Catrina Allen #44184 rocked the disc golf world this afternoon during Round 2 of the 2015 European Open when she shot a 1036 rated five under par (59) on The Beast course in Finland today. Only nine men bettered Catrina’s score today and of the 288 total rounds played by all the men and women thus far, only 19 total have bested it. Her smoking hot round ranks as the highest rated round ever shot by an Open Women’s division player on a course with a Scoring Scratch Average (SSA) higher than 54! The Beast’s SSA …64!

Catrina started the day in 3rd place, sitting two strokes back from the then leader, Sarah Hokom #34563, and would leap to the overall Open Women’s leader by a whopping nine strokes. She carded six birdies and only one bogey, with the icing on the cake coming on Hole 18 – a 211 meter (700 feet) monster that many players are deeming the best finishing hole in disc golf. After a perfect drive and approach, she hit a 45 foot putt for a fabulous birdie to end the day. Wow. Just…wow.

Looking beyond Catrina’s nine-throw lead, the battle for the spots below is quite close. Sarah Hokom, Val Jenkins #17495, and Paige Pierce #29190 are all within three strokes or less of each other, fighting for that coveted 2nd place spot, currently held by Hokom. They’ll need to play their absolute best disc golf from here on out if they want to catch Catrina before the final round on Sunday.

In the Open division, Paul McBeth #27523 now holds a four stroke lead with an overall score of -22 against course par after delivering a -10 this afternoon on The Beast. McBeth started slowly with two pars and a bogey on Hole 4 that negated a solid birdie on the 155 meter tunnel Hole 3. But, it’s the seven hole stretch from Hole 5 thru Hole 11 where he has been absolutely on fire, shooting a total of 15 down – including his ace on Hole 9 yesterday - for his two runs through just those 14 total baskets.

KJ Nybo having some fun after hittng the top of the basket with his Star Destroyer on Hole 11.

Today’s sizzling round in the Open division, and overall, came from Denmark’s KJ Nybo #28903 who tied McBeth’s score from Round 1 with a bogey free 12 down (52) to vault into 2nd, four off the pace. KJ – who finished 2nd to McBeth at last year’s European Masters, a PDGA Major held in Stockholm, Sweden –threw only 50 shots total for the day, with the additional strokes from an OB on Holes 8 and 15. Thankfully, KJ was able to save par on both.

Rounding out the lead card tomorrow will be Jeremy Koling #33705 after his blemish-free 10 under par today left him with an overall score of -15, three back from KJ and an additional four back from McBeth. He’ll be joined by Finland’s home country threat, Arttu Sikanen #8573, also sitting at -15 overall. But it doesn’t end there as smooth-throwing Will Schusterick #29064 makes up the last leg of a three-way tie for third place. Schusterick will tee off first on the chase card tomorrow.

The Open Women’s lead card will take to the tee tomorrow morning at 4:10am EDT followed by the Open division lead card at 7:00am EDT. Live scores for every competitor will be up and running once again on the European Open’s Online Leaderboard, with updates, pictures, and videos coming in live via @opendiscgolf and @pdgalive on Twitter.
