View Full Version : Division Registration with the PDGA

Mar 23 2000, 02:30 PM
First, let me reference the following rule:

804.08
B. A player may not enter a division below that which they are registered with the PDGA. A player may enter a division above their PDGA registered division. A player may enter a division which is parallel to their PDGA division. For example, a player registered in Advanced may play in an Advanced Master division.

If I am reading this right, then a player who is signed up as a Pro Grandmaster can play as a Pro Grandmaster, Pro Master and Pro Open. If that is the case, then when 50 year old Dr. Vick Roakes sends in his renewal to the PDGA, his Member Card should read "Pro Grandmaster". He may never play in that division, but if he wanted to, and he registered with the PDGA as Pro Open and presented his Pro Open card as proof he was current, it would cause more work for the TD/Registrar to confirm that he was age-eligible for that division:

Summary: When a player joins/renews, his/her only option is to pick Novice, Intermediate, Advanced or Pro. He/she is assigned a subdivision based on the most age protected one that he/she is eligible for.

A small point, to be sure, but it would make the Tournament staff's work easier, and I've seen lesser points debated in this venue.

What do y'all think?

Bill,

I'm glad that you opened this thread because I was just wondering and pondering about this very topic. Say a player plays the whole year in Pro Open and when the World's rolls around, can he or she play in Pro Master if they are of age.

Your Worlds invitation is not division specific even if you qualified with points in only one division. You are allowed to enter whatever division that you meet the requirements. So, a 40-year old woman who qualified for Worlds as a Pro Woman could enter MPO, FPO, FPM or MPM.

The players DOB is on the PDGA card now.
