Feldberg shoots one of the highest rated rounds ever!

The feeling in the air is very special at this 2012 Memorial Championship Presented by Discraft which started today at Vista Del Camino in Scottsdale, Arizona. This beautiful venue was met with some near perfect weather, making this a day to score low.  The first round premier group in the Men’s Open division teed off just after 2:30 pm, which consisted of Paul McBeth, Nate Doss, David Feldberg, and Richard Wysocki.  They worked their way around the course toting a small gallery of locals watching the action.  The lowest round of this group was a record breaking 44 (-16) rated at 1115, which was shot by David Feldberg besting the defending champion Paul McBeth’s amazing round of 45.  Local favorite Paul Ulibarri turned in a respectable 49, which former national champion Will Schusterick also scored.  Sylvain Gouge from Dijon, France rounds out the top 5 from the first round with a good round of 50.

In the Open Women’s division Valerie Jenkins is finding herself in a familiar position atop the leader board after shooting a 998-rated 58.  She is still within striking distance of touring professional Sarah Hokom and local favorite Catrina Allen.  Camillia Jernberg sits in fourth place representing a strong European contingent at this year’s Memorial, shooting a 63 and sits five throws back from the lead.

Leading the Pro Master’s division by four throws is the current world champion Jon Baldwin, and he is no stranger to the top of the leader board after winning the PDGA World Championships last year in Santa Cruz, CA.  Harold Hampton and Will Gill are 4 and 5 throws off the lead, respectively.

The Grandmasters division is filled with legendary players and contributors to our sport.   Jim Schultz is not unfamiliar with Vista Del Camino, shooting a hot 52 last year in the third round, and he brings his first return tournament round on the course to a division-leading 53.  Tournament director and local legend Dan Ginnelly is in second place tied with Jim Oates at 54.

Fans of the sport will be able to watch all the drama unfold live from the beautiful Fountain Hills course in Arizona by pointing their browser over to www.DiscGolfPlanet.tv.  The broadcast will continue on Thursday and thoughout the week until the final round on Saturday. Live scoring as well as articles of each day’s action can also be found at www.PDGA.com.
