Cuts Made at 2015 Am Worlds - Only Semis and Finals Remain!

Saturday, July 25, 2015 - 01:08

Four days of grueling competition later, the 2015 PDGA Amateur & Junior Disc Golf World Championships must part ways with hundreds of competitors, as the field has now been cut from 750+ to roughly 225 for the semifinals and finals tomorrow morning and afternoon. But it’s not exactly that simple, so let’s break it down.

Amateur World Champion Crowned

While some were fighting to make the cut today in Kalamazoo, there were a few that were already playing their final round. The Advanced Senior Grandmaster Women had one last round of 18 holes at Vicksburg this morning playing from the short tees as the division itself had only three competitors overall.

Lynda Voss #55485, Lynn Nelson #61776, and Rebecca Gilbert #27947 had the pleasure of playing all six of their rounds together this year and although they didn’t have many others to compete with, they finished their fourth and final day of disc golf with smiles and celebratory cheers. Voss emerged as the winner to grab her second straight Am Worlds title with a convincing victory, finishing the tournament ahead by 26 throws over Nelson.

Lynda Voss #55485 taps in on Hole 17 at Vicksburg to win her second straight Am Worlds title in the Advanced Senior Grandmasters division!

Finals, No Semis

The 2015 Am Worlds contains 17 different divisions, varying from Junior Boys and Junior Girls 10 & Under all the way to Advanced Senior Legends (70 & older). As one might expect, many of these divisions were quite small as far as number of competitors and one cut was all that was needed to produce an elite group of players for a final round. Listed below are the seven divisions that fall into this category as well as the names of players in the finals, their respective tee times, and more.

*All final rounds listed below will be played at Timber Ridge Ski Area using a custom nine-hole layout. Tee times are listed in Eastern Daylight Time.

Semis + Finals

With one division having already crowned an Amateur World Champion and seven other divisions going straight to finals, basic math dictates that there must be nine divisions that are playing both a semifinal and final round.  These divisions were cut down significantly, but there are still 200 or so competitors between the nine divisions that are fighting one last time to either increase their overall rank or to make a run at a spot on the lead card to make the finals.

In this category, only the top four players from each division will be sent to the finals at Timber Ridge to play a longer and more difficult custom layout in front of the gallery that awaits. All ties that result in more than four players total per division (e.g. a 2-way tie for 4th, a 3-way tie for 3rd, etc.) will be broken by sudden death playoffs before leaving their designated semifinal round courses.

*All semifinal rounds listed below start at 9:00am Eastern Daylight Time. Tee times listed for finals are tentative.
