PDGA Media coverage, live from the Plantation Inn in Crystal River, FL

The final PDGA Major event of 2008 tees off this morning at the spectacular Plantation Golf Resort and Spa in Crystal River, Florida.

Now in its fourth year, the Players Cup has earned the accolades of players and a solid reputation as one of disc golf's top events thanks to the hard work of tournament director Mike Barnett, the dedicated volunteers from the Fabulous Florida Tour, and loyal support from presenting sponsor, Discraft.

The Red Hawk Course is a permanent disc golf course that sits alongside and amidst the nine-hole Lagoons ball golf course at Florida's luxurious Plantation Inn. The par 9,010 foot, par 62 championship level layout features an abundance of water, palm trees, and even some punishing rough for those who should venture off of the beautifully manicured ball golf fairways. Red Hawk also has a reputation for being very windy due to its close proximity to the gulf coast. An added challenge that competitors do not usually encounter on most disc golf courses are the alligators and other wildlife that inhabit many of the ponds, so competitors will have to think twice about going after an errant shot here. Aside from all of the great amenities offered by the tournament and the resort, players can also enjoy a good time away from the course with scuba diving and boat rides in crystal clear spring fed rivers. Manatees, alligators, and other local wildlife co-exist with the recreational facilities here on Florida's nature coast and are sure to make for an unforgettable experience.

The Players Cup is also the final event in the 2008 PDGA National Tour Points Series, presented by Woodchuck Cider, so many of the world's top players are in attendance looking to improve their position in the standings for the series ending cash bonuses that will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
