossed text on the rim or underside of my disc, which is usually the case with brand new molds, and this would be a good way to distinguish between discs. Both the color and stamp of the disc pictured are consistent with the one disc challenge (and I'm not sure why Bruce suggests it is a wasp)

Mark - You should have ordered some Z storms when I offered them for a mere $15 a pop. Try a search of online retailers. I know most of the 500 were sold to shops, and one owner I talked to recently said she'd sold nearly all of her allotment for $25 a pop.

Hey KellyBob, is that by any chance an "EL" CE Eagle? It won't say EL but you can tell its not a regular Eagle rim. They're flatter and without the little "bead" on the edge. No idea how many of these were made, but somewhere in the second and third runs are where they're found, I think.

I've kinda fallen in love with those, a bit too late it seems, and I'm trying to track a few more down to supplement the three I have. You know, no such thing as too much of a good thing, or sumpin' like dat.

...darn bunch of stick in the muds.

Jul 16 2003, 02:54 PM
Seems silly to me...

I really enjoy seeing what people who I know from this community have for sale. I also like seeing oddities that I might not run across myself. Seems like there would be plenty of things to take off this page before removing the ebay thread lol

Jul 16 2003, 03:59 PM
I meant no disrespect. I intended my post in the spirit of the thread. I am sorry.

gnduke
Jul 16 2003, 05:39 PM
I think the thread has merits that make it worth keeping around. It is not like nobody ever advertises on any other thread, and it is not being used by used by the general vendors. Some useful stuff every now and again.

The little money I've made on EBAY will be funneled directly into the PDGA and the greater Kansas City area to cover my AM Worlds expenses.

rickb
Jul 16 2003, 08:21 PM
Killing this thread would be a mistake. At the very least most of the posts come from PDGA members who support the PDGA in numerous ways. TD's, volunteers and so on.

If this is the final decision then I also suggest that we kill the Reese threads and any other thread that discusses anything that may come across as offensive. If we're going to censor then let's do it all the way and not be selective.

Jul 16 2003, 10:28 PM
Theo,
As long as you don't continue to beat up on me at every event in the Oregon series, I'll be good. Play Masters, you age bagger!

Jul 16 2003, 11:08 PM
Theo, a little self policed (problematic, I know) use of ONE centrally located thread reagrding these items was what I was after. I think that's a little different than example you're using (with all due respect to the person involved /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif).

In your defense, I'd agree that the number of posts and threads deleted by you on this board is dwarfed by the numbers of same on many other message boards with this kind of volume (although there aren't too many of those creatures in existence. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ).

Keep up the good work, and as I said, I'll comply if required.

Jul 16 2003, 11:16 PM
Kelly, nice duck.

rickb
Jul 16 2003, 11:25 PM
Theo
Please don't get me wrong in my defense of this thread. I come to this message board for information about everything Disc Golf.
If we use this board to broaden information about this sport then it is serving it's purpose. Maybe even creating a thread that deals exclusively with internet sites would be a good thing. I own a Disc Golf store here in Charlotte. Not only do we sell and offer free lessons but we support and sponsor most tournamnets in the surrounding states as well as the USDGC. We also run an A-tier event. Until this sport reaches a level of other sports, then I'll take advertising any way I can get it. Supporting those who support the sport is what makes us strong. It also makes all the long hours and money we put in worth it seeing as most of these ventures are just expensive hobbies.
Exposure is what is going to make us grow.

Jul 16 2003, 11:26 PM
> But where are you supposed to draw the line between posting links to your items on eBay, and someone posting a link to a website where you can buy their disc golf carts?

At the point someone posts the link on EVERY THREAD in the message board without regard to the thread topic, which was the case with link to the disc carts.

IMO, it's fairly simple: links/ads that are on-topic are acceptable; links/ads that are off-topic are unacceptable. Posting links/ads on a thread dedicated to eBay listings is acceptable because they are on topic; posting them on threads concerning tournament info, disc golf courses, player and course ratings, throwing techniques, dg rules, clubs, etc. (as well as miscellaneous and disc golf equipment threads which are not dedicated to bags and/or carts) is unacceptable because they are off topic.

Jul 17 2003, 12:07 AM
Theo,
Very ironic as I was thinking about this thread and its relevancy towards the general theme of this web site. I was considering to myself the philosophy of individuals that tooting your own horn on this board for monetary gain is a bad thing. I have seen it before here. Someone posts somethings that vaguely looks like they are self promoting and invariably some calls ego on them.

I would ask you a question though. What is the difference between me or anyone else hawking a few items on the board and someone who is a for profit td who hypes their event or president of a disc manufacturing company that relates information and possibly hypes characteristics of their products on this board?

I would submit to you....nothing. Its just a question of whether or not it is contained in a thread forum that is relevant. So far this thread has been thread relevant and has done NO harm. Not interested? Don't read. Interested? Peruse.

If you want to pull this thread then take out the Texas 10 thread as it is a tournament series that, while furthers the game and brings enlightenment to our sport through sponsorship relationships, is also a livelihood venture for its tournament director. The same for any of Maces threads, and any individual who has any personal gain to be had by being noticed and pandered to on this board.

Let it go! Keep people thread relevant and keep America beautiful!

(Camera pans wide as Kelly sits by his window sipping a cold glass of lemonade. The sweet sounds of Lee Greenwoods "Proud to Be an American" are heard in the background. Kelly turn to the camera, smiles and winks and says, " Thanks Theo, you saved me from another self promoting hedonist!"

I understand what you are saying Theo, but I think this thead does not cross the line. I don't read many of the thread anymore, but I have found myself checking this one to see what is currently on Ebay.

I also understand the DiscGolf.com is a great place to have links to all the disc golf web sites, but you can't post there what you think of them.

I think you will find that very few people who read this board object to this thread.

Now the barage of post for the golf carts and the XXX site for PDGA donations was a bit over the line. (I could also object to the disc that Eric posted, but I think this is the place for it)

Basicly, they are going to get posted and have been posted. I agree with Mark, this is a good place for those posts.

For what its worth. The USDGC gave out Leopards that look similar to yours in the 2002 USDGC players pack. If it is from 2002 rather than 2003 it is probably a Leopard. If it is being sold/ given out this year, your guess is as good as mine.

Just a note to those watching and bidding on this week's HCF Stuff (http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=46060246&ssPageName=L2), that I'll be leaving here on Thursday to begin my quest for another state championship. I won't be able to mail out any discs until I return home on Monday. Thanks for your interest.

I'm getting rid of everything, but I don't want to mess with eBay. I'll e-mail a list if anybody wants one or you can go here:

http://www.hfds.org/cgi/discus/discus.cgi

scroll down to buyers and sellers, go to "The Colonel's selling his stash" and scroll down to find the word file attachment.

Also want to let you know that when I closed the list my puter detected the bloodhound virus connected to your file. You may want to check into that.

Nope, he posted on the Carrollton thread that he is not coming. Sounds like he needs our prayers.

I wouldn't have seen him anyway, since I won't be there either. The 6 mile trip is just too far...

But I WILL be at Z10Final. I LOVE 1 day tournaments!

Mark Atwood, I've sent you a couple of emails but haven't heard back from you about the disc I won on ebay. Let me know.

Oct 16 2003, 09:16 AM
Lou, please resend them (although I think I remember the jist) because looked and I can't find them.

Oct 16 2003, 10:52 AM
Mark, I sent them to the zeecon address I got from ebay. I'll drop you an email at the address on your profile from the board.

Oct 16 2003, 12:36 PM
The zeecon address is the good one Lou. I just can't seem to locate them. They could've been deleted accidentally. I haven't been too on top of things lately. Sorry.

Oct 16 2003, 01:03 PM
Mark, have you had any luck finding black magnets?

Oct 16 2003, 06:00 PM
Nope, sorry Chile Man. I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for you though.

Good thing the rating chart was provided so the buyer will fully understand it's flight characteristics. /clipart/wink.gif
It would truly be a crime to actually throw that disc.

Nov 02 2003, 08:27 PM
Maybe I should put my Discraft Photo autographed Barry Schultz 2003 World Champion disc out there along with its flight characteristics too!

Do you think it's worth more because it's on Discraft plastic? /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

I missed my chance at collecting a Ken Climo 11x last summer, but I do have his autograph on the Final 9 scorecard - would that count? /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

I've got two from Cam and two from the [former] Winnie Crew. I am shamed because I haven't had the courage to ask Des for one yet. /msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif

Hamm: my advice to you would be DON'T SELL IT!

Nov 02 2003, 08:29 PM

Just FYI - there are a group of Steady Ed Commemerative Mini's being sold on ebay for $9.99 each. If you actually want one of these, you can purchase directly from the DGA for only $5.00 for the same mini. Don't learn the hard way /msgboard/images/clipart/sad.gif

This is selling for $12 on zonedrivens website. This is not rare, just new. These guys are going to pay $20+ on ebay for it. Heads up!
