Pageant Hill

This course is an outstanding course in that it takes advantage of the natural landscape of the Black Hills. It is unique to the area. If you have never played a course in wooded setting that is not part of a standard city park you will find this course to be quite challenging. The need to climb hills and scramble over some rocks makes this a tough course to walk if not to play. This is city owned property but is not groomed or maintained so it is quite literally a walk in the woods but no walk in the park. This is a mountain setting on a north facing slope so be prepared for some cool temps even in the heart of summer The advantage is that the winds are rarely high and this is unique to SD. The tee pads are concrete and pretty large. At the shortest basket placements the course plays short for advanced players but is still quite fun and birdies are still difficult to come by. At the longest placements it is very challenging for beginners and several baskets can not be seen from the tee. A map is almost required to find some of the tees and baskets. There are not a lot of risk reward opportunities but the need to be very accurate is important on every hole. Except for a few notable exceptions the holes mostly play straight away without requiring shaped or unusual throws. Not many opportunities to really throw for distance. Holes 4, 7, 13, 14, 15, and 16 all benefit from spotters off the tee. Plan to play brightly colored discs or spend an afternoon searching for them. I personally like this links style course so I found it very rewarding to play here. This is a great compliment to some other very nice courses in the area. Definitely worth the trip to play here. Improvements are still be added so this course is likely to continue to get better
