PDGA World Rankings - June 2016

Tuesday, July 5, 2016 - 20:08

Paul McBeth #27523 retains his hold on the top spot in the PDGA World Rankings. RIcky Wysocki #38008 has been grinding out some impressive wins through several PDGA National Tour events this spring to close the gap in World Ranking points. Will Schusterick #29064 remains in 3rd just barely above David Feldberg #12626 who has been less active on the top tier this spring while rehabbing.

Catrina Allen #44184 has moved into the top spot with a string of NT wins this spring as she and Paige Pierce #29190 continue to take turns with the number 1 and 2 World Rankings. Sarah Hokom #34563 and Valarie Jenkins #17495 retain their positions in 3rd and 4th respectively.

We have yet to play a PDGA Major this year with no Australian Open, European Open nor Scandinavian Open as PDGA Majors on the schedule like last year. The European Masters is the next Major in July as part of the Disc Golf World Tour but there's no Women's division for them to earn World Ranking points. Women only have Worlds and the USWDGC as Majors in 2016. So the PDGA has decided to include women's and men's Final Points Rank in the Disc Golf Pro Tour as a Major event in the World Rankings in 2016. In addition, a man's final points rank in the Disc Golf World Tour will count as a Major in 2016 for World Ranking points.

With Pro Worlds coming up next month, here are some women in the top 10 who have improved their ranking this spring and might be seen as trendy picks to contend at Worlds. Mayu Iwasaki #8209 (Japan) 6th rated woman entrant, Ragna Bygde Lewis #8559 (Sweden) 7th ranked in the World, Hannah Leatherman #45396 (U.S.) reigning U.S. Women's Champion, and Michelle Frazer #24356 (U.S.) 2012 Advanced Women's World Champ.

Among the men, look who's going for the gold again. Barry Schultz #6840 is teeing it up with the young guns in Open this year. He's moved up to 6th ranked in the World and is also 6th in rating among Worlds entrants. Eagle Wynne McMahon #37817 has the third best performance on the NT circuit in the past year and moved up from 27th to 13th in World Rankings in the past 6 months. Bradley Williams #31644 just re-entered the World Rankings at 36th but has been hot in the past few weeks. Plus his Texas background should serve him well for handling the more open courses in Emporia.

So will the stories at Worlds be the dynamic duos, McBeth vs Wysocki, along with Allen vs Pierce? Or will some previous champs like Schultz, Doss, Jenkins or Hokom find their way to the top cards? What newcomers might make a splash? We find our way to our next Champions a month from now in Emporia, Kansas.
