DG For Kids' Sake

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 16:37

This Saturday October 29th the International Disc Golf Center plays host to the 1st annual "Disc Golf For Kids' Sake Halloween Bash", which benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia.  Brent Walton of Salt Lake City, Utah has run this event  for four years and is branching the "series" out to new venues.  Brent has combined his love for the sport of disc golf, with his favorite charity Big Brothers Big Sisters, and created a fun family friendly event for the community.

In an effort to entice families and the local community to support the event Brent has created a free festival surrounding the disc golf tournament.  Local vendors have really stepped up donating a bounce house, breakfast and lunch, a DJ, face painters, and multiple local mascots!  The Augusta State University cheerleaders will also be present volunteering their time with the local children.

Registration for the tournament will begin at 8am, tee off at 10am, entry fee is $35 for any division all proceeds go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia.  Tournament participants will be playing the new Steady Ed Headrick short course in the morning, and the challenging Jim Warner Memorial course in the afternoon.  Festival events for the community will run all day long, with an informal gathering at Stillwater Taproom on Saturday evening.

Disc Golf For Kids' Sake has raised in excess of $20,000 over the last four years for Big Brothers Big Sisters charities.  Local businesses have donated thousands of dollars in restaurant gift certificates, skydive excursions, hotel stays, electronics, as well as many disc golf prizes!  A light breakfast and box lunch is also being provided for all tournament participants.  So come on out this weekend and support the first DGFKS event at the IDGC, or donate to your local Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Brent is also looking for other locales to run this event in the future, see below for details.

From Brent Walton:

"Disc Golf for Kids’ Sake was founded in 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is developing into a series of disc golf fund-raising tournaments that benefits local chapters of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The tournaments are open to all skill levels and are centered around having a great time while raising funding for local chapters of the nation’s oldest youth mentoring organization. It is also a goal to raise awareness of and participation in the sport of disc golf.

Disc Golf for Kids’ Sake tournaments seek to include local and national companies in supporting an event that includes music, food, family entertainment, great disc golf, and prizes for participants. It is the intention of the founders to pair local disc golf associations around the country with their local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters to establish a nationwide network of Disc Golf for Kids’ Sake fund-raising events.

Please feel free to contact Brent Walton, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah volunteer, if you would like to donate to, volunteer at, participate in, or are interested in starting your own Disc Golf for Kids’ Sake."
