Collegiate Champion

Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 22:59

Chris Becker of the University of Oregon shot a lights out even par round of 54 on the Hippo Course to capture the title of 2010 National Collegiate Disc Golf Champion.

Even par may not sound like lights out golf to many but extremely heavy wind with gusts in excess of 35 mph punished the competitors today and the scores reflected the conditions. Becker played good consistent golf and kept mistakes to a minimum to make up a six throw deficit to Jason Lynn of Augusta State University, who shot a 60. The top 8 players in the individual standings will be named to the Collegiate Disc Golf All-America team.

The individual competition may be over but the team competition will be decided with one final round of alternating shot doubles on Sunday morning. Augusta State University, with three golfers in the top 7 in the individual standings, sits at -29 and holds a 13 throw lead over Oregon and Western Illinois University. While 13 throws may seem insurmountable, another day of heavy winds could erase that lead pretty quickly.

Stay tuned to PDGA.com for final results of the team competition.
