Howdy Y'all. (There should be a smiley emoticon with a cowboy hat on for lines like that.)

Hill Country Flyers is proud to announce that on the heels of the successful monthly minis at Lago Vista we are expanding. Starting January 26 at 10:30 a.m. HCF Monthly Minis are coming to Cameron Park in Waco.

The 4th Sunday of each month will be my day to get to spend more time than ever before at one of my favorite places to play disc golf. A longtime favorite of players all over Tejas, Cameron Park seemed to be a great fit when I was looking for another place to hold a monthly mini. We have the support and encouragement of Joey Harrell, aka Waco Golf Guru, and I'm sure the locals will be looking forward to seeing our smiling faces once a month.

Like the Lago mini, the Cameron Park monthly will offer as many divisions as we can muster (Pros $8 Ams $5), pick your own payout for Ams, all the coolest and newest plastic I can find and a day of great golf at one of Texas's most scenic courses. The mighty Brazos is quite an imposing water hazard, wouldn't you say? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

The ace pot will be $2, instead of the $1 I have been using. Many players told me they'd rather throw in an extra buck since we throw off for the pot (CTP) if nobody hits it during the round. The ace pot will go to $2 in Lago too. I thought about rolling the pot between the two courses to let it get big and juicy, but I was afraid folks might not dig that since the courses are triple digit miles apart. Any feedback on this idea would be welcomed.

There will be a couple of events in '03 that will force me to miss a couple of the minis. Here's the schedule as it stands now:
January
1st Sunday at Lago - Yes
4th Sunday at Waco - Yes
February
1st Sunday at Lago - Yes
4th Sunday at Waco - No (Running the Victoria Open Feb. 22-23)
March

June

July

September

4th Sunday at Waco - Yes
October

November

4th Sunday at Waco - Yes (Week before Cold Turkey Classic in Austin at Bart)
December
1st Sunday at Lago - Yes
4th Sunday at Waco - Yes (Hey, you gotta try out the new plastic you get from Santa)

As you can tell from that schedule, I'm gonna be a busy guy this year and I'm gonna miss some of the events I've really enjoyed attending over the last three years. In case anyone didn't believe me when I said I was gonna TD more than I played in '03, I guess they believe me now. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I look forward to seeing you all in Waco on the 26th.

MARCHING TO WACO
Greetings Texas Disc Golfers,
Hill Country Flyers first full year organizing disc golf events kicked off with a bang Sunday, Jan. 5th, as 73 players showed up for our lil’ ole monthly get together at Lago Vista. The beautiful course on Lake Travis is in the best shape its ever been in, thanks to the back breaking work of the North Shore Disc Golf Club volunteers. I don’t know if 73 players is a record for Austin area one-round minis, but I’m certain that’s the most golfers that course has ever seen in one afternoon.

Now its time for us to get started with something that I’m personally very excited about. Tell the spouse they’ll have plenty to do, tell the kids they can go to the zoo and tell the in-laws that Sunday dinner will have to be postponed. HCF Monthly Minis are coming to Waco! Starting January 26, at 10:30 a.m., Cameron Park, a longtime favorite of Texas disc golfers, will be hosting us for a once-a-month mini on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Cameron Park itself is one of the prettiest public parks in the state and is set right alongside the mighty Brazos River. There are plenty of good eats and sights to see in Waco for non-golfers, including the Cameron Park Zoo (Sunday hours – 11 am-5 pm. Adults $4, Children (4-12) $2.).

With the encouragement and support of local disc golf guru Joey Harrell, I’ll have an excuse to spend more time than ever on one of my favorite courses. If the numbers of Joey’s Waco Charity Open, Pro and Am weekends last year, as well as Chris Himing’s 1-day, record setting ZiegenBock Texas 10 turnout of over 250 are any indication, its most likely one of your favorite courses too.

The mini’s in Waco will be singles competition with Am entry fees a low $5, while the Pros (who like to play for a little more) will pay $8. All players may participate in the optional Ace Pot for an additional $2. We’ll be doing something a little different with the Ace Pot from now on, starting in Waco this month. It will still be $2 per player, and we’ll still throw for a CTP if no one hits an ace during the round. However, if no ace is hit, the CTP winner will get half the pot, while the other half will go into a rolling pot that will travel up and down I-35 between the Lago Vista and Waco events each month. Of course, in the event that an ace is hit during a round, that player will receive the entire pot. Otherwise, it will allow a traveling pot to fatten up a bit and follow us between the two monthlies. Hopefully, if this happens, somebody’s going to get a nice little chunk of change the next time an ace goes down on either of these two courses, both of which are full of ace runs.

All the newest, latest, greatest plastic will be on hand, as well as some other disc related items. As always, if there’s something you want, let me know. Feel free to call me anytime between 9 a.m. or 9 p.m. at 512-756-7127 or drop me an email at mark@zeecon.com.

Now, I realize that Jan. 26th is Super Bowl Sunday. I called the NFL and apparently there’s just no way they can reschedule (something about pre-sold advertising or some such nonsense). The good news is that with a kickoff after 5 p.m., we’ll all be home in time to see the game (although without the Cowboys in it, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to).

If you’re not going to be able to come to the January Waco Monthly, plan on being there on Sunday March 23rd. February is the only month of the year without a scheduled Waco Monthly. That doesn’t mean we won’t be busy, since that 4th weekend, Feb. 22-23, Hill Country Flyers will be presenting the Victoria Open, a PDGA B-tier event and a ZT10 Points Qualifier Event. Check out Titledisc.com for more info on that and stay tuned for another email regarding that tourney.

Thanks to all of you, our little disc golf venture is off and rolling with a full head of steam. I hope I can return your support and confidence in Hill Country Flyers by providing fun, top-notch disc golf events for you to enjoy year round.

Peace & Plastic,
Mark Atwood
Hill Country Flyers

P.S. Look for my ’03 mini schedule in my January 3rd post on the top of this thread

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I'm thinking about flip flopping my August Lago and Waco dates...for obvious reasons. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Any feedback would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

Jan 09 2003, 11:40 PM
Hey George, what's the local word? Y'all planning on making it out to HCF Waco #1?

Frank, about that bar tab thing, you just show up and start ordering drinks and wait on me. I'll be there, yeah, that's it, just drink up and wait on me, yeah, that's it.

Jan 09 2003, 11:41 PM
How come there's no Waco guys on this thread? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

anyone other than Joey live in Waco anymore?

Jan 10 2003, 09:43 AM
George does......Mr. Monkey Love himself!!

Jan 10 2003, 05:32 PM
There are actually quite a few local players there and everytime I drive over there for a round there are players on the course. Most of them are casual golfers, but these minis are perfect for bringing casual golfers into the competitive disc golf scene. We will always strive to have a novice/rec division and new and/or casual golfers will be encouraged to participate.

In fact, a friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in about 15 years, is seriously considering coming down from Dallas with some girls from his office for a fun first time on the course.

Even the most competitive of us still like to have fun playing a round of golf. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

OK,

A quick show of hands - How many are considering the Super bowl sunday morning mini ?
The game doesn't start until 5:00. I could be back home on the north side of Dallas before 3:00.

Just wanted to get a general feeling about how many people are planning to make it to the first of these minis. And how many OMBs would be there to to hone my putting skills against.

It does need quite a bit of honing right now.

Chu, you might want to find a ride as wind up toy buses can't make the long drive. And it wouldn't be much fun to be practicing your drives in the pasture next to the road where you bus breaks down on the way there! Just kidding! Have a great time!

Good to hear that Mary Jane is back on the road!

I'll call you in the morning Mark, have to work tonight.

Jan 23 2003, 12:30 AM
NPS, it seems like there'll be too many for me to plan on playing. I thought if the idea of getting out on Super Sunday meant low attendance I would give it a shot, but with folks coming from DFW, Austin, Houston and the Waco guys planning on being there, it looks like I'll be watching you drive #16 with a putter. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Also, we might get a pretty good showing since its only one round (that's okay Pebbles, I never read the whole thread either /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ) and most folks could be home in plenty of time for kickoff.

Besides, the Cowboys aren't playing so who cares?

Jan 23 2003, 10:37 AM
nps, i wasnt worried about the freaking super bowl, since it could be 2 rounds and i'd still make it home in time.

i did read the entire thread, and the email letters, and it NOWHERE says that the mini is one round. i defy you to prove otherwise. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

and who gives a ratsass about the cowboys anyway. i'm for the redskins in the NFC and the raiders in the AFC, and have been for 30 years. RAIDERS RULE!

Jan 23 2003, 02:17 PM
Pat,
America cares about the Cowboys. They ARE Americas Team. That may make you and others like you a little, say, angry, but it is the truth. Face it and deal with it, its just the way it is.

Wow! We almost had as many players as we had degrees above zero! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif 38 Players and 41 degrees.

Thanks to all those who braved the wet and cold conditions to help us kickoff our inaugural Cameron Park Monthly. Congrats to all the winners:

Mary McGough - Advanced Women (who beat me by 5 strokes /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif)
Craig Leyva - Open
Mark Bowman - Advanced Master
Martin Tasker - Intermediate (Who had to haul *** from Austin to represent-Sorry for all the razzing my friend /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif)
Danny Dorsett - Novice/Recreational

And to Chris Wilson for hitting the $38 CTP. The other half of the collected Ace Pot will reappear next Sunday in Lago Vista.

I'll post scores later, but I wanted to tell everyone how much I appreciate your support. You guys make me feel like its all worthwhile and I get just as much enjoyment out of seeing you all on the course as I do out of being out there myself.

More to come after the game. Picked the Raiders, pulling for the Bucs. Can't lose either way and since its not the Cowboys until next year, it doesn't matter. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I don't mind her beating me, Jason, I just wish it wasn't by 6 strokes. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I'd like to at least say I'm competitive with her, you know. At least she only beat her husband by 1. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Leyva was cheating. He was throwing with the wrong hand and making putts. NO ONE said it was ok to use the street as a launching pad. NO ONE said it was ok to park #5 with a roc. CHEATER. Makes me sick.....

Jan 27 2003, 05:58 PM
I heard about the Roc shot on #5. I hate him.

ozdisc
Jan 27 2003, 06:00 PM
He was throwing Rocs and not putters for his drives. That's what I call cheating. Hole 5 was crazy. The battle of the Kreke / Harrell twins was a dead heat this time...until they meet again.

I wanted to use my Gator, but I decided to give my arm a rest since I wasn't really warmed up yet. I had a great time playing with you guys, I hope we can do it one more time before the move.

Jan 27 2003, 11:10 PM
Great playing with Craig, Paul, and Thunder. Craig threw like Craig. It is amazing what kind of power that guy posesses. Himing was hanging tough but 16 was his demise. I don't think Paul missed anything inside of ten feet (Not Typical). Then Paul nails a 50 footer to tie me on the last hole (Typical). Thanks Mark for puting this thing on. You really are doing a great job and everyone appreciates it.
CWare you better be able to throw that Z-Ex in a straight line. We may rename Cameron East to Cameron Beast before it's all said and done.

Mar 11 2003, 11:13 AM
In the interest of promoting PDGA sanctioned events, I'd first like to say that I'll understand if we get a low turnout for our trip to Bear country. There are two good reasons for this.

If you're a Pro, the place to be that weekend is obviously the Pro World Doubles Championships at the equally World Class Circle R2 Disc Golf Ranch in San Saba. These courses are so incredible that I might come out on Saturday, 3/22, just to watch.

If you're an Am, the smart money that weekend is at one of Texas's legendary World's courses, Pleasure Island, in Port Arthur. The Pleasure Island Amateur Championships, a PDGA B-tier, will be boasting one of the largest Am payouts in Texas disc golf history.

If, however, you're not fortunate enough to be at either of the above locations, fear not. HCF has something sweet for you. Sunday, March 23, the HCF 4th Sunday Monthly Mini in Waco will have a slight change of venue. It will be your first chance to play a competitive round on the brand new Cameron East course. If you're a Pro who's not going to WD, this will be your chance to tuneup for the Waco Charity Open Pro weekend, (one of Texas' most popular A-tiers and a chance to qualify for the USDGC) which will take place 6 days later.

For those of you who haven't seen this new course, you're in for a real treat. The whole course, especially the back nine, is destined to be an instant classic and will immediately be one of the best disc golf courses in the country. Joey Harrel, Waco's resident evil genius, has created something truly special on the "other" side of the river.

Everything else will remain the same, as far as the HCF Mini is concerned. Ams $5, Pros $8, Ace Pot $2. Our Ace Pot, for those of you who don't know, pays out 100% if an ace is hit and pays 1/2 to one CTP thrower if no aces go down. This half travels with us each month between Lago Vista (1st Sundays) and Waco (4th Sundays).

As an added bonus, just like we offer each month at Lago, there's a $50 HCF Mini course record bounty. Since this is the 1st HCF Mini at this course, we can count on that $50 going to the top scorer that day!

The new website will be up this week and it will have a page dedicated to the HCF Monthlies. Check it first for any questions (www.hillcountryflyers.com) or email me at mark@zeecon.com.

Mar 11 2003, 08:57 PM
mark....thanks for bringing the HCF minis to Waco. your a good man...even though you got long hair/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif,see you soon.

Mar 11 2003, 10:03 PM
And you're alright in my book too, Nody. Even though you ain't got no hair. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Will you be the man that walks away with my $50 March 23rd? Remember, your course record only counts when you do it in competition. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I hope I get a chance to play the course real soon. I'm pretty sure we'll have too many folks this month for me to get to play in the mini and it may be a couple of weeks before I can throw again, but my first round of golf, as soon as I'm able, has just got to be on The Beast!

ozdisc
Mar 11 2003, 10:16 PM
Nody said, "Lance Dolezel and I both shot a 58 today, which is the current course record". Good to see you guys teaming up to play doubles and set the doubles record/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif I am sure Joey and I could find a few dollars floating around to take you boys on next week.

Mar 12 2003, 08:51 AM
I wonder, with as many throws as will be required on this course, if folks will still be in the mood to invade a local restaurant and then go throw a round of random dubs, like what the group always seems to do in Lago?

I mean, I'll be happy to scope out a place for us to descend upon for some post-mini grub (that's tucker to you Chris), but I don't know if everyone's gonna be sticking around for the unofficial part of the mini as much at The Beast! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Cool the tucker is on Mark/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif The Brazos Steakhouse up the road is the spot to be. As far as I know they are helping to sponsor the Waco Charity Cup so let's go in and get them excited.

Some people may need many throws on this course. I am just sorry Seeware won't be there to wack down a few trees and open things up a little on his drives.

The course may take a leaf out of another famous course and have 3 well named holes. The Beauty, the beast and the b....

Mar 12 2003, 07:03 PM
how does the new cameron east course compare to the one at tx10 last year?

Mar 12 2003, 11:00 PM
Grambo, I think someone shot a -6 or -7 to win Texas 10. On this course a 6 or 7 would be good. The course measures out at over 7000 feet. The front nine plays around the area we had the TX10 course set up in and the back nine goes into the deeeeeeep woods. Par will be 66. I hope it will prove to be one of the toughest and most fun courses to play around. Also, one of the prettiest. But, I am predjudiced. Come on up and check it out.

Mar 13 2003, 12:53 AM

Mark, I hope you are resting up for this weekend. Congrats on the Red Rock Show. Heard nothing but praise. I am taking off work Thurs and Fri to work on the course. It should look better than ever by the mini. This is a good opportunity to practice up for the upcoming tournaments. So who is planning on coming?

One thing I would like to encourage everyone to do is to patronize Lake Brazos Steakhouse. They are supporters of discgolf and of the W.A.C.O.. They are a cash sponsor of this year's tourney and we need to show them that there investment has paid off. They do have great food and very good prices. COLD BEER on tap as well. If you do stop by, please tell them you are a discgolfer and thank them for their support. (One cool thing is you can sit by the windows on the back deck and watch #11's fairway across the river.)

Looking forward seeing everyone that can make it. And a big thanks to Mr. Mark Atwood for all his suffering.

Mar 17 2003, 07:05 PM
Joey did I live somethings in the back of your truck? I will try to be out on Friday but if not I will be there at daybreak on Sunday to help on the course before the mini.

Joey, I'm still having nightmares about the back 9! /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif I know that I need to shoot alot better in order to start sleeping like a baby again.

Mar 18 2003, 03:09 PM
Thanks Joey, I'll be plenty rested up by Sunday. I wish I felt good enough to throw, though. I can't wait until I can actually play The Beast. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Just to remind you guys that aren't up to speed on the HCF Monthly Mini gig, here are the details.

Ams $5, Pros $8, Ace Pot $2. Aces get 100% (or split in the case of multiple aces) and a CTP throwoff pays half to the winner if there are no aces hit. In the event that only half the pot gets paid out, the other half travels with us each month between our 1st Sunday Monthlies at Lago Vista and our 4th Sunday Monthlies in Waco. Thanks to Zach "Eagle Eye" Williamson, the pot is empty at present, but with the numbers we're expecting Sunday, it'll still be a nice little bonus.

Speaking of nice little bonuses, someone's gonna walk away with an extra $50 in their pocket. Our HCF Mini Course Record Bounty needs a benchmark, so the top scorer Sunday will set a precedent and be well paid for their efforts.

We'll start taking signups at 9 a.m. and we'll shut them down at 10 a.m.. We'll tee off at 10:30. Don't be late.

As always, its one round of singles. We always offer as many divisions as we can muster, typically with an Open Pro, Pro Masters, Advanced, Advanced Masters, Intermediate and Rec. We get enough ladies to field a division about 75% of the time too, so you gals don't hesitate to come on out.

I'm not sure yet exactly where we'll be set up, but maybe Joey can shed some light on where he'd like us to be.

After the round, we'll all head over and invade Lake Brazos Steakhouse for lunch and a couple of CFOs. In Lago every month, most of the players head back out to the course for random draw dubs after lunch. Although we don't run it, I'd like to see this start happening in Waco each month, since it makes for such a nice full day of fun and golf.

Look forward to seeing all of you there and seeing The Beast get put through its paces for the first time. God that course is gonna rock and it should be fun to watch.

BTW, there won't be a waiting list and we'll run as many ghost cards as y'all need! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Mar 18 2003, 07:29 PM
Looking forward to playing in my first HCF mini. Joey I thought you were going to lock George's disc in the truck. You see what happens when you don't(LMAO). George thanks for the disc but I didn't keep me from stinking up the course at the Temple mini. Still hopeful I can at least do a drive-by on Friday or Saturday.

I'll post all the other scores in a bit, but here's a little taste of the details.

Seth Lawhead wins Open for $43 out of a field of 13 with a 56 and takes the $50 Course Record Bounty as well. That's pretty darn good shooting on that course.

32 folks showed up to test out the new Cameron East course under competition conditions for the first time. Since this is undeniably going to be one of our great state's best courses, all of them should feel like they were a part of something special today. We were expecting a few more folks, but I'm equally glad that players seemed to have gotten out to support the two sanctioned events this weekend too.

The Ace Pot is back on the mend, after being emptied at Lago on the 1st. $32 Went in the pocket of our CTP winner and $32 will travel with us to Lago for April 6th.

Lake Brazos Steakhouse played host to a good number of us, before a bunch of the folks from the morning went back for some random draw dubs.

The Big Announcement came down as promised. Look for another thread on that in just a bit. Let's just say to keep your calendars clear, if you're not planning on making the trip to KC for Am Worlds on July 26-27. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

The Waco folk have dones an awesome job on the Cameron East course. Stay out of the shule and out of the road and out of the river and out of the pond, you will do really well. Sure.

Had a great time and am looking forward to the WACO this year.

Mark, one suggestion I have would be to bring out some DX plastic for payout, especially if you are going to pay that deep into the advanced division.

Mar 24 2003, 01:43 PM

Actually, you're right. I meant to bring a bin of DX and just loaded up without them for some, as of now, unknown reason. Recommendation duly noted, thanks.

Greetings All,

I'd like to wish all my friends good luck this weekend as many players from all over the state will take part in what is always the busiest DG weekend of the year. PYMWYMI, Paul Giles Memorial and Hill Country Detour always make the last weekend of April the busiest and one of the best weekends for Texas golfers of the season.

This year, and I hope for years to come, there will be another option added for anyone not attending one of those fine events. As always, HCF will be hosting the 4th Sunday Monthly Mini in Waco this coming Sunday, April 27th.

This month, we'll be back at Cameron, as the front 9 holes at Cameron East have been pulled for the next two weekend's worth of festivities (River Drag Boat Races and Cinco De Mayo). Its a great time to practice up in Waco with the Waco Charity Open Am weekend right around the corner.

All the best new cool plastic will be available for you, including some special top of the line goodies we got today. Z-Challengers (man, are these freakin' sweet), highly collectible and totally clear Q-LS's and some of those super cool black Elite X Wasps everyone's been raving about, will all be in the bins along with all the other great plastic our minis have become known for providing.

As always, the minis are divisional singles. We'll start taking signups at 9 a.m. and cut them off around 10 a.m.. After the round, its over to the Lake Brazos Steakhouse and then, if folks want to, someone is almost always running draw dubs after lunch.

Also, don't forget that as always I'll have entry forms for our upcoming PDGA events with me if anyone would like to insure their spot in the field. The Live Oak Summer Open field is beginning to grow, with entries coming in the mail and off of Titledisc.com. Please remember that we've been full with a waiting list for every sanctioned event so far this year and this one should be no different.

Hope everyone can make it out and play one of Texas golfers favorite parks. See you Sunday. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Well, I'm beat, tired and disgusted with my skills, or lack thereof, but I'll be at Cameron Park in the morning, all smiles. Getting ready to pack up the Exploder and hit the sack early.

All you folk's that didn't get enough golf at Laddie's today and any of you that aren't at one of the other two big DG events in the state this weekend, we want to see you.

Remember that just because the soon to be legendary new Cameron East course has been built across the river, that doesn't change the fact the the original course at Cameron Park always has been and always will be one of the most fun courses in the Lone Star State.

Signup: 9-10 Tee-off: 10:30, Ams $5, Pros $8, Ace Pot $2 (already $81 in it), 1/2 with CTP throwoff if no Aces are hit.

If you need to get a hold of me in the morning call my cell at 830-385-9682. See y'all there! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

May 14 2003, 10:15 AM
Back to the Beast! Just letting you folks know that since the baskets at Cameron East are all back in (they were pulled during last month's mini), that we'll be back at the most demanding and unique course in Texas for the next couple of HCF 4th Sunday Waco Monthlies.

The date this month is May 25th (come out and wish me a happy b-day) and signups close at 10:00 a.m.. This is the day after the big Live Oak ZT10, but if you can make it to Lago the day after Houston (and many of you did), then you can surely make Waco after Live Oak.

Besides, I'm sure after Pro and Am WCO weekends, you guys just can't get enough of the BEAST! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

The HCF $50 Course Record Bounty will again be on the line and is open to all players in all divisions (unless they're in a division that plays from the one short tee on #6). The current HCF Cameron East record is 56 and is held by Seth Lawhead. It was done under virtually perfect conditions (I believe the official course tournament record is 52 by Ron Russell, shot during WCO Pro weekend, but I could be mistaken).

Didn't one of the masters players shoot a 51 during pro weekend?

May 14 2003, 02:11 PM
As a matter of fact, now that you mention it, I do remember hearing that a Master shot below Ron's 52, but I don't remember exactly who or what the score was.

May 14 2003, 04:48 PM
The master was Carl Rogers from OK. He shot a 52 and said it was one of the best rounds he had ever played.

May 15 2003, 11:21 AM
Well I would imagine so! If I shot a 62 over there it would be one of my best rounds ever. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

May 24 2003, 11:45 PM
Evening Folks. Old Cameron in the morning. There's a car show on several of the holes of the bEast, so unfortunately no Cam East again.

Signups start at 9 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. with tee off as close to 10:30 as possible.

Ams $5, Pros $8, Ace Pot $2. The Ace Pot is currently sitting at $62.

See y'all in the a.m.. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Jul 09 2003, 09:26 AM
Want to again thank Mike and Joey for running the June Waco mini. Without there generous help, I'd have been pretty hard pressed to make it happen, not to mention that I wouldn't have gotten to play at one Texas' finest courses, Mackenzie Park.

As most of you have probably figured out by now, there won't be an HCF 4th Sunday Mini for July. I've made this announcement at each players meeting in Waco since LOSO was scheduled. I just wanted to remind everyone.

And now...

Jul 09 2003, 09:28 AM
...from the Lago thread:

Here's some scoop for y'all:

Hill Country Flyers Monthly Minis will be trading places for one month. In August, we'll flip flop the Waco and Lago minis to coincide with the ZiegenBock Texas 10 Charity Tour events in those places.

There are a couple of reasons for this, with the foremost being that out of town players who would like to get to play an HCF mini as well as a ZT10 will now be able to do so. And, not completely unselfishly, I won't have to do as much driving. I'm present for every ZT10, whether as a player or as staff, so this makes a lot of sense for me personally as well.

The 1st of 2 Waco ZT10's this year is Aug. 2nd. Rather than everyone driving home that night to play at Lago on Sunday, you'll be able to stay over and get in another round on one of the courses that has become an instant classic in our sport, Cameron East. All standard HCF Mini details, such as start time, entry fees and ace pot are as usual.

The ZT10 stop that I'm most looking forward to this year is Aug. 23rd in Lago Vista, BABY! With the Casa Lago Resort now open and many players wanting to make a weekend of it, we'll be staying over for a special 4th Sunday HCF Lago Mini.

Please spread the word of this change as well as you can. I look forward to a fun month for ZT10, HCF and Tejas golfers in August.

Aug 03 2003, 06:50 PM
Well, we had 9 souls who didn't get enough abuse from The Beast yesterday.

5 Pros
Alex Hughes won with a 61 followed by Mark Smith with a 62. Also playing on our Pro card were Jerry Crumpton, George Morales and Dave Durham.

4 Ams (unless you count the line they put on their card for me - an 11 on #9 was too close to reality to be funny, but at least they wrote me down for 2 on #16 /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif )
Mark Bowman won with a 63, followed by Tony Bender with a 67. Kit Brown and Ginger Bowman (who took the box from the boys on #12 - very nice) also played.

I know this wasn't the normal day for the Waco monthly, but regardless I'm concerned about the low turnouts. The 9 folks we had today is pretty typical of our Waco turnouts over the last few months. Our first time at Cameron East (our second Waco mini), a week before WCO Pro weekend when The Beast was still pretty new, was our high number and since then we're lucky to get a dozen.

No one is more surprised by this than me, I assure you. With the Olde Cameron course being a longtime fave of players all over and The Beast being, in my opinion, now one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in the state (and beyond), the fact that folks don't want to take a shot at these courses once a month is shocking.

I gotta tell you that with this mini not drawing many participants and requiring a minimum of 3 1/2 hours of drive time for me each time out, these numbers are gonna make it tough for me to continue to do them. I'd like to keep these going, but I'm not sure if its going to be possible. If you'd like to see these Waco monthlies continue or if you'd just like to shoot a fun and laid back, yet competitive round at one of the finest courses we have to play in Texas, be sure to try to make it out to the regularly scheduled 4th Sunday HCF Waco Monthly, September 28th. This will be the day after the 2nd Waco ZT10 event.

Hope to see you all there.

Aug 04 2003, 12:13 AM
hole #17 at East is now known as the hornet's nest. they chased me for at least 100yds of my 200yd dash. down 17's fairway around the corner and 1/4 of the way down 18's fairway. mean little boogers. did i mention they are not happy campers when you're standing on their nest?

Where were are the LOCALS For the SUNDAY HCF Mini???

Aug 04 2003, 11:15 AM
Sorry, I couldn't make it Sunday. I needed to do something enjoyable after Saturday. So, I went fishing all day.

Mark, you are running into the same problem that I faced for years. That is one reason I quit running the mini. The other is I didn't want to be committed every weekend. I think you may see an improvement when Baylor starts back up, because they have now started a discgolf club and have quite a few people interested in playing events. There are just too many local minis within a short drive of most people. I am all in support of you and wish you had bigger turnouts.

Aug 04 2003, 11:40 AM
I certainly wasn't blaming you Joey. You've done so much for local disc golf in the Waco area that you are beyond reproach, imo. On top of that, your work in getting the Cam East course permanently installed has added to the quality of disc golf for our entire state. Your support of our minis was never in question and thanks for all you do.

Besides, I knew you were going fishing and I understood why after we talked about your 1st round. Maybe I should've gone fishing too. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif

BTW, you and others did warn me prior to deciding on these minis about an historically low turnout, but I was too stubborn to be scared of it. Once I set my mind on something, it really has to take a bite out of me to make me give up on it. I'm starting to feel the nibbles from 4th Sundays.

Aug 04 2003, 01:01 PM
So how did your fishing go Joey? I think I'm going back to the cabin this weekend for some more speckled trout!!!

anybody know if there are any plans for concrete pads at Cam. East someday? by the way, there's a sweet 1st run T-bird on hole 8. I started down the fairway, hit a tree, and went straight towards the river, inches right of the bleachers, about 20 feet out in the reeds. Probably between 25 to 50 feet right of the broken down dock. Any local swamp ratts want it, its yers, no hard feelings. OR! If you get it back to me, NAME YER PRICE! ...Mmmmmmm, larva......

I think I heard at one time that concrete pads were part of the long term plan for The Beast, but Joey would know what that means more than any vicious rumors from me. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Not all of us like the feel of dirt and grass (and poison ivy, sumac, thorns, greenbriar and rocks) under out feet, oh sandal footed one. I love concrete pads when they're the right size, otherwise they're worse than anything else you could use for a tee pad, imnsho.

Concrete pads are in my plans. Hopefully the city will support it. As for the wasps, they are cicada killer wasps. The do live in the ground. Feed mainly on cicadas(locusts). There are a few hundred living in the ground on the olde course on 18's fairway. These wasps are probably not the ones that attacked Geo. They are not very aggressive.

Sandalman, have you tried them dipped in chocolate?

they were yellowjackets, and I took out at least 5-6 of them in the mele and during my flight to freedom. HOLE 17 @ East. where the BIG cottonwood is on the right, at the top of the first hill amongst all the debris.
