Sunday, April 18, 2010 - 15:13

Augusta State University maintained the comfortable lead it had going into the final round of the Collegiate Championships and is the 2010 Collegiate Disc Golf National Team Champions.

ASU played good steady golf all day and was never in trouble of giving up shots. The national championship was capped off at the end by a massive drive by Jason Lynn on the 400'+ hole to within 35' of the basket, followed by a successful birdie putt by Patrick May on the very dangerous elevated basket.

The real battle was for second place as the University of Oregon and Western Illinois University, who were tied going into the final round, went back and forth giving up and taking back the advantage all day. In the end it was the University of Oregon who hit a huge birdie putt on hole 17 to go up by two throws with only the dangerous OB laden hole 18 left to play. U of O made a played safe on the hole taking a 3 and sealing second place. The eight players with the top individual singles scores on the week were named first team All-Americans while ninth through sixteenth were named second team All-Americans. Western Illinois University was crowned the National Collegiate doubles champions based upon their team total best in the three doubles rounds during the tournament. The University of Oregon won the first flight championship, which was held on a separate course on the Hippodrome property and comprised of players not competing on the first team in the main event.
