Solid course, easy to moderate difficulty. Could use better signage leading from basket to next tee. And one hole crossing a creek needs a bridge built across or else just move this hole somewhere else. When muddy, one has to walk way around the park to get across or else slide down the mud into the creek at the bottom.
2 concrete pads per hole Standard & Advanced. Plays along creek that comes into play on several holes. 'Standard'
tee pads play shorter and easier than the 'Advanced' tee pads.
Transition from 12 to 13 is not well marked.
Nice course for my sons and myself. All baskets are there
Just finishing up the parking lot.lots of people coming out
And playing this sport. We have 2 other parks nearby and wished
They'd make courses there..it's in the euless area..
Good course. dual tee boxes are nice. but posion ivy everywhere for those of you who have reactions to it and have a habit of throwing into the woods. stag water too. Fun as hell though...i've heard there's cops but i've never seen any
One basket was stolen...hole #12 I believe (the best hole on the course :( )
Other than that, the course is just as playable as ever.
Good challenging course. I haven't played this course in awhile, but I will have to say that police stroll that park on the regular and I had all my discs stolen while trying to help someone retrieve their disc from the creek. So that person's actions have caused me not to throw this course in over 2 years. Thanks prick!!!! I'm sure there's a special place in hell for you and your actions!!! If you throw this course, keep your discs close to you!!
This is one of the best courses in the DFW area. My wife even loved it. It has almost every challange and is very fun. It does have poison ivy every where. Hole 12 is a blast
I consider this park my "home course" as I've been playing it since 1999. Great course to bring beginner players and it stays challenging to those who have been playing a while. I've personally never had a run-in with any cops and my skin doesn't seem to care about poison ivy at all so I can't really comment on that.
Pros: Good variety of shots and other players are friendly. Easy to navigate course. Well maintained and great opportunities to find lost discs if you don't mind getting wet.
Cons: Gets crowded at peak play times.
This is my favorite course to play. Its well shaded in the summer and I like playing it in the rain/snow as its pretty empty then and the course doesn't get over soggy.
*Doug, did that meeting ever get scheduled or the issues resolved?*
Please note that the disc golf baskets have not been removed from Bear Creek Park. However, there has been issues/conflicts at the park and the Grapevine Parks Board is looking into these. We plan to have a meeting at the course within the next three weeks with course users to discuss issues and talk about maintenance of the course. Can you help me pass the word on this meeting if I get a date and time to you? Thanks Doug Evans, Director of Parks and Recreation
This course has many flaws but it is still one of my favorites.
Pros: Easy and fun to play. Dual concrete tees. Better suited for amateurs (like me). Good use of Bear Creek as an obstacle on many holes. Many a disc finds the bottom of the creek or the "gator hole" pond which is a well-located hazard on 2 of the holes. Well shielded from the wind on all but the windiest of days. The signature hole is 12 which goes over a large ravine with a shallow feeder creek at the bottom. The trees on this hole on the other side of the ravine punish errant shots by knocking your disc back into the ravine. Decent shade on most holes and most holes have several logs to sit on at the tees.
Cons: POISON IVY EVERYWHERE!!!!! Your punishment for throwing off into the woods may be greater than you think. I hear cops have a small-town mentality and harass those who partake in drinking beer and the like...but I have played this course over a 100 times and have never had an issue. Takes a long time to dry out after a rain and mosquitoes can be bad on several holes. Hole 6 has this nasty cesspool which used to be part of a feeder creek but is nothing but stagnant water most of the time. Very crowded on weekends and nice afternoons.
Bear Creek is a great course, my favorite in fact. It has absolutely everything you need, hyzers, anhyzers, rollers, thumbers, tomahawks, long open drives, tight wooded drives, ravines. I don't give it a 5 because there must be a better course out there somewhere that i haven't played.
Oh, and i played just yesterday, and the baskets were definitely there. I've heard rumors about someone in city council wanting to shut the place down, which would be very tragic. But i noticed this last time out, they even cleaned up the course to remove some Poison Ivy and rough brush entanglements.
I have not confirmed the rumor. But, I heard the baskets were pulled.
