Good news! The District of Columbia finally has a Disc Golf Course! The Mall Madness Disc Golf Course is open for business! The course was designed by me, Testudo. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Sadly, I couldn't get permission from the National Parks Service to install any Pole Holes or Tees, even though I was going to pay for them myself. The good news is that The Mall features plenty of good "natural" objects which can be used as target holes, and has plenty of flat, well maintained, surfaces to tee off with.
Mall Madness is long and features numerous obstacles to be negotiated, namely pedestrians, cars, trees, and national monuments. The Mall is usually packed with pedestrians: tourists, joggers, professional workers, you name it. Your main objective, besides shooting a low score, is to avoid hitting pedestrians at all costs. Pedestrians do not like to be hit by golf discs. Some will chuck your disc in the opposite direction. Some will take your disc and walk away. Some will even charge you with the intent to cause bodily harm to you. The 30 sec. rule still applies on this course. Often times you will be forced to throw in a direction you wouldn't normally throw, simply because you don't want to throw towards a large pack of pedestrians. One word of advice: Yell "FORE!!" loud and often. ;)
Some holes require you to throw over busy roads. Be careful, you don't want to peg a car with your disc. You don't know who is in those cars. It could be a gang banger from Southeast. It could be a burly construction worker with a plethora of nasty tools. It could be a stressed out Capital Hill intern. You just don't know. Either wait for a hole in the traffic or be confident as hell in your approach shot.
Have fun!
Here is the course layout. Unless indicated, Tee off areas are anywhere with a 10 ft radius of the previous target hole.
1 (4)- Tee off from anywhere on top step of the Lincoln Memorial. Target Hole is a bench at the far end of the reflecting pool. Trees on both sides of pool is OB. Total length = 520 ft. (approx.)
2 (4)- Target Hole is any of the soldiers in the Korean War Memorial. Total length = 410 ft. (approx.)
3 (3)- Target Hole is any soldier in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Throw in between Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool. Total length = 240 ft. (approx.)
4 (5)- Target Hole is the Washington Monument! Must cross a pond, a road, and throw in between numerous flag poles. Total length = 625 ft. (approx.)
5 (4)- Must tee off from inside flag pole ring (within 5 ft. of Monument). Target Hole is any trash can on the Mall in front of the Holocaust Museum. You have to cross 14th street and Independance Ave.! Total length = 475 ft. (approx.)
6 (5)- Target Hole is the Jefferson Memorial. You have to cross busy 4-lane road. Tidal Basin on right. Cherry trees everywhere. Total length = 524 ft. (approx.)
7 (5)- Target Hole is Tidal Basin boat ramp snack bar building. Direct drive from Jeffersom Memorial to snack bar is entirely over water; 340 ft. (approx.). Safe play is to the right side, which still requires a good 200 ft. drive to clear water.
8 (3)- Severe L-shaped dogleg right. Target Hole is any bench in between Bureau of Engraving building and Holocaust Musuem. Approach shot is very difficult if you don't have the right angle to the hole. Total length = 250 ft. (approx.).
9 (4)- Tee off in front of Holocaust Musuem (facing Mall). Target Hole is any trash can on the Mall, in front of the Musuem of American History. Total length = 380 ft. (approx.)
10 (3)- Target Hole is any trash can on The Mall, in front of the Smithsonian Castle. Must cross 12th street. Total length = 310 ft. (approx.)

12 (3)- Target Hole is any statue in front (Mall side) of the Hirshhorn Musuem. Statues reside on a plateau 10 ft. below Mall level. Total length = 200 ft. (approx.)
13 (4)- Blind Tee shot up out of the Hirshhorn statue area. Target Hole is any of the pillars in front of the Natural Gallery of Art. Total length = 220 ft. (approx.)
14 (3)- Target Hole is any bench at the end of The Mall, directly before 3rd Street. Total length = 180 ft. (approx.)
15 (5)- Tee off from end of The Mall, in front of 3rd Street. Target Hole is Washington Monument! Dirt paths on each side of the main Mall lawn, and everything beyond them, is OB! Total length = 800 ft. (approx.)

18 (5)- Target Hole is President Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial! Must throw in between trees on both sides of the Reflecting Pool. Total length = 590 ft. (approx.)
