Memorial Day Two

Friday, March 4, 2011 - 10:44

Round two of the 2011 Memorial Championship Presented by Discraft was played yesterday at Fountain Park, in Fountain Hills Arizona.  This beautiful venue was met with some near perfect weather , making this a day to score low.  The lead card in the Men’s Open Division teed off just after 2:10 pm, which consisted of Paul McBeth, Josh Anthon, Jesse Au, and Pat Blazek.  They labored around the course toting a small gallery of locals watching the action.  The lowest round of this group was a mere 49, which was shot by Paul McBeth keeping him in the race one stroke off the lead.  Ken Climo took advantage of this, shooting a 22 on both the front and back nine for the days hot round of 44, propelling him into the lead.  Geoff Bennett, Nate Doss, and Devan Owens all turned in a score of 46 which has helped them climb the ladder up the leaderboard going into round three today.

In the Open Women’s Division Valerie Jenkins is finding herself in a familiar position atop the leaderboard after a consistent score of 56.  The hot round of the day in this division was from Charlotte, North Carolina’s Sarah Hokom, helping her jump up the leaderboard into second place.

Leading the Pro Master’s divison by one stroke is Patrick Brown, Patrick is no stranger to the top of the leaderboard.  Last year was a great year for him and he almost pulled out a win at the 2010 Tim Selinske US Masters.  George Smith from Columbia, MO and Dan Olesky from Scottsdale, AZ are both one stroke behind Patrick going into moving day.

The Grandmasters division is filled with legendary players and contributors to our sport.   Jim “No Spin” Myers has opened up a 8 stroke lead on local player Harvey Brandt.  Rob Billig, Dr. Rick Voakes, and James Schultz are battling it out tied for third.
