!!!WARNING!!! Please read this post before playing at Globeville Landing!!!!
My friend and I decided to give this course a try today because it is very close to where he works and we thought we could squeeze a game in during his lunch break. Although I would have preferred baskets to the poles with their 4 hanging chains, the course used the trees, hills, and water very well and the shots were interesting.
However.... the real reason I am posting this review is to serve as a WARNING to anyone who plays, or plans on playing this course. There is a railroad that borders the park and some of the holes. One of my throws went a little high, hooked to the left, and drifted over the chain link fence and onto the rocks next to a train that was parked, engine off, on the tracks. Thinking nothing of it I walked through a 20 yard gap in the fence and over a very serious invisible line to recover my disc. Less than a hole or two after that, we looked to our left to see two police cars actually driving through the park, over and around hills, trees, and grass. Yes, to our disbelief they were heading right towards us. We waved as they pulled right up to us, parked, got out of their vehicles and approached us.
It turns out that I had committed an illegal act of trespassing when I went to recover my disc that was on the rocks next to the train tracks. I was completely unaware that I had committed a crime by retrieving my disc. They spoke to us for a little while, and I was giving a verbal warning. My intentions were in no way criminal, and I was shocked to find out how easily I had ended up needing to explain my presence on railroad property.
The officers were very friendly and chatted with us about the presidential debates from the night before while they wrote down the information on our driver's licenses. We all shook hands and my friend and I moved on to play one more hole before he had to return to work.
I am writing this review to WARN anyone who plays this course to treat the railroad as a body of water containing crocodiles, water moccasins, piranhas, and electric eels. DO NOT try to get your disc if you accidentally lose it over the fence at the railroad. The police responded to my disc retrieval in a matter of a minute or two. I don't want to find out whether or not they will be so nice about it if it happens again, so from now on I will consider discs that land there gone forever. I'm intentionally throwing away from that fence from now on.
Hope this helps to keep any fellow disc golfers out of trouble when playing this course at Globeville Landing!
Thanks everyone :)
I can't even give this course a 1. It sucked. Too many bums/drunks. The city should just save its money spent on even mowing this place. Could be a nice little course if it was fixed up.
This course could be ok if it tried. My buddy and I went there recently. They don't use baskets it's just poles with chains, so trying to figure out the course direction is impossible. Half way to the first tee box we spotted a cleverly placed sleeping bag in a tree, which so happened to be above a bum's house..which was under the tree. After passing the hobo house it quickly smelled the old stinky piss river running through the park, everybody loves that smell on the course so naturally we were stoked. Soon after that an army of little f***ing mosquitos showed up to chew our legs off. SO we bailed. This course is trying but not pulling it off, basically it sucks.
Pros: This is a decent 9 hole course using the park that is in pretty good shape. It is located right off of the highway and most of the holes are pretty short and offer a good variety of shots.
Cons: The holes are tube tone, not actual baskets. The tee boxes consists of spray paint in the grass and a small orange marker, the next tee for every hole is hard to find. Also it is hard to know where you are throwing to due to lack of signs.
Other Thoughts: I went with someone the 1st time I played this course, and I needed them to help guide me to the next hole, for every hole. I would play again if in the area or if I was short on time.
