View Full Version : Sneeky Pete Tournament format
The ACE club in Burlington NC has been throwing out ideals on running a different type of format for the Sneeky Pete Classic coming up later this year in September. We are looking for all types of feedback on the possibility.
The format would be.
3 rounds of golf to every division.
After the completion of the 3 rounds a cut would be made to the top 3rd(possibly greater) to each division.
A final 9 (possibly more) of scamble holes would be set up on the Cedarock course for those that made the cut to compete on.
Each division would be assigned a block of specific tee times that would follow after the conclusion of the 3rd round.
This format would allow for spectators and players to watch the finals for most divisions.
During this time the ACE club would also host several other extra activities that could win prizes.
This would also free up the afternoon for those that didnt make the cut. I know how long some of these tournaments can take, and at times all you can think about in the final round is getting the heck out of dodge!
If any other clubs have done something simular please let me know how it went. Any other players that frequently play in this event, let me know your thoughts as well.
We want to try to make this a great event for all that attend so let us know!
Thanks!

personaly, I hate cuts and final nines. When I pay an entry fee, I want to play 4 rounds of golf.
Thanks Robert. Im sure I can guess why you hate them......
Remember this isnt set in stone. We want to get opinions from everyone.

I agree with Robert(possibly my first time). Sneaky Pete is one tourney that I enjoy hanging around and doing the field events. There are usually no out of town big names, so it's the same people that are always there. The tourney works fine. LL

I have an idea, get a dictionary and look up ideal.
4 rounds and then a final 9
Idea.........
So sorry master Hysell....
Don't you have anything better to do than look for errors in these post.
Your contributions have been noted. As usual they amount to nothing.

Mike,
I also prefer 4 rounds of Golf.
I caught a lot of flack the year the Crosstown went to 3 rounds with a 4th round for the top 50%.
Please don't let them change the Sneeky Pete.

Michael, I should not be faulted for my personal problems. I can't help it and do it to everyone. I even cirle up misspelled or misused words in the newspaper. I recently wrote a letter to a very popular website and let them know that they had used the wrong word on their homepage. It's not my fault.
No worries. I figured it was a chemical imbalance or something genetic anyway. I always knew you were a freak!
Hope you can make the Sneeky Pete in September. Hopefully you can bring a whole crew of VA boys (and ladies of course) with yah. Some of them are playing some great golf right now!

I did that on purpose to see if someone from NC would catch it. Michael blew it but a Virginian jumped right on it. Good job Vince.
> I did that on purpose
Yeah. Right. Next, you're going to tell us you're switching to Team Lightning. /clipart/happy.gif
I actually noticed it, and thought it was pretty funny. I just dont see a need to point out mistakes made on a keyboard/message board like others do. I know what he meant to say.
You can draw your own conclusions.

I have mixed feelings on this one. Yeah, I agree 4 rounds is great but we do that week in and week out and sometimes it gets a little boring. Sometimes a change, even if it only happens once, isn't a bad thing. I personally like to watch others play just as much as I like to play but I never get that chance. How about those that have never seen The Great Larry Leonard or 11x World Champ Ken Climo play. Or how about those local advanced guys like Lil' Dean and Nate Bond. A finals would allow others to see what makes these guys and gals good enough to be in that final round. I think as long as the format has been decided, well before the tournament of course and the final 9 safari or whatever has been set that there should be no problem having a finals.

Walt, is that something that you and Larry have going on? Does the worst finisher have to call the other one "The Great"? I bet Larry was getting tired of calling you The Great Walter Haney.
Walt,
That is exactly the thoughts of the ACE club. Week in and week out we play tournaments all over the country. They are always 4 rounds. Always the same format. We thought it would be interesting to mix it us from the norm. You would play 3 rounds, have a cut, then a final safari round for those that made it. I enjoy watching players play golf as well, but we also thought it would be great for all divisions to get a chance to watch some great golf, from great disc golfers. Since we all play at the same time, we never get a chance to watch what some of the best players in the region are doing. This could be a great learning session for a lot of people. This would give people a chance to unwind, relax, have a drink, maybe even video tape it for memories.
How often do players of lesser skill levels get a chance to watch some great golfers play? Not very often. This could be a great way to get them involved as well. They may learn a lot from this format. We have to think of others here and not just what we prefer. I love the 4 round format as well, but sometimes change is good.
On another note, Walt dont seel yourself short. You are one of the most exciting players to watch. Not in this region, but in the world!!
We are meeting this weekend to discuss the final format. Once we all decide I will post. You will have well over 30 days notice to decide if this tournament will be one you would like to play in. Hopefully if the changes are made you will still support the tournament, if not I understand.

errors in the above post will be noted by the great Master Hysell.
Stand by.

Dear Dr. Watson, I have decided that it is much more fun to annoy the people at work instead of the people on this board. I will offer my opinion on this issue. I enjoy playing four round events. I also like tournaments that finish early on Sundays so that I don't have to spend half of my night on the road. I hate playing a lousy 4th round and losing money. I love playing a good 4th round when someone else is having a lousy round and giving up money. Here is my final answer. The Sneeky Pete is on my calendar and I will be there and I will play the format that you decide upon.
BTW, Mike Norris sent me a flyer for an upcoming event and there was a word spelled wrong and I didn't email him back and tell him. I'm trying to be less anal.
Ooh come on now Chris. I look forward to those post. Your a trip. I enjoy the remarks you make, good or bad.
You make some good points above about the format. Another big reason we are tooling with this
idea <---that better) is so out of towners didnt spend the whole evening travelling home. I know whatever we decide, there will be those that disagree. Its a no win situation. I hope the final say doesent stop people from attending.
see yah soon flatop! GL in the worlds!

Just remember that most disagreements are from players who have never had the opportunity to run a tournament. I changed one of the words in the previous sentence. At one point it was gonads.

the state fdc's only had 3 rounds last year, but for field events instead of a final 9 round, and all i heard was positive feedback for the most part. personally, i like the idea of an abnormal format.
Mike,
No matter what y'all decide, I will be there.

I think the format sounds great. I would enjoy watching Walt and Larry go at it. My video camera will be on! I also agree with Walt when he said he enjoys watching other players play just as much as playing. Rob taped the distance competition after the tourney last weekend and I had a blast watching that. You should also look at it from the other side as well. Just think how exciting it would be to have a gallery watching YOU play the final 9. I was in a 3 hole playoff in Zeb and we had about 30 people watching us. Even though it was only for a 3rd place trophy disc in the am division, it felt great!

Mike, Dan, Brad, and the rest of the B'ton crew,
Thanks for the Pro-Am. Things were great.
Please don't shorten the Pete to less than four rounds. Burlington is almost exactly in the middle of the state. Travel time home on Sundays is less of an issue than with most other NC t'ments.
LW
Larry-
It will more than likely be 4 rounds, or close to it. You may just have to make a cut to play that final round. We will go over all these post at our meeting and take everyones opinion into consideration. Again whatever is decided, wont please everyone. Either way come play. We always have fun at the Rock!
-m
Larry you would of made the cut this past weekend with your scores /clipart/proud.gif. And you always leave a few out on the course!! I hope you will still join us whatever we decide.
