Call for Volunteers - Disc Golf Foundation

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 - 12:32

The Disc Golf Foundation (DGF), established in 2004 as a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is dedicated to the promotion and growth of disc golf. The 3 key objectives of the DGF are Education, Advancement of the Sport, and Endowment.

Education

The DGF supports educational programs that promote awareness of the sport of disc golf, providing information and materials to over 700 organizations nationwide including educational facilities, recreation organizations, parks departments, charitable organizations, camps, service organizations, prisons and juvenile centers.

Advancement

The DGF funds qualifying initiatives which advance the growth of disc golf.  The Matching Baskets Program, which funds half the costs for new disc golf courses on college campuses, is one example of an Advancement program. A total of 17 new courses have been installed to date through this program along with the generosity of the basket manufacturers Disc Golf Association (DGA), Innova Champion Discs, and Discraft. Many clubs have also taken advantage of this program by directing donors’ contributions to the DGF to be earmarked for approved programs such as new course installation, course upgrades, and educational programs. Donors receive a tax receipt for their charitable donations.

Endowment

Endowment projects financially support worthy cultural and historical institutions that reflect the evolution and spirit of disc golf. DGA used DGF support to establish the Ed Headrick Memorial Museum in Appling, GA. Thousands of visitors to the IDGC have been delighted to see historical discs, photos and other artifacts from the genesis of the sport housed in this museum. The Disc Golf Hall of Fame in Atlanta is also being supported through donations to the DGF.

Call for Volunteers

The DGF is looking for volunteers to ensure the continued growth of the organization. Specifically, we are looking for suitably qualified persons to serve on the Board of Directors. The time commitment for Board members is a minimum of 4 hours per month which includes one Skype call and pre-work on specified initiatives (for example reviewing grant applications, or screening proposals for DGF funding). Specific Board member positions include President, Director of Communications, Director of Matching Baskets Program, Director of Fiscal Sponsorship, Treasurer and Secretary.  Other Director positions may be created depending on the skill sets and interests of the volunteers.

If you are interested in the DGF but not able to commit for an ongoing period, you may consider volunteering for specific projects (e.g. writing grants, website design, promotion of specific events) or a subcommittee working with one of the Directors. These types of volunteer positions will have a more limited duration and scope compared to the Board positions.
