Beautiful course - right on the Hillsborough River with many old-growth oaks. Challenging - but not too difficult. Fun for all, but big throwers are rewarded - most holes are over 300' (#1 is over 700'!). Dual tees to 9 baskets make 18.

Directions:
I-275 to Sligh Ave. Go east to a left on 22nd St., then 0.5 mile to the park. Park in parking lot near baseball field. Walk out to open field and head north to the 1st tee just beyond the last concrete power pole. #1 is a 700' drive down toward the river.
Thank you so much Tampa parks and rec. What a nice surprise this course is. Located at the 22nd Street Park, King Oaks Canopy DGC is such a beautiful course. Hidden away in the middle of Tampa, this course is in the heart of an amazing stand of very old live oak trees. Some of these trees must be 300+ years old. The course meanders through all of these giant oak trees in a very creative way. The Hillsborough River is also another beautiful addition to the course atmosphere. I felt like this course was very challenging, but also very fair. Good shots will be rewarded, and bad shots will be punished. There are some water hazards with the Hillsborough River, but for the most part, it's hard to lose a disc here. Many long holes, with a handful of fairways that are over 400+ feet, one that is over 500+ feet, and an opening shoot of over 700 feet.
It would be nice if there were concrete tee pads and better signage for directions.
I really enjoyed playing this course. There is so much shade and so many beautiful trees. It's so nice to finally have a course to play in Tampa, and this is a really nice one. The course has a really nice mix of difficult shots and some nice wide open shots where you can really throw as hard as you like. The very first hole is a wide-open 700+ drive down into the beautiful trees.
It would be great if they put in concrete tee pads.
I consider myself a pretty avid disc golfer, having played courses all over the country, and this is one of the more enjoyable courses I have come across. It's varied, long, challenging and GORGEOUS. The live oaks really add something special to this course.
One of the most challenging drives is midway through the course where you have to "thread the needle" through two nearly symmetrical low-swooping branches. Very cool.
This is a great addition to the area (first course in Tampa! Wha?!) and should receive a warm welcome by the PDGA. The only downside: no tee platforms. But hopefully since it's new, they are planning to add them soon (come on Tampa!).
If there were a tournament here, I'd be the first to sign up.
This is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a very urban atmosphere. I have lived in Tampa for over six years, and I had no idea that this park was here, until I heard that a disc golf course was going in. I went and played with a friend recently, who was born and raised in Tampa, and even he had no idea the park existed. I actually went and helped put the course in, when they had the volunteer day, a little over a month ago. I'm far from being a professional disc golfer, but I have been playing disc golf for over 15 years, and I really love the game. This is my first review, so I'm not exactly sure what to say.
Pros: I have played all the disc golf courses in the Tampa Bay area and Sarasota. Although this is a fairly small park, I feel it is one of the prettiest courses in the area, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the diversity of this course. Being just an average skilled disc golfer, I really like the fact that this course is not overly technical. There are many wide-open long throws, but also many moderately technical throws, with a lot of low hanging limbs from the giant oak trees. I feel like it's a well thought out, and well designed course, for what they had to work with. From my understanding, there were a lot of boundaries and limitations that came with this piece of land, as the Tampa park and rec has a lot of other plans for this park. I feel like this course utilizes the land that was given to them, in a very creative and thoughtful way.
Cons: The dirt teepads, and the lack of signage, is for sure a disappointment. There is a whole lot of walking to do on this course. I don't see this as a design flaw, but rather an unfortunate fact of having 18 teepads and only 9 baskets. I really don't see how there is enough room for 18 baskets, but that would be really nice, if they could open the park up to allow that.
This course sounded like it would be a lot of fun. However after playing it I was very disappointed with it. There was a lot more space that could have been utilized to make this course worth it. The lack of signs and few baskets makes for a lot of needless walking. It appeared that there were doubles of holes as well. I swear that two hole 6's. The second one was on the other side of the course. Still not a bad course to play.
Nice walk through a scenic area. Could be a 3 star with better tees and signs. The issue of having 9 baskets on an 18 hole course also limits the score.
